Have had my R8 for 15 months. Took it on a 14 day trip to the UK and Ireland. I took 4 batteries, but really never used more than 11/2 in a day. I took a little over 5,000 pictures and it rarely missed focus. Low light was awesome. What a fantastic camera
I just watched a fix for clearing the buffer quicker for the R8. Menu Settings on Tab 5 in Lens Aberration Correction, Turn off the Digital Lens Optimizer. Now you do not have to wait as long if you shoot at the full capacity of 40 shots. Hope this is helpful! Cheers!
I’m an interior photographer and bought an R8 2 months ago. I have to say it’s a great camera with all the features I need, packed into a light body, which is perfect to travel back-and-forth to work with every day.
Thanks, this puts a lot of things into perspective. As well as having me think "You have a teeny tiny buffer", needs to be added to your T-shirt collection.
I bought the R8 as my first full frame back in April, when it came out. I am really satisfied with the camera. No IBIS isn't that much of a hindrance to me and even the overheating is not a problem. Only when I shoot lots of 4k 60fps footage on warm days does it start to overheat. Never to the point of shutdown though. Battery life is not great, but I am always carrying 3 spares, so thats not a problem either. For glass I use the 70-200, f2.8 and 35mm, f1.8 most of the time. 10/10 would buy again. Happy with my choice.
The goat! Been watching you since 2010 when i first picked up my t2i! Im deep in my career as a commercial & wedding photographer & videographer. Keep up the amazing videos
Excellent review! I wound up buying the R8 and an adapter to fit my EF lenses. The jump in picture quality is noticeable! 10/10 would recommend for the more budget-conscious (especially if you want to save $1,000+ by not buying the R6 mk II. The image and video quality is basically identical, as I rented both and tested before purchase)
Such a underrated camera! I love my R8 paired with the RF 100-500. A very light wildlife setup. Having the aches and and pains that come with aging, having a really light weight setup helps.
I moved from the EOS-R to the R8, and overall, the R8 is a great camera. I shoot landscapes and macros (wildflowers, etc) and the features missing from the R8 vs the R6MkII were just not important enough to justify an extra $1,000. The R8 images in low light have low to non-existent noise, even at high ISO's. The AF, especially when shooting macro is far and away better than the R. With the R, I could not rely on AF to be accurate when shooting macro, and had to shoot with MF. With the R8, the focus is much more accurate, and i rarely have to manually focus on macro shots. There is one GLARING PROBLEM with the R8: It has a propensity to overheat in moderate temperatures, when shooting photos (not video). This has occurred to me several times while shooting outdoors. I was shooting single shot photos, sometimes a few minutes apart, in 70-80 degree low humidity weather, and have had the camera warn of "overheating" and then shut down. These temperatures are FAR below the operating limit of the camera. When it first happened, I sent the camera to Canon and they said it operated normally, which I dispute. It has since occurred several more times, and I have spoken to Canon support about it, but they are lost. I don't believe it is a wide spread issue, but a quick Google search will show that I am not the only one with this issue. Canon needs to address the overheating problem.
I had a sightseeing trip to southern Utah come up right when the R8 was released and couldn't wait to put my new camera through its paces. I was and still am thrilled with its performance, but I immediately ran into the same overheating problem on that sightseeing trip. I've found I can't carry this camera mounted on my Cotton Carrier without turning it off and either covering it with my hand or with the waterproof covering attached to the Cotton Carrier and expect to still be able to use it again. Any direct exposure to the heat of the sun to the back of the camera will overheat it within only a couple of minutes. Edit: stupid autocorrect grammatical error
Strange, I have the r8 in Singapore with constant high temp+humidity, shooting in jungle, shooting in the sun, haven't had a single issue. Maybe a manufacturing issue on some model?
