I LOVE the genasi races. An Air Genasi "Storm Sorcerer" writes it's own backstory...they are uncovering their innate djinn heritage...complete with 9th Level "Wish" spell...he shall be Wind Smith! A Fire Genasi Artificer...their own inner elemental fire powers their inventions...I shall name him Tony Spark, complete with flaming goatee! A Water Genasi Inquisitive Rogue, with an eye for treasure, that fancies himself a pirate...he shall be Jack Shallow, or Johnny Deep! Finally, an Earth Genasi Barbarian, with perhaps a dash of bard, who grapples anything and everything. He shall, of course, be named Rock Jonhson.
Fun fact: I am actually planning to do a fire Artificer for the campaign My friends invited me to and I was looking for intel. Man, I am so stoked to think I was not the only one finding this combo absolutely sick!
I like to think of genasi the same as teiflings/ assimar. They are created when a pregnant woman is exposed to planar energies. So a woman traveling through the Hells is very likely to give birth to a teifling. Like wise if she travels through the celestial planes then an assamar. So if a pregnant woman go to, or is near a portal to, an elemental plane then she is much more likely to have a genasi of that element. I see this as kind of a regional thing, or possibly mean that the children of adventurers or people that plane travel are these extra planar breeds. It’s interesting world building.

One of my favorite things to do with Genasi is have the player choose what their other parent’s race is. I interpret Genasi as part-Elemental part-whatever race the parent is. For example, a dwarf Fire Genasi would look mostly like a dwarf, but perhaps his beard is made of fire. He might have redder skin too. And then when he uses his fire Genasi abilities, those features are amplified. You can do this with practically any race. Even work class stuff in. An earth Genasi/human Barbarian of mine looks rather like a normal female human, but when she is struck her skin is revealed to be hiding a layer of hardened stone- effectively, I tied her unarmored defense feature to her race through flavor.
Spectre Dan I recently joined a campaign and created an Earth Genasi named “Topa”. The story of how her parent’s met was actually pretty romantic, and sad when they got separated due to his lamp being stollen. But Topa is pretty much a big ol’ sweetheart, and a Druid. I thought the class druid would suit her, because she grew up in a forest-elven tribe which I based off natives. So she loves Animals and she loves her home. When the Humans came and invaded her home with the help of the dark elf cousins, she wasn’t allowed to stay back and help... she was forced to leave, and behind she left the elderly woman that raised her, to fight alone as the most powerful druid in their tribe. Topa to this day is still unsure of whether or not the old woman survived, but when she returned to see what remained of her home... it was all gone, either burned down or barely standing. And nobody was left. I haven’t started playing yet, but so far this is what I have for her background. Any thoughts?
@@ravenartistofficial Pretty deep background there, and I really like it, but I will also say that the whole 'my village/tribe has been totally destroyed' has been rather overdone. I had a character that was a fire genasi, but a part of his story is that he got cursed rendering him unable to use any magic at all. That includes his natural elemental abilities. I pictured his skin as grey and cracked, his hair as white and wispy and his eyes a dull green with white flecks. His fire had been extinguished and he felt like crap for it. But when he reaches lvl 3 his skin cracks and starts to crumble, smoke pours from everywhere on his body, his eyes change color to a glowing and warm copper color and his hair turns orange-red like flames. Having my first ever DND session this year, had 4 races I tried to narrow my choices down to and rolling a D4, ended up with a level 1 fire genasi Monk that has helped the team hold my hand a little bit as I learn the rhythm of adventuring then give RP material for sudden mood swings when I get more confident with my rolls 😅😅😅
My very first character that I'm playing right now is a water genasi druid and it's been really fun. I want to try an earth genasi paladin at some point too
Fun fact for anyone who cares about pathfinder: in pathfinder, the for different types of ganassi are actually 4 different races: Ifrits for fire, Undines for water, Sylphs for air, And oreads for earth.
I made an earth genasi recently for a one shot. The one shot had a festival before the fight began and my character was a trickster rogue with a level of wizard. My character used dancing lights and mold earth to entertain the children with light and pictures on the ground and also won the archery contest. They won a snugglebeast unicorn (a plushie that helps with healing during short rests) and was gifted a tea weird by another party member who won it during the eating contest. It was honestly pretty fun. I played my character as down to earth but light hearted and enjoys entertaining the local kids with her magic. Maybe it isn’t the typical earth genasi but I took this route because I figured it wasn’t the norm for any earth genasi so she would be a sorta odd one out due to her different skill set for her type elemental type. She is down to earth and practical. So I feel she embodies most of earth genasi. Honestly? I didn’t think too terribly hard. This was a last minute one shot thrown together with a module the dm was super familiar with and I made up the character maybe less than 30 minutes before game time. I didn’t even draw a solid design until after the game ended and we used a token of a rock in the mean time. I mean, I even just used the fantasy name generator for her name. Anyway, I find her fun to play however and hope I can play her again.
