The idea was good, and would have been better if they hadn't relied on the special effects so much. The story would have been a lot better had it been better developed and less emphasis on the effects that made it appear cheesy. That's just my opinion though.
I remember when i saw BoE the first time i was like "man this looks like real life Fallout 3!" well no wonder since the same guys are behind the set design! loved the ambiance! movie/story itself.. meh
ROOTSCONTRA -"After the fall of civilization nobody would care for the fucking King James Bible, " - innittially speaking yes they wouldn't. But after a little time and times get really desperate, people turn to religion in flocks. Throughout human history we have seen this trend. You just have no idea about humanity. "Just christian bullshit propaganda" - Not really. There is nothing that is saying that it is the true religion or anything like that. Just that a man wants it because he knows full well it can help him control the people with it. "because it wouldnt help you at all. Everyone would prefer a book about gardening or natural medicine" - Bahahahahaha. Doesn't fucken work if all the natural medicine is dead and the ground is saturated in radiation that it's very difficult to guarden. You'd have to get creative and a simple gardening book won't really help you there. Like I said you just couldn't enjoy the movie because you fail to grasp human nature.
:D I thought the movies were good, Constantine, cool twist on the lore. You say it makes no sense comapared to what? Does the religion its based on make sense to you? Makes your next argument pointless. .. Book of Eli, a dude wanted to preserve the bible, so what. I felt no pressure to be christian. In a horrific event like world destruction one would resolve to religion for comfort. Felt more like a post apocalyptic movie to me, like mad max. Guess Mel Gibson was in that and passion of the christ and what not so thats propaganda I guess. Anyhow I enjoyed the movies.
@@sergiosaunier The first Book of Eli would have worked better without Eli - Washington just playing the same character AGAIN for the Nth time. SO boring.
Some were pissed because it wasn’t a carbon copy of the comic book. Some were pissed because it contained elements of religion and/or morality (especially the critics since they usually look down on movies that present religion in a positive light). Opinions are like assholes. Unfortunately, there is a large group of people out there that enjoy rubbing theirs in every one else’s faces.
I understand the hate, but I don't agree with it. There's really a lot they changed about his personality and also the storyline they based the movie on. 1. They don't explain that Balthazar actually put Constantine on the road to his way of thinking as a child. 2. Constantine actually ends his curse by tricking 3 rival kings of hell into keeping him alive which is far more interesting than redeeming himself with God. 3. He's blonde, British, and Chas is an adult with a wife and kids that gets dragged into everything because of an obligation. There's a lot more but realistically you can't expect a perfect adaptation for such a long, convoluted comic book series. The only thing that really put me off was Rachel Weisse and her horrible accent, her need to sound extra husky all the time, and just how annoying her character is. She hunts him down because of his expertise in the occult but then she doesn't believe anything he says when he finally opens up. C'mon now...
I really liked The Cell, The Book of Eli and Constantine. Sometimes I think critics overanalyze things. The Cell and Constantine were visually stunning
u also dont seem to care what other ppl write , otherwise u would have just upvoted a "constantine was good" post instead of being the 800 comment posting the same shit
That is a fun movie. Agreed. Might be to early to remake... Considering when it was made. I bet it could be..., well not trying to take anything away from the orginal but... Yeah, Combining those characters on a new adventure is a joyride i'd like to ride ounce again. Good call.
Yes! It was an amazing movie and literally every complaint I've heard (it was too dark, it reinvented classic heros that people felt shouldnt be altered, it was a cross over of different heros) are things that everyone loved about Marvel movies! It was a great movie with good acting, good special effects, a serious tone, and an interesting plot. I've always felt like it was a 9/10 movie that should be rated alongside or above most Marvel and DC movies.
The Cell, Constatine and Knowing are of a handful of movies that I'll watch multiple times. You can't deny that these movies are entertaining. The critics REALLY need to get out of their heads sometimes...
Abdul Wadood Safa I remember thinking it was boring the first time i watched it, then okay the second time, then straight up entertaining by the third and fourth.
Constantine is an excellent movie. I usually don’t watch these type films yet this is great. I have the blu ray and I watch it whenever it comes on regular TV. The regular ending is really good and so is the alternate ending.
