Having an emotionally unstable character is super fun as a wild magic sorcerer. Like, during a more roleplay like scene, she was braiding her romantic interest's hair (because he had hair for miles). He randomly leaned up and kissed her cheek. DM made me do a con save, which I failed and my poor lady turned into a potted plant. To rub the salt in the wound, the DM rolled what type of flower I was and I got hydrangea. Poor elf boi freaked out and broke the pot, bringing back tiefling girl. A few hours later, they were swimming and the magic in the area was so intense that it was a wild magic zone. DM made me roll on the table... As our characters were being saps, a fucking UNICORN yeets between us from nowhere. Wild Magic is really fun and gets OP at higher levels when you can later choose between 2 rolls on the table.
It might be fun for you but it's a nightmare for my party and I. Also to make it worse, I am the playing it which is kind of bad considering most of my roles are very bad.

Learning about the Shadow Magic Sorcerer is what got me wanting to play DnD in the first place. The idea of creating a funny, heroic character with the edgiest magic of all sounded like such a fun time!
"uh, how did you become a Shadow Sorcerer?" "I took a wrong turn one day & I ended up in the Shadowfell" (this can be also used for all edgy archetypes to which you can totally dump Intelligence)
I love just having an average joe character who happens to be a shadow sorcerer is just like "what the fuck why do I have to have this shit" because his house got sucked into the shadow fell for a day or 2
Currently making a shadow sorceress for an upcoming campaign. I told the dm it's up to them how she got magic because she literally doesn't know. Honestly where she grew up in the setting the GM made it literally could have been anything really.

I have an Aasimar Shadow Sorcerer who his whole thing is “I am a perfect balance of shadow and light,” and all that good great edgy stuff BUT... his personality is that of Napoleon Dynamite. His name is Kevin Holyhell and for the most part he’s a scrawny little shit with the exception of when he goes into angel mode like Aasimar do during which he looks like Fabio. He’s got a brother and sister that are fallen Aasimar and they’re true edgelords who were corrupted by their dark bloodlines. Not Kevin though, he’s still here and not evil, most of the church just wonders why he’s the one they got stuck with.
U right!! I’ve always thought eldritch knights were meh. That goes for some other things too I feel like. Like how it might be better to just make a multiclassed fighter/Druid rather then going Ranger (if we’re talking phb ranger revised is a different story).

Eldritch knight get more ASI so you can power up both your martial & casting ability scores more efficiently They also get to cast a spell AND attack with war-magic, and they can cast TWO spells in 1 turn with action surge
By the time you're casting cantrips and attacking, a sorc/fighter can do the same but attack twice or use a cantrip. Casting two spells in one turn isn't a big deal when your selection is shit (EK's is) so i'll disregard that. In my goal build you go 6 fighter to go along with sorcerer, so the pure fighter only gets 1 ASI more than you and that isn't anything big especially considering you won't be lagging behind all that much AND that you'll get spells up to 7th lvl.
@@rafaelcastor2089 1-you'd have to spend sorcery points whenever you want to cast & attack at once 2-You'd have a lot less HP due to weaker hit dice 3-the ASI does matter since that can get you magic initiat or warcaster feat without while still having good modifiers, especially at late levels 4-speaking of late levels, that's when you get to attack 4 times, since you're still a pure fighter

Divine soul: Twin Spell Inflict Wounds Empowered Spell. If you have 20 Charisma you are now dealing 3d10 damage to two targets and can reroll any 5 of the dice of either casting all for the low low cost of two sorcery points. That's right. Sage Advice Compendium confirmed that Empowered Spell works on dice from both attacks for twinned spells. Oh and did I mention that was at level 3 using a level one spell slot? Yeah. Nothing nasty with the Divine Soul.
I like to twin haste & the melee cantrips... while also having mobile. You could pick Aaracokra for full cancer (120 ft flying speed, and with to dash actions becomes 360 ft in a turn) but I tend to go Shifter because I like having the temp hp. Its a rly fun build that can actually get down and dirty with melee using hit and run tactics similar to Drunken Master.
I want to thank you for making this video. The rest of the sorcerer vids complain through half of the content instead of actually coaching you about the class.
@@thedoomslayer8900 I found fire bolts useful,but my dm doesn't use a table for wild magic,they instead decide....I almost kill the party a lot....needless to say...NPCs don't last long if they travel in the party
@@thedoomslayer8900 well I almost kill my self with fire bolt,it can end up a nuke if I go all out wild effect (dm was smiling when asked for it as a meta magic aspect) basically I can raise a spell to be extremely powerful,however my control of exacts tend to go all way and it can also be slightly tame since it's basically gambling with the dice good for the effects

