This for youtube - is the best by far superhero wrap up i have ever seen - encapsulating the spicy goodness of 90s comic TV movies and directly comparing those that were even remembered to those that were not. Well done LOOPER!
I'm defending The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen because it was done very well, in my opinion. The story connected, the scene transitions are near flawless, the script is serious with a bit of drama, the costumes are done well and (for the time) the CGI is great.
The Bixby/Ferrigno Hulk was fantastic. You don't need fancy CGI when you have good stories, good writing, good characters. Every time those pale green contacts showed up, you knew a can of pure whoop-ass was gonna happen!
Here you go: 1 - Ninjak vs The Valiant Universe (2018) 0:16 2 - Man Thing (2005) 1:07 3 - The Spirit (2008) 2:13 4 - Generation X (1996) 3:41 5 - Justice League of America (1997) 5:16 6 - The Incredible Hulk Returns (1988) 6:33 7 - Trial of the Incredible Hulk (1989) 7:32 8 - Fire Arm (1993) 8:17 9 - Nick Fury: Agent of Shield (1998) 9:05 10 - Lightspeed (2006) - 9:55
Harbinger is supposed to be next, I can't wait! Be sure you watch the Ninjak Movie. Valiant posted it to their RUclips. I just finished it...sooo good.
WOW! So many left out! - You sideways mention Corman's Fantastic Four, but didn't "list" it. - Captain America (1979) - Captain America (1990) - Dr. Strange (1978) - Howard the Duck (1986) - I am sure there are a few more, but they aren't coming to me right now
I didn't know "Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe" was available to view. Last I heard it was yanked offline when Valiant was purchased by DMG, and that was right after they'd finished it. I'll check it out!
Hey!!!! I’m sorry. But I’m standing up for the two Hulk movies!!! It was nostalgic to see the tv hulk back again. Yeah.....it was cheesy. But I loved them!!!!
I have SHEILD with Havid Dasselhoff, it is funny. But nothing about the original Fantastic 4 video...??? Maybe you need to do a part 2 of this video. Thank you!
rencrow Technically correct, it is based on the game, but there was also a comic based on the game before the movie even came out. I shoulda said Postal, but I figured even fewer people had seen that or read the comic. (Incidentally, Postal is a terrific comic but a crappy movie. Bloodrayne was a crappy comic and a crappy movie, although the video game was halfway decent)
Plus, I’m leaving out so many truly bad superhero movies, 2005 Fantastic Four, the Hellboy remake, Jonah Hex, etc. Boll is just the low watermark for all bad movies.
John, James Leahy i actually enjoyed it more than sin city. Not saying it is the better movie or anything but i never thought either was bad by any means.
Ohhh. How'd you miss that the actor Bumper Robinson is in two of these movies??? He's actually in the clips you used. He's the kid in The Spirit and he plays Mondo in Generation X. I didn't know it until I saw these clips and thought hey that's the same dude.
Hey, thank you for this! I saw Lightspeed when I was 6 and was curious to see it again, but I couldn't really remember the name of it or what it was about, all I remember was the snake guy.
So Generation X aired on Fox. There was a family trip planned at the same time. So this was February 1996. No TiVo. Which means I had to use the VCR. I had a bunch of bumper commercials promoting Fashion Cafe and Mardi Gras. I was so hyped for this pilot movie that not only did I record back home but I commandeered my grandmother’s VCR just in case. I was so amped up for this movie. I kept thinking if they can do this they’ll do Witchblade or even Danger Girl. I really did think there’s no way it could ever get better than this. Then 2005 and 2008 happened.
There's a Batman film made in the Philippines called Alyas Batman en Robin. It's from 1991 and it's a musical parody. It's awesome. It features comedian Joey de Leon as Batman and a scene-stealing performance from Rene Requiestas as the Joker.
It's because the list is specifically of superheros that came from comics to the screen not the other way around. Meteor man comic came out after the movie was made to try to make money off a failed film. Blackman has no comics. So that's why they are not on the list.
For a moment I thought there was going to be the mention of the early 90s bad comic book idea of Barbed Wire with Pam Anderson. Anyway, when the title name of Ninjak was mentioned, I would have loved to have seen realized the XO Manowar on the small or big screen, for all of its interesting possibilities.
You missed the biggest movie of them all!!! Roger Corman’s Fantastic 4! While it has never officially been released (it was never intended to be for reasons explored in the documentary Doomed), it is easy enough to find. It is pretty entertaining and very Burtonesque in style. I highly recommend people check it out for laughs and for the comic book geekery of it all.
