    Thank you. I rebuild posi in 1970 corvette which was 10bolt but the same. Used same technique. I raced the car and I shimmed it as tight as I could get it.

    Great video, helping me now with my 8.875 posi clutch replacement on my 68 C-10.

    Excellent video, I’ve done a few myself over the years. Your technique using a clamp and bolts is priceless on the springs and plates. Thanks for Sharing your knowledge.

    AWESOME VID. I was stuck on rebuilding mine. I've rebuilt many gm 8.5's and Ford 8.8's but new to the 12 bolt which is slightly different. Many thanks for the detailed video.

    Thanks for the tip on the axel in vise to help rotate spider gears into place. Also the plates on bolts to install spring plate. I just installed new clutch packs in my 12 bolt. So that's the stage I'm at is installing 400 lb spring pack.

    what is the 400lb spring pack part #?

    I was curious, did your 400 pound preload springs chatter much when you make turns? Just wondering if you were satisfied with the 400 lb springs or if you wished you’d kept the 200 lb springs in the unit.

    Curious about if open diff carrier would work or if the assembly’s different, I am going to put a mini spool in my 12 bolt truck that broke a ratchet tooth style locker

      As far as I know the carriers are different internally. Either carrier will fit in the same housing

      @@ordinaryguygarage3667 I liked this post about the clutch disc and different springs just like my motorcycles l will eventually install 1 . I have been pondering every since I seen this post, thanks 👍

    So do you pre-soak all of the clutch parts in LSD gear oil before you assemble them? Also it looked like quite a bit of resistance when you were spinning it with the 2nd set of shims, is there a more concrete method for somebody who doesnt know what it is supposed to feel like? I have a 12 bolt posi on my 69 Camaro SS 396 and I suspect somebody put non-LSD gear oil in it and burned up the clutches because there was a good bit of silver dust in the bottom of the diff when I drained it and the ring gear looks fine. The springs on the pressure plate twist from side to side when I turn the axle so it is way out of whack. The rear end has felt clunky for a little while so I am sure this is the issue.

      I like to soak the clutches… you gotta have a good amount of preload on the clutches or they won’t wanna “ engage”.. do you know which springs you have?

      @@ordinaryguygarage3667 They are definitely original so they should be the 200 lb springs. I pulled the whole thing apart and honestly everything looks great, the clutches barely have any wear so I am going to re-use them. One of the carrier bearings was in pretty bad shape and the other is ok but not awesome so just going to replace all the carrier and pinion bearings and one of my pinion gear thrust washers was cracked as well so I ordered those. Everything else is going back in as is, but I might throw in a 400 lb spring pack.

    Hi, when removing c clips to replace leaking axle seals the spider gear thrust washers fell out. Is there any way to get these back in without too much work It is the original 12 bolt 3:73 posi, and everything is still in place...the car is on jack stands, 69 Camaro.

    • @ordinaryguygarage3667
      @ordinaryguygarage3667  2 года назад

      The thrust washers should have a small lip in them that will keep them positioned on the spider gears. You have to put the gears and washers in at the same time

      @@ordinaryguygarage3667 Hi, thx. No lip on these ones. Anyway I was just wondering if these can be put back in without removing the spring pack...or removing the carrier from the housing, which is still in the car and taking off ring gear. Thanks for the reply

    • @ordinaryguygarage3667
      @ordinaryguygarage3667  2 года назад

      You might go ahead and pull the spring pack out.. it’s really not a big deal, just pry it out slightly and stick a couple bolts through the holes, pull it out a bit more then put a couple small clams on it.

      @@ordinaryguygarage3667 Yes ok...but can you do this with it all still assembled in the car...ring gear won't interfere? Sorry, thanks for your help. I won't bother you anymore.

    i want to know if I can change my 4.11 to a 3.73 w/o changing the whole diff and unit.Can I just change the ring gear and pinion?

  • @randallscott8150
    @randallscott8150 3 года назад

    I asked another friend about changing out my gears, he said take it to a pro garage because there were ...clearances.... I didnt know about! Can you speculate on what clearances he meant?

    • @ordinaryguygarage3667

      There is pinion bearing and carrier bearing preload, pinion depth and back lash.. that’s all there is to it. If you are mechanically inclined and don’t rush through the process it should go really easily
