It depends on what I’m filming. Sony A7s III is my main camera, Osmo Action 4 is my vlog/pov camera, Insta360 X4 is my bts camera, and Osmo Pocket 3 is my vlog camera.
1) Action 4 for the field of view, Durability, Weather proofing. Get a lot of the background which is better than a closeup of the face 2) Osmo for the DOF looks, low light,

As one who can't get over the self consciousness when trying to film with a regular sized action cam and couldn't get to grips with the pocket 1 (too small a screen for my middle aged eyesight and too much of a faff to use the mimo app ( as well as intrusive ) , I went with a Go 3 ,which is ok for filming incongruously in public ... Now gutted to see the pocket 3 and what it can do

That said, what are your thoughts on using either camera in a RUclips studio setting in place of a (possibly much) more expensive dslr camera? I know at least with the 3 there’s a webcam setting but how good is it? Specifically with the proper lighting placement and settings, and good sound equipment, can a content creator get by with either of these cameras?
I’d definitely say the Pocket 3 would be the better option over the Action 4. With proper lighting, the quality of the footage will be good. I’d suggest getting a lav mic to use with the wireless transmitter for better quality or boom a shotgun mic and then sync the audio in post.
Get both. Action 4 is waterproof/weatherproof and has swappable higher capacity batteries. Pocket 3 has tracking, and has the super large 1' sensor which has proven very capable of pulling off very clean night videos.

When I get mine I will most definitely get your LUTs. Footage looks amazing! That is one reason I like to listen to you because other reviewers own take on colour grading is not there really. @@TamaraGabrielUK Tamara, imagine this for a DJI product. An Action 5 with built in support for a wireless microphone and a 1” sensor. Then a separate gimbal made for it where you use the vertical magnetic mount on the cage to attach it to the gimbal. Two in one solution. It would be bulkier of course but the gimbal itself could be sized like the hohem or inkee falcon. Hell, the gimbal handle could use the same batteries as the camera and also act as a charging case if yo stick two batteries right in there 😊. I would buy it!
I agree your content is different… it corporates personality, confidence and you can tell you’ve spent time thinking about what the user would want to know and the only things they want to know. Not all the fluff

Could you do an overview of the motion lapse options/settings. I sold my OP2 after being very disappointed with the aspect ratio/resolution and shutter speed limitations, basically couldn’t do 4K night lapses
Mine is coming Thursday, but your Luts are already here. Of course you are right with this "non weather proofed"-Thing, but I saw David Manning running the whole day outside in this typical English drizzly weather (although it was an American city) and he was finde with the Pocket 3.
Thank you for this review, it actually helped with my decision and to sell my pocket 3, i bought it when it came out, because of all the other videos from other reviewers and i dont use it, i bought it to bring on holiday with me and use it for videos on scenery etc as, for some bizarre reason i never thought if it as a vlogging camera and ever since ive had it i dont like how close it is, i prefer the likes of the action 4 with its wider field of view and its weather sealed, when the p3 isn't. So im definitely going to sell the p3 as someone else will get better use out of it than me. Im not a vlogger. I bought the p3 on impulse tbh.

I was looking at both but as someone that will use it for mainly landscape/sunrise/sunset reels and occasional RUclips vids (sometimes near water) I think the OA4 is the better around and the footage (apart from night which I wouldn't use alot if anyway) is just as good as P3
If you were to film some vlog style vids but also want to do talking head vids with the same camera, would you recommend the Pocket 3 over the Action 4? However, I also record tennis trainings so would the pocket 3 be durable enough for that situation?
I sent mine back to the DJI as DOA replacement. 1) it over heated under 23mins. 2) when pressing joystick up or down it locked the gimbals positions to that direction. Was impossible to walk with it. 3) Joystick should move only up, down, left or right. One direction at the time. Mine moved fe. down and rigfht at the same time. The quality is not good. It is very plastic, Joystick cannot be replaced (Wheel is better with P2) and I dont know how long screen rotation is going to last. My typical luck.

Great video. Picked up both after watching your previous videos. I am also leaning a bit more on the Pocket 3, if the purpose is for flogging. One of the biggest differentiation (and perhaps a deciding) factor, IMO, is the upcoming release of magnetic filter lenses for the Pocket 3. Having diffusion and ND filters are defiinitely helpful when it comes to making video content. I've also seen some third party announcement on CPL and Night/Low light filters. I also think that they both serve different purposes. When I am out shooting photos, I would bring the Action 4 and clip it on the shoulder strap as a FPV camera. Otherwise, Pocket 3 for a casual walk around taking b rolls and some family videos.

