We all start somewhere - so practice makes perfect and I certainly don't count myself as a pro. Shooting the right footage also helps a lot with the final look - so getting your exposure and lighting right goes a long way.
Thx But im trying for years now .. Like really trying . My latest Video was shot on the Action 4 and Pocket 3. Always trying to get this look but never getting close in post.@@EdProsser
The footage is really impressive. I've been gorging on video/photo content, and this is one of my favorites. From a practical standpoint, in terms of cost and simplicity... it is my favorite.
love your lut - I purchased and am taking the leap into using DLOG M - Never really thought about the OP3 being a cinematic looking camera, but now that I see this video, I'm going to try to make some vides that are more cinematic with the OP3. They highlights have always been an issue for me, thanks for the tips
It's totally possible! It just takes a bit of time to get to know its limits and how to expose it - it's actually been a super fun process trying to squeeze "cinematic" images out of this little thing - and it's the main reason I decided to release the LUT as I hope lots of people can put the camera to its full potential. Thanks so much for purchasing it.
Thanks man! Had no idea if it would work but thankfully it does! It gives people a similar level of customisation as working with the powergrade in Resolve. Need to test it now on the new Osmo Action 5 Pro footage.
Thanks man, it's actually really fun trying to squeeze a nice image out of a sensor with limited range - I really love what you can do with this little thing! It's the perfect balance between size and image quality.
@@EdProsser The fact it has a LOG profile and a built-in gimbal is awesome. I assume it also has 8-bit options for those who are starting and want to use the free version of resolve? I'm working on a video for the S9 and why its sick for (metal) musicians but eventually wanna do a "top 5 starter cameras for musicians" kinda thing. This looks like a great contender for sure. Especially seeing what you can pull out of it with your LUTs. Great work as always, Ed!
Oh it totally depends on light quality and what you're shooting - 64 is pretty good - but if you're outside usually setting an ISO range and having a single ND works well for a few hours so longs as light quality is fairly consistent. If you're shooting indoors and outdoors a lot - or in sun / shade (cloudy day) - you may find yourself swapping then on or off. Finger prints on the lens just give you some natural lens diffusion!
i do get the color grading but these days filters available in capcut is a big-time saver. I'm using this creator combo and shot some stunning video in NYC. and now going to use the filters. what do you have to say on that
I don't think they'll ever give you the same control or flexibility of a proper grading workflow and it'll probably show in the end result. But it depends on what you want! Just do you!
I've mixed it in with v-log footage yes. It works best when they're sufficiently different style soft shots. Not like side by side shots because the sensor size and sharpness of the footage will differ a lot between cams. But the Osmo works great for wide establishing shots, externals / follow shots etc. I probably wouldn't use it as a second angle on an interview
@@EdProsser Good to know. I'm going to Italy next month and I'll be using the Osmo as my vlog camera while I shoot everything else on my A7iv. I wanted something smaller that I versus my mirrorless camera.
Amazing and what you setting whe you use ND I buy everything but don’t know how to do it One more thing if I buy your luts I have to do color grading on it or just one click thank you
It's up to you, ideally with all LUTs you will do some correction. It'll always depend on the quality and exposure of your footage. However the LUTs are designed to be drag and drop if you want to use them like that. There is the main base Palermo LUT which will give you a good look on its own - and then I've also included a collection of LUTs which all offer different looks from a single LUT.
@@EdProsser so in the video is from the DJI osmo pocket 3 footage how about I buy your Luts and you just tell me your camera settings is that ok 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have tried it with the LUMIX S5iix, if I remove the LUT and do a CST vlog-rec.709 it close but it needs some camera specific tweaks. My plan is to roll this out to vlog and slog soon with specific tweaks for those colour spaces to get them looking similar.
@@EdProsser And I’m here for it. Will keep my eyes peeled for those. With time I can probably color match them myself, but my knowledge and skill with color grading/power grades is just slightly above a beginner, so better leave it to you Ed!
@@EdProsser thnx. A friend of mine actually lives in one of the buildings on the left so i recognised it straight away. It is indeed a very lovely place
Not necessarily - you can stick the camera in auto exposure still or drop your ISO. It's only really when you want to lock your shutter speed and changing ISO doesn't eliminate enough light
Good episode. However, i reckon your videos are very dark and i cudnt appreciate lots of details in those dark areas. Just my opinion. Good luck and keep up the good work!
thanks for the video, how is it for pictures, I want to take cinematic quality photos such as portraits of friends or myself without a bulky camera, i like the form factor of pocket 3 but nobody's shown examples of portraits from this camera, please let me know your thoughts? is it just as good to take a freeze frame from a video and use that as a picture for social media?
d-log is just basically a flat picture profile that makes it easier to add your own colour / look, which ever software you choose. You can of course just record in the standard picture profile and just take minor tweaks to colour, which I assume might be quicker if you're working in capcut!
Very dark and dull at some moments, it doesnt do the sunny shots justice. Instead of happy it feels more grimy. I see a lot of video makers tend to associate cinematic with only very dark flat scenes, but that doesn’t have to be in my opinion
Not on the camera, I think some people have a work around where they use the phone app and can overlay a secondary app that shows zebras. But you do get good at eyeballing the image after a while and knowing when it will clip.
Considering the gimbal is the main feature of this camera, it's not very smooth at all. Wobbles around like any tiny camera with no mass -- could be an iphone from how the footage shakes. And very sudden starts and stops to the moves. Very robotic.
Well yeah, it's obviously a small lightweight camera so you'll have to fight that element of it - that's the trade off between using this and a HUGE bulky camera - but you can't put that in your pocket. You can also definitely get movements from this that you can't get with a phone camera. I'm not a super experienced gimbal operator - but those who are can really make this thing move. You can also get additional accessories for increased axis of stabilisation that I'm experimenting with now which will smooth some of these issues out.
Man videos like these always show how poor i am at grading ^^

Yes it can shoot in 8-bit, you can also capture in 10-bit in normal picture profile too.

Any plans for an SLOG version of your new LUT?
I'm looking into rolling this out to other cameras, yea! It'll take a bit of time. I think I v-log and s-log will be the priority.
The Osmo Pocket 3 Wizard! Great tips dude :)

If using the auto-iso range, does it "jump" visibly (i.e. if it goes from 100-200 do you notice? Or is it a smooth transition?)

how do you add that "diffusion and highlight bloom" in post production? (davinci resolve!)
Can I use LUTs using iPad Pro?
Yeah you just need editing software like FCPX, capcut or DaVinci resolve. Fun fact: this LUT pack and powergrade were created on an iPad pro.

I have never really used it for photos - but from what I've seen it does take decent images, better than a freeze frame from a video.