@victor GS no it`s not by any means. it had the ideas but Crowe brought it to another level. Abres los ojos has none of the many layers Vanilla Sky has and the acting is also not that good, not to speak of the poor visuals or lack of music and emotion.
@@solokom that's the biggest crap I've heard in a long time. Vanilla Sky did shit, Abre los Ojos is an original idea full of layers that Vanilla Sky does not have. They add nothing but cheap visuals. Any critic will tell you that those don't make a movie. This is not even mentioning the fact that Vanilla Sky is a copy. You have to give most of the credit to the rich story.
I still say Keanu Reeves Constantine movie is the best, I ever seen when I was young even to this day still amazing, I don't care how many people say how bad it is.... It good to my eyes👍
Yin Yang if you watch it as a hellblazer fan you will have a badtime but if you watch it as someone who dont know the dc comic then u will see it as a good movie . So it really depends on the person
Roger Ebert really was way more forgiving and supportive of fantasy and sci-fi films than when what a lot younger people these days accused him of otherwise, probably because he's the only film critic they can name offhand.
There's something overtly, or covertly spiritual about all of Denzel Washington's movies. Even the ones where you might at first not see it. He's a devote Christian. I love him in every role he's ever played, plus he's a great human.
I always felt it was the religious angle at the end that pissed off critics, they tend to have a pretty anti religious bias imo. If the film makers had swapped the Bible for Merriam-Webster or something like that I feel they would have rated it much higher. It had good suspense, a nice plot, great action, good pacing, and the dark washed out colors worked since it was a post nuclear desert.
Yep. I wasn't surprised that a couple of my favorites were positively reviewed by Roger Ebert. I think he was the only mainstream critic who understood and appreciated science fiction for what it is.
sort of. It was looked down at by some critics because it was a Hollywood remake of "Abre Los Ojos". I disagree with them, because being a remake of a foreign movie doesn't automatically make it bad. Vanilla Sky is one of the good examples.
Thank Y'all for including "the Hunted" (one of my all time favorite movies) The writers/producers did an excellent job in merging what you see/what's really going on..becoming a movie more about perception..and it works both ways. Most people see Del Toro as a PTSD ridden Phsycopath seeing everyone as a threat trying to "sweep" him because of what he has Saw/Done for the Gov't as a Black Ops assassin..but in truth , everyone he kills IS trying to Kill him....and His Former Teacher KNOWS this. Hollywood doesn't like movies that make you use your Head... As a Retired Extreme Survival Instructor, I loved the Survival , Trackin skills used( yes it was over the top but at least the skills were based on some truth) an as a Hard Use Knife Designer, I especially loved that the film is a "minimalistic" , up close& personal Knife Users Movie.. also thanks for including "the Knowing " and " the book of Eli" ... 2 more EXCELLENT movies😉 Conclusion, 2 middle fingers up for "hOllyWoOD" 2 thumbs up and 1 Hell yea for Looper 💯🎸🖤🤠
I know many people would disagree, but I’d say War of the Worlds (2005). Focusing on a single perspective of a civilian was an interesting change from the previous War of the Worlds film and the book.
"Focusing on a single perspective of a civilian was an interesting change from the previous War of the Worlds film and the book."????????? have you read the book? because that is exactly what happens in the book. you follw the events though the eyes of the unnamed character. as he is ment to represent you.
Koba Maybe my wording wasn't the best. The "change" I was trying to say was that it was limited to a single perspective. While the book (and the original movie) focuses on the main ordinary man, it also provides enough information from the military's perspective, so that we understand exactly what was going on in larger scale. And it does a great job comparing the difference between these perspectives. In the newer film, we are given the same limited knowledge the main guy gets. I wouldn't say one approach is better than the other, since I really liked the book and both of the movies.
Constatine was a very cool movie. I never read the comic, so I didn't have any expectations going into it. Maybe fans of the comic were disappointed it was exactly the same, but it was still a pretty good movie.
I agree. Knowing is an absolute favourite of mine. Critics don't like it? I CANNOT for the life of me think why!! It's got mystery, tension, special effects (the good type), a great story line, emotion, and a thought provoking ending. How much more do critics want in a movie?!
