Same. Been using GoPros for over 10 years. Stopped upgrading after that 11. No 12 or 13 for me. Picked up the Action 5 a few weeks ago. So much better. The low light performance is off the charts. I even had the NightSite turned on by accident for a day time bike ride and the video was fine. I thought that it would be washed out but it wasn't.
Can you please help a bit more? Is DJI stabilization as good as GoPro 11? It seems DJI smooths too much some surfaces a few times? If you check at 3:00 the face is too smooth and not as in go pro and reality. Does DJI is not very sharp when showing images with too much details i.e. with trees?
I just got the action 5 and it’s great but you have to dial in the right settings to get it to maximum potential. Out of the box it’s way oversharpened and the exposure is too high. I set it to -1 for texture and NR, and EV -0.7. And at night, it’s a whole different game. Gotta crank the iso way high and set shutter to 1/100-1/8000 or it’s jittery as heck. But WAY better than the GoPro. I just posted a few short tests if you’re interested. I’m hoping for a firmware update soon to get it right in camera. Still, I HIGHLY recommend this camera. It’s great and will only get better with updates.
Lol that gopro shutting off randomly when you needed it to work is so on brand. Also who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to swap the battery shape on the 13? That pissed me off so bad. I've moved everything over to DJI cameras except for my DLSR, but for that I use a Ronin. DJI is goat.
I legit laughed out loud when I saw they updated the battery AGAIN lol. I'm all for good change, but geesh. I'm going to need to hire a hazmat company to come take away all my old GoPro batteries.
You can actually see that she had the DJI camera positioned so that is leaning on the lower button of the GP. I bet with the normal movement it eventually put enough pressure to activate the power button. The camera did what it was designed to do, shut off when the power butting was pressed.
@@papi4baby This is inaccurate. It looks like they were touching, but the button was not in contact with the other camera. Trust me it was the first thing I tested.
@@HerTwoWheels At 3:05 when you showed your setup (thanks for showing it btw, i was wondering how you were doing it) It looks like the DJI A5 corner is leaning against the GP, and it looks like its leaning into the GP power button, just an observation. Enjoy your videos, no hate from me.
GoPro shut down is a feature that's been around for as long as GOpro has existed. LOL Time to move on, forget legacy GoPro it's their 13th generation and still they couldn't get it right!!!! SMH
GoPro colors look more natural and DJI seems oversaturated and disco. Not sure why it overheats for so many people, it definitely doesn't overheat for me.
Great review. I recently bought the DJI after buying three previous version of GoPro. Although I loved my old GPs the new one does not seem to offer as much as the DJI. Its so easy to use and reliable. Not sure if I will go back to GP any time soon.
Dji is more dependable and doesn't overheat. The battery life is great. The mic feature is fantastic. But it's not a perfect camera. Neither is the gopro. Great review.
I disagree. The DJI appears to smooth the colors out with an overly active noise reduction filter, while the color from the GoPro is much more realistic. The GoPro shows the skin blemishes and better retains the details in the blacks that I need when editing and adjusting colors.
@@oferas it's why I haven't migrated to the DJI ecosystem... Their color isn't as good as GoPro.. I record in light like 95% of people and low light capability is a non factor...
Same. In my perception the GoPro looks oversharpened, but not better. I also like the colors and the overall visuals of the DJI better. In the end it won't make a difference, though. They both are great cameras and it all depends on if the videos you make with them are intersting or not.
Just got my DJI Action 5 and it beats GoPro hands down. I have used GoPro for 10+ years and hated to change but the short battery life and overheating was just too much to take. Question for anyone, I love the GoPro claw/clamp accessory like the one on Jess' bike handlebars. Is there something similar for the DJI?
Hi Jess, I like the color saturation better on the DJI. And with the other positives you mention in this video, I am considering switching from a GoPro myself. Thanks for doing the comparison!
Jess, I follow a lot of different people on RUclips, and I can say that the majority of them complain about GoPro, varied models shutting off, corrupting videos and the high cost of an unreliable product. I would be interested in finding out if there has been anyone doing long term studies on both products. Less expensive, lighter weight, added extra accessories, longer battery life and not shutting off would make my decision a whole lot easier.
I use a GoPro almost every day. Only recently have I had an issue with the Hero 10 and 11 starting to shut down. I looked into the errors and both of the memory cards were the issue. After years of use, the cards started to go bad and the shutdown errors were 'unsupported cards.' The write speed of the SanDisk SDXC slowed with age and could not keep up with the camera's write speed, causing the shutdown.
