Betty wrote a second book about helping other absent parents, whose child/children had been kidnapped , get their child/children back. One of the victims was a man, whose children were taken to Germany. The first muslim country to sign the UN declaration on children's rights was Algeria.
I saw this movie when I was a little girl and it stuck with me forever tbh now I have a daughter of my own and it’s even more fucking amazing that she made it

I think one of the worst parts is that before they even went to Iran, Betty had secretly investigated her options. She was told that if she and Mahtob didn't go to Iran willingly, Moody might kidnap Mahtob, take her to Iran, and then divorce Betty. And if that happened, Betty would never see Mahtob again. She made the choice to go so that if the worst happened (and it did) at least she would be there with her daughter.
A mother will fight to the death for her children! While not as hostile as an Islamic, I married a guy who ended up being in a very cult like religion and it left me homeless. Be careful who you marry! You may think you know them but you don’t.
My sister , mother and myself went to visit family in Italy , my sister 23 , fell in love with an Italian while we visited Italy , she married him and she moved to Italy. He was a smooth romantic Italian , then when things in their marriage started to sour , he beat my sister .many people said that could happen with any nationality .The problem is that , when she called the Italian police , the police took his side because she was the American . The point is like you mentioned , be careful who you marry .

She met with the kindly shop owner multiple times before actually officializing her escape plans. And also, some of the people that said they were there to help her later, along the way, i think they were called 'guides' or somethng, one robbed her and another actually tried to rape her during the night on part of their foot journey. There was an Indian nurse named Sushmita Banerjee, she married an Afghanistani Muslim man, and he took her to Afghanistan, after reaching there she found out that he was already married, he used to have business trips to India, but never took her to her homeland, she somehow managed to escape that hell and reached INDIA, after few years her husband again tricked her to go to Afghanistan, and she died under mysterious circumstances there. Just watched the movie never heard about this story before I was sooooo pissed when he hit the litter girl his own daughter I was pissed when he hit his wife but I was fuming out the mouth when he hit that little girl.
Betty gave her daughter the biggest gift - her love, her freedom, and to live a own life as a woman without beeing forced in a ugly forced child marriage, honour killing, without any own rights to do and to choose her own style of working, living, clothing - what danger it is for a woman to choose her own way in iran in 2022 shows the example of a young woman - who was murdered a few days ago because she did not wear her tschador "correktly" , she dared to leave a few hairs open under her cover.....beaten to death from iranian police.....can anyone tell me that this is "normal" in any way? Betty took a big risk and I believe without any help she would not have made it back to USA at all
I'm about half way through the book and IDK what she was thinking either. She has a huge part in all of this, marrying this joker in the first place and then going against her own gut feeling and allowing it to happen. Granted, she paid a huge price in getting herself out after months of living like a prisoner. mey roc my friends mom is a white American and his dad is Jordanian, and she loves her life right now..
So true
Betty wrote a second book about helping other absent parents, whose child/children had been kidnapped , get their child/children back. One of the victims was a man, whose children were taken to Germany. The first muslim country to sign the UN declaration on children's rights was Algeria.
What you call "human rights" is humor in that culture because nobody really follows......

