The production quality of this video is out of this world. I don't even care about the cameras anymore, I just enjoy the adventure and stunning views! Great job!
EXACTLY - i would go further and say it is somewhat "unfair" to the other guys reviewing products on their backyard or boring urban environment. This is the real deal! blew my mind.
@@HG0488I have them all. The X4 creates a really, really unique image that nothing else can really do but ultimately it requires a lot of extra workload editing the video before you can use it and the image quality is nowhere near the pocket 3 or a dedicated action camera. To me if I had NO cameras I’d start with an action camera because it’s the jack of all trades and really simple to use. Rugged, mountable but also able to vlog etc. The Pocket 3 would be next if I did a large amount of vlogging or if stabilized night shots were important to me. Finally I would get an X4 for speciality shots that I would use briefly in a video but wouldn’t be the basis of all the video.
Fantastic again. I love the Pocket 3 but I really like the Action 5 Pro's fixed focus for your environment because I want to see those spectacular backgrounds!
I just watch this just to relax after a long day work at the hospital. I am a healthcare provider and I need to see nice things to renew my mind 😂😂 thank you for this. So well done! On my channel I am a home decorating enthusiast but I had to pick one I would go with the AO5. Beautiful!!
Thank you Jake, you actually cleared my doubts on the live. I purchased action 5 as i would be trekking in the Himalayas and I don't want pocket 3 to break if i slip and fall. Action 5 will do the work for me!! Amazing video as always 🙌🏻🙌🏻
#1 Review of any product I have ever seen on RUclips - and I have seen a lot. Excellent coverage if details, clear comaprisons well labeled. Just WOW! Well done, Subscribed jsut to see how it is done the right way.
I almost always prefer the video on the OA5 simply because I want to see the background. That said, I thought both were great and would lean towards the Pocket 3 for most vlogging. Owning both helpful, but I wouldn’t like to carry both. Well done and amazing scenery that we don’t get anywhere else!
You live and work in an absolutely incredible place. I'm distracted by how beautiful the scenery is and it would be hard for either camera to do a bad job in such beautiful surroundings.
Beautiful video, thank you. I have to go with the A5. The Pocket 3 blur gets old quick and I like to see everything in focus. The colors of the Pocket 3 are more natural looking especially the skin tone but all that can be adjusted so I still like the A5 mainly because it's so durable and is suited for what I do. The older Action 4 has an excellent normal color profile that i wish the A5 had.
The pocket three is definitely an awesome little camera. I’ve used it to film the Roehl and talking head shots for so many of my RUclips videos lately.
The recordings and the test, as well as the whole video, are simply perfectly done. I enjoyed every moment. In any case, you have a new subscriber and I look forward to new videos!
Great comparison! I personally owned pocket 3 and DJI Action 1 (yes 1st gen). Since my major use case is doing family vlogs pocket 3 is always my go-to device, with still photos using iPhone 16 Pro. I only use Action cam when doing water sports so still happy with my original DJI Action. But I am so impressed how DJI has improved the Action series over the years and the low-light quality of Action 5 Pro is just so amazing.
The Action 5 is brilliant. I really prefer the look it gave on all your videos. Would definitely be my choice if I had to only choose one. Good job Jake 💪🏼👍🏼
What a pleasure to see this spectacular scenery. Thank you for this excellent comparison of these two cameras and taking us on your adventure. Each camera has its strengths. The deep focus of the Action 5 captures the scenery beautifully.
I am in China, and I just placed an order for pocket 3 in DJI store, and they said I have to wait for 1-2 weeks to get it because of too many orders of pocket 3. I am foreign trader who wanna make business vlog in wholesale market and do some interview of the factories. I think pocket 3 suits me more. Thank you for this beautiful and awesome video.