I want to get this camera so bad but keep seeing people post this issue. I would be toast if the overheating issue happened while I was shooting for a client. SMH. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much Jared, i finally got my Canon R8, paired with RF 35mm 1.8, RF 50mm1.8, RF 24-105mm F4 L lens, and adapted EF 55-205mm. Its a complete arsenal of Portable Masterpiece!
BATTERY GRIP FOR R8 ???? YES . ... there is a battery grip that works on R8. The 3rd party battery grip made for RP, such as Vello BG C18 , fits and works perfectly on my R8. Includes a 2nd shutter for vertical shooting. So you can have double battery power. Bought my BG 3 years ago for RP at B&H. When I saw your first R8 video mentionning the Canon's extension grip I just KNEW that the BG C18 would also fit R8. Immediately ordered R8 when it was announced. Been shooting R8 with battery grip for several months now. Indeed my go-to camera now despite my RP, R6, R5C ... Sure I like 4K120 on R5C but I very much LOVE 2K180 on R8, too, and the lightweight for hiking, birding, travelling, and how fast the camera shifts from photo to video mode or vice-versa compared to R5C 's multi-seconds pause... also dislike on R5C that there is no AWB at 120fps video... P.S. I lost the tiny cable for the BG , found replacement on aliexpress for 1 dollar plus shipping ;-)
I’ve stoood up night after night, tossing and turning because I don’t know what mirrorless camera to buy. I want you to know that I am a new fan of yours! Your videos are so real, and raw and I appreciate that so much! You really simplified things and made it easy for me! So thank you!
Thank you again for confirming my decision to buy the R8 (largely because of your first review). I'm really happy with it. I only came to a limit when taking pictures of flying owls at 40 fps, even with the Sandisk Extreme, I had to wait for the buffer to be ready again. And I ordered a UHS-II V90 Sandisk Extreme Pro today. The price really came down over the past few weeks. Greez from Switzerland Thomas
@@soedionolenz Hello, after more than 10'000 pictures, I can still say that I'm happy with my decision. For me as an amateur, it is the camera with most of the features that I was looking for, and for a reasonable price.
Ah thank you for your opinion, I am considering this camera but I am aware the lack of in body stabilization and the poor battery life. The image quality itself looks so good in other forum.
@@soedionolenz Yes, IBIS and Battery size, and only one card slot, are the cuts that make the 1000$ difference to the R6II. But I never had IBIS before, I can live with that (and you can buy lenses with image stabilization). I never had 2 card slots, I can live with that, too (backup your images to a laptop frequently, if they are important). And: Always set the camera to "flight mode" to turn off Bluetooth and WiFi, unless you actually need it. That makes battery life a lot better.
Choosing a camera is, like you said, finding out what trade offs you can live with. I absolutely love the r8 and the r6 mark ii would not have been worth the thousand dollars more for me at this moment of time. I am used to the battery life, as my previous camera used the same one. I always packed 2 or 3 batteries while shooting out and never had an issue. Ibis is useful, but i don’t shoot lower shutter speeds that often, so no problemo for me. Only electronic shutter…well I wouldn’t really notice the difference from a mechanical one anyway, especially since I don’t shoot sports. For me, there is no way that spending thousand dollars more would be justified for my uses. In fact, after trying out this camera for the last few weeks, I feel this is the camera I’ve been waiting for. It packs all the features that are essential to me, and perhaps even more than I will need. Safe to say I am as impressed with this camera as you seem to be!
The R8 is the perfect travel camera for me (an aged Canon user getting back into photography and wanting to go full frame). The hardest thing for me is figuring out my workflow to be honest.
I own a R6 (and 7D mk II and 5D mk II) and an would love to have a R6 mk II. But as a hobby photographer I don't have the money to spend on a pricy camera house, so I went for the R8 and I'm not disappointed. It's sharp and fast in autofocus and I would rather spend my money in better glass (my glass are RF 24/70 2:8, RF 35 1:8, RF 85 2:0, EF 50 1:8, EF 70-200 2:8, EF 16-35 2:8, 100-400 Trumpet, EF 24-105 4:0 and some more.... An the old EF glasses adapted to RF are working so fine and I'm very happy about my R8 (and so are those from the weddings and birthdays to.....) It's a "master" piece ;-)
@@CarlosVixil if you are doing 4K videos, those cheap kit lens will do the job. If you are a stills guy, all EF lenses are available and perform better than it was first out.