I saw this movie when I was a little girl and it stuck with me forever tbh now I have a daughter of my own and it’s even more fucking amazing that she made it
I just finished reading her book. Now I discovered there is also a movie. wow.
There are many difference between book and movie. You are living all emotions when reading her book. It was unbelievable. So I’m from Turkey. Turkey never been like that before.
The movie is excellent.
I am sorry for Muslim women living in a fear. that religion is rotten to the core.
Always follow your instinct..no matter what it may seem that you know, think or feel..never disregard the gut feelings..it will save you from harm for sure..
Between a rock and a hard place for sure. Peace be upon them
She was extremely Blessed and had God watching over her that her and her daughter were not harmed in any way shape or form trying to escape
A mother will fight to the death for her children! While not as hostile as an Islamic, I married a guy who ended up being in a very cult like religion and it left me homeless. Be careful who you marry! You may think you know them but you don’t.
Verdade.
@@josephforest7605true it can happen with any nationality but the most cases reported have been with women marrying Muslim men without knowing exactly the culture and thereby getting in trouble.
As an Iraqian I love American for helping us with war. We iraqian don’t hate Iranian but we never understood why the Iranian wanted war with us. Because of that thanks to American they helped us ❤❤❤❤
Ahhhh 💔💔 Arab women have to deal with this kind of men all the time .
noobien plays it’s not a completely different region it’s the same region ( Middle East ) but it’s culturally very different
I am so sorry for them!
They birth and raise them they should raise and birth better men
If I was from Iran, I think the only reason I would have to stay there is to help people in similar situations as Betty’s
I would have been paranoid, thinking that the people helping were telling the husband.
in the book it says just what you thought...she was terrified , at first, that the people trying to help her would rat her out but slowly she trusted more and more. She met with the kindly shop owner multiple times before actually officializing her escape plans. And also, some of the people that said they were there to help her later, along the way, i think they were called 'guides' or somethng, one robbed her and another actually tried to rape her during the night on part of their foot journey. Wow, so intense!
I felt sorry for the people of Iran too. They only know how to hate. I’m so glad they escaped from that awful place.
Iran is great lmao
Iranian people feel sorry for a hoard of Bible basher. They don't need your sympathy.
Salty
And I’m sorry for you that you judged the entire Iranian people by just one family!
@@monamiri2187 Not by just one family. We do read and research. I know that there are people there, who do not surround to the terrible religoius regim, and victims themselves as well, but the current situation shows that unfortunately no positive development can be seen.
For those that believed that the men in the movie, in the mountains, that helped Betty out of kindness, think again. Those were human smugglers. Many people used them to escape Iran from 1979 onwards, and not all of them got out alive. They were paid. I know this story as I knew Betty's friend and learned of Betty's escape and her book that she was just about to release in 1990. Her friend became a TV journalist in Tehran.
This movie changed the way I saw history. My summer history credits teacher showed this to us in the summer of 06’ right in the middle of the Iraq war. He said it was for a reason since we’re studying contemporary history and boy was he right. Thank you Mr. McDermott not only did you teach me about many different wars but also economics my senior year.
This movie is so amazing though, everyone should watch it at least once especially since it is free, plus it has Sally Field.
I'm happy😊 for them .They made it back to the United States in one piece.
Me too. 😊🇺🇸👩👧
There are so many Betty's who got stuck.
i cant imagine the relieve this woman was feeling when she finnaly knew that she andh er daughter were safe, i lived in a muslim country also for a time, as a guy tho, yet it still did serious damage to me, emotionally, and physical
Burning our flag? What t he hell do they get out of that??? It's childish and stupid.
Because to them America is the great Satan we are the infidel to them. People really don't understand the islamic countries hatred for the west and America
I’ve seen the movie about this story a few times and it impacted me every time.

If I had been the ticketing agent there’s no way I’d have sold any American citizen a flight to Iran at that time.
Boa noite.Eu também não venderia, sem antes perguntar a ela se sabia tudo que poderia lhe acontecer no Irã.Deixaria ela ciente dos riscos.🤚🇧🇷
Right
You didn’t go straight to Iran from the U.S. You had (and still have) to go through somewhere in Europe or Turkey. Plus, he wasn’t an American citizen. Because he was Iranian, she was Iranian by default as his wife and so was his daughter according to Iran’s laws.
such an evil , family of evil .
thank God for protecting betty and her daughter 😢
Im glad you both got out. Thank God
I saw the movie and omg it was amazing and shocking how women in that time lived in that kind of situation.
just finished reading the book..too scary to be a true story
Sana, there are lots of women trapped in horrible situations. It's a true story.
You really think that things like this don’t happen? You are very naive
Because it's all lies.
Levi's Mommy Not everyone in islam are horrible people. Also kind muslims helped Betty and her daughter to escape from iran.
Its true, and her daughter has written her own book. Very interesting
She also wrote a book about her escape "Kabuliwale Ki Bangali Biwi".
Hahaha that’s not a good story armpit to armpit same smell
The book is so captivating ❤
Apparently for his portrayal of Mahmoody in not without my daughter Alfred molina was assaulted after being mistaken for Mahmoody. For those who don’t know who Alfred molina is he played doctor octopus in Spider-Man 2
I read that in Wikipedia. That's a fascinating story, but disgusting due to the other person's behaviour.
People meaning well but act idiotically are the most dangerous.
we watched the movie in history and seeing this i’m so shocked on how accurate it was
Why would you watch this kind of movie in history?!
Why not watch it in history?
When the truth is told, there’s no reason to be lying about it.
This is the real true story about the movie "Not Without My Daughter "
Was she able to make it back in time to say goodbye to her daddy? I hope so cause I can only imagine how her parents must’ve felt their daughter and granddaughter trapped there.
It's been a while since I've read the book but as far as I remember she made it back just before he died.
I was surprised that Betty actually called Moody just after she left.
She had to give him some hope that they'd meet up. If she didn't the cops would have been out everywhere looking for them
It was part of the escape,
was a way to take some more time to get closer to the border..
She had to. It was part of the escape plan.
Her Escape plan with her daughter from Iran. They made it U.S. Embassy in Turkey. Back to America. I’m so proud of Betty and Mahtob. 🥲 Betty has divorced evil ex Iranian husband in 1989. 🇺🇸
I'm happy she was able to leave Iran and made it safely this story touched my heart and I'm happy they caught that man who murdered his teen daughters he was from Egypt he had been on the run for 12 years this why I pay attention to laws and warnings of other countries glad people helped her escape
The fact that men actually help these women makes me know; we are good it's just not all good is instantly visible, and some people can never be saved from being awful.
I find it hard to believe she was that naive about going to Iran during such a tumultuous time.
Any culture that treats women differently than men is suspect.
Genesis 3:15 -
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

