The manufacturer of my third member recommended polishing the pinion shaft so the front bearing is a slip fit. Years later when I disassembled the unit the shim packs had worn through. I'll leave that as a press fit from now on. 3:40 - 4:05
Great video, really well explained and I appreciate the attention to detail. If I have a correctly set up 3rd, and I only want to change the Detroit locker out what setting will change and need to be confirmed? Is it only backlash? I will keep the same R&P. Thanks for any advice.
I was checking out your site and looking at getting a complete 3rd member. My posi wore out and pinion bearing all jacked up, so if I get a complete assembly is it pretty much bolt in... Put axles in and ready? I know I need to check axle spline but is it that simple? Thanks a lot, I like your videos for your products
Ok, I want to go with 31 spline and get new axles. Yoke was 3 5/8" with a 4.5 length. I measured axles from outer shaft to splines and got 32.5" and 30.0" not sure but is longest axle size 32? So I measured wrong? But anyway in all I'm looking to get complete 3rd member with 4:11 limited slip, 31spline axles with bearings, and new u joint

smart man , never polish the stem.. have a great 4 th of july dude
measure backlash before you disassemble and match on reassembly.. I would advise to replace side bearings and races..and preload side bearings
you need to check axle spline AND the yoke size u-joint dimensions as well as the length of the yoke.. then its a piece of cake..