Three things that make this camera unacceptable to me. First, dismal customizability, which makes yo dive into menu for common tasks. Second, I hate Canon green colors, and sky color, this is probably the worst camera for landscapes. Third, there is no IBIS. In this age a camera w/o IBIS is an anachronism.
@@ElementaryWatson-123 1. What are you on about? Which settings? 2. It's subjective 3. RF lens IS is better than IBIS in Sony/Nikon... Unless you are adapting EF lenses, I struggle with the hate on R8 because of the IBIS.
I have the same camera. I can assure all the information is 100% legit. It's a great camera and I'm not looking to switch my camera soon. Great low-light performance, lightweight, and great for everything. From weddings to product photography! keep extra cards and batteries for safety. I can cover a 6-hour wedding shoot on 2 batteries only (Photography). If anyone is looking to buy a camera with great features but on budget this is the camera you want to buy.
Great Video!! Thinking of picking up the R8 as an everyday carry/vacation camera with a rf 35mm. I was gonna look at the r50 but I can't leave the full frame!
As a stock photography shooter the R8 is perfect. Paired with the superzoom 24-240mm, one can't go wrong. Add a cheap 50mm 1.8 plastic fantastic and all bases are covered. For pro work, I would not risk a single card slot and go with the R6 mk2.
Just purchased the R8 this is my first full frame camera chose this over the R6ii so I could afford glass. Plus I wanted a small body to travel and hike with
I've been using my first ever camera, 250D, for three years and now that I finished secondary school, I feel like now I can upgrade my gear. So r8 with a EF 24-105mm f4.0L IS ll USM (with an adapter) is definitely a big step up for me.
@@froknowsphotoEven my little nephew can use the Z5 to take pictures of the swift cat. You don't have the ability to rely on a very limited Forex system at the cost of file quality.
Jared thanks for this review. I’m just getting into corporate video interviews and the R8 is within my budget. Only just finding out about this camera a year later. A solid review that put my mind at ease.
What is that you have hooked up to the camera @ 3:59? External Screen? What are those for if the camera has a screen? (just getting into photography ive only been doing product shooting since im a web dev so trying to learn as much as I can about getting to the next level. Thanks in advance for any answers. @@ChevaughnHibbert never had IBIS for over a decade for photos and it’s never been a problem. 5D + 25-70mm was my go-to 85% of the time. Only form of stabilisation I’ve got was with the 70-200mm
What’s wrong with your m50? I have the 22, 32 and 56 primes for mine, and there is no picture I can’t take! Video quality is great as well! The m50 is the last camera I will ever need!
Moving from a 6Dmkii. Would you pick up a used R6 or a new R8? I know both would be an upgrade but the battery life on the R8 and the lower megapixels of the R6 both have me worried.
I am using an R5 and I am jealous how sticky the Eye AF of the R8 from your sample live view. You got me sold with this statement "in my opinion the R8 auto focus is superior than that of the Sony flagship A1 and head and heel with Nikon Z9 and Z8".
I’m an “advanced beginner” and I’m looking for an upgrade from my old Canon 600D. I was about to get the Sony alpha 7IV, but the more I look into the R8, the more intrigued I am. Would you say that the Canon R6 Mark II is kind of “too much” for an advanced beginner? Should I stay on the R8? I shoot mainly landscapes, portraits, street photography and occasionally skies at night when I’m travelling. I really can’t decide… Canon colors are kind of hard to leave behind
Great video man!! I'm looking for a great camera for mostly video but of course not limited to. This seems perfect for me. I have a gimbal for the stability. Funny, I live in the greater Philly area. I didn't know there was an Allens right in Levittown. Thanks man!!!
