I worked on Tokyo Drift. We did all the CG cars. Note that ALL the actions the cars did, could have been done by the incredible drivers they had, but we were forced to create CG cars because of Laws in Japan. Certain areas were not allowed to be film on/blocked off, and others were considered to dangerous to film, even after stunt drives proved they could do the action multiple times without fail. The director could tell a driver, "We need you to drift 1 foot closer to this pole" and the drive could nail it next run. They were THAT good.
I remember Ridley Scott talking about all the trouble he had filming "Black Rain," with red tape and at one point an official blocking the camera mid-take the very moment the allotted time had run out. The final shootout ended up being shot in California because there were so many problems, so having to use CG rather than real cars isn't surprising.
Aside from the first movie, Tokyo Drift is my favorite movie of the series. The cars were amazing. You guys did great and the movie didn’t deserve the hate it got
I love that movie but love Dracula: Dead and Loving It more. As Men in Tights does have something of a cult following, I feel that Dead and Loving it is even more massively underappreciated. It's funny, atmospheric, and a great homage to various Dracula films, including the obscure but faithful 1970s BBC version.
Kung Pow wasn't even trying to be good. It was purposefully bad, that was the point. Never paid attention to rotten tomatoes to give me my opinions. Seems like that has been a good choice
That scene in TMNT, when The Foot Clan soldier strikes the power cable and sets April’s apartment on fire, epic; that music changes and you realize this isn’t just a kids movie and there are real stakes.
A Knight's Tale is so great! There are a few scenes that were cut, that should never have been cut; scenes which give the supporting characters more depth and clearer motivations. Also, Kung Pow is a laugh riot! I saw it in the theater, and absolutely busted a gut. So many laugh out loud moments.
I watched it at a special sneak peak at msu, and to make sure no one had a way to record it, it took like 2 hours to get into the theater...i which probably contributed to me not enjoying it lol.
last action hero is S tier. Peak era Arnold, excellent action and production, very ahead of its time and meta turn to the storyline. The critics weren't ready for it, but it deserves reevaluation.
TMNT, Saw, Godzilla KOTM, A Knights Tale, Sister Act 2, Chronicles of Riddick and Tokyo Drift all get regular play in my house. I had no idea they were all frowned upon. Just good wholesome enjoyable movies to me and I feel no guilt about declaring that to the world!
I agree with you 100% Microsoft is currently in development on another live action movie and a cartoon. I can't wait. I loved the movie no matter what the critics said. American's just didn't show up in the theatre to support it.
Legend is my all time favorite movie, it has been since I saw it as a kid, and I love it even more now. Everything from the acting, story, special effects, and music is amazing. It's a timeless movie that will never be dated.
The TMNT and the first Mortal Kombat are my favorite guilty-pleasure childhood movies. You know, one goes for the Neverending Story of Labyrinth in public but I didn't watch those on the cinema, but I went to see TMNT and MK, and my childhood was immensely better for it.
Tim Curry wasn't playing Satan. He was playing Darkness. The literal personification of darkness. Basically an anthropomorphic version of the Red Bull from The Last Unicorn.
That's why I wonder if he's even seen any of these movies or just reading some AI script. I noticed certain details he got wrong on some of the other movies as well.
Things you learn as a media analyst specializing in movies is that most film critics are movie school people, which means they have fairly narrow definitions of what makes a good movie, meanwhile the public actually watches movies for enjoyment and not because they couldn't find a niche in said movie industry outside of criticism. This is why movies that adhere to the Kubrick Rubrick or the Spielberg iceberg get higher criticism ratings even if the public absolutely loathes the movie. Lots of film makers loved the movies of the late 70s early 80s and 90s, and they keep making them without knowing what actually made the movies so memorable. Kinda like tracing an artists drawings and not realizing why your drawings aren't as loved.
Pitch Black is the best of the Riddick movies, imo. I didn't hate the sequels, I just liked Riddick better in a pure sci-fi setting without the fantasy elements introduced in the middle movie.
The more i think about it, these films are not “good” by film acting standards. These are all innovative and insanely well designed films. My parents may as well be officianados of a certain quality of fun films
Man I LOVE TMNT the movie. I still love all 3 of them and I ain't changing my mind. I also love the Mummy movies as well. Ain't changing my mind on that too. And National Treasure deserves a 3rd movie.
Spaceballs is such a wonderful film that it's hard to imagine it didn't do better at the theaters. You know it's good when the George Lucas praises it. Pure genius.
Tokyo Drift was my favorite F&F movie. Something about how it takes a kid out of his element and throws him into this new underground that he does not understand. From the main character knowing nothing about drifting to becoming a great drifter to win was a great ride. The First TNMNT will never be duplicated or done better in my opinion. Such a great movie glad they stuck more to a movie that appealed to both kids and adults. I still watch it today. The first two mummy movies were great even with the rocks bad cgi. I loved these two movies like a more mythical indiana jones. Space balls will always be one of my favorite movies and often quoted.
Travis Fimmel's over-acting in Warcraft is phenomenal. It's not overt enough to take you out of scenes, but paying special attention to his character makes the movie much more enjoyable.
Am I wrong for laughing when in Final Destination, the girl was having a breakdown, stepped in the street, and got hit by a bus? It was definitely a Wild E Coyote moment !😂😂😂
I had to triple check to make sure I was watching the channel I thought I was. Having an actual human, someone who feels like a movie enthusiast, feels much more personable.
The Mummy Returns was actually good but it felt a little too familiar. Not different enough to make regular fans wanna see it, only heavy duty fans of the first movie. Spaceballs was just plain good and its a shame critics and viewers felt the unnecessary need to compare it to every other Mel Brooks film instead of just enjoying it. Empire Records is also great and again people felt the need to compare it other teen flicks of the era, when they could have just watched it and enjoyed it.
I Love every one of these movies, I had no idea they didn't do good in the theatres. For me Tokyo Drift is the best Fast movie, that Monte Carlo is my absolute favorite car of the whole series.

