  • 6.6 duramax truck went into limp mode. Turned out to be an EGR bypass valve located in the rear right hand corner. Repair procedure states cab removal or transmission removal is needed. Oh no, no, no, Not in my house. We successfully replaced the valve with no cab or trans removal. Let me know what you think about the video. Do you want more detail or do you just like watching for entertainment?

    My son and I completed this job over the weekend. Hats off to him. He was able to break all the hidden bolts free with a box wrench by hand. On his 13 year old truck. A couple of important items that might have been mentioned here but I missed. Be sure to connect the back coolant hose to the egr bypass valve BEFORE mounting it. We forgot. Which created a bit of a challenge to get it and the small clamp on. And also leave all the egr cooler vertical mounting bolts loose until threads are started on all the bolts.
    This video is by far one of the best for this job.

    The loud chime grrr I have the same issue. What part of the radio did you replace? Amp or head unit?

      So the radio ended up going out on him. He replaced the head unit and it's fixed.

    LOL Can you send Andrew to MA? We need to do a 13 codes P24C4 and P2493. Interestingly enough we're not getting the limp messages. Also getting the P11CB but that seems to be another issue not related

    I just had my 2011 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD give me the Err P2493 and P140A. the cp4 crap out on me 4 years ago 3 months after I had just bought it and it cost me $12k to fix it. Heard it’s like $2k to fix this ERG problem. I honestly don’t wanna drop that much in fixing it. Is it worth doing the work to fixing the EGR cooler bypass myself if the trucks got 235k miles on it?

      @penguinsgarage  Месяц назад +1

      This job was not to bad to do so I would say yes. this is something you can handle if you are mechanical inclined. This particular truck now has around 260k on it. Emissions have been a problem all along with this truck and the cp4 did go out 1 time on it. We went back with another cp4 instead of the cp3 but as long as no blow by on the motor I would fix it.

    Hey man, I have a permanent code P24C4. I replaced the egr cooler bypass valve yesterday bc of sensor errors and such codes. My countdown was already on prior to changing it. How did you get the countdown off? Just driving it? I don’t have a glow plug code so I guess that isn’t relevant to me. I’m gonna attempt to drive it to work tomorrow and hopefully it will have enough miles to get me back lol

      Sorry I'm just seeing this. Can be a pain to clear sometimes. Normally you run a regen on the truck then drive it.

    What is the tool name to remove the hose? How much did you spend in parts ? Thanks.

    • @penguinsgarage

      They are hose disconnect tools. And andrew bought the parts so I do not know the cost on them

    Well, I have a P24C4 code with a description of "EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Position Sensor Exceeded Learning Limit." Is the sensor pretty much the black plastic piece? And if so, is it possible to just buy a new Bypass valve, and swap out the black plastic pieces rather than replacing the whole thing? I'm not nearly as mechanically inclined as y'all, I don't have all the necessary tools, and just don't feel confident in replacing the whole thing.

    • @penguinsgarage
      @penguinsgarage  5 месяцев назад

      I do not know if you can or not, but I would not due to the mechanical side could be stuck. Also the egr cooler probubly needs to be cleaned also. If your near SD I would be happy to help you with it