Hey Jared! I was thinking of picking up the R8, but my only concern would be the warping of shooting at 40FPS. Does that happen only in basketball, tennis type sports? I only shoot cars, and airshows. Think the R8 would do ok in those situations?
Hi Jared, thank you for this Canon R8 review. Do you plan to make a conparison review between the Canon R8 and the Sony a7C II? It would be good to see how you compare these cameras. Thanks!
Yo Jared, What shutter curtain did you use when shooting sports with the R8. I got rolling shutter effects on mine while shooting sports. What settings did you use?🤔💭
I've owned the Lumix S5 and the RP. I loved the ergonomics of the RP but the low light performance and color science were way below the Panasonic's, (The only exception were the skin tones, I preferred the look of Canon's.) No surprise there since the RP is an entry level ff camera. How is the R8 in low light, at high ISOs? I'm into handheld street photography. I'm thinking of buying the new Sony A7Cii but it's more expensive than the Canon and since I will get it with something like a 20-60 lens, it will be heavier than the Canon rf 20-105 lens which was amazingly light.
simple, Fuji refuses to send us review units. After years of trying, it's just not worth it. Nothing from Leica, nothing from Panasonic. Also, Nikon, Canon, Sony.....are really the ones for Pro's. Unless you wanna get into the Top of the Line Fuji medium formats which I'd love to try.
@@froknowsphoto that's a shame I guess but you can always loan out new models when they come out surely then just send them back when done? Maybe that means coming at a cost from yourselves but you'd bring in more of an audience who may like other brands outside those 3 you mainly cover. A few months ago I switched from Canon to Fujifilm as Canon has become too corporate for me and the constant RUclipsr hype all the time for them was starting to bug me. All their bodies look the same and don't stand out as well. Obviously what is inside is what matters more but it's nice when you can have a camera that turns heads too.
Great long term review. This looks like a greta option for a Full Frame body, for the "serious hobby" photographer. I'm currently looking to upgrade from my well worn 7D (MK1) & was looking at the R7, but now the R8 is an option.
The R7 is closer to the 7D, and much better than the original 7D. If your uses still require the closer reach of the APS-C crop sensor, then stick with the R7. Even though the R8 is small and light, the R7 is smaller and lighter yet, but still has the larger battery as well as IBIS. I have both (R8 is new) as well as an R5C, and the R7 is the one up to now that I've used the most. Having said that, I was gifted the R8 for my birthday, and it's been a pleasure to use. So, R7 advantages: larger battery, higher resolution sensor, full mechanical shutter to 15fps, IBIS, 2 card slots, weatherproofed. R8 advantages: better autofocus, (R3's autofocus system), more compact and lighter weight for a full-frame, full-frame?
Hi Jared, following one of your reviews I got my hands on an R8 and it is truly amazing. However, I am having a major issue with it - when I am recording, the image looks like it is moving, like something is out of focus and it needs to focus and it is slightly moving towards the edges ? I don't know how to explain it better. First I thought it was the digital IS and I turned it off. The lens is a 24-70 F2.8 brand new. I am shooting from the top, camera is fixed. If any of you knows what it is, it is doing my head in ... :D
I have R8 since it came out. I previously used a 5DmkII. I like to go for multi hour hikes in the forest and this is somewhat problematic with R8. I keep the camera at the ready and it is possible that the viewfinder will remain on as the camera bounces off my stomach, which will drain the battery real quick. With 5D this issue didn't exist and the battery lasted forever. Other than that, the camera is a marvel of technology and I am very impressed what it can do, especially in the video department.
@@kasparov9944 Image quality is great, I have no issues, it's at least as good as 5DmkII at low ISOs, and it's way better at higher ISOs. I have RF 35/1.8 and 50/1.8 and EF 200/2.8L. I don't use any zooms, but checked that it works with vintage manual lenses (M42 and C/Y mount).