@@andrewsplace1966 probably is the air they breath when writing reviews. It's a mystery really, maybe if they stepped outside their small circles. A great movie !!
Book of Eli has just some purely amazing moments. The gunplay is awesome, plus quoting scripture before laying down some dudes is just BA, no matter what you believe. And the revelation about Eli? Classic.
The Thing may be loved by many now, but it was absolutely hated by critics when released in theaters. Same for Blade Runner. Both films are absolutely amazing.
I loved "knowing". It is one of the very few sci-fis where the protagonist neither accepts and believes everything happening around him is destined or magical blatantly, nor does he ignores and denies the facts and science behind those happenings. He is calm and he collects evidence to understand whats going on and then he finally presents them to his colleague once he is sure enough. Like a true scientist would do. Not many directors portray a scientist like this.
I agree with your picks, those movies were much better than they were given credit for, & it says something that Ebert was ahead of the curve on many of them!
+BartJ583 I always felt the same about him, but the one pleace I gotta give him credit, is he is honest that he steals from everyone. not an original thought in his giant head
the problem with constantine wasn't that it was a terrible movie, it was that the writer had no idea about the material they copied it off of. They tried to make DC's character Constantine movie which was extremely different than the film. The film as a standalone with no relation to DC character is great, but if you consider the source material, the writers butchered it. They should've renamed the character and the movie title and everything would've been fine.
The Thing 1982 could have made this list, it didn’t do too well when it came out but has since become regarded as a great horror film. I tend to remember when the critics get it wrong the other way - highly praising a movie, which when turns out to be not so good when audiences actually go to see it. That is what made me cynical about critic ratings.
@rockn roll The critter scenes in The Thing are universally praised as ground breaking. The film also had an honest budget for the time and they didn't have to rush filming as they had plenty of time. A lot og CGI and practical effects even today look shoddy in comparison. I recommend watching the behind the scenes and listening to the commentary track by Carpenter and Russel. They provide great insight into the making of a classic.
@rockn roll Which 'The Thing' are you referring to - it cannot be the 1982 version! 'Alien scenes'? There were no 'alien scenes' - 'The Thing' took on the appearance of its host - albeit in grotesque fashion. 'More quality'? You are joking, right? 1982's 'The Thing's effects are fantastic beyond belief - universally acknowledged as such. 'Less silly'? The effects are neither silly nor the premise of the movie - it is one of unrelenting foreboding and dread.
I love how Roger Ebert was one of the few critics who actually liked these moves. That was one of the things I loved about going to his website, I found gems like "The Cell" and "Knowing" and I probably wouldn't have watched them if I hadn't read his reviews.
Yeah, I don't always agree with him, but 90% of the time if he's the only big critic who liked a movie I know I'll probably like it. Cloud Atlas comes to mind, it isn't a perfect movie by any means but I and a lot of other people really enjoy it, I remember him sticking up for it.
Ebert argued hard for the merits of Proyas's Dark City, and even laid down one of I believe only 2 commentary tracks he ever did for that movie (the other was My neighbor Totoro).
He did one for Citizen Kane too (at least I remember that one). As for Ebert championing movies: I agree he had his unique voice. Even if sometimes I strongly disagreed with him (Fight Club, Starship Troopers for example) I appreciated his singular dedication and also that his ego wasn't inflated so he could revise his opinion on films he previously panned - Blade Runner comes to mind.
Knowing is one of Nicolas Cage’s best movies. Also, if you haven’t seen Mandy, go watch it. It’s not for everyone, but oh man, what a fascinating film.
I have never read a review before seeing a movie, and I never will. Not letting someone else's opinion enter even slightly into my brain. It's confusing enough in there.
Many people watch Starship Troopers incorrectly. Consider that the society is basically a fascist dictatorship. How do you keep people from focusing on problems at home? Have (or invent) an enemy to fight. Some "other' to blame for all your problems. Watch again through this lens. All we ever see is bugs defending themselves against an onslaught. We only believe that the asteroid is sent by the bugs (to destroy Buenos Ares) because that's what we are told. Where did you see where the bugs were interplanetary travelers? Did you ever see any technology that would allow them to launch an asteroid on a collision course with earth? The soldiers never question any of this. Also, the film is criticized because the young pretty actors are basically cannon fodder. But that is the whole point. The fascist regime isn't interested in winning the war. It could care less whether its soldiers are under-equipped. War as status-quo is the goal.