All Superheroes Must Die deserved to be on this list more than most. Sure, it only had a budget of 20,000 Dollars, but it was well written and fun, which is more than I can say about 95 percent of this list.
I remember reading about about that F4 movie when I was a kid, it was never supposed to see the light of day. Also, you should have mentioned the live action Cap America circa (early 90's). Also, the indy comic Faust got a live action adaption.
For a second I thought it was the Spider-man signature move to shoot his webs. But Spider-Man uses 2 fingers to apply the correct amount of pressure to his web device.
You forgot to mention that Lightspeed was a character made up by a guy that won on Stan Lee's tv show, "Who Wants To Be A Superhero?" The main prize of that show was whoever won would have a movie made about their character.
as a kid I loved Incredible hulk (return and trial). the latter gave me a new favorite hero, DD. definitely going to check out: Ninjack, Manthing, and Spirit (Frank Miller). it's Miller art. thanks now I have some bad movies to watch. nothing better to do...lol
I think May 22, 1988 should be recognized as a holiday. Stan Lee's first cameo. As far as I'm concerned, that's more significant than any other holiday that currently exist
I thought I was the only one who remembered the Gen X and Nick Fury TV Movies from the 90s - Both quite clearly back door/recycled Pilots for prospective series on Fox in hind sight... Imagine the alternate reality had either/both been picked up and actually lasted until the Films were green lighted.
I'm sorry, but I cannot comprehend how anyone can put the Man-Thing and Spirit movies on the same list and conclude that the latter is worse than the former. The Spirit is at least memorable and, you know, actually has the Spirit in it for longer than sixty seconds.
They made a lot of these low budget films/tv shows not to make money, but to hold onto their licensing rights. Many of these properties had/have clauses in their contracts that requires them to use them within a certain time frame. If they don't, they then lose the rights to the IP.
I have seen Lightspeed. It's far, far worse than you implied. You were being generous. It's one of 2 movies I've come across so bad that I couldn't finish them (the other being Cinderella 2000 - spare yourselves, don't try to watch that monstrosity).
I had no idea that there was a Ninjak vs The Valiant Universe flick! I love the Valiant characters. Bloodshot was awful. The Valiant heroes/anti heroes deserves a a quality flick.
The Nick Fury movie with Hasslehoff had some good bits to it. I liked the design they had for the Helicarrier, and the uniforms they came up with for HYDRA; some of them wore German-style uniforms with pointed kepis and full-face stocking masks, and some of them wore black suits with dark glasses and were completely bald. It had potential, which unfortunately was left unrealized. I liked Generation X for some of the things it tried to address with regards to adolescent traumas. There was one girl code-named "Buff" who was super-strong but had a hyper-muscular body to go with it, which is why she wore loose-fitting clothes all the time. I could imagine her looking at her body in a mirror and thinking "Why can't I be normal?" Basically the same thing any teenage girl with body issues thinks. I saw The Spirit TV movie and liked it a great deal. Haven't seen the Frank Miller version, and I'm not sure I want to. If Miller ever makes a movie based on his Ronin miniseries, I'll fight my way to the front of the line on opening night. Until then, I'll pass on nearly anything associated with him.
Did you leave out Doctor Strange and Captain America which were pilot episodes that never became series, but Cap had an awesome motorcycle. And how can anyone forget Nicholas Hammond and his baby blue eyes as Spiderman from the 1970s who climbed walls without touching them and where NYC often looked more like Los Angeles...only 13 episodes but he did his own stunts, no CGI, just a strong man with a cable above the camera's sight line.🔥💖🎶🙏😻
I'm surprised there was no mention of the unreleased Fantastic Four movie, Faust, Tank Girl, The Captain America TV movies, or the Doctor Strange TV movie. Oh wait, this is from Looper, never mind.
To defend lightspeed. It was the result of a contest that Stan Lee had for budding comic book artists. The artists created characters and then were slowly voted away with the winner getting a live adaptation of the character they created. Maad respect for the contest in my opinion. Even though the movie was cheesy. It was rushed to fit the TV schedule for the contest.
I just watched here in YT the movie of Ninjak I first thought that it was an indie film showcasing an own super hero but I was dumb founded when I researched that it was a real thing and it also have dozens of super heroes that I have never known.
Have you seen any of these?
Yes. Most of them. 6/10.
I have only seen Nick Fury
Where can I find bloodshot with Vin diesel
Only Generation X and the Hulk crossover with Thor.
The Spirit is an amazing movie! I highly disagree with your opinion on this movie.

Looper: “The Spirit is the worst comic book movie of all time”
Uwe Boll: “Hold my beer, I’m gonna make a Bloodrayne adaptation”