In my previous campaign I played a Homebrew Water/Air Genasi.. who had red skin- as paladin. It was SUPER fun! Using wild air and water manipulation abilities in a basic sword and shield build was really interesting and felt like a breath of *fresh air* for *fluid* combat and movement! I encourage everyone reading this to consider playing a Genasi or Homebrew-ing a Genasi concept.
I found a loop hole for the tossing a green baby out thing. I made my Rouge a Water Gensei/ Sea Elf hybrid. My character had the Gene in her family but only mine was active. Because of this rare trait, my village was captured and sold into slave labor. And because im a Sea Elf my skin is already a bluish green.
I use a Water Genasi Druid that was a druidic navigator for a naval vessel. His name is Captain “Morgan” Brew. He isn’t an actual captain thats just what his parents named him. He’s got a sister named Baroness and a lucky baby brother named Cold. Makes a mean ale that one.
I like to flavour the Water Genasi's swim speed as basically flying in water, because of their link to the water it can't hinder their movement, so they move through it freely
Genasis can be formed by Ganasi x genasi Djnn (any gender not only men) x mortal being (can be any race) Sometimes when you had a genasi ancestor you might be born as a genasi And as like in the video they might got it from some wierd elemental magic. Fire Genasi War Wizards are the best :)
Weird hot take question: Has there ever been an iteration of Genasi with the classical eastern elements of water, fire, metal, wood, and earth? 🤔 We always see the western elements in these sorta settings in fantasy works. So it’s an interesting what-if to think about imo.
I'm thinking up a water genasi druid (Land: Coast) thats becoming super fun conceptually. Surfer dude, chill and laid back, wanting to ride every choice wave he can
having now pretty much watched every video on this channel i can, i have come to the conclusion that my life cannot be complete until i play in a game with Davvy Chappy, weather as DM or Fellow Player. this is one of my highest honors, even if im 1005 not the person to be handing out honors to other people who i matter less than XD
Most fun thing about the Genasi to me is having them turn into para-elements, have powerful connections to different planes of existence, and coming up with incredible innate powers for them through epic boons, official and homebrewed.
I'm playing a Water Genasi Horizon Walker Ranger in a Princes of the Apocalypse campaign and she has a lot of spells for being at Lv. 3 for she has Shape Water, Create and Destroy Water, Cure Wounds, Detect Magic, Hail of Thorns, and Protection from Good and Evil
Theoretically yes, but the earth and air genasi get a second level spell at level one, a privilege (I think) exclusive to them. Other races need to wait until level three to get spells like that.
Curly Haired Rogue But they can only use that second level spell effectively once per day. Which can feel a bit bland to me at times. I feel like the air Genasi should have at least gotten a permanent flying speed at some point.
Spectre Dan TL;DR: I like your energy, but the way they are currently is already quite good, even if they aren’t as flavorful as you’d like. There are plenty of ways you can attain that without a racial feature. Besides, this is effectively level one flight, and if you pick up a friend with it, you can move them as though it were flight. Look, I’m not saying it wouldn’t be cool if all the genasi got some neat permanent feature. But they already have some pretty neat stuff. Fire: projectile attack and light source as well as darkvision and resistance to an incredibly common elemental damage type. Water: Basic waterbending at will, swim speed, resistance to a slightly less common damage type, and the ability to breath underwater. Flavorful and a fair deal of function in the right circumstances. Air: Can breathe ANYWHERE (i.e. water and non-water liquids, inside a bag of holding, in a room filled with noxious gas, etc.), and two of the most common and useful physical attributes are given to them. Earth: Stone spikes? Not a problem. Craggy ground? What’s that? One of your party used earthquake or any other earth-altering spell to put a ton of difficult terrain everywhere? What was that? I was too busy chasing down our foes and beating them with a rock. (And even if you ignore that, pass without a trace is THE most useful stealth spell PERIOD.)
@@CurlyHairedRogue I'll give ya that. It's not like they're the worst things ever as they are. The infinite breath is definitely the best feature that the air genasi have. Earth genasi's ability hinges on there being a lot of difficult terrain, which means the DM has to play up to that or the party synergy has to have that in mind. Not to say they aren't rad. Earth genasi are my favorite of the four aesthetically. I tend toward Rule of Cool when it comes to my games, as I can always make the enemies more challenging if I want to give the party cool things. Which is why I don't really understand the fuss with level one flight, like Aracokra and Winged Tieflings.
Spectre Dan it’s mostly the fact that people who have that ability tend to abuse it. There are a few solutions to such a problem of course, but it can be difficult to challenge certain tactics. Not that that should stop any dm from just giving the BBEG some undead archers or a mage with Earthbound.
I had an air genasi bard that had a pan flute attached to his upper arm, and would be able to play it while keeping both hands free by controlling the air movement through the pipes.