GH3KKO GARDENER you need to see the Starship Troopers Invasion to better understand Traitor of Mars. It came out in 2012. Both are rather good for Starship Trooper movies.
some movies aren't for the simple. Starship Troopers was a political sati... you know what, you don't worry your little brain about it. Now run along and watch your Transformers movies.
Jesper Kruuse-Jensen Paul Verhoven didn't read the book so he made more of a satire of fascism rather than a story of self sacrifice, which the book is about.
In what world? Hollywood, that’s where. Remember, Hollywood accounting can make any result look like a loser, even if it’s the highest-grossing picture of all time! That’s how Mario Puzo got nothing from “The Godfather”, he signed for a piece of the “net” instead of the “gross”, and he got bupkis. Same thing happened in “Forest Gump”. On the books, the studio made no money from it.
@@FastEddy1959 Nice summary. Please also be aware that the “budget” or “production cost” does NOT include “promotion” and “advertising” costs, which can be enormous. For a film with an average-sized budget, the promotion and advertising costs are typically half that of the production (so a film with a “budget” of $100 million can have a net cost of $150 million). In some cases, the promotion and advertising budget can actually EXCEED the “budget” or “production cost”

BohemianAsh , it will be the only movie of his I will ever own. My daughter likes his comedies but I like this movie more. It shows what really happened during that dark time in history.
Yeah moon wasnt hated by critics so not for this list, great movie just didnt get any advertisement being so low budget, its one of them films you're more likely to just stumble on to or pick up as a random dvd.
Of these, I've seen The Cell, Knowing, and The Book of Eli, and can confirm that they're all hot garbage. Knowing is probably the worst of the bunch, with the entire series of events in the film being entirely superfluous given the premise, rendering the entire experience pointless. The plane crash is the only scene in the entire film worth seeing.
Critics hate certain actors, loathe particular genres, but love their personal spite more than anything else and it's why many films don't stand a chance even before they watch them..
I LOVED "Book of Eli". Funny story: I was talking about the movie at church. One of the older ladies asked some questions about it. I mentioned how I loved it, but how it IS rather violent and profane. She actually rented it that week...and loved it, too!
That is awesome! I can just see an elderly lady, who probably wouldn't say a cuss word if her life depended on it, watching it. I really love the movie myself.
I really liked it too, and mentioned it to my friend, whose tastes tend to run polar opposite to mine (as does her religion, her politics, her child-rearing philosophy...) and she also loved it. It's deep.
I took everyone I know to see Bookof Eli, and always my treat. What a cool movie anyone would have to watch at least twice to catch most of the meaning. Denzel has never been better. It’s not what you think.

I thought this had the best Satan character of any movie I’ve ever seen
Jeff Barrett : I couldn’t agree more! Every time that I watch him appear, I’m so glad he’s not there for me!
The book of Eli and Constantine were fantastic movies! Never knew they did poorly
I don't understand why so many did not like Constantine. It seemed solid too me.
Messy screenplay and rather a poor plot, otherwise it was good.
The idea was good, and would have been better if they hadn't relied on the special effects so much. The story would have been a lot better had it been better developed and less emphasis on the effects that made it appear cheesy. That's just my opinion though.
Possibly because America has the biggest number of faux christians that think that anything that puts Angels and god in a bad light is bad.
keanu reeves is the worst actor ever to work in Hollywood...maybe that's a clue.
Morbus. No he isn't.
Constantine and Book of Eli, both, are amazing.
I remember when i saw BoE the first time i was like "man this looks like real life Fallout 3!"
well no wonder since the same guys are behind the set design! loved the ambiance! movie/story itself..
Like I said you just couldn't enjoy the movie because you fail to grasp human nature.
yeah let's give to survivors a bigger cancer then a nuclear winter: religion.
@SlyDragonWolf yeah and the movie basically says that religion is like the most important thing to preserve, well, that's bullshit
I really can't believe The Book of Eli was poorly reviewed. It really is an amazing movie. A bit far-fetched, but an excellent story.