You are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place. The Action 5 is better for your environment because we want to see the immense beauty. The pocket 3 has the best image and is better suited for less desirable environments, My .02
That overhead shot from the drone of the two of you on the glacier was wild! Inside the ice kind of creeped me out a bit but visually that was stunning. I kind of like the colours coming out of the Action 5 a bit more, but the Pocket 3 definitely has it's uses. Ideal scenario would be to have both if you could afford it.
The Action 5 is brilliant. I really prefer the look it gave on all your videos. Would definitely be my choice if I had to only choose one. The way it also was able to track and it’s got a static lens is amazing. Yes not as good as the Pocket, but that has a gimbal. Very impressed with that feature. Plus the night mode is very impressive. Good job Jake 💪🏼👍🏼
Love it when Jake goes out to places we mere mortals can only dream of going to and finds a way to relay useful information while providing stunning example footage. Well done sir!! Also, glad you covered the photo capabilities. I use my Pocket 3 occasionally for stills and am always surprised by how good the images are.
I love my pocket 3, but i also enjoy the quality of the action 5. I use both but on rainy days action 5 is my go to as its waterproof and also i myself personally think low light is little bit more better than the pocket 3.
Both video cameras are for me: DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro for daytime recordings and DJI Osmo Pocket 3 for night recordings, although the Action 5 Pro has made a little more progress in low light.
This is what I am thinking about doing. I currently use a GoPro 12, but it isn't great in low light conditions. I'm just a bit worried about filming at night time in the rain (which is what I want it for)
Wow. Thanks. I've been saving money to spend on tiny cam but don't know which one to buy. Pocket 3 definitely win on its physical feature but also very sensitive. I'ma go with action 5!!
Great scenery! I think the pocket 3 does a better job on auto exposing on face while still keeping the background dynamic range under control. Also under low light, pocket 3 has better performance, which is to be expected with the bigger sensor. They are both fantastic cameras though! Thank you for doing the comparison!
Hi Jake, I got the action 5 and am loving it. I have to say this footage was just stunning. Especially when you went in the ice cave. Arcteryx needs to sponsor you! Really enjoyed your review.
Thank you so much! I’d love it if Arcteryx sponsored me as I love their stuff as you can see lol. That ice cave is just magical. The best one I’ve ever seen
Thank you so much for your hard work; the video turned out great! I’m a bit confused, though, and would really appreciate your help. I’d like to capture memories with my family and take photos of my products to upload to my Etsy store. I don’t need them to be too professional, but I’d like them to look nice. What would be the best option for me?
honestly you're phone will likely be best for that. if you want to do stuff with video and photos that doesn't require the use of your phone then the pocket 3 will give you the best results in the situations you describe.
Thanks for a useful video. I wanted a Pocket 3, but there is very limited availability where I am. I just bought an Action 5, and I'm not disappointed. In fact, I'm very impressed!
Jake man, great video this has really helped me, thanks a lot. Going to check out your next vid on hero vs action but looking like the action is really going to be useful for me!
I have Pocket 3 and for recording a vacation trip is not so good, because the small screen and the way the gimbal operates. I'd prefer at least one fixed position of the gimbal (like GoPro) and not "autonomous" operation of the gimbal. I've ordered the Action 5 Pro hoping for a better experience. Your video is excellent and very interesting. Thank you.
Nice!!!! I have a Pocket 3 and I love it. But I’m looking for a second camera that will be a nice sidekick to my Pocket 3. I’m specifically going to use it for walking and talking, vlogging, and walking tours, both outside and inside, in mixed light. Also for stills. I’m also going to do mall walking tours. Not too much action (respect, but not my thing) but I want a backup to my pocket 3 that’s a bit more rugged, just throw in my backpack and document life and vlog. Do you recommend the Action 5 as a sidekick to the Pocket 3? I do have a GoPro 12, which is fun for sunny days but at night it’s awful. I’m hoping the action 5 is a decent low light camera and it really seems like it is! Great review!
