    God Bless you, Mahtob. When I first seen the movie years ago for the first time, I truly believed that it was by only God's grace that your father was called to the hospital the night that you and your mother fled. Your mom was up against time because your father was forcing your mom to go back immediately to the U.S. without you, God had his eyes on you and your mother the entire time.

      If there is a God then why did he put them through all of that torture for two years? All y’all Christians are the same. Something terrible happens to you and then you say it’s by God‘s grace that you made it out OK. There’s lots of people who don’t make it out OK what about them? God doesn’t love them, he only loves you? And if he loved you why would he put you through all that? Most people are only religious because that’s what they were taught by their parents. And that’s what they were taught by their parents and their parents and so on. there are so many religions what makes you think yours is the right one??? If you were born into a Buddhist family, you would be Buddhist right now and swear you were correct.

      Seriosuly she looks like a total idiot. Middle-class, mommy's daughter, idiotic. She made her father suffer tortures to this day and still calls herself a Christian? Just notice her conceptual mental framework : she only reasons in "God" and "religious" concepts, that's absolutely childish (to my opinion). She's not grown-up. She's got a terribly senstive father who loves her insanely and she still can't understand that all this vicious stoty has to do with business and politics, possibly also her father's vicious family, but not the poor guy caught in the middle of these historical events, a fanatic familly and a vicious wife. Goddam her and her daughter. Talk to your father. Tak to him. Go see him. Try and pick up his version before he dies. And you may not die a total square as you look like right now./

    • @kiddor909gmail
      @kiddor909gmail 6 лет назад +29

      You have to understand Anita. Forgiving someone does not justify what they did. It's simply set you free so that they do not have power over you. Also God tries to teach us and gives us the ability when we pray to love everyone no matter who they are or what they've done to us are others. My own experience with forgiveness was that I grew spiritually and realized how much God loved all of his children. He does not like their behavior and believe me there will be consequences. Just as there are consequences in this world there are also spiritual consequences. God's world and heaven is in the order. The spiritual world is in perfect order and there are laws and rules and consequences just like on Earth only more perfect because they are governed by God. I did not have the ability to forgive my abusive step-father but I was willing to because I knew I had to before I came to the altar of God. As we see in the story of the woman caught in adultery Jesus turns to everyone and says he who is without sin Let Him cast the first stone. Major Point here we may not have done things as bad as some people but sin is still sin and no one can say that they have not sinned. Remember by having the ability to forgive we leave the Judgment up to God. Not that we don't speak out or take action when we see something that is wrong. We should always stand up for what is right even putting our life on the line for someone who is being abused When we pray God lets us know what is right and what is wrong. But God is very clear that we have to be very careful about how we judge others. And I quote as you judge you also will be judged in accordance to how you judge others. Again I did not have the ability to do this. But I was given the ability by God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. I hope that helps. Please pray about this. If We Hold On to any anger towards any human being this only hurts us and keeps us from understanding the wisdom of God and letting the light of the Holy Spirit move within us. If you know the Lord's Prayer. There is one part that says Thy Kingdom Come thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. What I know now is that we have to strive to be ready for heaven so that means we have to align our will up with God's we can only do this by asking for help from Jesus. In my experience. The most important Point here is when you die you take with you everything that you have inside of your soul. (We strive to do Gods will on earth as it is in heaven.) If we open ourselves up 2 the will of God we are changed by him and we get the gift of being able to love everyone. So when we die if we Have No Malice against any man or woman that is the way it must be.. we cannot get into heaven if we have anger and Malice towards others. Think about it there is no anger or malice or Darkness or wishing someone would perish, in heaven. There Is Only Love. We must strive to become good citizens of Heaven end again with the help of God we can do that. I hope you are able to let go of the slings and arrows that people have put towards you. I know from my own experience that Jesus knows about every single bad thing that has been done to me, you or others. he was right there screaming into the person's ear with his angels to try to get the people to stop doing evil. However God does not interfere with our will. Some people get so lost they cannot hear God anymore. I pray that you will let go of all things that hurt you and let the Lord teach you because he knows everything about you. Remember the longer you hold on to hate the more chance it has to change you into someone who is angry even become the very person who has hurt you or others. God bless you and have a wonderful Christmas

