Because it seems like a lot of photography-based channels have musical instruments as background props, assuming they're shooting the video from inside their home. My brother is a professional musician, so I get what you're saying about musical instruments. Really nice and funny, must admit I never dared to do this line up in front of my husband ;-), he knows I spend an awful lot on my camara gear, but summing it up, oh boy ..... Enjoy the R5markII ;-)
Imagine her reaction if you do serious astrophoto.... +20,000$ gear and almost no revenu expectation. And you can only use it at 100% when the sky is nearly perfect. You typically have to drive few hours to get away from light pollution!
Astro is the slippery slope of photography. Yes, you can _start_ with your existing gear. You get a few nice night shots, perhaps capture the milky way nightscape. Next thing you know it, you're shopping for an EQ mount and astro-specific full-frame CCD camera for deep field. LOL
I started photography 4 years ago and my craziest purchase as the Sigma 60-600mm. They're like $1500 used. I also spent like $800 on the Canon 16-35mm F4. Honestly, both amazing lenses and worth the prices. I can do videography no problem with the 16-35, the AF is silent. The stabilization on the Sigma, incredible being able to shoot 1/50 at 600mm. Also the AF is basically silent. I wanna get a drone next year. I might try to get into realty photography for extra cash to pay for my camera stuff haha.
Reminds me of an old GF who got sticker shock when I was buying a few pieces of climbing gear and later realized that I was a relative minimalist (or just cheap).
Ya.... I just recently got married and my wife asked me how much everything costs... That what a very eye opening conversation for her haha luckily (Even though she is extremely frugal) she was pretty understanding that it is my career and I do make decent money and support us both with it. Although my gear costs is closer to 25,000 dollars lol
I really suffered with Gear acquisition until about 12 months maybe 18 months ago and I sold everything that cost me a lot of money and I bought lots of stuff that cost me next to nothing my photography if anything has improved and my photographs no longer look like they are over sample digital photographs. In fact when I show my cameras to any photographer friends and show them the images I am getting from them which is mainly Olympus micro four thirds cameras they can't believe how cheap they were and how good the images are.
yeah the gear prices add up, and here are indeed some items that could be seen duplicate and nice to have stuff. But tbh this not hugely expensive gear collection and what you have seems very smart in terms of cost/abilities!
My question is: why do you own a 70-200 F/4 and a 100-500? They almost entirely overlap, no? Why not get a standard zoom to cover the 35-100mm gap? (unfortunately in RF, they don't have many interesting standard zoom options, like the Tamron 28-75 for example would fit well in that gap, but the 24-105 costs the same as the 70-200 f/4)
good question honestly, but maybe it just doesn't fit his style of photography? also, they have the 24-105 f2.8 now, that's a pretty interesting lens imo that pairs great with the 100-500
These were definitely eye-watering prices lol, but honestly I expected much worse knowing how much some of the upper-tier lenses and bodies some full-on professionals use. I actually got myself a Sony mirrorless body with two lenses, which came to $1500 in total, which isn't terrible at all for a mirrorless setup but it's still eye-watering to me haha (super stoked to use it though!)
Having just moved from APS-C to full-frame, and thus needing to replace my whole system, it's a bit of a relief to realize that, however much I may have spent on it, it’s still far less than the prices you've given for the equivalent pieces.
Since 1974 I have been investing and re-investing in my photo system. I take good care of my equipment and sell items as systems, (camera bodies with lenses) when there is a major change in equipment designs/capabilities. I sold my Nikkormat FT2 and Nikkormat EL with Nikon MF50mm f2 and Vivitar MF75-205mm f3.8 and bought a Nikon F3 with a Nikon MF85mm f2 lens and a Nikon MF35mm f2.8 lens in 1980. I've continued to do this for 50 years and the last update consisted of selling four Nikon bodies with 39 lenses when I closed out my 37year photo business and simplified my system when the Nikon Z system was introduced. I never looked to make money off my older equipment. I weighed the service the equipment provided, and the quality of results derived against the used dollars they bring in. Going from manual advance film bodies to motor advance film bodies, film bodies to digital bodies, MF to AF lenses and from DSLR bodies to mirrorless bodies lowered my outlay for the new system components as major system changes occurred. Some of the latest lenses sold were 10, 20, 30 and 40 years old and the camera bodies were four to eight years old in Immaculate condition.