I was a long-time Gopro user (4, 6 & 8) The 4 was their last reliable camera. My personal advice is don't waste your cash on Gopro. Since investing in DJI Action cameras, making content has become so much easier. Having kit you can rely on is THE most important thing.
I use Gopro all the time. I have the 8, 11, and just got the 13 for the new Macro lens. I've never had any of the problems You tube reviewers complain about? I use them for hiking and don't see myself switching because I have too many accessories and the differences between the cameras are pretty small.
There is 2hr review of some Russian blogger you can watch with subtitles he does loads of real-time tests and comparing gopro 13, gopro 12 and DJI 5. All of them got strong and weak points but 13 was most unreliable which is crazy looking at price tag
my dji action5 pro was getting super hot after 40minutes of recording on 4k60. it didnt shut down but is was so hot I didnt trust it and shut it off myself because Im affraid I will fry the inside or whatever. on forums I read allot of this overheating issues
The ease with which DJI cameras are used for motovlogging is indescribable. I have been using DJI cameras for 2 years and I will definitely never go back to Gopro. Stay safe..
Hi from UK. You're the 3rd biker vlogger to show that the GoPro is crap. So many report it just freezing or shutting down. DJI seems the clay to go. -Ridercam channel from over here have highlighted exact same issues
The side-by-side video of both cameras clearly shows how much better the DJI is over the GoPro. Thanks for the comparison. I'm currently using an ensemble of Insta360 cameras which mysteriously shut off from time to time which means I have to do rides/videos multiple times. I might have to switch to the DJI cameras for next summer's riding season. Oi!
Mine shuts off but it’s from overheating. If you make sure it gets air movement it helps. Also the higher the resolution the more heated the battery gets. So if you are running it for short periods the higher res won’t be a problem. Problem is that everyone wants small, but small means less heat dissipation.
We moved over to DJI from gopro. Our issue was gopro wouldn’t stand by their warranty and wanted you to pay an additional $99 dollars to replace the gopro. Our issues with gopro was the doors blowing off in 9 feet of water and saltwater flooding in. We have been pretty happy with the results and I love the fact they have a multi battery charger option that charges 3 batteries at one time
This is really interesting. It seems like the DJI performs better overall. My question is: which camera captures colors more accurately? Does the DJI tend to be more saturated, or is the GoPro less accurate in color reproduction?
Linking the DJI wireless mic 2 to the Action 5 camera via Bluetooth is a huge benefit ! And you can have 2 wireless microphones connected for stereo recording. Unfortunately, you cannot do the same with the first Version of the wireless DJI Mic 1 , only the newer Mic 2 can work. So I’ll stick to my GoPro + DJI mic 1 setup.
There is a bit of an option to change the gain level on the GoPro you’re using the media mod: go to settings>mods>media mod, then select powered mic\powered mic+ if you are using a mic, or standard mic/standard mic+ if you’re just using the mod itself. I usually switch to powered mic+ when I’m off the bike and the mic is a bit further from my mouth, otherwise I use just the regular powered mic setting.
I am no vlogger, but I do film all our rides for our group to keep when we all are no longer riding to look back at. I have a Gopro 3, 10, and 12. The 12 is the worst camera I have ever owned. Takes forever to turn on shuts off all the time. It freezes while filming, and all we have is audio. I will never buy a Gopro again as they are not reliable enough for me. Thanks for your review of the DJI as I am looking into one of them now.
Yes! Same! I was SHOCKED when the gopro 13 literally shut off mid filming… the firmware was updated, battery fully charged (brand new battery) and the memory card was empty. Still just completely shut off. I couldn’t get it to turn back on until I completely removed the battery and put it back in. Unreal
Both look bad in a different way. DJI is warmer and less natural. GoPro overexposes more than DJI in some situations. Both are noisy af. When you get a camera like this for vlogging please consider using appropriate settings and an ND filter depending on the weather condition. These are small lenses and if you want natural looking yet cinematic footage you cannot just use them stock cause they'll look awful like shown in this video. Both are great cameras. For daylight the GPro will work better with ND Filters. HV + ND filter induced motion blur are outstanding in 24FPS and 1/48 SSpeed. For low light just get a DJI or AcePro2. The latter is better than DJI at night but worse in day light. For features and reliability get any but GoPro. They still got alot of work ahead of them with improving QoL. If you motovlog on daylight just get GoPro it'll work either way unless you are stopped in traffic at 35ºC. Then it'll probably overheat.