I can upon this review after purchasing it instead of an R7 as a full frame option. This also is to Replace my 80D as a backup and mainly to avoid using my R6 I situationd where I don't want to put my R6 at risk. I'm glad to hear you say good things about it because I really like it. As a bonus i realized it uses the same battery as the T6 Rebel which was my first camera so I have a total of 3 batteries from it. My R8 is also going to be my "on the go" camera ( another benifit of it's small body ) since I decided to stop using my phone ( except when I'm doing IG stories or something ) but yeah I'm happy with this camera and I love having it with me ✌🏾
Thank you for the great video, With the new R1 and R5 out, I was thinking of upgrading to either one of these, or was thinking about waiting and looking on the used market for the R3. I currently have the EOSR8 and have been happy with it but there are a few features I am missing that I like. But felt there was not a lot to upgrade to with the R3. What are your thoughts of upgrading from a EOSR8 to one of these?
I'm still on the fence for my upgrade between this or the R7. I really like shooting handheld because I like to get weird angles, so naturally I would love to have the IBIS in the R7. However, it would be nice to go to full frame (currently am not), and to have the current/updated AF and Processor.
I just bought the R8 about a month ago and the full frame sensor really pushed me to the R8. I was also considering the R7 haha. I think full frame is worth it if you’re like me and gonna keep the camera for a long time.
I would go with r8. R7 is good but it does get unnatural noise/color pretty quickly when raising the iso and for most people I would say go with the r8 (or a fuji instead for aps-c) with some exceptions like wildlife. Camera shake can be countered with faster shutter speeds, not to mention the IS that some lenses do have. I would definitely go r8 if you are on the fence.
@@ryanclouse299 But raising the ISO to what degree? I tend to try and keep in the ISO super low if I can help it. So like what kind of numbers are we talking?
@@BlissfullyIgnorant You only really need 1/(focal length) shutter speed minimum as a rule of thumb. Maybe a little more if you aren't careful with the shot. The iso on the r8 should be around 2 stops better than the r7 anyway due to tech and pixel size/density. You also have tools like good ai denoiser now too. I generally shoot at 1/250 anyway for general people despite being well over the needed handheld shutter speed. Ibis only helps for handheld and not for subject motion. Its only really useful for static objects, Longer focal lengths and video. I think most longer lenses usually have some sort of IS anyway. I would argue correct exposure is much more important than a little bit of noise, and it sometimes is the difference between having the shot and having nothing. Don't be afraid of using iso 6400 iso etc. I was also worried about having high ISO at first. :)
@@ryanclouse299 But can't you get more stops with IBIS? And it gives you like 5 more or something? And really again I'm no too concerned with ISO. R7 says it can go to max 32000 which is more than enough for me. They are both pretty similar spec/hardware wise honestly except for a few things and difference in features, which most still make me lean towards the R7. It has IBIS (which is the main reason I want it, because I like shooting handheld, because I like getting weird angles and unique perspectives), anti dust shutter, longer battery life, and two card slots. The only reason I'd really get the R8 is the bigger sensor, and maybe because it has the latest auto focus from the R6, but even then, R7 still seems to have perfectly good tracking and focus.
My R10 uses the same battery and I use 3rd party batteries and also in the past with my SL2. The Canon battery IS better. The 3rd party battery doesn't last as long and when it dies, there is no warning. The battery level indicator never changes so you never know how low it is until its too late. I agree with Jared....Buy the Canon battery.
I hate that with my 200d, after market is shocking and just gets worse the more it's used and I get less than half the amount of shots off as with the Canon one
Because of Canon, we don't see the state of the battery. I have seven batteries for my RP and only one is genuine, but the R8 is on the way so I will have two of them :) I have an R with third party batteries and the indicator is working. And these batteries are very old I used then in my old 70D and 80D as well.
I've been watching reviews on the R8 for the last couple of days and I am sold! My only question I have is when you use a Canon adapter to use Canon EF Lenses will there be a crop factor? If so how much?