King of the Monsters is so good. Especially the scene where Rodan comes from the volcano and the sheer force from him flying over the town just gets destroyed
King of the Monsters ... yeah. I'm a Japanese rubber suit monster lover from waaaaay back. I thought it made sense. The second Mummy movie, kick ass. Kind of helps when you have a good friend who looked just like Oded Fehr. He was confused when we called him after seeing the first movie and chastised him for not telling us he was starring in a movie.
One of my favorites - Boondock Saints, get a 26% critic and a 91% audience rating. Is it a great movie? Not in the least! But it's entertaining, and Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus have excellent chemistry.
Are there any other movies you would recommend?
Man of Steel and Batman v Superman
Highlander
Personally I liked Saw 2 better than Saw one. Saw films have been up and down imo.
Step Brothers was awesome

Oh and the part with his dad makes me blubber every time. Lol Great film I like it as well.

Tokyo Drift has some of the best driving sequences committed to film at the time
Agreed! The vast majority of the driving was practically done with some exceptions like the wide shot mountain drive scene.
Loved the fact it was set in Japan too 👍🏿
Unfortunately it had that marble-mouthed goon as the lead. Whoever cast that clown should never work in Hollywood again.
That opening scène with the viper is still the best one of them all.
There were a couple of older Japanese men fishing and watching the races. One of them was actually the "drift stunt driver"
Empire Records is an excellent movie. Thanks!
Damn the man! SAVE the Empire! 🤘😁🤘
Imo, the "Remix" version they came out with several years later is a far stronger presentation.
Id add the Last Action Hero. It also rocks
I couldn't agree more. If you don't take it seriously and just switch off your brain and enjoy the insanity, you'll have a grand old time!
Great shout🤘
last action hero is S tier. Peak era Arnold, excellent action and production, very ahead of its time and meta turn to the storyline. The critics weren't ready for it, but it deserves reevaluation.
Gotta disagree on this one lol. I remember seeing that in the theater as a kid. Literally three people and a random cat in the theater lol. So bad.
Agreed. Looking back at Arnold's career, at least in the 90s, it seemed like he got punished for taking risks. Underappreciated majorly.

It's been one of my favorites since I was a kid also, Labyrinth,Back to the Future,Robocop, and a few others that I can't think of at the moment
That is the only film that ever creeped me out as a kid. I don't think I could get through Tim Currys character now and I'm 40.
I saw Legend at the theater. It was a disappointment besides Tim Curry and the make up team which made the viewing entirely worth it.
The most terrifying thing in that movie was the swamp witch character. Absolutely freaky.
A good chunk of these movies live in a happy place in my memories! Goes to show some things are better with time
