  • Many Iranians had to leave their country after the Islamic Revolution. One of them returns back to document the lives of women in different parts of Iran. This documentary portrays women coming from very varied backgrounds: in the countryside such as weavers, matchmakers, or in the city such as painters, saleswomen....

What amazes me is the men are all modern and the women are relugated to live 2000 years ago. It makes me ill to see how these women are treated.

+dolphin61wolf i am from europe myself, a woman also, not a muslim, but that isn`t the main reason im commenting to you, i`m commenting to u simply to ask, that do u have a wellfare incomesystem to all the people, who are unemployed, here in my country (Finland) we have, so people have it kind of easy to live here, because even, tough you don`t go to work, you are able to get incomes from somewhere to pay your living, but the benefits and incomes u are able to get, aren`t very huge, so u don`t live such a rich person`s life on the benefits of the society, but at least you don`t have live on the street and starve, because u have a home to live and money to buy food to feed yourself like when you`re on the welfare example.........i am 1 person, who lives on such small incomes, by which i have to pay my living (rent, food etc.) + my dog`s living, i mean food etc. and sometimes i have had ask my closest relatives to borrow me some money, because i haven`t had money to buy food anymore, but still i am happy and i believe, that yeah, this world is harsh, but you gotta fight and never give up..........even, if u don`t have money to feed yourself and getting a job isn`t easy, then if u don`t have any other options, then - steal the food from the stores, i know this isn`t such a good and smart idea and im definitely not encouraging anyone to do this, if they have other choices, but i mean - in the situation, where you`re a homeless person in the United States example, and VERY poor, u haven`t found a job, tough u have been seeking 1 to pay your living and have incomes to pay the apartment to live and u don`t get any incomes from anywhere to buy the food, what else you might think of, but steal the food from somewhere, except if u could get help from somewhere like homeless shelter example........?At least i can admit, that if i was a poor person having no money at all to buy the food, i would fucking steal, if i didn`t have ANY other options, cause it`s DEFINITELY not funny to starve every single day having completely NOTHING to eat, is it........? so i`d just like to know, that do they have a wellfaresystem for those, who are unemployed in the United States, that`s the only question i would like to you, if u don`t mind.......: - )

+Mincah1 I didn't read your whole post but yes, there is a welfare system. Not as strong as US but not much weaker idea. I just checked and US pays around $375 a month + food stamps. Thousands have been cut recently due to budget issues. So nearly 47, 000, 000 Americans are currently receiving food stamps as only source of income. But average rent is from $300 -$1000 so don't have a clue how people live. In Iran most people either live with family or friends or something. Family members also help. I hope this helps

Women are literally executed by the government for being raped there. You can be executed for smoking pot, being gay, having sex before marriage, converting to a different religion, and drinking. Minor infractions of the law are punished with public lashings, prolonged torture, and life imprisonment.
The U.S. is fucked up in its own ways, but if you think that being underemployed is anything compared to the things I’ve mentioned, you’re delusional.

Subtitles were such a pain and so hard to read, they also went too fast and I am a really quick reader. It's always amazing to me how much women can endure and still be strong and kind people bonded to each other through their hardships, always helping each other along. I think all middle eastern countries have the potential to thrive,,, but war is a terrible phenomenon that is extremely detrimental to all the countries and people involved. It often ruins a Nation and make it difficult for the country to develop for years and years to come. I think women's rights in developing countries should be an extremely important focus for all NGO's/human right's groups/governements/activists etc. A country where it's women cannot choose to be educated and are often forced into marriage before they turn 18, is a country that will never thrive. People need to begin to understand the crucial role women play in developing a country, society cannot thrive in a country where it's women are oppressed. Women are and will always be an integral part of a successful and prosperous society.

Has anyone noticed that every documentary about Iran women is from villages of Iran. Why they don't show women of Tehran and Masha had and other cities? In rural areas even in UK and US woken have different life from city women. Believe it or not about 80% of women from Tehran and Masham and other big cities of Iran have done plastic surgery of thier body to look model like. I had a friend from Iran living in UK and she visited Iran after many years and when she came back said to me that She felt very low confident in Iran among all of the relative girls who looked like fashion models.

W.J. D I recently watched a video where a five-old female child was given as a “gift” to a 60+ year old man. Most parents would die for their children! I can’t find any words to describe something like this! Governments need to start taking responsibility in looking after its citizens. When families have to sell their young daughters for money and in order to survive is inhumane. Even mothers in the animal kingdom have a better instinct to keep their young alive at all cost than some humans. Just my opinion.

WHY do these people live like it is 4 BC ??? Is this a choice? The terrorist are making their lives hell.I cannot imagine living like this.Convert to Christianity, for an all loving God, leave. Those carpets are beautiful, they could make a fortune here.Really to make something so beautiful in an awful place, I have to wonder why I am depressed.

In 49:00, the lady says the way the iranians deal with their regimen is exclusively their problem, and sadly it's not. After all, it's the Iranian government that, on one hand, prevent most of the population to express themselves freely, and in the other stops them from further contact with other countries, ever fearful of "degeneration".
So, in the end, it is not their exclusive problem, but a global hindrance to mutual understanding. We, who want to understand and connect and exchange experiences, are as much damaged as they, unable to reach us in Western societies, are.
