    Hard to say that the R5C beats the R5mkii “badly” without first hand experience and through testing of the overheating etc.
    The fact the R5mkii undoubtedly has much superior AF and clog2 to bring out the most DR out of the sensor as possible already sounds like enough for me personally to go with the R5mkii over the R5C… but we will have to wait for people like Josh Sattin/Gerald Undone to put of their videos of through testing before having more of an idea.
    Also, I’m sure the battery life can’t be any worse on the R5mkii over the R5C, but we will see.

      I don't think the Canon Log 2 argument is valid. I'm not sure I'd want to record Canon Log 2 into a 10-bit container. Canon Raw LT is great option for those clips where you want to "bring out the most DR out of the sensor as possible" and then you already have Log 2 (and everything else you can imagine) with the R5C.
      AF might have a few upgrades as you say. I actually didn't fall in love with the 'dual menu system' of the R5C on day one, but nowadays I think it's a strength that you're losing with the pure photo cameras.

    My biggest pain with my R5C is the missing animal-AF. Birds in a tree will be much easier when you have the AF from the R5MKII and an IBIS. So I ordered a R5MKII. What I also miss in the R5C is the prerecording (for birding) as it is not available when you use 8K-RAW-LT 60fps, and this is the quality I like to shoot (the fiew videos I make). Because of my RAW setting, I never realized (until yesterday) that the R5C has prerecording. I hope this will be available in the R5MKII in 8K-RAW 60fps, and not only in lower settings like in the R5C. Against the overheating, I ordered a stronger ventilator what I'll try to adapt to the R5MKII by using a pipe and a power bank, with the hope to overcome the overheating in 8K-RAW 60fps. I will keep the R5C, as it has advantages, and I would order any R5C MKII if it would be like the old R5C, but with the new sensor and animal-AF. If it will also get the internal ND-FILTER, then this would be my dream camera.

    • @HuFilms

      I agree, the R5 for me was also great at quickly recording a video clip of a bird when in photo mode. However, the R5C can shoot 120fps in RAW s16 crop which is a 3k wide image and great for wildlife videography. Not sure if the R5MK2 can do this.

    • @iliaskapatos
      @iliaskapatos 3 месяца назад

      @HuFilms the R5MKII can't do that. This is a good point. But it is just almost 3k when we shoot in 16mm RAW 120fps with the R5C. The quality is good in 16mm and it allows to record in RAW HQ, but I prefer 8K-RAW in FF instead of 16mm and everything you record in 16mm is also there in the FF recording where you can crop a 16mm part, but as you say not in 120fps and not in RAW-HQ.

    My dream Canon camera would be the C80 with NDs and photo functions from my R5C carried over. One could also think of it as the R5C in a C80-ish body with the larger format of the C80 body with a stronger battery. Plus internal NDs. I'd be fine with both 6K and 8K resolution. 6K might actually be usable if the larger pixels net better noise performance and faster readouts.
    But it's clear to me that the R5C does not belong in the small body format (I'm coming from 1Dc and 1Dx mkII, which is a much-preferred body size).

  • @jackmen4

    The R5ii unfortunately does not let you record 4k oversampled video above 30fps, and so any video format like 4k60,120 will look mushy and slightly hazy which is unusable for commercial work if your goal is to record in high frame rate or slow motion and maintain a clear image. Even with power delivery or an external battery will not allow you to film overersampled 60,120 and at that point you are better off recording on a canon R6mkii or R8. The R5C does allow you to record overampled 60,120

    At 6:17 the ivy vine is cut to save the tree (you cut them in two places, to create a gap like you pointed out.) We did this on our filming course when we first bought it since the ivy was untended for several years. Now we try to clear it when it shoots up. Some of the ivy trunks can get massive if left untended. Here, in the USA, it's an invasive species and will destroy forests. Not sure about Ireland. But it looks like someone went through a year or two ago and killed the larger vines based on the new ivy growth on the side of the tree.

    It's worth noting that the AF on the R5C is MUCH worse than on the R5. It failed even in simple interview situations, where the R5 managed well. It was the reason I kept my 2 R5 and not the R5C. Clearly the R3 beats the R5C with dynamic range. I love the R5C but the image quality dynamic range is a step up from the R5. That's a good thing but the R5C does not come close to the C70 which is a bench mark in the Canon Cine line up. So, going from what I know about the R5C and R3, I suspect that the R5II will have better dynamic range and AF compared to the R5C. I can work around using an external battery bank with the R5C and have no other issues with the R5C. But I prefer the image quality that the R3 give you over the R5C. I also think the R5II will hit way above the R5C because of the updated sensor and like I said better AF. Now, the R5C has that cine menu and internal has better options over the R3 or R5II. I bought my r5c after seeing that r52 needs a cooling grip. Cooling grip is not at all a solution for people who shoot serious videos. Regarding AF yes r5c AF isn't the best but it's adequate for 90% jobs especially for stills. I could track birds with my 10 year old 1dx and have 90% success rate. Battery issues solved by having a v-mount battery. So IMO r5c is still the best hybrid camera in existence.