@2:05 The DJI handled your skin tones much better. This happens with me as well, especially since I have freckles. Some cameras, (especially action Cams and Cellphones) make your freckles look like they're jumping out of your face. I would like to see how the Ace Pro 2 performs on faces, specifically those with freckles.
Great video, thanks for the honest comparison! I think the GoPro audio was better, while the DJI video (and colors) was better. But was the GoPro audio so much better that it outweighed the DJI advantages? No. And yes, please make a video showing the assembly of your next motovlog helmet.
I've owned a dozen GoPro cameras over the years, since Hero 3, all have been aggravatingly undependable and often simply SHUT OFF during the most exciting life events I want to record (shark diving, humpback whale encounters, swimming with dolphins in the wild, aircraft piloting, etc) -- precious moments that were carefully planned to record -- gone forever. I will never purchase another GoPro. I've been trying every other brand that exists. Thank you for the fair comparison review. I ordered two DJI cameras today.
Best comparison vid I’ve seen so far of these two cameras. Your real life perspective & honest comments have been the game changer for me. Its time to make the switch. I definitely would like to see a new setup video for your helmet 😁😁 keep on keeping it real.
Looks like the DJI doesn't have the proper white balance setting. Some of the indoor images are better with the DJI, outdoor images are better with the GoPro, when it works.
I prefer the DJI in your comparison. P.S. I’ve preferred your DJI version since you first started using the DJI posting comparisons a while back. The audio is good for me.
Hi. Thank you for the video. Great video. I currently have the DJI Action4. After many hours of watching youtube videos like this one and reading many many reviews between Dji and GoPro. I decided on the DJI. Thanks to videos like this reviewing and telling it how it is between the 2, in this case DJI Action 5 and GoPro 13. It truly helps peope decide and make their choice of camera. For me I think it will still be the DJI if I purchase the newer acrion camera. GoPro are seriously falling nehinf in the market of action cameras. Mainly due to the lack of reliability for GoPro. DJI all the way for me.
I honestly liked what I saw and heard from the DJI better than the GoPro except for the talking head blog section when you were sitting in front of the closed store. There the color and definition there was slightly better from the GoPro. In the other settings, the DJI seemed to be better, both in color and definition. The quicker on time is a bonus as well. With that being said, add in the better water resistance, the lighter weight, the standard magnetic connector, and the $50 better price tag, the DJI is a much better option IMHO.
DJI all day! Great comparison video for all of us recording out here. I like that you did riding, vlog, and B-roll examples. I would love to see that video on your helmet setup in the future, too.
For what it's worth, which may be almost nothing (ha), I just recently sold both of my GoPros as I've had enough of them. I tried the Ace Pro but landed on the Action 4. I purchased the Action 5 and sent it back within a week as I did not like the image quality and that they had eliminated the option of leaving the screen on all the time while recording (important to my workflow). I know they may fix some of this stuff on firmware update, but I'm happy with the Action 4 overall.
I have been using Gopros for around 10 years now. I am finally ready to make the switch to Dji. The Action 5 pro video actually looks better than the Gopro, but the audio of the Gopro is better. I am planning on using it with the wireless 2 mics, so hoping for better audio. Btw, the Gopro does have a sort of "gain" control. It's the standard mic, standard mic+, or powered mic, powered mic+. Not as much control, but it's something. Also, I added the Dji magnetic mount to my Hero 10 black, and it's tight but it does fit in the media mod. Maybe it's the brand. Anyway, great review. Ride safe.
I didn't think that the difference in image quality was significant enough to say one or the other, plus any colour differences can be fixed with video editing, but I did think the sound was better for the DJI. Thanks, I'd really appreciate a video about both helmet and microphone mounting for the DJI.