Divine soul was actually my first class playing DnD. His main trait was that, despite being blessed by a divine entity, he isn't sure what his purpose in life is and is struggling to find what he's meant to do in the world.
I had a storm sorcerer in one game, and he was my favorite character. I had a bad habit of jumping up close and blasting my enemies with massive amounts of damage. Because of that I once got chased by 3 dragonlings around a small room while blasting them with thunder wave
for a second I was like....wait a second....lighting and thunder damage are two different things, so I looked it up....thunder damage is just sonic damage...like its just fucking sound.
Sever Knight11 no force damage is like....well think of like dragon ball attacks, it can cut or it can smash, thunder damage is known in other games as sonic damage as it is a force generated by sound waves
Say that last part again but slowly. Then say outloud what sound is. I guess the most I would split them up as is a concentrated force or a wide spread force. Which is what thunder is because a shockwave aka sound attacks are generally wide spread
a while back the russians were working on a proto type weapon that used sound waves to utterly crush people. it was the equivalent of getting hit by hammers 400 times (it turned all your organs into mush) within a second but it did that to everyone including the guy using the weapon so they scrapped it.
I don't mind the flavor of the official Sorcerer archetypes so far, but it annoys me that, unlike the other classes, we haven't gotten one that feels like a quintessential Sorcerer. In my opinion, the most important Sorcerer archetype they should have released in the PHB is an elemental Sorcerer that chooses either Air, Earth, Fire, or Water and gets abilities from that element.
That makes very little sense, in the grand scheme of things. The reason why there are direct upgrade subclasses is cause all the other classes have a specific side to them that can be expanded naturally. Sorcerers lack that cause the one thing they have that's unique, Metamagic, is very much something that can turn broken if going deeper. For one, I find that it's a good thing that there isn't a direct upgrade cause the Sorcerer isn't as linear as other classes are, it's a claim you can't really control most of the time. But a unique sorcerer spell would be dope
Shadow sorcerer with a few levels in warlock was a lot of fun. Drop darkness and then just shoot EB at all the enemies with the invocation that pulls them back toward you. I liked to imagine this swirling mass of darkness and eldritch hands shooting out to grab and draw in enemies that just want to run away because they can't see inside the cloud. It terrified my party.
I don't know which of the last three subclasses sound more appealing to me. On one hand I can effectively keep myself from dying. On the other hand I can effectively keep myself from dying. I also just realized that I'm probably blinding my allies if I were a shadow sorcerer. But who cares about their teammates.

Despite the long name and the Harem elements and hestia's ribbon its a good series.Especially given the maincharacter isn't a complete blank slate who's amazing he's basically a nice kid who got blessed awsome he still has to work his ass off for. The books are better as with most things. The spin off anime is ok. I mean its good but the way they handled Loki being a Perv constantly going after leyfia is abit annoying. Although in defense of the much loathed Leyfia's she's an elf and going to grow slowly. For the record the only reason the name is so long is that the publlisher forced the author to do it. although it does lead to the side series being called "Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon? on the side: Sword oratoria.

I had made a half elf wild mage, and this faulty chaos magic is actually a birth defect from having human blood To explain magic, he was trained by his elven father, and trying to control it. Controlling the magic is his goal in the story. Then to explain all of the physical weapons, his human mother taught him this, and he’s progressively gotten better
I feel like if they ever re-did the sorcerer adding some of the stuff from the School of Invention UA would make it feel a lot better and be extremely thematic
The MOST FUN character I have (and probably ever will) play was a Wild Magic Sorcerer! He sort of became the party’s ranger and mage. I tried to address lots of things that bothered me about the lack of depth of the class on 5e PHB through an rp approach. So he was this raised by his mage father half-elf who had the best education along with his 5 half-brothers, but who was always better on memorisation and less keen on carrying books that helped only in very specific situations around - although he was very clever. And then he had a planar trip to Feywild where his chaotic magic came from, except he forgot. So suddenly he’s in this forest and he’s a lot more powerful and why doesn’t his leg work properly anymore wait how did he understand a DRUID? WHY IS HE BLUE? He later finds out a hundred years had passed in that forest and his whole personal arch was about discovering what the heck happened to him. Also, he got mistaken for a druid everywhere he went which did cause more trouble than I originally imagined. I just love characters with high Wisdom they can be headaches to DMs. I see lots of people here complaining that the class gets boring through the levels, but it’s all about building your character right. d&d is a lot more than just combat. So only caring about your sorcerer’s Charisma, Constitution and Dexterity might seem like a good idea, but most likely will get boring. Pick up skills and languages. Plan your background. Make a list of spells you want to get - you really have only few chances and want to make it right so planning ahead helps even if you won’t follow strictly - and relate them to your character’s history. Unless your fun really comes from casting immense powerful fireballs, in that case go on.
I did something similar with my Divine Soul Sorcerer Lord Fluffy Bottoms, immortal emporer of Nipon and a Shiba Inu in a suit. But rather than preplan everything I just sorta made a joke that spiraled into an endless loop of darker and darker shit. At the end of his life he had been revealed to be a dictator that everyone feared, had mutilated his family, killed off an entire race except for the PC, and had only ever hugged his favorite son once the same day that same son hired another PC to murder me. Honestly it might have a cool and climactic battle had I not taken Alert making his sneak attack not work. I also multiclassed in a Fighter so I had heavy armor and could completely stoomp him with a few empowered Cone of Colds since he tended to roll low. But in the ebd i decided that I didnt want to be a healer anymore and let him kill me only using my non magical lance to attack. And so ended the reign of the Bork.
Just concocted a Divine Soul Sorcerer descended from Zuggtmoy...otherwise known as The Lady of Rot, or referred to as "that mushroom lady". The sorcerer borrows a ton of necrotic spells from the cleric spell list, creating a tiefling with access to a variety of fungal or spore spells...and with metamagics, they are absolutely devastating.
Easily my favorite and most played class in DnD. Have played a phoenix sorcerer, shadow sorcerer, wild magic sorcerer, and draconic sorcerer. They've all been an absolute blast to play