Jared, I bought stuff you recommend and have been greatly satisfied. May I ask you for a followup video and some tutorial with the R8 for advanced video and photo output...humble request
First of all I'd like to say very good through review of the camera. Thanks a lot! Secondly I'd like to ask your opinion on this camera. I'm a fairly long time Canon DSLR shooter (mostly 7D) and I'm about to switch over to mirrorless. Full frame isn't a must have but while I'm making a change I'd like to switch over to FF finally as well. I'm not a pro by all means but when I do something I'd like to do it as best as I can. I mostly shoot birds like seagulls which doesn't really count as wildlife in my opinion, outdoor sports like soccer, voleyball or tennis and a little bit of macro. With my new camera I'd like to take a serious step into portrait photography as well. The setup I have in mind, at least to start off, is Canon R8 with Canon 24-105L f4, 50mm f1.8 stm using the adaptor. What do you think of this setup? Autofocus is important and I'm a bit worried about using adapters.
This camera is fully capable of doing everything you said. I shot the Harlem globetrotters with it at 40fps and you saw the results. Just make sure to use good glass.
@@froknowsphotoHey thanks a lot for quick reply! I loved the shots you got with this camera and it actually got me hyped to get it even more. My only problem is I can only afford f4 lenses at the start and that's using the EF - R mount adaptor. Do you have experience with this? Do you think it will have a significant effect on autofocus performance?
How about a comparison with other entry-level cameras? For my tasks, for example, it seems to me that the Z5 is preferable in this price category. The Nikon has two memory card slots and sensor stabilization.
The Nikon 6ii apparently has better iso than canon r series cameras and that Nikon is “old”. I forget which ones but it basically outperforms the high level r canon cameras . People overlook Nikon
I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I've heard of some banding issues when shooting using full electronic shutter under certain lighting conditions. Did you ever encounter any of this? Will be using to shoot a lot of stage/theater performers both indoors and outdoors in low light settings with constant lighting changes on stage throughout the shows. Thanks
That’s what the variable shutter is for, to counteract the flickering in electronic shutter. This camera has that feature just like the other newer canon cameras
What about as an upgrade from the Canon R7? I've had the R7 a year now and I'm wondering, as an amateur photographer and videographer, if the R8 wouldn't have been a better option.
Hi Jared, in your opinion how is the AF of R8 vs RP? Now I'm using RP but I'm non absolutely happy with that camera and I'm seriously thinking to take another body camera, like R8.
Would you make a video about Lumix S5ii in photography? There are lots of video talk about video spec but not a real world photography. Wish you will make this out :)
Jared can you help point me i direction of what to buy? I was more than my iPhone but don’t think I need a 3k+ camera. Want to get into as a hobby right now looking at Nikon z50, r8 or Sony a6700
Question to everyone... I have the T5i yet and I want to make a big jump into full frame. I only have EF/ EF-s lenses. Would yo recommend a 6D mkII o the R8 with the Ef to R adapter? thankyou! Greetings fron Argentina.
Panasonic body like s5ii make more senses, you have to consider the cost of lenses and body together. How much will you have to pay for canon? For Lmount camera , you get countless wide pricepoint and still have quality glass, when you buy r8 and if you are on budget you have no other options than canon line of budget lenses.
There are professional using Panasonic and Sigma lenses and bodies all over worlds. I know people even in my local who us lumix body to shoot film and still commercially on gh and lumix s bodies . Canon glass is no different than those of other professional glass. Only canon saleman says that.
