I remember videos like this being in our shop class in high school. We never got to watch them during class so I would go in after school and watch them. I only wish there were more.

I forgot, the presure that you apply to the bolts in the gear ring & carrier is in foot pound: lb or inches pound?

I used your video to rebuild my 9" rear, it was excellent. I made sure that I lined up the slots of the side gear and clutch hub when rebuilding the clutch assemble. I installed the differential into housing and installed the passenger side axle but when it came to installing the driver side axle it would not go in all the way, it's missing by 3/8 of a inch. First thing I thought was the splines must of misaligned. I do not want to pull the differential back out, any ideals how from the outside I can get the splines of the side gear to line up with the clutch hub. Thank You

Looks like he was using the gear oil that was drained out of the axle when the 3rd member was pulled. Pretty brown looking.

love the videos! I have a question with the clutches. I installed new ones, and after putting everything back together I put the wheels back one and tried to roll it, but it only goes forward and backwards. I can't turn the wheel independently. I haven't put any fluid and friction modifier in yet, just the oil we soaked them in first, but would that cause that to happen? Anything info would help a bunch!
    thanks!

YES, NICELY DONE BUT DO YOU HAVE ANY VIDEOS ABOUT CHANGING THE SIDE GEARS ? FORD 9 INCH HAS 3 OPTIONS, 28, 31, AND 35 SPLINE.

Hello, I feel lucky finding your videos, but I have some doubts: In my rear axel I found a stainless steel plate with these code C WDD E 3.25 C22S; I bought from Summit a pinion & gear ring 4.11 ratio, Eaton-Detroit Locker & the kit for differential service with 3.25 in carrier bearings, the point: 1- Can you explain to me what does the code in the plate means? & 2- Did I buy the correct kit to install the new pinion, gear & locker?
I could notice that the original relationship: ratio is also 3.25 but the pinion is quite huge compare with the new & the "carrier": the center looks very similar than what you show here & the Eaton I bought. I will appreciate your response.

His hands look like they are 80 years old. I guess that is what happens when you don't use gloves when always handling gear lube and such.