My first ever character was a Half-Elf Draconic Sorcerer! People always say that new players should play fighters and stuff, but I don’t really get that.
I love your videos. I was the first of my friends to start with DND. I sort of had to open the way for them. There was a lot of content and it was a bit intimidating. Your videos really took the edge off and streamlined the process in an entertaining way. Always recommend your content.
Sorcerer is my favorite class by far. My dm allows us to be proficient in 1 wepon of our choice, so I pick a longsword made of dragon bone. But since bone is much lighter than metal my DM allows it to have the finesse trait. I play variant human that starts with spell sniper feat and pick green-flame blade (the range is 5 feet so it's fair game) which then increases it to 10 feet, then I can spend sorcery points to double the range again making it 20 feet and at 6th level I have an ability to add my charisma modifier to 1 damage dice of a spell related to my damage type (fire). 14th level I get bad ass golden dragon wings and fly within 20 feet of my target and send flaming slashes soaring through the air and absolutely devastate targets with one hell of a badass cantrip combination. And if I were to use the quickend spell sorcery point thing then I can do 2 attacks with it, causing an average (based on my characters stats having +3 dex and +4 cha) of 66 DAMAGE EVERY ROUND WITH A CANTRIP AT 17TH LEVEL!!
My DM and I came up with a unique Sorcerer Sub-Archetype. Wild Magic Sorcerer, but the Wild Magic triggers when the Player Character emotes. As in, the charactermust remain emotionless and monotone at all times, or risk their curse of Wild Magic suddenly triggering and causing something random from the table to occur. :-) Think Ben Stein from the Cleareyes commercials or the Teacher from Ferris Beuller's Day Off (both were Ben Stein the actor) but a Wild Magic Sorcere. I flavored him with the Sage - Librarian background and made him a Librarian in a library in Neverwinter. :-P Freaking HILARIOUS!!! :-D
Shadow Sorcerer is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me too. I know it’s as painfully edgy as an 8th grader’s OC, but I just love the half-undead aesthetic of it! There’s so much actually good flavor in there.
Your vids are some of the best out there right now. You should start doing some vids on specific builds once you have all of the other general stuff out of the way.

I've actually build Chaos Sorcerer characters that use the 'nudge the dice' effects to good advantage. Note: Since Cantrips don't trigger the random table you can dish your spells into spell points and then NUKE someone with a directed Chaos effect.
One of my favorite things to do is to use the extended spell meta magic and multiclass into a wizard to see how many buffs I can apply before the DM tries to strangle me from across the table
the best part is a lot of buffs are not concentration buffs so I can cast them with other buffs now imagine a bear totem barbarian with 24 hours of mirror image, long strider, haste, and whatever other buffs I can cram onto said barbarian tell the barbarian to kick ass and chew good berries and that he is all out of good berries
I don't know if you've actually read the metamagic or any of the spells you've mentioned but this really doesn't work. Mirror image has a range of self, haste is concentration so can't be used with any other concentration buff and extended spell only allows you to *double* the time. Considering most buffs last a minute to an hour this results in a maximum duration of 2 hours for most buffs.
one neat thing about the sorcerer is that once you get access to sorcerer points it is way easier just to keep track of your sorcerer points then your actual spell slots because if you convert an 8th level spell into sorcerer points you can turn it into 8 1st level spell slots meaning you can just treat your sorcerer point pool as spell slots which honestly I think is what wizards of the coast should have done from the get go I actually made a home brewed version of this fairly easily and my players loved it