I've been a semi-professional photographer since the 90's... then left it for another career but never stopped as a hobby. I've got a lot Nikon gear.. including the D750 and some ok glass for it... also have the D5500, and an IR converted one.. and some flash equipment.. But I don't use most of what i have and I have too much. I was thinking of '1 camera to rule them all'... and was looking at the Nikon Z5. The 2 most important things for me shooting: Focus speed/accuracy (did it do it quickly, and where i wanted it?) and the manual controls. Can I dial in the exposure with 2 dials? (1 for aperture and 1 for shutter speed)? After that, lightweight, ergonomic, easy menu system, quick to 1st shot, and of course sharp images. I'm willing to sell all my Nikon stuff if the R8 can do it all. I don't need 5+ lenses and 2+ bodies. I just want 1 24-105 and 1 long telephoto. I can get a different flash controller.. not a big deal there. What would you do? I don't like the way Sony's feel in my hand. I do like the feel of Nikon but I miss a lot of shots because of the autofocus. I take photos of children, street portraits, animals, and I'm always in a rush... so quick and light is what i want. Thanks for any advice... or confirmation the R8 is a really good way to go for what I'm describing... Can't believe I'm considering moving back to Canon again.. I had it in the film days and liked the lighter setup.. but went with Nikon because it was the 'pro's choice' and I wanted to look cool. The N8008s and F100 were both great cameras though... :) And.. the D750 is no slouch either.
Cheers!

I bought the R8 as my first full frame back in April, when it came out. I am really satisfied with the camera. No IBIS isn't that much of a hindrance to me and even the overheating is not a problem.
Full circle moment. Watched you about 14 years ago about the Nikon D3000, now watching you about the Canon R8. Awesome to see your still there!
My channel's A-Rolls are all on the R8 now, and the R8 is also my camera for photography / videography works. Really loving it!

This is my first time watching a video of his, and I feel more confident buying a Canon R8 as my first pro hybrid camera 📷
Hi there, can you share your impression after 8 month usage?
@@soedionolenz Hello,
after more than 10'000 pictures, I can still say that I'm happy with my decision.
An the old EF glasses adapted to RF are working so fine and I'm very happy about my R8 (and so are those from the weddings and birthdays to.....)
It's a "master" piece ;-)
Would you choose R8 over r6? On the verge of getting r6 but this video is getting me hyped for the R8 but I don’t know ..
Is your R8 better than your R6 ?
It’s amazing at how slept on this camera is. At $1500 full frame, 4k60 no crop. There’s nothing on the market like it!!! I love this camera.
And how much for the lens?

@@CarlosVixilepends on lens. RF lenses for less that $200 are available
2. It's subjective
How about the battery in video shooting ?

What’s wrong with your m50? I have the 22, 32 and 56 primes for mine, and there is no picture I can’t take! Video quality is great as well! The m50 is the last camera I will ever need!
I got the R8 as a compliment and backup for my R8. I freaking love it. They compliments the r3 so well.
Hi can you make a review of R8 with 24-105 f4 L lense
I’m an “advanced beginner” and I’m looking for an upgrade from my old Canon 600D. I was about to get the Sony alpha 7IV, but the more I look into the R8, the more intrigued I am. Would you say that the Canon R6 Mark II is kind of “too much” for an advanced beginner? Should I stay on the R8? I shoot mainly landscapes, portraits, street photography and occasionally skies at night when I’m travelling. I really can’t decide… Canon colors are kind of hard to leave behind
I shoot real estate and use the R8 exclusively for video. I’m more than satisfied. So happy I got it. My stills camera is the R6 ( not the R6ii).
Lol none of the reviews mention the 4k overheating issue. Returned mine and bought an R6 mk ii
Great video man!! I'm looking for a great camera for mostly video but of course not limited to. This seems perfect for me. I have a gimbal for the stability. Funny, I live in the greater Philly area. I didn't know there was an Allens right in Levittown. Thanks man!!!
R8will be great but
It took 3 years but i have saved enough for a z7II and a 24-120 for landscape and events.
Should i go for it or no........
Hey Jared! I was thinking of picking up the R8, but my only concern would be the warping of shooting at 40FPS. Does that happen only in basketball, tennis type sports? I only shoot cars, and airshows. Think the R8 would do ok in those situations?