I'm currently using the setup with the Dji mic 2 in my helmet wirelessly to moto vlog, true using it with an Action 4 but that's irrelevant to my point. The only issue I have with this setup is that once you turn the camera on it takes 10-20 seconds for the mic to connect. One way around it on long trips that I found was to leave the camera and mic on, set the camera auto shutoff to 30 minutes and press record when I need to. Because of the DJI battery life I can get almost 2 hours of run time and about 30 minutes of actual filming and have the camera always ready to go, plus in 2 hours I stop for either fuel or a smoke so I can swap batteries on the camera. It has it's downsides this method but I love the ability to not worry once I hit rain and keep on vlogging knowing my camera will make it through the rain. Really curious to see if you switch to the Action 5 Pro for your moto vlogs :D
The action5pro connects way quicker to the now 2 mic2's .. been using it for a few days on my bicycle rides and its like 2 or 3 seconds. Also you can record 3 mics if you want since the internal mic of the action5pro can be saved to a sepr. wav file. Been playing with 2 mic2's on the side of my head to get stereo sounds ... Its progress :)
I am using it myself right now with the action 5 and mic 2… I leave the mic on and then when I want to record I just hit the power button and less than 5 seconds mic is connected to camera and u can easily check with the front screen that the mic is on with audio levels.. I have it at -12 and it’s amazing how much easier my setup and how good the quality is
I've owned 3 different generations of GoPros over 10 years. They've barely improved and with each new generation there are new software bugs, new overheating issues etc. As far as I'm concerned, its a distant 2nd behind DJI in the action cam market.
I have the osmo action 4 and its been a game-changer! I don't even need to think about it. I use it with the DJI mic 1, so I need to attach the receiver. Its still super light, but not waterproof. I keep one mic in my helmet and the other in my backpack to pick up the pipes. I'm super happy with it. I used the GoPro as a secondary camera on a day trip. It died multiple times. I'm done with it.
the question is.. with out going with the side by side com parison. you have to ask yourself, which camera captures the best video/photo that looks like if you were looking at it with the naked eye??? right?
Great comparison, Jess! My new setup is completely DJI. I've been really happy with their quality and battery life. The other thing which is kind of silly, but matters to me is how easy it is to press down on the record button. As you know, when the camera is on a helmet mount, it's kind of nice to not have to press down so hard to start recording. Again, great video and great comparison, I laughed really hard with the GoPro turned off, because that's happened to me before, too. 😂😅
You can plug your lavalliere mic straight into the DJI mic 2 mic via the jack where the “dead cat” pushes into so you can have wireless audio without changing the mic/wiring in your helmet and the Action camera doesn’t lose its waterproofing as it’s working wirelessly
I wonder why the Gopro shuts off. Has firmware been up to date? Whoch resolution did you use? Was it 5.3k or 4k? Or is yours faulty? I know some had faulty cameras with previous versions. I don't think I will get Hero 13 due to the horrible low light performance.
@HerTwoWheels That sucks. was it in 60 or 120 FPS? My 7 Black has been problem free. Only froze once, not sure why. But I think it might been cus I had it connected to buggy app, not sure long a go. Never had any issues. Looks like I did not upload the issue, I think I recored it on my phone. Maybe I have ot somewhere on back up drives. But won't bother digging that up. But it was problem free since anyway.
@@HerTwoWheels was it 120fps or 60fps? I think yours is faulty, or Hero 13 is flawed. But I've not heard of these issues with the 13 yet, but have with 11 or 12 I think it was.
I haven't had to use a media mount for a GoPro since the 7 Silver. they have all had a mounting tab since then. Why are you using one? That's a lot of added weight.
@@HerTwoWheels Now that you say that, the only mic that worked for me was the Turtle Beach gaming mic. so that's what I've been using since the beginning. I think they're actually made by Limvoo, but sold under Turtle Island
@Her Two Wheels. I don't use a media mod, just a pass through door, 3.5 to c adapter, and a lav mic. I have the mod, but i only use it with the handle/tripod, never on my helmet. I have no weight issues, go pro hero 11. I am concidering a 360 for a second camera. Great video!
@HerTwoWheels you have to have the 3.5 to c adapter, from go pro, or it don't work. I have an old video showing my set up, but that's also a video idea, get one, and a pass through door, and check it out.... it won't solve the every 3 to 6 months Quick app acting screwed, but the set up works well.
I’ve just bought the DJI Action 5 which is my first time venturing away from GoPro and I agree with everything you said! I rode from Fort Lauderdale to Key West and I feel like the GoPro is always pulling my head downward! Many times I have to go back and make U-turns to capture shots. I want because the GoPro took too long to start up.Wile testing the DJI, I felt the footage was a little over exposed in right out the box in 4K/60FPS in direct sun but great on capturing night life on the highway. But I am sticking with DJI! Been loving your content since I began riding.