Sorcerer is a great multiclass option, for my Fighter character, I plan on multiclassing into a Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer at lvl 3, I'm gonna be decended from a Red Dragon and specialize in fire and lightning magic, but seeing how I'm also still a Fighter, I can go ham on my foes with a longsword lol
'Read a D&D play story where a Wild Magic Sorcerer TPK'd his own party in the first minute of play by Wild Surging while casting a Detect Magic spell. He rolled the Fireball centered on himself, and rolled for near maximum damage. Killing himself and all his fellow 1st level party members in the 1st minute of the campaign. :D
They do have one unique spell though, Chaos Bolt 1st Level Spell 1d8 damage and you roll another d8 and that changes the element based on the number, and can jump to another target .
The character I'm playing now in my dnd game is a shadow magic sorcerer that has hella anxiety from her haunted one background, so my dm homebrewed a magic surge table, similar to the one wild magic sorcerers use, to spice things up whenever my character gets too emotional about something in game. Her powers are connected with her emotions so when she feels strongly about something she runs the risk of surging lol. This concept has honestly created some really funny scenes in game I really like playing a sorcerer who has magic surges for that reason. I think one of the funniest scenes the party had from one of her surges was when we were being chased by a group of angry orcs and she got scared and had a surge and turned our tank into a sheep for the few hours lol XD 10/10 recommend playing a character who has magic surges
I've been playing my wild mage Entropy for 2 years, she's level 11 and hasn't killed any party members yet lol. She's a really short, barely adult half orc and kinda the "little sister" trope character, who loves flying around on her broom, dressing up and setting stuff on fire. She has custom armour made from a creature of my DMs creation that we fought and skinned, which is fire resistent- this is pretty uh... Useful. She's such a dumbass. She once refused to fight a cranky fairy dragon that she had to fight because she wanted to keep it. She kept trying to pat it and eventually it got so shitty it bit her and wouldn't let go. She did not manage to tame it lol it was dumb. She's matured a lot since that point after all she and her friends have been through but she's still kinda silly and impulsive. I love her though.
What's really cool about the sorcerer is that you can exchange lower level spell slots for a ton of sorcery points, which you can then exchange for a higher level spell slot, or the other way around. You can have a 3rd level spell slot at level 3! That's awesome. So imagine this: exchange a bunch of lower level spell slots for a spell slot at a way higher level than you would normally have at your level. Then, use that high level spell slot to cast fireball, which you then use metamagic on to max out its damage and give everyone disadvantage on the saving throw. Then, if you have a Grave Domain cleric, they can use their channel divinity to make a target gain VULNERABILITY. to a MAXED OUT FIREBALL.
Wild Magic Sorcerer with the optional rules listed in the description basically will make wild magic sorcerers into wheels of fortune at higher levels because literally everything you will be casting will turn magic
As a divine soul sorcerer, I eventually gained access to Planar Ally. Using Magic Circle and Banishment along with Heightened Spell Metamagic as backups in case things go south, I acted as a middle ground diplomat between a Solar and another PC in our party. He was interested in multiclassing into Warlock, and Me being the main “healer” of the group was starting to weaken a bit. So he settled on the Celestial Patron. Feel Free to steal this idea if you want. It’s pretty fun to use as a Divine Soul Sorcerer because Sorcerers are naturally good at Charisma based skills, making you genuinely love debating with Fey, Fiends, and Celestials all around, asking for information, making deals, etc. It made my party rely on me when it came to getting information. I felt like Harry Dresden throughout the campaign.
So if you are a storm sorcerer and have twinned haste you can make your two melee tanks supermen with wind soul or use one on yourself to have a max range of 480 ft per round or 250 per round if you wanna attack. Becoming a magical harrier jet with 22-27 AC and adv on dex saves since your "fly spell"(windsoul) no longer requires concentration.
UA Giant Soul Sorcerer is really the best one imo, shame its iconic ability comes in later and its not official. I hope they take inspiration from it for the future subclasses. Some of the others are nice and the wild magic has a special place in my hear- Its just not well made sadly.
Ehh I think its alright, and some of the abilities are neat- just personally doesn't push my buttons. The draconic bloodline doesn't really feel as epic as it should (Like the Giant soul does). Still, was my opinion and enjoy what you enjoy!