I definitely find the Genasi to be one of hte coolest races in DnD, though I definitely feel like Fire and Water got some super OP stuff, Air Genasi getting some cool stuff and Earth getting the short end of hte stick. Getting through difficult terrain made of earth is alright, though unless you're in a mountainous area or cave diving, not much use for it. And Melding with Stone for "pass without a Trace" is pretty dependent if you're being stealthy and it only works on yourself. I'd love i they had more "offensive" abilities since they're the "tanky/bulward" Genasi out of the 4. Something like StoneSkin once per rest, any or just long, or a slight boost to AC like how Pathfinder Genasi have. Make use of the Rocky Exterior in a way. Magic Stone would also be a cool addition to the Genasi, gathering rocks or "crumbling" a portion of their stone exterior to use the attack. But that's just me, I'm open to discuss on ways for the suggestions to be better balanced if any has one.
I'm playing a barbarian fire genasi named Azara who now started multiclassing into wizard in an effort to understand his own fiery nature. (Plus I just wanted to be able to use control flame because produce flame + control flame = FIERY ILLUSION ELEMENTALS THAT ACTUALLY SET THINGS ON FIRE
where did you find all of that medieval adventurer art? I really like it and the style. It's really inspiring for what I imagine I' d like to see in a campaign setting...is it from the source books?

My earth genasi cleric eats teacups and digs holes, and I love him
The Earth Genasi's _"Pass Withiout Trace"_ is probably supposed to be seen as a nod to the _"you don't leave footprints"_ part of the spell.
Currently playing an air genasi bard. He's been a lot of fun fjjdjsjs
EARTH. GENASI. NEED. THE. MOLD. EARTH. CANTRIP.
Genasis can be formed by
Ganasi x genasi
Djnn (any gender not only men) x mortal being (can be any race)
Sometimes when you had a genasi ancestor you might be born as a genasi
And as like in the video they might got it from some wierd elemental magic.
Fire Genasi War Wizards are the best :)
The baby flying joke is what got me to subscribe.,
Weird hot take question: Has there ever been an iteration of Genasi with the classical eastern elements of water, fire, metal, wood, and earth? 🤔
We always see the western elements in these sorta settings in fantasy works. So it’s an interesting what-if to think about imo.
maybe I'll homebrew that today
I'm thinking up a water genasi druid (Land: Coast) thats becoming super fun conceptually. Surfer dude, chill and laid back, wanting to ride every choice wave he can
Enter Perf and Carrow: Holy sod, he killed the river...
having now pretty much watched every video on this channel i can, i have come to the conclusion that my life cannot be complete until i play in a game with Davvy Chappy, weather as DM or Fellow Player. this is one of my highest honors, even if im 1005 not the person to be handing out honors to other people who i matter less than XD
Most fun thing about the Genasi to me is having them turn into para-elements, have powerful connections to different planes of existence, and coming up with incredible innate powers for them through epic boons, official and homebrewed.
Mefisto
A drug-addicted earth genasi with a monk background that now brews his own drugs and is a Sherlock Holmes kinda guy
YOU CANNOT KILL THE RIVER
*glares at Achilles*
I see what you did there, I approve
I'm about to be in a pirate campain. There's no way I'm not choosing water.
Now I want to play an earth genasi ranger with a pet rock companion
Thank you for doing one of my favorite races
Does anyone knows the playable race of shardmind?
I've never seen any video about them and i think everyone just forget them
Oh DavvyChappy you do not disappoint.
The beginning of the video was the first time I saw Daavy's face and he's kinda cute not gonna lie
Shape water as in the shape of water. Oh no we're not getting into some Merling Shenanigans here
First character is/was a Fire Genasi Wizard/Monk, so good!
You can't kill a river, you say...
*destroy water... Destroy water... Destroy water... *
I would name my air Genasi either Fart, or Guss.
Cory is in the fucking house...
The story of a genasi's birth always begins with one simple phrase "I seduced the genie".
Fantastic Four is just four elementals.
I still remember Calliope, the Water Genasi Wild Sorcerer in my party who never cast a single spell.
Shouldn't each of the sub-races get a cantrip that applies to their element cuz there is at least one for every element
Spectre Dan
TL;DR: I like your energy, but the way they are currently is already quite good, even if they aren’t as flavorful as you’d like.
Laughing so hard at "Burn the fire before it can burn."
I had an air genasi bard that had a pan flute attached to his upper arm, and would be able to play it while keeping both hands free by controlling the air movement through the pipes.
Instructions unclear, my campfire is pregnant.
I miss my 4th edition Storm Genasi Swordmage. It was fun shaving damage and attack rolls with you muh dude.
As far as Fire Genasi Wizards go I would find it really hard to imagine anyone letting them near any collection of parchment let alone a library
where did you find all of that medieval adventurer art? I really like it and the style. It's really inspiring for what I imagine I' d like to see in a campaign setting...is it from the source books?
I'm currently playing a Grave Cleric air genasi drug addict from a tiny village with genie problems. He didn't have a lot of friends growing up.