Bolivia is a wonderful country with amazing people but they do have a law that you cannot leave the country without the consent of both parents. After Oct. 7th I struggled really hard with a hatred in my heart for months. That kind of thinking isn't me, I didn't like it, and as a Christian, it concerned me so I prayed about it specifically. I told the Lord I didn't want to feel the hatred, and asked him to forgive me for feeling it in the first place. I asked him to soften my heart. As always, He did! @@lorimav Yes, most of what Betty and Mahtob say is not unheard of in Iranian culture post-revolution. I don't doubt either of their claims; moreover, Betty did remain friends with Hamid (Iranian shopkeeper who let her use the telephone), and kept her promise to pay Amahl (the Iranian man who helped her get out of Iran; she sent him 12,000 USD). I can't imagine any possible motive Betty would have to share her story if it wasn't true, because she is neither racially-prejudiced nor financially motivated. She could have easily cut off all the Iranians in her life and basked in the limelight of the inspirational American escapee, but instead she chose to repay her friends and write them letters. She also keeps in-touch with her Iranian family who've moved to Australia/New Zealand, and had no problem with Mahtob keeping her Iranian name and Persian roots. She wanted to break away from her abusive husband, who was dangerous even back in America, and warn other women about the reality of domestic abuse and child custody issues in countries where the laws are different. Most countries today still warn tourists that the child custody laws in Iran favour the rights of the father, and that it's risky to bring a child with Iranian heritage to Iran expecting that they'll be allowed to come back from there. "Moody" was by most accounts not a nice man. He had even reportedly started to avoid his sister, Ameh Bozorg, despite her clearly exhibiting Munchausen-like symptoms and mental health issues, particularly when she started being nice to Betty behind his back. No matter his ethnicity or his family or his country, Moody was an unstable, malicious and financially-troubled man who lived with debt and legal problems most of his life, losing his parents at a young age and eventually just trying to live off of fraud and Betty's/his nephew's money until Betty fled with Mahtob. I do hope that Hamid and Amahl are alright, wherever they are, as they had both wanted to get their own families out of Iran themselves, and it was sadly revealed that Hamid's shop had been shut down by the government for selling English-printed t-shirts not long after Betty's escape.

    She's so right. Without forgiveness you can't have freedom. She didn't elaborate but what I have learned about forgiveness is that you aren't saying that things are OK or you have given them a clean slate or anything. As a Jew or Christian, it means that you leave the business of dealing with the offense/sin between the person and God. You don't forget and you keep yourself safe, but you are no longer weighed down by hate and resentment. Forgiving somebody usually doesn't happen in a snap but is a process that sometimes needs to be repeated especially if the offense was a big one

    I never watch movies and my ex-wife made me watch this movie with her, "Not Without My Daughter". At the time I worked in a music store and sold pianos. About two weeks after seeing that movie I worked with a lady all evening trying to sell her a piano....very nice woman (but a tough sell). It took me 6 months to finally sell her a piano. As she was leaving that evening she gave me her first name and phone number. It was weird, because the name rung a bell. I lived in Flint, Michigan and worked in Lansing, Michigan. When she told me her name I said, "Hmmm...that sounds familiar. Is your husband a doctor in Flint or something - maybe I know him?" She said, "He's not my husband anymore....and you would not wanna know him." After she left a female co-worker came running over and said, "Do you know who that is?" I looked down at my paperwork and said, "Yeah - some lady named Betty Mahmoody". Then she explained....lol. She was a very kind, likable lady - drove a hard bargain!!! Hope her and Mahtob are doing well.

    I've read Not Without My Daughter 14 times, I have read My name is Mahtob 3 times. Both books are excellent. The movie is a joke, it NEVER even covers the escape, don't bother w/ the movie. The Americans in Iran betrayed her, the Iranians and Turks helped her.

      People forget memories are a tricky thing. Some block, some remember every detail. And of course now we have scientific data indicating memory starts during gestation. No one can say she’s lying bc of her age!

      @@t.l.1610 So true! I know people who remembered every single detail of an traumatic event that has happened when they were only 8 and now they are in their late 20s - 30s.

    It is really sad the she and her mom are deceived by her father and she also saw how her father who used to be a kind person now in Iran became evil and even abused her mother. But Im happy that they both can return to America by the help of their Iranian good friends

    I'm from the Philippines,I admired their Determination, to Live,to fight for their honor, reputation, they're such a wonderful Mother- Daughter relationship. I'm their Avid Fan.
    Some educated, muslim are kind and some are really worse because of their strict culture old custom as muslim.
    I can relate what she is saying, her experienced, a friend of ours, had a muslim boyfriend, at first the muslim is sweet, charismatic, educated,BS Physics graduate, A Class Valedictorian Deans Lister to the University,as times goes by the muslim changed became stern, strict, not liked to be asked ,or accept suggestion showed his true colors,the woman ended up the relationship because the muslim had a terrible, terrible temper prone to beat women, bossy,abusive actions

      jessica nieves absolutely! Look at the so called evangelical “Christians.” Or the priests and nuns. It’s unfortunate that the clergy of any religion can attract weak minded people who get off on controlling, dominating, and victimizing others.