I'm actually working to set up a second character should my first one die. The first one will be her adoptive grandfather (he adopted one of her parents long before her birth) and is a Bronze Dragonborn Monk. She herself will be a Tiefling Sorceress that was encouraged to study by her grandfather, as he had in his time as an acolyte . Though he studied hand to hand combat, she studies her magic. I'm not sure which Archetype she'll fall into. Shadow maybe for the Hell Hound? But Storm or Dragon are more likely. Dragon since her grandfather was a first generation dragonborn (hatched from an egg and everything), or Storm since she would still get flight and Lightning, as well as the Thunder resistance. That Divine Soul Archetype is also an option since she likely will have some religious teachings from her grandfather, who worshipped Bahamut.
I've read the wild magic table, and while quite a few of the effects are detrimental to the caster, you only really need to watch out for 1 of them Casting fireball on yourself And it's not actually that bad, because you inly have a 5% chance of triggering magic surge each time you cast anything other than a cantrip (unless you've given yourself advantage on a roll and haven't finished a long rest, in which case the DM can make you roll one at their discretion) And any given random effect is a 1/50 chance There's a reason people keep making their own wild magic tables, not enough risk in the official one

I sacrified a spell just to take absorb elements so I wouldn't die to this. Only one other mage in my team has absorb elements.

Learning about the Shadow Magic Sorcerer is what got me wanting to play DnD in the first place. The idea of creating a funny, heroic character with the edgiest magic of all sounded like such a fun time!
This is literally how Tovarisch my Shadar-kai Shadow Sorcerer came about.

(this can be also used for all edgy archetypes to which you can totally dump Intelligence)
I love just having an average joe character who happens to be a shadow sorcerer is just like "what the fuck why do I have to have this shit" because his house got sucked into the shadow fell for a day or 2
Currently making a shadow sorceress for an upcoming campaign. I told the dm it's up to them how she got magic because she literally doesn't know. Honestly where she grew up in the setting the GM made it literally could have been anything really.

I have an Aasimar Shadow Sorcerer who his whole thing is “I am a perfect balance of shadow and light,” and all that good great edgy stuff BUT... his personality is that of Napoleon Dynamite.
His name is Kevin Holyhell and for the most part he’s a scrawny little shit with the exception of when he goes into angel mode like Aasimar do during which he looks like Fabio. He’s got a brother and sister that are fallen Aasimar and they’re true edgelords who were corrupted by their dark bloodlines. Not Kevin though, he’s still here and not evil, most of the church just wonders why he’s the one they got stuck with.

U right!! I’ve always thought eldritch knights were meh. That goes for some other things too I feel like. Like how it might be better to just make a multiclassed fighter/Druid rather then going Ranger (if we’re talking phb ranger revised is a different story).

Eldritch knight get more ASI so you can power up both your martial & casting ability scores more efficiently
They also get to cast a spell AND attack with war-magic, and they can cast TWO spells in 1 turn with action surge
By the time you're casting cantrips and attacking, a sorc/fighter can do the same but attack twice or use a cantrip. Casting two spells in one turn isn't a big deal when your selection is shit (EK's is) so i'll disregard that. In my goal build you go 6 fighter to go along with sorcerer, so the pure fighter only gets 1 ASI more than you and that isn't anything big especially considering you won't be lagging behind all that much AND that you'll get spells up to 7th lvl.

2-You'd have a lot less HP due to weaker hit dice
3-the ASI does matter since that can get you magic initiat or warcaster feat without while still having good modifiers, especially at late levels
4-speaking of late levels, that's when you get to attack 4 times, since you're still a pure fighter

Divine soul: Twin Spell Inflict Wounds Empowered Spell. If you have 20 Charisma you are now dealing 3d10 damage to two targets and can reroll any 5 of the dice of either casting all for the low low cost of two sorcery points. That's right. Sage Advice Compendium confirmed that Empowered Spell works on dice from both attacks for twinned spells. Oh and did I mention that was at level 3 using a level one spell slot? Yeah. Nothing nasty with the Divine Soul.
I like to Twin Shield of Faith, which technically lets you concentrate on 2 spells, and you protect the melee fighters.
I like to twin haste & the melee cantrips... while also having mobile. You could pick Aaracokra for full cancer (120 ft flying speed, and with to dash actions becomes 360 ft in a turn) but I tend to go Shifter because I like having the temp hp.
Its a rly fun build that can actually get down and dirty with melee using hit and run tactics similar to Drunken Master.

Divine soul was actually my first class playing DnD. His main trait was that, despite being blessed by a divine entity, he isn't sure what his purpose in life is and is struggling to find what he's meant to do in the world.

I had a storm sorcerer in one game, and he was my favorite character. I had a bad habit of jumping up close and blasting my enemies with massive amounts of damage.
Because of that I once got chased by 3 dragonlings around a small room while blasting them with thunder wave
for a second I was like....wait a second....lighting and thunder damage are two different things, so I looked it up....thunder damage is just sonic damage...like its just fucking sound.