I started shooting in high-school using an old nikon d5100 i found in our house and never really bothered to look at lenses or accessories, so i had no idea how expensive this hobby was going to be until just last year when i bought my own camera for the fist time. One year into taking photography a little bit more enthusiastically, ive spent around 3k + usd already like damn im not even a professional photographer lmao
I just bought a Leica 50mm 0.95 Noctilux two weeks ago brand new because I wanted to own one and still haven’t used it while it lays on a table littered with clutter from Amazon packages of random stuff I need for the house. My Nikon Z9 is on another table with the Z135mm Plena. I’m planning on buying the new Canon R5 Mark II and the RF85mm f1.2. None of these come close in value to the most expensive items I own and collect (that is not camera gear) I’m not rich, I just work very hard, I’m a collector, so I work sometimes for months or even years ( because I don’t earn a lot) to buy the good things I want. But everything I buy I study and research for weeks on end before buying
Between Nikon, Canon, Sony, and Fuji, I think I'd want only one of the brands. Too many different operational modes would break me. The Noctilux on the Z9 seems cool.
Ha! Small potatoes. I have 40 lenses for my Canon system, and lots of converters / adapters / filters. I have an old digital Pentax system, and an older Pentax film system. In addition to the Canon system, I currently use 3 Insta360 cameras (X1, X3, Ace Pro), and old Sony F828 (for infrared), Olympus TG-6, Lumix TS-200, Nikon P7700. For Processing / viewing / file back-up I have an 8" tablet, 12.4" tablet (brand new addition), a mini travel laptop, and a 14.4" Surface laptop. So you can at least you can defend yourself by saying, "At least I'm not as bad as Ray!"
Tell me about it. When he placed the mic at the end of the table and it looked like it was about to roll off. The camera, knowing Canon's durability, was probably the least at risk, as it probably would survive a small explosion. 😂 (Look up the image taken by army photographer that got blown up. Soldier died (rip), but camera survived. Canon 1D Mk4 I think it was)

My man said 1:28 “ everything can’t be on this side” idk she was putting it on the expensive side and that sounds like camera gear to me 😂 really canon so I think she was on to something.
If you have the R5 I would get a new lens instead of getting the Mark 2, it's definitely a nice upgrade but not enough to justify all of the extra money in my opinion. same sensor size, a little bit faster read out speed and better auto focus is not worth spending extra thousands of dollars for me anyway
At least photography is moving more and more into a situation in which you don't need to spend utterly stupid amounts of money to get good gear! Like if you were a wildlife photographer about 15 years ago or so, telephoto primes were still pretty much the only way to go and those usually *start* at around 10.000 bucks. Now you have telephoto zooms available that you can get for way under 2.000 bucks and the image quality is actually great! Like my Z 180-600. Sure you don't get an f/2.8 or f/4 aperture but is that difference really worth 10.000 bucks? Besides, these days you can just bump up the ISO by a stop and then process the image with something like DxO PureRAW. Which cost me 80 bucks. I think this is a great time to be a photographer. Especially if you are just starting out.
so for the tons of iphone vs high end pro camera videos on youtube. was it worth it? will iphone make all of this purchase obsolete in the next 3 years? im figuring out if I should invest on this career or run away from it due to oversaturation, AI and tech catching up ( for the untrained eye) to profesional cameras.
"Now, what's the most expensive you have ever bought, that's not, like, a car?" If I was in her place, I would start asking myself if the equipment is more expensive than the house itself 😂
You two make a cute couple. But, I never understand these videos where one partner guesses how much the other partner spent on photography gear. Either you're really secure in your relationship or it's a really really bad idea. Good luck in the future. Love adjustable desks, btw. 🥰
Despite things costing what they cost, the selection of gear seems reasonable for a photographer, I was surprised that he didn’t have even more lenses, and I would have expected an extra tripod and gimbal too, plus some lights, flashes, reflectors etc. Being a photographer isn’t easy, because after all, you need to earn back the cost of the gear.