Great show for someone making a decision on a small 4k capable camera. I have a Pocket 1, and love it. Just had DJI re-batt it. I just got an Action 4 and plan to get a five when available in my area. U mainly film with large sensor cameras, but do really like these small cameras for their unique capabilities. Cheers.
Depends on the use case scenario, i have both, for mountain biking, hiking, snorkeling of course the a5p, but for vlogging or low light I really like the pocket3
Hi Jake. Amazing video. I have two young kids (6 and 3) and my family travels quite a lot. If I have to pick one between them, which would you recommend? Thanks.
@@JakeSloan I would love to see your review and opinion on the insta ace pro 2 too. I cannot decide between Osomo Action 5 Pro and Insta ace pro 2. Both seems great.
Man, thanks so much. I gotta say, your comparison makes the Action 5 more appealing. The image is fantastic. The pocket's dof isn't a strong enough consideration, esp with its limited versatility & quirks. That's what my sony or even iphone is for.
Action 5 video quality is way better then the Pocket 3. Sharper, better colors and video looks more natural. I need to dump my GoPros lol. The stabilization on the Action 5 is so good that you don’t even need a gimbal. Great comparison video from AK!
As a traveller and motorcycle tourer in all weathers it’s the Action for me, I’d break the gimbal in a week, as I did on the original Pocket. Still rocking the Action 3 and 4, about to order the 5. Even the original Action is still useable, I know because I’ve still got one🤣👍. PS. Great production and landscape, very different from a very wet northern England.
I have them both as part of my work kit, along with Sony mirrorless cameras. These are great for b-roll or putting them somewhere I wouldn't want to put my full sized mirrorless cameras (like right next to roads or in small spots).
Great channel. Thank you. Which one suits more for making pov videos while walking with the camera attached to my backpack in swedish forest wilderness?
How is the DJI wide angle adaptor for the pocket 3? Can you still shutdown the guimbal and store the camera in its case with the wide angle adaptor on? Thanks for your awesome review!
I rarely vlog with these cameras, so for me it's the Pocket 3, because of superior image quality. But don't get me wrong, the image quality of the Action 5 is good also, especially if filming in D-LOG M or HLG color profiles. Great comparison Jake, there both great cameras. And I would say get both if it's in your budget, some situations call for a more rugged action camera.
really good video! the question i have that i haven't seen an answer for is, what is the focal lengths of the action 5 pro cameras!? i know the pocket 3 is 20mm.
Very nice comparation. Thank you. Yes, the focus blur is on Pocket 3 much more visible. But if you make video of nature you do not need all the time to do selfie 🙂 I think the sensor is important and of course use of the camera. What you need it for.
Hi Jake, thanks for your great test. There is a big difference in image quality between the two cameras. Pocket 3 has amazing image quality. Very natural threedimensional look. No degradation of images quality because there is no digital stabilization. No loss in sharpness, no loss in colour quality and also not a processed digital look. It is pur image quality from that great lens and the sensor with a good amount of natural image processing. It is the same with the drone footage, which is also brillant. The Action 5 pro footage looses lots of quality (detail, sharpness, colour, contrast) because of digital image stabilzation. It is more processed because of that digital image stabilization and trying to reprocess sharpening/details. Because of that processing the image looks more flat, digital and a bit overprocessed as with all other digital stabilized devices. Dynamic range is great but it does not look natural at all. But regarding digital image stabilzation and its limits the image quality is still better than GoPro and lots of (maybe all) smartphones.
I’m not sure if I missed it but the one thing worth pointing out is the new Action 5 Pro “normal” color modes (not D-Log M) have a pretty strong HDR look to skies, skin tones, and even show some haloing around objects. I find it a fairly significant step back from the Action 4 (much more so than the overhyped bitrate issue). Now of course if you use D-Log M and color grade that all goes away but I suspect many use the normal modes straight out of camera and in that the Pocket 3 does a much better job, at least for now until hopefully DJI does some firmware magic to the new Action 5 Pro. Of course the Pocket 3 still benefits from using D-Log M too, it’s just it’s normal mode is significantly superior to Action 5 Pro.