The Book of Eli is one of my all time favorite movies.
The Cell and Constantine were absolutely beautiful, both very different takes on the genre. Definite cult classic.
Constantine, Knowing and The Book Of Eli are awesome.
GRAPHIC J Do you think it would work without Eli?
I was about to write this but you beat me to it. These movies should not be on this list.
I only learned now that constantine was a flop? WTF. It was one of the best movies ever. I've watched it so many times. How!?
@@GraphicJ
Ok , but I would say the film would have to be a "prequel" . What took place prior to what was leading up to where the first film began .
@@sergiosaunier The first Book of Eli would have worked better without Eli - Washington just playing the same character AGAIN for the Nth time. SO boring.
I don't get the hate towards Constantine. Seriously one of the best supernatural flicks out there.
Mostly people who hated it were pissed because Constantine wasn't Sting.
So true, positively great!
It was boring
I really liked The Cell, The Book of Eli and Constantine. Sometimes I think critics overanalyze things. The Cell and Constantine were visually stunning
If youre into tight leather clothes and taking it from behind
Constantine was good. I don't care what other people say
u also dont seem to care what other ppl write , otherwise u would have just upvoted a "constantine was good" post instead of being the 800 comment posting the same shit
SkoRagaros i didnt see the comments before i commented
One movie I always recommend that was not exactly loved was Lucky Number Slevin. That plot twist at the end....damn
Damn straight........The Kansas City Shuffle!!
Damn Straight. Ben Kingsley did a video with GQ about his most iconic roles and "The Rabbi" wasn't on there. WTF?

I guess I have bad taste in movies because I love Constantine, Book of Eli, The Knowing and The Cell.
Also love Skeleton Key.
Me too
Ditto, and firgot about skeleton key. Great movie.
i confirm, the knowing is so bad, you have a bad taste...
Jacob's Ladder
The Knowing is a good movie up until the very end ... that was cringe
I really liked The League of Extraordinary Gentleman with Sean Connery and the reviews were awful
That is a fun movie. Agreed. Might be to early to remake... Considering when it was made. I bet it could be..., well not trying to take anything away from the orginal but... Yeah, Combining those characters on a new adventure is a joyride i'd like to ride ounce again. Good call.
Wat
I liked it too! I thought I just must be bad at watching movies.
In my opinion it is better than the Avengers.
The Cell, Constatine and Knowing are of a handful of movies that I'll watch multiple times. You can't deny that these movies are entertaining. The critics REALLY need to get out of their heads sometimes...
Fitzina Simmonia *The only problem on The Cell is that JLo is not the best actress in there, but her acting is better than "Gilly"*
I think knowing so good movie with a bad ending...
Knowing has got to be one of the worst Sci-fi films of all time.
I don't get it. What do y'all like so much about the Knowing?
I mean sure, the inicial idea is interesting, but that's pretty much it.
I love Constantine, it's fabulous. I've watched it many times.
Abdul Wadood Safa me too. Love Keanu. 😁
Abdul Wadood Safa I remember thinking it was boring the first time i watched it, then okay the second time, then straight up entertaining by the third and fourth.
Yep. Great song in it, too. Passive - A Perfect Circle
constantine is grossly underrated.. the cinematography is oscar worthy..
It is so good. That movie made me love Tilda Swinton
I love Constantine, I watch it like twice a year. It's great.
Queen Geek agreedddd
It was definately a solid movie.

This makes me happy.
I loved Constantine and Knowing too
I loved Constantine. One of the best supernatural movies ever.

Absolutely Loved “Constantine”; Also Thought
“Fallen” was UnderRated, Too !!
+1 on "Fallen"
fallen is a great movie, was it ever considered bad though?
Constantine is an excellent movie. I usually don’t watch these type films yet this is great. I have the blu ray and I watch it whenever it comes on regular TV. The regular ending is really good and so is the alternate ending.
Fallen is very very good
The knowing was amazing, it kept you on your seat throughout the whole film and Nicholas cage is very unappreciated.
I loved Constantine.
Constantine is one of my all-time favs.
