    I’ve got a code p0404 and p0405 p0299 first two are for egr and the third one is for underboost. Figured the egr would be the main issue do you know of any of those codes point to a bad egr or just check the power to it and give it a good cleaning. It’s a 2005 2500.

      The P0405 indicates an electrical issue either in the wiring or the valve itself. The llys have wiring harness problems so i would do a thorough inspection of the wiring before replacing the valve.

    Hey would you mind answering some Q's? Friend took his 2004 66 2500 HD to get a diagnostic because the truck has a very ugly pulsing idle so they told him that the fuel pressure regulator was bad and needed to be replaced. Today I was tasked to do this job, however, I noticed (forgive me I dont know the parts too well) the "EGR valve cover" top portion as well as the EGR valve itself, was completely clogged with oil residue. also the aluminum tube end portion of that cover had diesel puddling on the inner walls.... Can the EGRvalve and top cover be cleaned and replaced? Also when removing said "EGR valve cover" the aluminum gaskets had a bit of silicone residue left behind. is silicone needed in addition to said gaskets?? please halp lol. Were just two broke dudes trying to fix stuuf.

      Also, what would cause such a dirty EGR valve and cover? Why so much gunk?

      The fuel pressure regulator will cause surging at idle , it’s a common problem on the early Duramax’s. You can clean the egr valve out with some brake clean and a screw driver you just don’t want to get the motor wet on the end. Make sure when your done the valve is closed all the way. Some people put silicone on those gaskets, if you buy new gaskets it’s not needed just make sure the mating surface is clean.

      The egr system fills the intake system with soot. Idling the engine excessively causes the build up or driving the truck constantly short drives.

      @@drewsshoplife wow thanks. Feels good getting the feedback. I will be cleaning it sometime this week. It is a work truck so most of the time they are idling or driving short distances ha.. And his daughters use the truck which I do not encourage cuz they ruin every car they have ever had.

    If I was delete my egr on my lbz duramax I wouldn’t have to worry about swapping the value anymore?? Or do I have too. I’m losing air flow, underboost on turbo & exhaust gas recirculation?? Im new the diesel community. Point me to right direction please 🙏🏼

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  10 месяцев назад

      If you delete You shouldn't have to worry but you may have to physically remove the egr system because if the valve is stuck open if your deleted it may open up still. But be aware deleting is illegal in all 50 states.

    When changing that valve does the new one have to be calibrated or is it just plug and play?😊

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  Год назад +1

      Just plug and play, no calibration or learning procedure required

    Does a clogged up egr valve cause black smoke out of ur exhaust?

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  10 месяцев назад

      f the valve hangs up it can cause a loss of power and smoke from the exhaust.

    hey I know you,what did the cooler look like?I have 400,000 miles and it all must be dirty,I think I will come by and see you.

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  Год назад

      Your name defiantly sounds familiar , the cooler looked fine in this case. The egr system is always dirty , Most of the time the egr coolers look fine (even with higher mileage), only when there is a lack of egr flow or excessive idling also when they rupture thats when they plug up. Sounds good ill be here

    Hi Sir. Love your videos. I have 2005' Duramax LLY. Losing 1/2 gallon on coolant every 3 days. Truck runs constant 7 hours daily. 467,890 miles been perfect. Dye test and no coolant leaks anywhere. Never trys to run hot. Question is my top hose is a little hard in morning at times and coolant system seems to build pressure. Could the egr cooler create same symptoms of blown head gasket. Great content sir.

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  Год назад +1

      The Egr cooler can cause those symptoms, Before I ever condemn headgaskets I always pull the egr cooler and inspect first. I have only seen a failed egr cooler on a duramax once. Its more than likely you have blown head gasket/s unfortunately. Its a very common problem on the lly's with higher mileage. I have a customer with around 700k miles on a lb7 duramax and has the same issue with coolant consumption, I recommended to him to just keep topping the coolant off. As much as i think the duramax is a superior engine i wont do head gaskets on a truck with more than 300k.

    Wat does the valve being bad do?

    • @drewsshoplife
      @drewsshoplife  Год назад

      The Egr Valve Failing Cause Egr Related Codes, Mass Air Flow Sensor Codes And Turbocharger Boost Codes. It Can Cause Smoking And Loss Of Power. Just Depends On The Manner In Which The Valve Failed.
