Great information as always for sure... My question may be a bit ignorant but my understanding of all this is FAR below yours so, can you make a non-positive differential into a positive by just changinging the insides rather than changing the whole thing?
Yes you can change a differential from an open to a traction control by changing the carrier and in the cases of a "lunch box locker", all you have to do is change the spider and side gears. Changing the carrier does not require you to change pinion shims or reset the depth, just make sure the backlash is set to the same as when it came out. Again, the lunch box locker style, you don't even have to check the backlash if all the shims go back to the same position, the original backlash is retained.