I recently switched to DJI and use the bluetooth mic. The weight was one of the main issues, and having a waterproof system is a must. With that said, I have to say, the GoPro does look slightly better, and the sound is pretty good too,
All my videos in the past year have been done on Action 3, settings 2.7k, 30fps, horizon steady. It's been brilliant! I think after watching your video, my next upgrade will be the Action 5, and the DJI Mic2, due to the blue tooth feature. Choosing DJI looks like a no brainer decision to me. Great video thanks!
Can you run the Osmo with usb power instead of just battery? I like to catch longer stretches and edit later vs reaching up to power on and power off a camera.
Yes you can. I have it hooked up to a DIN-to-USB adapter on my 2019 GS. Runs all day if it needs to. I also use the external mic adapter with a Lav mic clipped into a pocket on the back of my jacket to keep out wind noise. Works very well.
I can't stand dji and their glacial speed of updating apps to work with new operating systems. I waited months for the DJI fly app to work on my phone to be able to fly my drone.
Hi Jess / her two wheels you have done comparisons on both of these camera manufacturers do you feel like at this point you can make a clear choice between the action 5 and the new GoPro and which one you prefer over the other?
Less expensive, lighter weight, added extra accessories, longer battery life and not shutting off, better video quality in low light environment are the features that put DJI on top of the world. Right on! DJI is the winner. Amen!
Details and texture on GoPro are on another level. But the reliability is the main issue... I think Dji A5P is a very good action camera, but not as great as they claim
Well, the DJI seems to be the clear winner. If you do, for whatever reason, use the GoPro on your helmet, you mind try to rig up some sort of counter balancing system on the back of the helmet. The GoPro is OK for b roll or "stunt camera" duty.
I have been thinking about getting a DJI since you first reviewed it a while ago. Just seems so much more stable. I do like it starts up and records almost immediately. I really could have used a camera on my ride down to Chattanooga on Hwy 41. It was gorgeous and will be even better in a couple of weeks when the leaves start changing.
Returned the DJI Action 5. Really bad image quality. They may fix the bitrate later, but I’m not waiting around for it. I’ll stick to my Pocket 3 for now.
The DJI is doing something bizarre with the sky. It's almost like it's compressing the color and forcing in blue. Strange fringing around trees. It looks un natural. Agree with your points. Perhaps there are settings in the DJI camera. The Go-Pro was crazy over sharpened. Interesting comparison! Great content as always!
Thanks for doing this comparison. I'm close to the same use case, although audio for me is more about capturing exhaust notes and less about me talking. 2:52 is priceless because it captures my main complaint about GoPro -- simply not reliable. I've been in the GoPro ecosystem for almost 10 years and stopped upgrading after the Hero 9 because the "improvements" seemed to be more marketing related and less about fixing known performance issues. Just waiting to see what the Insta360 Ace 2 Pro has to offer in comparison to the DJO Osmo Action 5. I am so done with GoPro. Would be curious to get your take on doing another comparison between the DJI Action 5 and Ace 2 pro once that is released. I really don't need or care to see anything more about GoPro.
I’m ok with the image and audio in both of them but past experience with go pro makes me lean towards the DJI and the wireless audio option was the cherry on top for my set up this winter
Tip for your new helmet build - mount the camera on top or on the side of your helmet, not hanging off the front. Mechanical leverage is making it feel heavier hanging off the front/bottom - if you mount it on top you won’t even know it’s there
I've used Hero 5,7,8,9,10,11,12 and Action 3,4,5. When I did a video about how bad GoPro Hero 10 overheats, it was my most hated one from all the fanboi saying I'm not using it right... but now they can't argue that DJI Action cameras don't overheat!
So if you use the go pro on your helmet again or even the DJI you could try attaching Velcro on the back of your helmet and get a counter weight pack and add as many counter weights in the pack to whatever is most comfy. Operators use them when they have their night vision googles attached to their tactical helmet to reduce neck strain from the added weight up front. I don’t know if you’d be interested in trying that out on an old helmet or something but I figured it’s worth mentioning.
Thanks for comparison. I have DJI drone and mic set. I also have insta 360. The DJI have impressed me with the technology and I have learned to trust the brand. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about GoPro for the price.
"the gopro just shut off.. so reliable.." hahahaah.. this made my day. because gopro just keeps ripping off customers with the same problem through the years. it's already the 13th gopro ang still the same issue. SO RELIABLE! how can you call this a PRO if it's not reliable? hahahah..
