    Cody nailed it in the final seconds of this video. "The best camera is the one you can afford to replace." Last Summer I was shooting on an R5 with the 85mm F1.2 and it stayed in my camera bag for most adventures because I was terrified I would drop it, scratch it, break it. LOL

      Or just be willing to lose it and 'have' to replace it. I've taken my 5d mark IV, which I know, I know, it's a cheap camera now, but 5 years ago wasn't, out on the buffalo river many times to take pictures. I put it in a zip loc baggy, then when I felt the canoe and environment were reasonably safe, I took that baby out and got some great shots. Taken it hiking many times in places I could have fallen hard. That's always been a pet peeve of mine though. People buying stuff and not using it. If you have a pickup truck and the bed has not a single scratch on it, you should have bought a car my friend.

    I wouldn't say this is for beginners. It's way too pricey for that.
    A beginner might be willing to pay $500 total, not $1500 + the price of a lens.
    Most beginners don't even start with full frame.
    I'd say it's more for the intermediate who is maybe upgrading from their APS-C camera and knows they're serious about getting better.

    It seems to me that you are wrong to talk about it as an affordable R successor in a small body (based on price) with a small battery. This is heavily upgraded RP in a slightly modified body for twice the money, in terms of functions way better, but totally killed by the tiny LP-E17. I went from RP to R6 and for photography, I would buy the RP for half the money again.

      I have an RP and love it. You can usually find it on amazon for ~$1000, and the body style and specs appear to be very similar to the R8. Personally would recommend going with an RP and using the saved cash to invest in a good lens. That will generally result in a better bang for your buck in my experience

    • @Br8kz

      I'm currently about to get my first full frame camera and I was having the same debate except that was before the R8 was announced. It was whether to get R or RP but with nearly all the features of the R6Mii inside a RP body I find it hard to not want the R8 over the RP or the R. I have friends who have the R6/RP and R so I've been fortunate enough to test them all out and there's a noticeable difference for me between the RP and the R6 so I've been wanting something closer to the R6 but without the crazy price and I feel like this hits right in the sweet spot.

  • @alistairbeavis1536
    @alistairbeavis1536 Год назад +1

    Peter said it replaces the original R, but actually it replaces the RP. The size, form, battery and price put it in the RP territory. However it could replace an R if you wanted better video and updated AF.