This is so sad.

Before the Islamic Revolution, Iran was a beautiful country to live in
I find it amazing that they even have film-making there.

Oh mannn… I am gradually falling in love with an Iranian man… but I changed my mind after watching not without my daughter. Terrifying
You made the right decision. Forget him.
Unbelievable how modern and cool Iran was before 1979. They blew it big time.
Back to the stone ages, just like Afghanistan's doing this week.
It was 1984 that Moody took them there. 1986 was when they escaped his wrath and that shit country. And 2009 was when Moody died and went to hell.

My girlfriend was dating a Turkish guy in the 90’s. After reading Not without my daughter she got so scared, broke up with him and reconnected with her ex boyfriend…

turkey is different tho, even tho the majority of the population is muslim turkey has a secular constitution
These guys with muslim background are not to be trusted, no matter where did they come from.

Although turkey was the country where she was safe and went home from there 😂 the film was endet when she arrived in turkey so... what could that mean? 👀
I watched the movie many times! So sad. I'm happy they found a way back.

Would be awesome if Betty stayed in touch with Amal all these years.
I wouldn't have left my daughter to grow up there either. kids depend on their parents for safety
There is a rebuttal from Moody on YT, made some years before he passed. Of course he denied everything and he wanted to see Matob. She refused to meet with him and I don’t blame her!
Of course Moody would deny everything. He felt like he did nothing wrong. He never came to his senses.
So glad they got away bless the brave mama
she's a VERY WONDERFUL lady. she gave birth to that girl and come hell or high water, mom was taking her daughter with her back to the United States of America. Where woman are treated as humans NOT objects or people to be controlled. YAY and 1 Trillion Zillion Million Billion thumbs up to Betty Mahmoody. My guess as to why she didn't go back to her Maiden name, is because she felt it was safer NOT to.
Her maiden name was Lover.

What’s the full documentary called I wanna watch the full thing
She also has two other children in America I don’t think the movie mentions.
I'm so glad you and your daughter got away from him that monster
I can't believe she went in the first place.
she did not have a choice. He could have kidnapped her daughter and take her to Iran without her. She did get legal counsel before going and found that she could not do anything to protect her daughter from the father
Bless you man ,gid bless you that you helped this woman
Betty took a big risk and I believe without any help she would not have made it back to USA at all
I honestly don't know what this woman was thinking going with him in the first place.
I'm about half way through the book and IDK what she was thinking either. She has a huge part in all of this, marrying this joker in the first place and then going against her own gut feeling and allowing it to happen. Granted, she paid a huge price in getting herself out after months of living like a prisoner. I wouldn't set foot in Iran for anything, let alone during a time like the early 80s with all that crap going on.
In the movie she says "Moody was so kind in America" Yeah you were protected by secular modernized law. Those didn't restrain him in Iran.