Oh man though, the action 7 is it. Skip the action 6! Hehehe. Jk. I learned from this video, both of these options are amazing and you may always be waiting. I am waiting since the GoPro 8 and still disappointed as they never did a real upgrade in 5 years.
@@JosefTorkelsen Go pro is no more, but Dji and Insta360 are doing better and I think next generation we will have one inch sensor and it would be a better choice
Thx for this comparison and especially the hq content. Action 5 looks suprisingly good. I guess my hiking equipment still will be Action cam and when needed additional shots with smartphone (3 lenses) Btw. quite brave till crazy to drive with a windscreen crack as huge as this 1:35

Yessssssss 😂
Great comparison & review! And amazing shots. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Pocket 3 can do 4k vertical, just hold it horizontal. Great video!
Yes but you loose some of the stabilization
Like the drones, soon it's not gonna be which brand of action camera to choose from but which model of DJI
Dear lord. You are probably right.
Hell yeah i will subscribe! Great comparison.
Thanks!
Ty for such a helpful video! Subscribed!
thank you
Really cool video man!
Thanks a ton!
Hey Jake, What about battery life on both? Which one goes longer?
the action 5 definitely has the longest battery life but quite a bit
really good video! the question i have that i haven't seen an answer for is, what is the focal lengths of the action 5 pro cameras!? i know the pocket 3 is 20mm.
it's between 11 and 18mm depending on the FOV you select
Very nice comparation. Thank you.
Yes, the focus blur is on Pocket 3 much more visible. But if you make video of nature you do not need all the time to do selfie 🙂
I think the sensor is important and of course use of the camera. What you need it for.
Very true!
Since I’m not a professional videographer, and don’t have any clue in editing color grading. Which settings are best for us beginners on the OA5 Pro?
honestly auto settings with a -0.3 exposure is just fantastic in almost all cases
Your new subscribers here ..amazing content..I will go for action 5 to start my motovlog content ❤❤
Welcome aboard and great choice
But regarding digital image stabilzation and its limits the image quality is still better than GoPro and lots of (maybe all) smartphones.
agreed!
Of course the Pocket 3 still benefits from using D-Log M too, it’s just it’s normal mode is significantly superior to Action 5 Pro.
agreed, I also find I prefer the colors out of the pocket 3 in both normal and d-log a bit more
Great comparison, I think next generation of action cameras going to be a better choice. so I'll wait
I have a feeling we will see some pretty amazing tech in the next generation
An 1 inch sensor in an action camera would be legendary.
Oh man though, the action 7 is it. Skip the action 6! Hehehe. Jk. I learned from this video, both of these options are amazing and you may always be waiting. I am waiting since the GoPro 8 and still disappointed as they never did a real upgrade in 5 years.
@@JosefTorkelsen Go pro is no more, but Dji and Insta360 are doing better and I think next generation we will have one inch sensor and it would be a better choice
youre making a very awesome video sir. how about you compare dji action 5 pro with insta360 ace pro.
Thank you and as soon as I can get an Ace Pro or Ace pro 2 I will
Thx for this comparison and especially the hq content. Action 5 looks suprisingly good. I guess my hiking equipment still will be Action cam and when needed additional shots with smartphone (3 lenses)
Btw. quite brave till crazy to drive with a windscreen crack as huge as this 1:35
LOL thanks
your video's so smooth ,what kind of video editing software do you use for this video sir ?
I use Final Cut Pro X
Really good comparison video, thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Jake, Which one would be bet for capturing cars both passing by and for driving them?
the action 5 for sure
Thanks, love both of them actually.
agreed
man. I want to go the locations when you're doing your testing lol
lol Thanks
Perfect comparison ever
Thank you!