I AM LOOKING to buy one of these for making short films, but my budget is under 50 k....so will action 4 be good choice...? focus and bokesh can be fixed in post. only issues is shooting in night. but night are mean to be black...these days even night shots are so light that, it kills the feeling of night.

I have both cameras. The camera is use the most is the pocket 3. But the pocket 3 is limited to the dry days outside. The action 4 a great camera more for action recording like stuck on my bike. Both have killed the gopro dead.
That was an awesome video comparison , i was trying to make my mind up between these two for my live fishing vloggs , basically filming myself when fishing , having the camera on a tripod set up in the best possible position, with a wireless mic . i love the idea of the pocket 3 but after watching your take on them both , The Action 4 will be the one as it can get wet as it will rain here in England , and there is the possibility of the tripod blowing over in the wind etc .I currently use my S22 phone on a tripod with a wireless mic , it works really well and the quality is great but i need a designated camera now .unless you can think of another better option for that Job . even i have to agree with you on all the points. yes the low light ability of pocket 3 is better, but rest of the things are superior on the action 4. plus the rugged features. i will also get the action 4.
Both. 4k walk videos. Action 4 as it's waterproof and swappable high capacity batteries. You don't want wind blowing sand or rain while using Pocket 3. And Pocket 3 for low light shooting when you don't need protection from the elements. No one device can do it all, that's why getting both gives you the flexibility as a RUclipsr and content creator. It feels like DJI doesn't need to spend money on marketing, we do it all for them.
Yep, it’s about the best tool for the job, and choosing the camera according to that. They compliment each other well. Throw a mini drone in and you’ve got a dream set up for creative content.
The problem with your pocket 2 or 3 videos is just that they look sooooooo much better than mine! 😂You seem to be able to grade them to get some level of richness that gives them a "more-than-a-small-camera" look.
Really useful comparison. Looking to get the action 4 for wet weather filming, when the pocket 3 is of no use. Do you happen to know how the mic to receiver would cope in rain, when plugged into the action 4? I'm guessing the receiver wouldn't like the rain?
Both look great! Different uses I think. I have the GoPro 12, and I really like it (especially in good light), but I’m very curious to see what DJI does with their new action camera release. Hope it’s dropping soon!

Me as a GoPro user i can say the Pocket 3 is the best camera for vlogging. That bokeh effect and the stabilization at night, makes it the best

Just subbed because your videos are straight to the point and not drawn out to be 20min long. Also, the pocket 3 definitely has better dynamic range, you can see it on highlights on peoples faces

I notice that on the pocket 3 there is background blur & on the action 4 everything is sharp. Any settings of f-stop that could change that on both?

I just got an action 4 because of your action 3 vs action 4 video. My only problem is that it overheats after 15minutes when I’m recording a videos with 2K or 4K with 40fps or more. What settings do you record to get your videos?

Finally! Been torn between gopro12 and action 4 to action 4 to pocket 3! I am now 100% sure that action4 will be my first action/vlogging camera I like the FOV and the sharpness of the background! Also for durability as it is called action camera… so excited to have one! Precious memories are coming! Thank you Tamara!
even i have to agree with you on all the points. yes the low light ability of pocket 3 is better, but rest of the things are superior on the action 4. plus the rugged features. i will also get the action 4.

Action 4 is better but just thinking what to do with my go pro accessories which I got with go pro 8.
None of this matters. Both Action 4 and Osmo Pocket 3 are soldout in my country. Can’t find it anywhere. :(

I love the bokeh of Pocket 3. However, when seeing side by side during vloging it is definitely too narrow. For other purposes 20mm is perfect.

Both. 4k walk videos. Action 4 as it's waterproof and swappable high capacity batteries. You don't want wind blowing sand or rain while using Pocket 3. And Pocket 3 for low light shooting when you don't need protection from the elements. No one device can do it all, that's why getting both gives you the flexibility as a RUclipsr and content creator. It feels like DJI doesn't need to spend money on marketing, we do it all for them.
Yep, it’s about the best tool for the job, and choosing the camera according to that. They compliment each other well. Throw a mini drone in and you’ve got a dream set up for creative content.
The problem with your pocket 2 or 3 videos is just that they look sooooooo much better than mine! 😂You seem to be able to grade them to get some level of richness that gives them a "more-than-a-small-camera" look.

Really useful comparison. Looking to get the action 4 for wet weather filming, when the pocket 3 is of no use. Do you happen to know how the mic to receiver would cope in rain, when plugged into the action 4? I'm guessing the receiver wouldn't like the rain?
Just noticed the action 4 has bluetooth for mic, so no separate receiver needed 👍
Both look great! Different uses I think. I have the GoPro 12, and I really like it (especially in good light), but I’m very curious to see what DJI does with their new action camera release. Hope it’s dropping soon!