So I’ve owned the GoPro 9,10,11, and now 13. Only on the 10 I had random shutdowns but that was fixed with a software update. Also I use the GP13 with the media mod with the quick connect mount without a problem. There’s so much miss information out there when it’s mostly user error. Random shutdowns happen mostly due to the wrong SD card or a well used SD card that needs replacement. The only valid point you make on the GP13 is its heavy weight with the media mod. The DJI AP is a great camera tho.
Good no-nonsense comparison. I just switched from gopro to DJI because I lost some important footage due to some weird gopro bug. It's sad to see gopro become such garbage. It was once the "reliable action camera".
If you haven't already, you may wish to check out John (cycle Fanatic) and his friend Sandy (Holy Shift). They did a coast to coast to coast ride across the USA. John had one brand of modular helmet and Sandy another, they switched back and forth during their trip. Sandy ended up getting the same helmet as John's when they got back.
The GoPro 13 sounded better with the audio test. 13 also had a better picture when you were sitting down (although it shut off). The DJI had a better picture from the road. And during the audio test, the video was better from the DJI. You emphasized the weight difference when mounted to your helmet, what are the actual weights in the setup you had them in?
I noticed the close ups of you are much more clear on the GoPro. I also think the overall clarity on the GoPro is cleaner. The sound is so very close it doesn't make enough difference. I probably would use the DJI for the same reasons you like it. I think it's a real shame that GoPro still has an issue of shutting off with no warning.
Great Video! Thanks for creating and sharing your testing with both cameras! I haven't switched up from GoPro Back 8 but, it's got a lot of miles on it. The buttons became so worn that one day it drizzled and water got into the button area and my camera was toast for a few weeks but, after trying different things I got it to fire up and work again. It ended up putting a lanyard over the camera and it feel like it's new again. The quick capture is pretty important. I was riding my bicycle and saw a bobcat and I hit the button thinking I had plenty of time and it took too long and the bobcat started to run and I only captured a very short video of it so, if DJI Action 5 is faster at that then that's awesome! With the GoPros, I always see people complain that they heat up and shut off even when the person using it was snowboarding. My GoPro Black 8 never overheats while I am riding my bike even in 100 degree weather but, it sure does when it's sitting still inside a place or on a vehicles windows. I am glad you were showing that the magnetic clip had a latch on it to lock on. I was worried if I bought an Action 5 that it wouldn't pop off of my handlebars and I wouldn't notice it was gone until I was miles away. Thanks for showing us that! I think my next camera will be a DJI Action 5 Pro.
Great video. I watched a previous comparison video between go pro 13 and the dji and it made me reconsider the GoPro but now after seeing this the GoPro IMO is better quality through. Les grainy( the dji is better close range maybe but it pixels out the background) also GoPros has a wider lens with a more natural feel
GoPro is not great out of the box settings. Where it shines and is better than the DJI is using Protune and setting the EV to -0.5, ISO 100-400, sharpness Medium . Also your GoPro turned off because of the voice commands when you said GoPro lol 😂 …the new GoPro 13 also has the quick attachment but sold separately. To be honest most people don’t set up their GoPro correctly. I have some vids on my channel captured with the 11 and 12 using the Qucik App. I get very good results and prefer the image quality over the action 5
@@vnvtraining7203 Yep. That's what I meant. We're on the same page. The only thing I wish the GP13 did was start up faster like the DJI. That's pretty cool. I think the GP13 has better video - at least to my eyes, especially when not VLOGing.
I tried so many times to really like GoPro. I currently own 4 of their cameras, purchasing each one in the hopes that it would be better then the previous models. I constantly have had the random power down issues, my last one, the Hero 8 Black kept turning off and on during a once in a life time white water rafting trip. I will NEVER buy another GoPro product EVER!! I also have the Osmo Action and love it! Looking to upgrade to a Action 5 Pro, thanks for the great review!
I just bought the DJI Action 5 and it's been so much better already than my GoPro 11 Hero. It's so much better at night it's crazy.
I am in the same boat…trying to compare this against a Hero 11.
Did the same thing !! Incomparable
Does DJI is not very sharp when showing images with too much details i.e. with trees?
Even the go pro 13 is so terrible at night and low light!
Why would you set shutter to 1/100 to 1/8000 at night? Why not to keep it at 1/48 ? Just curious....