How about the opposite: Critically praised movies that are actually crap?
PennyAfNorberg Emoji movie
The Birdman thing. And this new movie with the highest score ever on the Rotten tomatoes
I add tinker tailor soldier spy myself
The Cabin in the Woods, Thor, Avengers, Birdman, Lincoln, Dunkirk
Inception
the book of eli was incredible, highly underrated like so many others that go against hollywood elite and do their own thing
Vanilla sky blew me away and then i found out later that everyone hated it. i never understood that.
ya same i loved that movie had a great twist
It's because the original 1998 Spanish movie is sooooooooooooooo much better. Penélope Cruz plays the same character.
Lots of layers to that film
You have to give most of the credit to the rich story.
youre on point on Constantine
I find Kurt Russel's "soldier" entertaining.
Agreed.

I think it takes more grief than it should. It's also the "other" movie by PW Anderson that's any good.

Event Horizon and Reign of Fire
Loved Reign of Fire.
event horizon wasnt bad
Event horizon boy, this Film was pretty amazing und scary at the same time. Still one of the scariest movies for me.
Event horizon is terrifying.
👍🏽
Roger Ebert really was way more forgiving and supportive of fantasy and sci-fi films than when what a lot younger people these days accused him of otherwise, probably because he's the only film critic they can name offhand.
The Book of Eli is one of my favorites, love the Mad Max style combined with a religious plot and interesting twist.
Really? Constantine? Loved that movie.
Christian Carpeso i didn't get why its bad its awsome
I LOVED BOOK OF ELI
Wait... critics hated these?!
Yep. I wasn't surprised that a couple of my favorites were positively reviewed by Roger Ebert. I think he was the only mainstream critic who understood and appreciated science fiction for what it is.
some “big voice” critics are just wack. we’ll just leave it at that.
Pretty sure Vanilla Sky was well reviewed
sort of. It was looked down at by some critics because it was a Hollywood remake of "Abre Los Ojos". I disagree with them, because being a remake of a foreign movie doesn't automatically make it bad. Vanilla Sky is one of the good examples.
The Nostalgia Critic hates The Cell, that's for sure!
2 more EXCELLENT movies😉
Conclusion,
2 middle fingers up for "hOllyWoOD"
2 thumbs up and 1 Hell yea for Looper

I know many people would disagree, but I’d say War of the Worlds (2005).
Focusing on a single perspective of a civilian was an interesting change from the previous War of the Worlds film and the book.
帆立😴😴😐😐
帆立 wait what? Disagree!!! It's it's a amazing movie. did ppl actually not like it? It's gotta be one of my most watched movies.
That movie was critically pretty well received though. And deservedly so!
Constatine was a very cool movie. I never read the comic, so I didn't have any expectations going into it. Maybe fans of the comic were disappointed it was exactly the same, but it was still a pretty good movie.
THANK YOU FOR INCLUDING CONSTANTINE i adore that movie so much.
Max Webster: you are so right, it is really great!
"Knowing" is an awesome movie!!
awesome movie
A great movie !!
really the pretence is awesomely shite - it so bad - come on brah, half the movie spends it time looking at red herrings , like 33 EE........... lmfao
DREDD, very underrated and a really badass movie
I love Dredd. It received positive reviews, though.
I liked Dredd, but the film totally underused Karl Urban. He has a very expressive face, which they kept mostly covered. A total waste of his talent.
Mark Kesseler Karl Urban wanted to stay true to the comics and keep the helmet on at all times.
It's a shame it never got a bigger audience especially as it's the best use of 3d I've yet seen.
It had a terrible international release.... I didnt know Dredd existed until I saw it for sale as a DVD (Ireland)
Book of Eli has just some purely amazing moments. The gunplay is awesome, plus quoting scripture before laying down some dudes is just BA, no matter what you believe. And the revelation about Eli? Classic.
I've been recommending the hunted for yrs
Izzy SoDope *It's an awesome movie, the same with THE RECRUIT*
Izzy SoDope Yeah Hunted was awesome.
I remember watching The Cell and being blown away. It was such a concept, beautiful, and frightening at the same time.
The fact that Eli was visually impaired makes the movie even better. ❤️
He wasn't visually impaired, he could read brail.