I guess the most I would split them up as is a concentrated force or a wide spread force. Which is what thunder is because a shockwave aka sound attacks are generally wide spread
a while back the russians were working on a proto type weapon that used sound waves to utterly crush people. it was the equivalent of getting hit by hammers 400 times (it turned all your organs into mush) within a second but it did that to everyone including the guy using the weapon so they scrapped it.
That's how banshees deal damage with their screech.
I don't mind the flavor of the official Sorcerer archetypes so far, but it annoys me that, unlike the other classes, we haven't gotten one that feels like a quintessential Sorcerer. In my opinion, the most important Sorcerer archetype they should have released in the PHB is an elemental Sorcerer that chooses either Air, Earth, Fire, or Water and gets abilities from that element.

That makes very little sense, in the grand scheme of things. The reason why there are direct upgrade subclasses is cause all the other classes have a specific side to them that can be expanded naturally. Sorcerers lack that cause the one thing they have that's unique, Metamagic, is very much something that can turn broken if going deeper. For one, I find that it's a good thing that there isn't a direct upgrade cause the Sorcerer isn't as linear as other classes are, it's a claim you can't really control most of the time.
But a unique sorcerer spell would be dope

Shadow sorcerer with a few levels in warlock was a lot of fun. Drop darkness and then just shoot EB at all the enemies with the invocation that pulls them back toward you.
I liked to imagine this swirling mass of darkness and eldritch hands shooting out to grab and draw in enemies that just want to run away because they can't see inside the cloud. It terrified my party.
I don't know which of the last three subclasses sound more appealing to me. On one hand I can effectively keep myself from dying. On the other hand I can effectively keep myself from dying.
I also just realized that I'm probably blinding my allies if I were a shadow sorcerer. But who cares about their teammates.

Goblin Slayer is based on DnD so much that the characters are not given names, spellcasters have spell slots, they even fight a Beholder.

To explain magic, he was trained by his elven father, and trying to control it. Controlling the magic is his goal in the story. Then to explain all of the physical weapons, his human mother taught him this, and he’s progressively gotten better

The MOST FUN character I have (and probably ever will) play was a Wild Magic Sorcerer! He sort of became the party’s ranger and mage.
I tried to address lots of things that bothered me about the lack of depth of the class on 5e PHB through an rp approach. So he was this raised by his mage father half-elf who had the best education along with his 5 half-brothers, but who was always better on memorisation and less keen on carrying books that helped only in very specific situations around - although he was very clever. And then he had a planar trip to Feywild where his chaotic magic came from, except he forgot. So suddenly he’s in this forest and he’s a lot more powerful and why doesn’t his leg work properly anymore wait how did he understand a DRUID? WHY IS HE BLUE? He later finds out a hundred years had passed in that forest and his whole personal arch was about discovering what the heck happened to him. Also, he got mistaken for a druid everywhere he went which did cause more trouble than I originally imagined. I just love characters with high Wisdom they can be headaches to DMs.
I see lots of people here complaining that the class gets boring through the levels, but it’s all about building your character right. d&d is a lot more than just combat. So only caring about your sorcerer’s Charisma, Constitution and Dexterity might seem like a good idea, but most likely will get boring. Pick up skills and languages. Plan your background. Make a list of spells you want to get - you really have only few chances and want to make it right so planning ahead helps even if you won’t follow strictly - and relate them to your character’s history. Unless your fun really comes from casting immense powerful fireballs, in that case go on.
I did something similar with my Divine Soul Sorcerer Lord Fluffy Bottoms, immortal emporer of Nipon and a Shiba Inu in a suit. But rather than preplan everything I just sorta made a joke that spiraled into an endless loop of darker and darker shit. At the end of his life he had been revealed to be a dictator that everyone feared, had mutilated his family, killed off an entire race except for the PC, and had only ever hugged his favorite son once the same day that same son hired another PC to murder me. Honestly it might have a cool and climactic battle had I not taken Alert making his sneak attack not work. I also multiclassed in a Fighter so I had heavy armor and could completely stoomp him with a few empowered Cone of Colds since he tended to roll low. But in the ebd i decided that I didnt want to be a healer anymore and let him kill me only using my non magical lance to attack. And so ended the reign of the Bork.
Just concocted a Divine Soul Sorcerer descended from Zuggtmoy...otherwise known as The Lady of Rot, or referred to as "that mushroom lady".
The sorcerer borrows a ton of necrotic spells from the cleric spell list, creating a tiefling with access to a variety of fungal or spore spells...and with metamagics, they are absolutely devastating.
I play a Half-Elf (Drow) Divine Soul. Distant Spell plus Spiritual Guardians while I ride My spiritual weapon (surfboard) above a wave of Guards.