@ the slower the speed the more the jitter.
LOL
Time to move on, forget legacy GoPro it's their 13th generation and still they couldn't get it right!!!! SMH
You can definitely rely on GoPro to shutdown when you least expect it. It's a bonus feature that they don't mention in the User's Manual.
Been lucky enough to experience it on EVERY generation since the 7. 🤦♀️
I returned my gopro the same day mine died from direct sunlight / overheating.
Still rocking my osmo action 3 flawlessly.
I know it’s subjective but I prefer the video colours through the DJI. It just looks better with default settings .
I disagree. The DJI appears to smooth the colors out with an overly active noise reduction filter, while the color from the GoPro is much more realistic. The GoPro shows the skin blemishes and better retains the details in the blacks that I need when editing and adjusting colors.
@@oferas strangely I agree with you on the realism and still prefer the DJI. Maybe I would want to look my best on camera 😂
8:56 I assume her jacket is black, not pink or purple ...
GoPro is a thing of the past for me long time ago hands down to dji Osmo action 4 and now 5 pro also use my Insta 360 One Rs also better than gopro
Does the Action 5 weigh less than the Osmo Action?
Hi Jess, I like the color saturation better on the DJI. And with the other positives you mention in this video, I am considering switching from a GoPro myself. Thanks for doing the comparison!
We just upgraded to DJI and Mic 2. Great upgrade!
@@oferasI gave up on SanDisk also. Samsung Pro 512gb working great at 175 Mbps in 5.3k/60
We have been pretty happy with the results and I love the fact they have a multi battery charger option that charges 3 batteries at one time
Nice. What software u use for simple editing for the dji. I currently use the phone to record then use cap capcut phone app
Premiere pro
This is really interesting. It seems like the DJI performs better overall. My question is: which camera captures colors more accurately? Does the DJI tend to be more saturated, or is the GoPro less accurate in color reproduction?
I think the gopro gets a more accurate color, but I personally enjoy the hues of the action 5 pro. Especially in low light!
Unreal
My GoPro 10 just bricked completely today. Will not start again. I’ll never buy their junk again.
That happened to my 8. One day just decided not to wake up 😂
I need to know where you got that mount on your handle bars?
How are you stopping the hand noise using the double selfie stick
Glad it was helpful!
What LAV are you using? Sounds good!
I think I have it linked in my Amazon store in the description. I bought it years ago. Can’t remember the brand. But it’s always been good to me!
@@HerTwoWheels Thanks!
Looks like the DJI doesn't have the proper white balance setting. Some of the indoor images are better with the DJI, outdoor images are better with the GoPro, when it works.
Both cameras were straight out of box and settings were “auto”.
They both have the ability to record in Log and both have custom setting options.
Since the beginning, the audio on the DJI Osmo Action has been great.
Especially the “in camera” audio. Just vlogging. It has always sounded good!
Why did you send the Action 5 back, specifically?
@@nobis64 I was about as specific as I could be in my comment. I refer you back to it.
Interesting, did they ever add this feature? Imo such feature mus have a option to turn it on and off depending on needs. Absurd it's not.
The Insta 360 Ace Pro 2 is definitely a contender in this market
Ride safe.
Audio is much better in the GoPro in your vid, otherwise a very close call....
I didn't think that the difference in image quality was significant enough to say one or the other, plus any colour differences can be fixed with video editing, but I did think the sound was better for the DJI. Thanks, I'd really appreciate a video about both helmet and microphone mounting for the DJI.
Definitely want to see how the wireless mic is mounted with and without microphone attached into the wireless dji microphone

First of your videos I've seen. Nice! Interesting, authentic, useful, and informative. Thank you for creating!
I'm done with it.
but which is better in low light/night riding?
DJI by MILES... I legit don't even turn my gopro on once the sun sets.
the question is.. with out going with the side by side com parison. you have to ask yourself, which camera captures the best video/photo that looks like if you were looking at it with the naked eye???
Yes! The easy button and the quick release is my favorite part for sure!
You can plug your lavalliere mic straight into the DJI mic 2 mic via the jack where the “dead cat” pushes into so you can have wireless audio without changing the mic/wiring in your helmet and the Action camera doesn’t lose its waterproofing as it’s working wirelessly
Try using blutooth mic setup on the gopro. uses the mic you are already using for your helmet coms.