Never seen your channel before now, but you two are adorable. Gas is expensive and you dealt with it well 😆. Thankfully the RUclips paychecks almost covered it. 😆
All good fun. It don't matter how much you spend on kit. If its' what your into then so be it. Could be worse, could be in the pub or down the betting shop everyday. Nice to have something to show for your hard earned. Upto now my camera gear is still dwarfed by what I used to spend on Mountain bikes and accessories.
LOL
Hats off to you and your partner. That is every GAS nightmare conversation. 😊
I might try to get into realty photography for extra cash to pay for my camera stuff haha.
i'm actually impressed how lean your kit is; very little redundancy overall; well done
Reminds me of an old GF who got sticker shock when I was buying a few pieces of climbing gear and later realized that I was a relative minimalist (or just cheap).
how we supposed to buy gear if we not being cheap on everything else xD
With the climbing gear, you do get to say, "This keeps me alive."
First time watching one of your videos. I enjoyed it. You two are a great couple. Wish you both the best.
This was the best what's in my bag video ever. But you did actually forget about the multiple camera packs and the $1000.00 tripod and head combo.
Hah. I do have a "whats in my camera bag" video. This is a lot more fun though
Don’t forget the lighting! 🙈
DUDE! Let that lovely lady make your decisions. She’s obviously brighter.
Love the 3:57 where you are very worried in case the lens drops
12:27 Your laptop is $4000!!!! ha, ha, ha - mine too - do NOT tell my wife!
I really hope you are buying it because you just like Mac and not for performance or hardware, otherwise I´m telling her
Ya.... I just recently got married and my wife asked me how much everything costs... That what a very eye opening conversation for her haha luckily (Even though she is extremely frugal) she was pretty understanding that it is my career and I do make decent money and support us both with it. Although my gear costs is closer to 25,000 dollars lol
Cute... and glad you're still together - she's the real deal and forever keeper! (us, I'm not so sure...)
Agreed:)
I like how their glasses matches to each other. Nice couple!
Someone noticed!
yeah the gear prices add up, and here are indeed some items that could be seen duplicate and nice to have stuff. But tbh this not hugely expensive gear collection and what you have seems very smart in terms of cost/abilities!
My question is: why do you own a 70-200 F/4 and a 100-500? They almost entirely overlap, no? Why not get a standard zoom to cover the 35-100mm gap? (unfortunately in RF, they don't have many interesting standard zoom options, like the Tamron 28-75 for example would fit well in that gap, but the 24-105 costs the same as the 70-200 f/4)
good question honestly, but maybe it just doesn't fit his style of photography?
also, they have the 24-105 f2.8 now, that's a pretty interesting lens imo that pairs great with the 100-500
@@CivilStig Yea, but it costs as much as a car, and weights almost as much as well :D Lovely lens, but I would never put it in my bag personally :P
one I can take anywhere, the other I cannot. Very different purposes overall!
Title should be „how to look like an a** hole showing off my stuff while my gf only has an $800 laptop haha“ 😂
Alex, I love the may your eyes bugged when Sophia placed your lav mic down 😅😅
hehe
These were definitely eye-watering prices lol, but honestly I expected much worse knowing how much some of the upper-tier lenses and bodies some full-on professionals use. I actually got myself a Sony mirrorless body with two lenses, which came to $1500 in total, which isn't terrible at all for a mirrorless setup but it's still eye-watering to me haha (super stoked to use it though!)
Having just moved from APS-C to full-frame, and thus needing to replace my whole system, it's a bit of a relief to realize that, however much I may have spent on it, it’s still far less than the prices you've given for the equivalent pieces.
you went out thievin' or what 😂
If I wanted to make a video like this, do I need to get a partner first?
I like the "help out around the house" as if you didn't live there... 😂 Frail looking guy telling a woman she is tiny... woman are huge 🎉 immensity defines women. Don't compare a woman to a kid. Learn that. I love your videos. That one 😂 She will teach you a lot about life. 🎉🎉🎉 continue bringing the great work. ❤
Instead of criticizing you as an out of control gear junkie, I’m going to thank you for paying for the innovation that benifits us all. 🤔 😁
@@tommyh.8391 I do my part.
you are genuine hope you will be happy together
She’s so adorable 😭
I buy pretty much all my gear used. The holy grail is a widow selling her husband's stuff for what he told her he paid for it.