The Thing may be loved by many now, but it was absolutely hated by critics when released in theaters. Same for Blade Runner. Both films are absolutely amazing.
BT was NOT hated by critics .... far from it. It did not do well at the box office nor did the sequel.
Same with Terminator
Nautilus,same with TRON(both parts)
The Thing is my fav sci fi horror movie alongside Event Horizon.
Constantine, Gabriel and Luc were performances of a lifetime. Great script, casting and staging. Who listens to critics...most of the time.
"Knowing" and "Book of Eli." Good call.
I like Knowing a lot.
Knowing so bad. The whole me and my buddy kept looking at each other going "nah it cant be aliens, that would be dumb...." then it happened...
Naw Book of Eli was crap... Another movie one man kills a bunch of people... How original lol 😂
The "twist" in Book Of Eli was great.
Yep, both of those are good ones. Really though BoE was interesting take on some things. And yes, that ending was good.
I agree with your picks, those movies were much better than they were given credit for, & it says something that Ebert was ahead of the curve on many of them!
phxbillcee he also hated clockwork orange, godfather 2 and reservoir dogs and liked gigli
BartJ583 yes it is
+BartJ583 I always felt the same about him, but the one pleace I gotta give him credit, is he is honest that he steals from everyone. not an original thought in his giant head
He didn't like Blade Runner, that alone makes all of his opinions worthless

I think that one did well
that movie felt like a rerun of Blow with guns instead of cocaine. i liked it.
very good movie and original too.
I always liked Constantine since release, and probably more from this video.
the problem with constantine wasn't that it was a terrible movie, it was that the writer had no idea about the material they copied it off of. They tried to make DC's character Constantine movie which was extremely different than the film. The film as a standalone with no relation to DC character is great, but if you consider the source material, the writers butchered it. They should've renamed the character and the movie title and everything would've been fine.
Constantine was a great movie but it should've never been associated with Hellblazer
The book of Eli is also a good movie
it's the worst film ever made
Rupesh Patel I agree, Eli was a blind man, with strong faith and convictions. IMO a great character.
How about the reversed question: Critically Loved Movies That Are Actually Bad
I still haven't understood the praise for Top Gun and Titanic.

Birdman would have to be number 1
guardians of the galaxies
Hunger Games. You will not change my opinion!
Thank you for mentioning "Constantine". It's one of my favorite Keanu films. I've never understood why people didn't like it.
People are stupid. Really though...
Of these i've watch Knowing, Coinstatine and Vanilla Sky, all three are excellent.
Constantine in particular is way better than it's given credit for.
I love how Roger Ebert was one of the few critics who actually liked these moves. That was one of the things I loved about going to his website, I found gems like "The Cell" and "Knowing" and I probably wouldn't have watched them if I hadn't read his reviews.
Ben Schinkel he's not afraid to have his own voice. Ebert is the best for a reason.
Mandy was awesome!
Agree, fascinating film
Knowing is my favorite disaster movie
Bro...mandy was an amazing movie to watch. Joe was also super underrated
Mandy was crap
I have never read a review before seeing a movie, and I never will.
Not letting someone else's opinion enter even slightly into my brain.
It's confusing enough in there.
Agree on the picks but where is Starship Troopers? That film got completely hammered by critics and today its a cult sci-fi movie.
it's in the garbage, where it belongs
Still waiting for Constantine 2
AWESOME MOVIE!!!!
constantine earned 230 mn on a 100 mn budget, in what world is that losing money ?
they did say "domestically"
Not if I got the point of this vid but these are films that the critics hated, but not necessarily box office bombs
I couldnt agree more. Book of Eli, Majestic, Constantine, Knowing....? Those are the best movies that should be on Netflix.

The Hunted got some of the best knife fighting in all of movie history.
Watch "The Raid". You won't regret it.
It's deep.
SEVERELY underrate movie. A great plot with an unexpected twist at the end
I took everyone I know to see Bookof Eli, and always my treat. What a cool movie anyone would have to watch at least twice to catch most of the meaning. Denzel has never been better. It’s not what you think.
I loved Constantine... I have watched it several times since it came out.