I wonder why the Gopro shuts off. Has firmware been up to date? Whoch resolution did you use? Was it 5.3k or 4k? Or is yours faulty? I know some had faulty cameras with previous versions.
I don't think I will get Hero 13 due to the horrible low light performance.
Firmware was up to date. 4k. I have been having this mysterious shut off problem with gopro since the Hero 7… the Hero 9 and 10’s were the worst.
It’s the only way I could get my mics to work. All the other adapters didn’t work.
For some reason, after using the gopro 8, my GoPros would ONLY record with the media mod. 😞
Love your POV of both cameras. And yes, please make a vid of your new set up!!
Can you run the Osmo with usb power instead of just battery? I like to catch longer stretches and edit later vs reaching up to power on and power off a camera.
I do believe so. But not 100% sure
Yes you can. I have it hooked up to a DIN-to-USB adapter on my 2019 GS. Runs all day if it needs to. I also use the external mic adapter with a Lav mic clipped into a pocket on the back of my jacket to keep out wind noise. Works very well.
@@jschoofs Thank you
I can't stand dji and their glacial speed of updating apps to work with new operating systems. I waited months for the DJI fly app to work on my phone to be able to fly my drone.
Hi Jess / her two wheels you have done comparisons on both of these camera manufacturers do you feel like at this point you can make a clear choice between the action 5 and the new GoPro and which one you prefer over the other?
I’m personally moving forward with the Action 5 pro 100%
@@HerTwoWheels I agree with you 100% that is going to be my choice going forward as well
Bravo can you please tell me which one is good for me?
DJI of course
Less expensive, lighter weight, added extra accessories, longer battery life and not shutting off, better video quality in low light environment are the features that put DJI on top of the world. Right on! DJI is the winner. Amen!
DJI looks more vibrant the GoPro has more detail.
Go Pro looks harsh in the vlog video but the DJI looks like a filter.
DJI Action 5 for the win.
Gopro still the best of all action cameras 😊
Details and texture on GoPro are on another level. But the reliability is the main issue... I think Dji A5P is a very good action camera, but not as great as they claim
Well, the DJI seems to be the clear winner. If you do, for whatever reason, use the GoPro on your helmet, you mind try to rig up some sort of counter balancing system on the back of the helmet.
The GoPro is OK for b roll or "stunt camera" duty.
Did she made a video on how she use the DJI Mic in the helmet?
I have been thinking about getting a DJI since you first reviewed it a while ago. Just seems so much more stable. I do like it starts up and records almost immediately. I really could have used a camera on my ride down to Chattanooga on Hwy 41. It was gorgeous and will be even better in a couple of weeks when the leaves start changing.
You didn't render the final video in 60p.
I don't think it's dji it's color grading every kid just must use. or even RUclips compression
Which video editing software do you use, Jess? Also, where do you create your thumbnails.
I edit my videos in Adobe Premiere Pro and make my Thumbnails in Adobe Photoshop.
My original Dji Cam froze up and hasn’t worked since. It’s a brick.
I’m ok with the image and audio in both of them but past experience with go pro makes me lean towards the DJI and the wireless audio option was the cherry on top for my set up this winter
Tip for your new helmet build - mount the camera on top or on the side of your helmet, not hanging off the front. Mechanical leverage is making it feel heavier hanging off the front/bottom - if you mount it on top you won’t even know it’s there
I love your channel. What camera do you use on your handlebars?
It would be nice to hear the dji wireless mic in the helmet vs the other two scenarios.
SO RELIABLE! how can you call this a PRO if it's not reliable? hahahah..
Yes please, a helmet setup would be a great video to watch.😊
Noted!
Have you tried the new insta 360 pro ? I have one and I pre fed it over GoPro hands down >
The GoPro 13 sounded better with the audio test.
Thank you an im being good check out the new Insta 360 Ace pro 2 camera would luv to hear your opinion on this one cheers .
And you can use wireless Mics with the GP13 so you don't need the media mod...so a lighter camera when using the helmet mount like she did.
@@thebikeraceryou can also attach Bluetooth in ear headphones with the the GoPro 13

@@vnvtraining7203 Yep. That's what I meant. We're on the same page. The only thing I wish the GP13 did was start up faster like the DJI. That's pretty cool. I think the GP13 has better video - at least to my eyes, especially when not VLOGing.
What did she say to make the GoPro shut off? It wasn't obvious to me.
