      PLEASE HELP ME!
Im a 20 year old guy just getting more into photography/videography(I shoot photos/videos both, I shoot portraits, candids for brands, etc) I currently have Canon M6 mii with a 16mm and 50mm ef and im really confused between r6mii and r8. The main thing is the extra money that i save with r8 i can invest in a lot of lens options! But if i buy r6mii im done and dusted there, so what should i do, r8 and a few lenses or get to the flagship r6mii?

@@yashkinger7047 rule of thumb is date the body but marry the lenses. High quality lenses are more important long term than the body. The L series is the flagship. Best lens probably would be a 24-70 f2.8 and then you can see what body you can afford.

I own both, with the R8 being a second body.
On the whole the R8 does great. For me the one instance when it is noticeably inferior to the R6ii is shooting sports in some halls or gyms with poor, flickering lights. For the R6ii I can usually put it in mechanical shutter and take a drop in frame rate to 12FPS (which I think is usually fine) and continue no problem. But for the R8 I need to put it into electronic first curtain, which drops it to 6FPS (too slow for me). But that might not be enough to fix the problem, so I need to turn on anti-flicker which can make the camera lag a bit between pressing the shutter and it taking the shot. Shooting sports with a lagging 6FPS isn't recommended, but it is only occasionally I hit a venue with such bad lighting.
My other minor annoyance with the R8 is that I can't customize the filenames it produces. I like to set that on all my cameras so I can tell at a glance what camera took the shot: R6iixxxx or R5Cxxxx etc, but the R8 files are all IMGxxxx and I can't change that. Bugs me more than it should.
All the other differences are non issues for me. Small body, no Ibis, no joystick or wheel, small battery. None of these are negatives for me.

I have the R8 but I'm looking at upgrading to the R6MKII because the lack of a joystick and spinwheel is driving me insane. Plus the batteries are just too small in the R8, even though it's not that difficult to switch them, it's still really annoying that they run out so quickly. I have big hands too so my entire little finger can't grip the R8 body, it's frustrating. I've come from a 7D (MK1!!) and although the R8 is small, it's driving me slightly mad.

In the past I owned a used Canon 5D Mark II, and Mark III. Both those camera's are full frame. Today I use a Canon R100 (that I bought new). I miss full frame sensor. The R100 is a crop sensor. The R100 takes great photos paired with my EF mount f2.8 70-200mm lens that I use an EF to RF adaptor. I don't like that I have to multiply 1.6 x the focal length of the lens to get the accurate focal length of the crop sensor camera. I like that I can get wider with the full frame sensor. In the future I might save up for a full frame camera but for now I am a hobby photographer, that mainly shoots flower, foliage, and sky photos.

Have both... I do architecture photography and got the R8 as a "Backup" camera. After editing mi first shoot with the R8, I immediately realized what a gem it is.... For architecture photography the R8 is by far bests value. I didn't miss the IBIS because I always use a tripod. The only downside I noticed is that the viewfinder is smaller than the R6s. Considering the price, dynamic range, colors, AF... the R8 is an awesome little camera.

  • @johannes.scharf
    @johannes.scharf 4 месяца назад

Almost a year ago I got myself the R8 with the 24-105 f4 L (which is usually the kit lens for the R6II) The only disadvantages are maybe the missing IBIS, but ok just get a tripod for long exposures or brace the camera, and for sure the smaller battery. It's not that the smaller size bothers me (although I have to switch them out quite often) but the availability for third party accessories is not as big. For instance the Tricharge, which many of you might have heard about is right now only available for the bigger LP-E6 and not the LP-E17 batteries. Also the smaller batteries have no official battery grip from Canon themselves.

Now I have two cameras with two lenses that do all I want (macro and landscape) without switching lenses ever in a travel friendly size and weight.

I am so close to buying the R8. Someone at a camera shop told me I should consider buying Sony a7iii because Canon rf lenses are expensive and it got me thinking tbh. However, I am moving to the R8 from an eos 250D , the R8 would become my main, and the 250D a backup or second camera if I need it for videos.Switching to Sony would mean switching my entire lens kit to Sony and it's just something I cannot do ( financial reasons obviously) . Also , I think, moving from an eos 250D to the R8 is a BIG improvement.

I Chose the R8. Love the image quality, however, there a several things that are missing if you are a seasoned video and/or photography shooter. If you're newbie, you will not notice these missing features. I wanted to upgrade my camera system from my 5D Mark IV's to something with 4k60, at least 2hr+ run time, & no cropped 4k. The R8 met those specs, however, I quickly noticed other things that demonstrated that the R8 is definitely not a camera for seasoned professionals. It wasn't a deal breaker for me so I purchased 2 of them because the price was so sweet ($1,050 ea. new). I'll see how long I can go before I start to need those missing features. Ultimately, I'm looking at getting one R5MII and keeping the two R8's that I purchased. For starters, there are a few missing features when connecting a monitor via HDMI. Hey, for the price, I really can't complain at all.

It’s super comfortable to hold! I have a R50 as well which was my first camera and it’s tiny in comparison that’s why I thought I would have trouble with R6ii but honestly I prefer the grip and feel of the R6ii now. The ibis was what made me choose R6ii instead of R8, I can shoot 1s shutter speed without tripod, I want to carry minimal gear. Not only that but many places with viewing platforms or crowded places won’t allow tripods.

I would have gone with the R8 if it at least uses the LPE6NH battery, the same as my R7. To use in conjunction with each other; my R7 for wildlife and birding, R8 for indoor and lowlight.

Honesty the touch and drag focus on the R8 is way more precise than the joystick on the r6. The R6 joystick is really “blocky” where you can’t precisely aim the focus where you want to and sometimes moving it diagonally gets dificult.

I think it boils down to use case scenarios to decide between them. I’m not a professional but I love my R8. You definitely need to get extra batteries if you get one. If you plan to shoot video, you need to get a gimbal.

The R6 II was the most underrated camera of the last couple years. It's the best camera in it's class (until probably the z6III just finally came out, though that has worse AF) and probably the best Canon camera to date outside of the R3. The R8 gets way more in the way of press time and reviews which is odd because it is a much lesser camera.
It didn't even get proper reviews by most Canon ambassadors (even Pete Mck) and was completely ignored by DXOmark who DID put out sensor tests for the R8 but NOT the R6 II... even IF they are the same sensor that is odd because DXO puts out reviews for ALL cameras that share same sensors from the Sony and Nikon lineups (and we've been told things like "it has the same sensor" before with the 5DIV and R yet those cams have different IQ as the 5D was better (I've owned both)).

I own the Canon R8 and it is good. But after a distance, the AF does not work. Maybe it is the same in R6ii but previously I owned R10 and it has quite more AF working distance. For studio work and portraits, it is superb. But Canon needs more lenses to attract more people here. The R8 is nearly unusable in wildlife or bird photography. R8 is good if Canon offers more budget lenses like Nikon 28-75mm F2.8 with Image stabilization on a budget. The RF24-105 F4 must be offered with R8 at a lower price together. Or it can be a combo offer.

Canon needs mid range lenses like Lumix 1.8 primes or Nikon 1.8 or 1.4. Canon lenses are the most expensive compared to other brands. Those stm motor canon lenses are buzzy no other mfg in todays camera industry even uses stm lenses like that.