Easily my favorite and most played class in DnD. Have played a phoenix sorcerer, shadow sorcerer, wild magic sorcerer, and draconic sorcerer. They've all been an absolute blast to play

My first ever character was a Half-Elf Draconic Sorcerer! People always say that new players should play fighters and stuff, but I don’t really get that.
I love your videos. I was the first of my friends to start with DND. I sort of had to open the way for them. There was a lot of content and it was a bit intimidating. Your videos really took the edge off and streamlined the process in an entertaining way. Always recommend your content.
Sorcerer is my favorite class by far. My dm allows us to be proficient in 1 wepon of our choice, so I pick a longsword made of dragon bone. But since bone is much lighter than metal my DM allows it to have the finesse trait. I play variant human that starts with spell sniper feat and pick green-flame blade (the range is 5 feet so it's fair game) which then increases it to 10 feet, then I can spend sorcery points to double the range again making it 20 feet and at 6th level I have an ability to add my charisma modifier to 1 damage dice of a spell related to my damage type (fire). 14th level I get bad ass golden dragon wings and fly within 20 feet of my target and send flaming slashes soaring through the air and absolutely devastate targets with one hell of a badass cantrip combination. And if I were to use the quickend spell sorcery point thing then I can do 2 attacks with it, causing an average (based on my characters stats having +3 dex and +4 cha) of 66 DAMAGE EVERY ROUND WITH A CANTRIP AT 17TH LEVEL!!
My DM and I came up with a unique Sorcerer Sub-Archetype. Wild Magic Sorcerer, but the Wild Magic triggers when the Player Character emotes. As in, the charactermust remain emotionless and monotone at all times, or risk their curse of Wild Magic suddenly triggering and causing something random from the table to occur. :-)
Think Ben Stein from the Cleareyes commercials or the Teacher from Ferris Beuller's Day Off (both were Ben Stein the actor) but a Wild Magic Sorcere. I flavored him with the Sage - Librarian background and made him a Librarian in a library in Neverwinter. :-P

Shadow Sorcerer is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me too. I know it’s as painfully edgy as an 8th grader’s OC, but I just love the half-undead aesthetic of it! There’s so much actually good flavor in there.
Your vids are some of the best out there right now. You should start doing some vids on specific builds once you have all of the other general stuff out of the way.

I've actually build Chaos Sorcerer characters that use the 'nudge the dice' effects to good advantage. Note: Since Cantrips don't trigger the random table you can dish your spells into spell points and then NUKE someone with a directed Chaos effect.

I love sorcerer, my favorite class. Hands down.
One of my favorite things to do is to use the extended spell meta magic and multiclass into a wizard to see how many buffs I can apply before the DM tries to strangle me from across the table
the best part is a lot of buffs are not concentration buffs so I can cast them with other buffs now imagine a bear totem barbarian with 24 hours of mirror image, long strider, haste, and whatever other buffs I can cram onto said barbarian tell the barbarian to kick ass and chew good berries and that he is all out of good berries
combine this with a few magic items and you have a recipe for creating 24 hour gods
I don't know if you've actually read the metamagic or any of the spells you've mentioned but this really doesn't work.
Mirror image has a range of self, haste is concentration so can't be used with any other concentration buff and extended spell only allows you to *double* the time. Considering most buffs last a minute to an hour this results in a maximum duration of 2 hours for most buffs.
one neat thing about the sorcerer is that once you get access to sorcerer points it is way easier just to keep track of your sorcerer points then your actual spell slots because if you convert an 8th level spell into sorcerer points you can turn it into 8 1st level spell slots meaning you can just treat your sorcerer point pool as spell slots which honestly I think is what wizards of the coast should have done from the get go I actually made a home brewed version of this fairly easily and my players loved it

Sorcerer is a great multiclass option, for my Fighter character, I plan on multiclassing into a Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer at lvl 3, I'm gonna be decended from a Red Dragon and specialize in fire and lightning magic, but seeing how I'm also still a Fighter, I can go ham on my foes with a longsword lol
'Read a D&D play story where a Wild Magic Sorcerer TPK'd his own party in the first minute of play by Wild Surging while casting a Detect Magic spell. He rolled the Fireball centered on himself, and rolled for near maximum damage. Killing himself and all his fellow 1st level party members in the 1st minute of the campaign. :D
Divine Soul sounds really cool
They do have one unique spell though, Chaos Bolt 1st Level Spell 1d8 damage and you roll another d8 and that changes the element based on the number, and can jump to another target .

I'm a big fan of disabling sorcerer, monk, and battlemaster and making metamagic/wild, maneuvers, and ki things that anyone can learn.
Anyone can learn maneuvers; it's a feat.