    Canon seems to have swung that cripple hammer JUST hard enough to still give the R5C relevance and to leave room for an R5C mkii. Gotta admit, it was a pretty masterful swing. Having said that, I agree with everything you said and have been on the same mental rollercoaster as have we all regarding the R5ii. I currently have a pair of R5Cs, and the more I dive into the idea of replacing them, the more impressed I become with the R5C in it's current form.
    One thing not touched on in your video is that the R5ii will allegedly have more dynamic range than R5C... hardly a feat because the R5C isn't known to have very strong dynamic range. But, Canon giveth, and Canon taketh away oversampled 4K60. WTF. That's the cripplyest cripple hammer move I can identify with the new camera. It's got a stacked sensor, additional processor just for focus etc... there's zero reason it shouldn't be oversampling the same modes. Canon must be REALLY worried about that heat. Should've just put a fan in the da** thing. 😄

The Komodo sucks to work with compared to the R5C but at the end of the day the image is the most important thing. And you don't become a great storyteller because you have the R5C. 😎 Looking forward to hear real life/world comments about the R5ii. At the moment it's just selective reviews 😅 of people connected to Canon. Still looking forward to purchasing the R5C.

  • @greenlightstudios3469

    It seems that there hasn't really been a sensor review for the r5ii, but from what I can see the sensor is rated at 16stops of DR @ 800 ISO CLOG2 and slightly reduced DR at 4000. Unsure what the useable DR will be. Footage seemed noisy at 10000 ISO which means my zv-e1 can shoot at native 12800 but canon would be noisy in dark situations. I still think and FX3 is the best choice for the money. But Yes the R5C for the price still seems like a decent purchase for video users. Honestly I've never wanted and R5C more since the release of the r5ii. Will have to wait until CineD or Gerald does a sensor review. That being said, the talk of the R6iii has me interested, the R6 has always been the sweet spot for me. Who needs 8k raw, knowImSayin

      No camera on the market is noisy in low light. Any camera that claims to be good in low light is adding in body noise reduction. The R5C is noisy in low light because it does not add noise reduction in camera which is what you want.

    The autofocus isn’t great and my
    R5C just eats batteries even on standby. But you’re right in terms of video record time. But I also don’t shoot video for my
    That 5-10 minutes at a time so either camera will work great for that.

    The R5C was an upgrade for the R5 so Canon has no reason to produce a R5CII. If sales of the R5C were strong they Canon would certainly produce a R5C. The big question is does Canon release a C70II? Based on C70 sales they should but it would have to be a full frame sensor.

    No you don't have clog2 in raw w/ the r5c, Gerald Undone makes this clear in one of his video that when you choose clog2 in your editing software that is actually clog (1). you can try to switch betwen clog and clog2 and you can see there is no difference. clog2 is just a dummy/placeholder option.

    • @VUMEDIAGroup
      @VUMEDIAGroup 3 месяца назад +1

      So many people get this wrong, CLOG2 is tied to the DR of the sensor. The R5C's sensor is only about 11 usable stops of DR, CLOG2 needs at least 13 stops to be usable so there was no point in including CLOG2 in cameras like the R5, R6, or R7; the fact they included CLOG2 for the R5II is actually a great sign; it's our best indication yet that the R5II really does have a lot more usable DR than the R5, probably not the claimed 16+ stops, but definitely more than the R5 and R5C.

    • @contentm3893
      @contentm3893 3 месяца назад

      @@VUMEDIAGroup Exactly. The R3 has at least 2 more stops of dynamic range over the R5 and R5C. I also think that the R5II having clog2 is a good sign because it means it's going be incredible on the video side. It does sound like it will have work around with over heating but so does the Z8 and other cameras at this price point.

      When shooting raw, it will be the same…the advantage of the r5mkii is that you have clog2 in mp4 (r5c is limited to clog3), you will have better AF (way better), stabilisation (if you need it), 4k raw without crop, no need to v-mount batteries (batteriy grip with fan is better because it’s weather sealed etc)

    The R5CmkII should just use the C400 sensor with its 3 base ISOs in the smallest form factor possible. Pair the FX6 killer with a FX3 killer. Would kinda leave the C70 in a weird spot but it's what the people want.

      Never going to happen, the R5CII if it is released will use the R5II's sensor and if a C90 is released it would use the C400's sensor in a smaller form factor just like the R5C used the R5's sensor and the C70 used the C300's sensor.