I would use it for video rig and a external battery
Hi Jared, thank you for this Canon R8 review. Do you plan to make a conparison review between the Canon R8 and the Sony a7C II? It would be good to see how you compare these cameras. Thanks!
Great review Jared. This camera is pretty impressive. 8years ago this would have cost us $4000 body only.
13:34 please tell me which lens did you use to picture the dog. Becaus if it was blurry even with a (L) Lens then it is a deal breaker for me

Canon R8 vs Lumix S5II. Which one to choose? Please guide.
Been a good 5-6 years since I’ve watched your videos cool to see you’re still rockin and rollin - cozying up to a R8, glad you love it too
You only seem to focus on 3 camera manufacturers: Canon, Nikon, Sony. How come? What about Fujifilm as one example?
simple, Fuji refuses to send us review units. After years of trying, it's just not worth it. Nothing from Leica, nothing from Panasonic. Also, Nikon, Canon, Sony.....are really the ones for Pro's. Unless you wanna get into the Top of the Line Fuji medium formats which I'd love to try.
@@froknowsphoto Frankly Nikon should stop sending you stuff as well :)
@@froknowsphoto That would be so cool to see some of Fuji's medium format digitals... dammit, why don't they send things out
@@froknowsphoto that's a shame I guess but you can always loan out new models when they come out surely then just send them back when done? Maybe that means coming at a cost from yourselves but you'd bring in more of an audience who may like other brands outside those 3 you mainly cover. A few months ago I switched from Canon to Fujifilm as Canon has become too corporate for me and the constant RUclipsr hype all the time for them was starting to bug me. All their bodies look the same and don't stand out as well. Obviously what is inside is what matters more but it's nice when you can have a camera that turns heads too.
@@mainmain5303 don’t like Facts so sad. You hate a profesional photographer for telling you the Truth.
You're not wrong, but the answer is to carry lots of those little batteries. They only take a second to swap out - it's not a big issue.
How does the image quality compare between the two? I too have the 5dii and was thinking R8, what lenses are you using?
@@kasparov9944 Image quality is great, I have no issues, it's at least as good as 5DmkII at low ISOs, and it's way better at higher ISOs. I have RF 35/1.8 and 50/1.8 and EF 200/2.8L. I don't use any zooms, but checked that it works with vintage manual lenses (M42 and C/Y mount).
why not just turn the camera off till your ready to shoot??
You taking that to Paris is what me decide on getting the R8. Thanks.
My R8 is also going to be my "on the go" camera ( another benifit of it's small body ) since I decided to stop using my phone ( except when I'm doing IG stories or something ) but yeah I'm happy with this camera and I love having it with me ✌🏾
Did the video looped ? I heard the same things couple of times
@@Slanzro That because the third party manufacturer of LP-E6 has successfully decoded that battery so it can be recognized by camera.

How about a comparison with other entry-level cameras? For my tasks, for example, it seems to me that the Z5 is preferable in this price category. The Nikon has two memory card slots and sensor stabilization.

I don't know anything about a camera. Can you charge R8 while shooting. And can you use a powerbank for charging?
Yes
I can't find a clear answer online but can anyone tell me if the R8 can output clean 4K raw to an external monitor/ recorder?
It’s a very clear answer in this video: No.
Great review, Jared! Clear, practical, comprehensive. Thank you!
Is there a spring on R8's battery lid which I missed in my Canon R10
Panasonic body like s5ii make more senses, you have to consider the cost of lenses and body together. How much will you have to pay for canon? For Lmount camera , you get countless wide pricepoint and still have quality glass, when you buy r8 and if you are on budget you have no other options than canon line of budget lenses.
Quality glass is never cheap...
@@lbeetech sigma , Panasonic look at their premium glass price and compared that to canon’s…
I can’t take Panasonic seriously in the market.
@@y34r Panasonic is not exactly professional...
Of all the camera's my dream camera is the Nikon D850 no clue why. I can hear it whispering to me