This video is the very definition of humble brag.
You must love her a lot.
I had a similar talk with my wife, but I told her: "if you really love me, you will NEVER touch this gear" 😅
Feeling nervous about that 100-500 and the camera on the edge of the table 😆
Tell me about it. When he placed the mic at the end of the table and it looked like it was about to roll off.
The camera, knowing Canon's durability, was probably the least at risk, as it probably would survive a small explosion. 😂
(Look up the image taken by army photographer that got blown up. Soldier died (rip), but camera survived. Canon 1D Mk4 I think it was)
Great video. Sophia is a keeper!
lovely to see the mavic 2 pro still in action! love mine till today!!
wonder what you use it for along side the Mavic 3?
I haven't used it much but it's geo unlocked... Which can be useful
@@AlexArmitage Thats awesome! Ive seen many use it to its full potential and cant find how to do so with mine. The footage ive seen from others is truly amazing!! Maybe you could make one or two videos on it as well that would be greatttt!!!
Love the contenct btw! Earned a new sub
Sophia seems very understanding but maybe the shock hasn't worn off yet? WAF or GAF is pretty rare in camera equipment (some white lenses apply) but fortunately great photos and videos are almost always approved.
What microphone are you using in this video? it sounds so natural and was it recorded into de camera or with a separate recorder, it sound really good
an NTG5 and old zoom h4n. Didn't even mention it in the video
@@AlexArmitage Thank you
I found your channel while watching a Gavin Hardcastle video. You have an awesome channel and your Newfoundland adventure was terrific to watch. I loved this video with Sophia. You are a blessed man !. Keep up the great work and I hope to do an Armitage Adventure Class™ with you in the very near future. Cheers!
Thanks Bruce
*"Why is your laptop 4 thousand dollars?"*
Because it's apple... remove the logo and you have about 700 hundred dollars real worth. :D
1.500 - with similar performance and quality
Love the chemistry. Subbed!
My man said 1:28 “ everything can’t be on this side” idk she was putting it on the expensive side and that sounds like camera gear to me 😂 really canon so I think she was on to something.
"And for our last item"
pulls out full cinema rig
your work is nice , i think flexing helps motivating to do more and more high quality work. i do the same with my fountain pens
Love your guys vibe!! Great video idea Alex !!
More to come!
If you have the R5 I would get a new lens instead of getting the Mark 2, it's definitely a nice upgrade but not enough to justify all of the extra money in my opinion. same sensor size, a little bit faster read out speed and better auto focus is not worth spending extra thousands of dollars for me anyway
she knows how to go to sponsors. Shw knew it all part of the business. They stay together most likely.
Thanks for sharing. It's pretty fun to watch
thank you! It was intended to be fun
Greatly enjoyed that one! (I have not had such a talk with B...)
Glad you enjoyed it
At least photography is moving more and more into a situation in which you don't need to spend utterly stupid amounts of money to get good gear!
Those Maven filters are worth their weight in gold. I love mine! Big investment but well worth it if you take care of your gear.
5:04 „Oh Boy“😂
"Now, what's the most expensive you have ever bought, that's not, like, a car?"
If I was in her place, I would start asking myself if the equipment is more expensive than the house itself 😂
You two make a cute couple. But, I never understand these videos where one partner guesses how much the other partner spent on photography gear. Either you're really secure in your relationship or it's a really really bad idea. Good luck in the future. Love adjustable desks, btw. 🥰
Just for fun :)
I’m glad I bought the M1 Apple laptop on sale for only $2,400. It has pretty much the same specs are yours but the RAM is 64GB.
Rocking the maven filters ❤
All good fun. It don't matter how much you spend on kit. If its' what your into then so be it. Could be worse, could be in the pub or down the betting shop everyday. Nice to have something to show for your hard earned. Upto now my camera gear is still dwarfed by what I used to spend on Mountain bikes and accessories. Wife used to moan about having X mount of bikes, to which I'd reply "do you really need 5 sewing machines" 🤣
I'd like to see the Leica version of this.... waiting...
This is educational 🙌🙌🙌
Congrats on having such an amazing girlfriend. 😊 I wish you two all the best.
