    NOTE! If rebuilding a used unit, make sure that the side gears and pinion gears go back in the same locations they came from. I usually mark with a small grinder, one of the teeth on the left hand side gear and the pinion gear on the side with the cross shaft bolt. And if you always do it this way then you will always be placing your gears in the same spot even if it sits in the garage for two years before you put it back together. Thanks

    of course , used to do them all the time , the o.d. of the standard 12 bolt shims need to be trimmed down a bit to be able to use them..

    Super video tom!
    I have one question, do you have to spin the unit if you use carbon fiber Clutch to?

    Hi, when removing c clips to replace leaking axle seals the spider gear thrust washers fell out. Is there any way to get these back in without too much work It is the original 12 bolt 3:73 posi, and everything is still in place...the car is on jack stands, 69 Camaro.

    I think that this the style I have in my tundra and it stinks. Its pretty much just open now... don’t know that I want to rebuild it just to have it wear out again. My go with the tru track gear drive option.

    what is the deal with the factory 4 series carrier like the eaton one posted, 5 of the discs with the ears and 4 regular with the teeth that slide on gear, put the god damn thing together and it wont turn no matter how thin the shimming is, went from .009 up to .044 same shit, falls apart trying to get little spider gears in

  • @TomsDifferentials

    fairly simple thing to do if you have patience..tom..

    Hey, I want to put a posi in my truck. Would this be a fairly simple thing to do? I am mechanically inclined.

    What happened to the preload springs? Does your technique eliminate them?

    Tom I'm tired of trying to find a skilled person to work with so I'm just going to throw this out there and ask do you have the time to rebuild my differential? It's a 78 positrac with 355 gears. Please advise Thanks

      Tom's Differentials so sorry to hear that. What a great guy. I bought many parts from him over the years for my axle rebuild business. Gonna miss him.

    hi tom I can't get my axles out they got mushroomed any tricks to grind them out?

    • @TomsDifferentials
      @TomsDifferentials  8 лет назад

      your going to have to tap them out , the raised part is not that thick so shouldn't be that bad , butt you will need to replace the axles , so you have the correct end play

    • @casanovaevren
      @casanovaevren 8 лет назад

      +toms diffs got u .i did not want to damage the inner bore though when tapping. end play was .140 and .135 and its crunchy with little fluid found in the case .crunchy but gears are good 79 vette I hope GM additive ll take care of the sound. joints look good bearings replaced.ll clean metals and put new axles thanks