The character I'm playing now in my dnd game is a shadow magic sorcerer that has hella anxiety from her haunted one background, so my dm homebrewed a magic surge table, similar to the one wild magic sorcerers use, to spice things up whenever my character gets too emotional about something in game. Her powers are connected with her emotions so when she feels strongly about something she runs the risk of surging lol. This concept has honestly created some really funny scenes in game I really like playing a sorcerer who has magic surges for that reason. I think one of the funniest scenes the party had from one of her surges was when we were being chased by a group of angry orcs and she got scared and had a surge and turned our tank into a sheep for the few hours lol XD 10/10 recommend playing a character who has magic surges

I've been playing my wild mage Entropy for 2 years, she's level 11 and hasn't killed any party members yet lol. She's a really short, barely adult half orc and kinda the "little sister" trope character, who loves flying around on her broom, dressing up and setting stuff on fire. She has custom armour made from a creature of my DMs creation that we fought and skinned, which is fire resistent- this is pretty uh... Useful. She's such a dumbass. She once refused to fight a cranky fairy dragon that she had to fight because she wanted to keep it. She kept trying to pat it and eventually it got so shitty it bit her and wouldn't let go. She did not manage to tame it lol it was dumb. She's matured a lot since that point after all she and her friends have been through but she's still kinda silly and impulsive. I love her though.
What's really cool about the sorcerer is that you can exchange lower level spell slots for a ton of sorcery points, which you can then exchange for a higher level spell slot, or the other way around. You can have a 3rd level spell slot at level 3! That's awesome. So imagine this: exchange a bunch of lower level spell slots for a spell slot at a way higher level than you would normally have at your level. Then, use that high level spell slot to cast fireball, which you then use metamagic on to max out its damage and give everyone disadvantage on the saving throw. Then, if you have a Grave Domain cleric, they can use their channel divinity to make a target gain VULNERABILITY. to a MAXED OUT FIREBALL.

Wild Magic Sorcerer with the optional rules listed in the description basically will make wild magic sorcerers into wheels of fortune at higher levels because literally everything you will be casting will turn magic
As a divine soul sorcerer, I eventually gained access to Planar Ally. Using Magic Circle and Banishment along with Heightened Spell Metamagic as backups in case things go south, I acted as a middle ground diplomat between a Solar and another PC in our party. Feel Free to steal this idea if you want. It’s pretty fun to use as a Divine Soul Sorcerer because Sorcerers are naturally good at Charisma based skills, making you genuinely love debating with Fey, Fiends, and Celestials all around, asking for information, making deals, etc. It made my party rely on me when it came to getting information. I felt like Harry Dresden throughout the campaign.

I was likened to Nico Di Angelo in high school.
So if you are a storm sorcerer and have twinned haste you can make your two melee tanks supermen with wind soul or use one on yourself to have a max range of 480 ft per round or 250 per round if you wanna attack. Becoming a magical harrier jet with 22-27 AC and adv on dex saves since your "fly spell"(windsoul) no longer requires concentration.

UA Giant Soul Sorcerer is really the best one imo, shame its iconic ability comes in later and its not official. I hope they take inspiration from it for the future subclasses. Some of the others are nice and the wild magic has a special place in my hear- Its just not well made sadly.

Ehh I think its alright, and some of the abilities are neat- just personally doesn't push my buttons. The draconic bloodline doesn't really feel as epic as it should (Like the Giant soul does). Still, was my opinion and enjoy what you enjoy!

Draconic (Red) Sorcerer Fire Genasi: I AM A FIRE GOD!!
I'm actually working to set up a second character should my first one die. The first one will be her adoptive grandfather (he adopted one of her parents long before her birth) and is a Bronze Dragonborn Monk. She herself will be a Tiefling Sorceress that was encouraged to study by her grandfather, as he had in his time as an acolyte . Though he studied hand to hand combat, she studies her magic.
I'm not sure which Archetype she'll fall into. Shadow maybe for the Hell Hound? But Storm or Dragon are more likely. Dragon since her grandfather was a first generation dragonborn (hatched from an egg and everything), or Storm since she would still get flight and Lightning, as well as the Thunder resistance. That Divine Soul Archetype is also an option since she likely will have some religious teachings from her grandfather, who worshipped Bahamut.
I've read the wild magic table, and while quite a few of the effects are detrimental to the caster, you only really need to watch out for 1 of them

And it's not actually that bad, because you inly have a 5% chance of triggering magic surge each time you cast anything other than a cantrip (unless you've given yourself advantage on a roll and haven't finished a long rest, in which case the DM can make you roll one at their discretion)
And any given random effect is a 1/50 chance
There's a reason people keep making their own wild magic tables, not enough risk in the official one
Divine Soul + Ritual Caster Feat (Wizard) = "hey, I got access to choose my spells from 3 different lists!"
Not a bad combo, but I prefer Divine Soul + Magic Initiate to get a couple more cantrips and Find Familiar.
