4-5 minutes into the video, I can tell this guy is knowledgeable, articulates it well without rambling and you can see the b roll that he shows, he knows what he’s talking about. You got a new fan. Cheers from USA.
Totally agree on the focal length. I do the R5 / Pocket 3 combo but really hope the Pocket 4 has the DJI Air 3 head with two cameras to swap between (24mm and 70mm)
Another REALLY PRACTICAL vid about how to get the very best from my current favourite camera - Thanks Hugh ! Kept looking for myself in the background in your footage from Spain. Cheers, Gav
First video of yours ive watched.. Subscribed within the first minute. I dont give out my subscription's willy nilly. You're straight to the point, very relaxed, you're not trying to be funny which makes for very cringy viewing. Just perfect.
Best video I’ve seen on the DJI pocket 3. I was worried it would be full of endless setting configurations, but easily actionable tips! I got so much from this video and your footage is incredible at driving home each point, thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you for the excellent tips. I just bought the pocket 3 and will definitely implement these tips. Thank you... And you have a new subbie from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Hi! Great video! Thank you! Please tell me, What kind of monopod do you use? How did you attach it to the monopod? So you use a regular monopod upside down? If you made a video of how you attach the OP3 and phone to the monopod, that would be great!
A lot of food for thought on this one. I can relate on the excess footage by just hitting record. I was just thinking that last night when I was editing my latest video. Thanks again. 😎
@@Natureboy-w1e I started playing around with the settings and I'm getting a much better end result! I also ordered some ND filters and will play around with them once they arrive.

Thanks a lot, I'd like to sell LUT'S but I'm not sure I know enough about that process yet. I may sell a power grade or something. Will definitely do some vids on the grading.

Thanks for the tips, recently used the Pocket 3 in Vegas and had a nightmare going from the Dark casino floors to outside. Constantly having to change filters as I wanted continuous shots. I had to remove the filter usage and set the camera camera back to default bar the shutter speed. Do you have any tips as the different lighting aspects of Vegas has really caught me off guard. I’d spent months creating the 4 camera settings to not use them. Thanks in advance
@@HuFilms I tried resolve a few years back but found the interface daunting after using Final Cut Pro, might try it again. Definitely do some resolve vids 😎
I'm glad I'm not the only one to succumb to the "quick record and go" bad habit! I've also recorded tons of sub-par footage and trying to be better at planning out my shoots more. That said, my travel style is very much the "unplanned" type so it is quite challenging to plan a shoot without taking the fun out of travelling! My holidays are my holidays and not a way for me to generate income from 🙂
Yeah, it's just the nature of the beast. The main thing is to make sure you edit your content. So many people let footage build up and not do anything with it and that'll kill your spirit. It's following through, getting it out there and seeing people's reaction, that will make or break you. I almost ditched this video half way through because I thought it wasn't good enough but I stuck with it and polished up the edit and it worked. Lesson learned.
Great tips, not so sure the wide angle accessory adds much for me I think it degrades the image a little. Thank you so much, this is very useful. I scaled back camera wise and run off iPhone 15 pro max and this for some great results.
As a Travel CC Im shooting my videos for the socials with Iphone 14 Pro max with a gimbal. I like cinematic videos. Do you think its a good idea this camera? I want to start a travel vlog here so im looking for something easier to use for orizontal and vertical videos. Even for YT and Insta. Nice video!!!
Great tips. In auto mode I find the "face" shots are often horrible in terms of exposure AND white balance which never happened with the Pocket 2. You can tell RUclipsrs who've upgraded to the P3 because they often suddenly have orange faces (if they've filmed in auto). I've got it sorted now after lots of fiddling about in manual.
Thanks, yeah, I should have mentioned this. You know when you're grading the footage and you need to constantly trim the clip to re-adjust different segments of it. It gets facial exposure and colour wrong a lot.
Simple and useful advice. Back to basics. Love it. Liked and subscribed to view more content. 💪 I love Ireland and it rains quite a bit. A big no-no for this camera. What's been your experience?
Thanks, yeah, rain sucks for any cam / lens, esp drones but at least with the Osmo you can keep it under something easily and shoot away with an umbrella!
Thanks for the informative video Hugh. I've bought the Osmo Pocket 3, but am having some trouble colour grading D-Log M. If you have any tips on this, I would very much appreciate it.
Hi! Great and interesting video. I'm looking for a camera do make some RUclips videos about board games. That's going to include studio shots, B-roll but also some on the go footage (like at a convention). Do you think the DJI osmo pocket is a good camera for this? Thanks!
I wouldn't really recommend this camera as you won't use the gimbal element. For this stuff, you'd be better off with a used mirrorless or even a blackmagic cam. You might have to spend a bit more, but it's gonna be a better option.
On a budget, it's worth it and you can get super shots if you know how to use it right. But I'd always recommend using a more high end mirrorless style cam for the bigger budget stuff.
Hey Hugh. I use the osmo for weddings and I note when I’m using it to pan left and right, final results seem clunky and jittery….what frame rate is best for silky smooth non jittery footage. Same with drop down shots…
Hey! depending on the timeline, you should always conform the frame rates so they match. Generally speaking, pan shots aren't that nice to look at so avoid panning for a start. Also, avoid using the joystick and opt to track a subject and walk sideways. Not sure if this makes sense!
Would create DJI a version that has 20-85mm zoom as well as an electronic nd filter? Then I would leave a lot of my equipment behind. Even if it was twice the weight or size
I've been saying this from the start. In 2016 DJI had a version of the X5 you could use on the Osmo handle. 5K raw MFT sensor. They didn't develop that side of things as much as they could have. It's the same with their drones. The fact that there's 3 separate cams on the drone instead of a zoom system seems a bit silly. In years to come the tech will be amazing.
Strange that in 2024 we don't have a decent camera, action or just outdoor filming. Sometimes it shoots ok, when there's a lot of light, but in the forest, when you're riding your bike, the vegetation you're passing by looked terrible.
Problem with moving in and getting tighter shots is the wide angle distortion. Whether shooting w a phone, mirrorless or pocket a tight shot with a wide angle will never look great-at least in my view. If they had a tele lens adapter it seems the osmo pocket 3 would be perfect.
Very good! Thank you for all the great info. I can see that you are not from the states, your accent made me laugh, sorry I’m not making fun of you I’m just saying, couldn’t stop laughing when I heard you say “rule of turds” which is totally different from thirds. But thank you so much, supper appreciated it.
Footage seems unusable at 25fps - don't know why but the choppiness of pans is terrible- I am having to use it only on 50 fps. I know video looks choppier on pans at lower frame rates (I have had many cameras and have a ZVE1 now) but it seems terrible on this almost unusable.
Same here, but even at 50. only 60 fps gives me perfectly smooth pans... So now that i use the pocket, i have to change the way i work, putting all my devices and software at 60 fps... 😫
