Ya, but dude, she looked amazing in Body Of Evidence. She had a little meat on her at the time and that was when she was sporting the blond hair. Holy hell those ( . )( . ) in that movie. The best she ever looked. Who cares about the story!
With regards to Jem, it wasn't simply that the movie was almost nothing like the source material (though that was a HUGE part of why it failed). It also wasn't helped by the fact that the trailer made is incredibly clear that it had nothing significant to do with the source material. Also, the writing was dumb, it was filled with cutaways to random RUclips videos for no apparent reason, and most insulting of all, the credits used fan-submitted footage. The creative team, all men (not exactly a good sign for a girl-centered cartoon like this) had a contest where they asked fans to submit videos talking about what Jem meant to them, and that they might have input in the movie. Turns out, it was a lie meant as a publicity stunt. But they took that footage and edited it in such a way to make it sound like the people, little kids and adults alike, male and female, were talking about the Jem in the MOVIE and not the cartoon they loved so very much. and the creators didn't even bother putting much effort in their ruse, because it was incredibly obvious from the videos that they were talking about the original. I'm fairly certain that when THAT revoltingly calculated and disgustingly manipulative piece of information got out to the public, whatever possibility the movie had was dead on arrival.
I actually enjoyed the music, and I was a fan (albeit an adult fan) of the original cartoon, as did my husband and daughters. I liked the updates, the music was good, and if you REALLY watched the movie, you would know that the "random RUclips videos" were there FOR a reason. Also, the creator of the source cartoon cameoed as the reporter near the end, so it had her full support.
I actually watched it to see if it would be as bad as I expected, and it was. And that video submission montage bit was a HUGE slap in the face. That whole film production was poorly handled. Jon M. Chu is lucky that "Crazy Rich Asians" is doing as well as it has, because "Jem" should've killed his directorial career.
i dont get it either. if you decide to do a movie for an old TV show you have to understand your biggest potential target group is the (now older) target group from the original. adding other demographics can work but if you piss of the original fans you lose money.
Jem and the Holograms broke my heart. That was my favorite cartoon growing up but that movie was just a mess. It didn't follow the concept of the cartoon at all.
Know what the sad thing is? As bad as it was, it still made more money, and has a higher Rotten Tomatoes rating than the shitty 2015 Fantastic Four remake.
That movie was shit. Mostly didn't follow the premise of the animated series, the main antagonist was changed from a man to a woman, and didn't have their main rivals, The Misfits, until during the middle of the closing credits.
It's easier for me to understand why they are so safe and formulaic in what they will pay for, then why people in the US still go to see almost exclusively Hollywood movies. Even the people who complain about Hollywood. Why don't those who are more critical just watch something else? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me a thousand times, shame on... society? I don't know.
@@HereComesPopoBawa . Some of us actually do watch something else. China makes some great films. The Brits as well. Of my top three films, Roshoman, a Japanese film is second. Thank God, we have the IDW comic books. At least they feel like an actual rebooted series of Jem and the Holograms done right and is more faithful to the original animated series than this horse-shit of a live-action movie.
you know whats even worse. is that they tricked their fans. the producer and director posted that they are looking to cast the leads and that they want a video music audition. But what they did not mention is that they already had their leads and it was just a way to spread th word. if that's what they do to get the word out than you already know they aren't going to be true to the story.
What have we learned? If you make a film from an existing property, don't deviate too far from the source material and listen to what the fans would like to see.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. You already know what the fans want to see. a couple of tweaks, no problem, but seems like they used the title and a couple of character's names and went way the f--k off on tangents....
I don't think silent night deadly night was bad I think people thought it was too violent for a man dress as Santa Claus killing people at the time lol
I don’t think it was pulled because it was bad, but because there were so many groups against the movie and the film studio because it made Santa look like a villain.
Not only was Jem and the Holograms not faithful to the source material, it directly insulted the fans. The director offered the fans a chance to be in the movie, and all they had to do was film themselves saying why they loved Jem in order to “get the ball rolling”. But what he actually did was take the footage of their recordings and edited them to look like they are praising the Jem from the movie.
I think they succeeded brilliantly at presenting a story for a modern age. They didn’t have to mimic what was in the animated series or the original toy line. I think universal pictures made a huge mistake in the way they promoted this movie and in pulling it after only two weeks.
Totally missed "It's Pat" on this list. From the SNL character in the mid 90's. Opened in only three theaters and grossed $60,822 before being pulled. OUCH!!!
Oh, they didn't just "not stay true to the source material" for Jem. It's like they heard a concept based on a coloring book based off of Jem and threw RUclips in because "Isn't that cool? Kids LOVE RUclips." And thought that would go over well.
Michelle Moirai The movie wasn't good, but the youtubr criticism is not a legit one. The way RUclips was used in the movie makes complete sense and works perfectly, unless you're refering to the random videos, those were a little confusing.
The morons who marketed "Silent Night,Deadly Night" ran ads for it in prime time, when children could see them...that's what got people worked up. And it isn't even the first horror movie to feature a killer dressed as Santa Claus. AND it became a franchise!
Ok hold tf up on Silent Night Deadly Night. It wasn’t pulled because it bombed it’s because it was the 1980’s, and god forbid Santa be bad in the 1980’s. Keep in mind this was also the same decade where Sam Reimi was getting obscenity charges for The Evil Dead. I’ve seen Silent Night Deadly Night and it’s not really that bad. It’s the only decent film out of the 6 films
Great point. The "Moral Majority" had quite an influence in those days (the 80s were my childhood to late teens) An astounding level of censorship especially after the relatively bold and edgy 70s, all under Reagan's "new 50's" Sam Raimi facing obscenity charges. Jello Biafra brought in on obscenity charges after the FBI literally stormed his apartment. And today's 4chan alt right edgy kids get psycho sensitive over a youtuber getting his channel taken down for violating ToS... And scream as if today is somehow "the worst period of censorship ever". Completely clueless that they're fighting for the side that would clamp down on them harder than their perceived enemy - the evil, ominous (and still funnily undefined) "left" - if they were given the same absolute power they had in the 80s. Lol I say fuck em. They're dumb kids and they'll learn. It'll be a hard lesson for them but well deserved. Bunch of useless incels anyway...
I feel like some movie execs just don't get how horror movies work. For a horror movie to become a classic (like many other types of films) it has to be one of three things: 1. actually technically good 2. not technically that good, but still unique and engaging enough that its memorable 3. So bad in every sense of the word its a masterpiece. The worst thing a horror movie can be is forgettable. The just needed to market Silent Night Deadly Night as the off beat and eventually spectacularly bad (then boring then spectacularly bad again) franchise it would become...market it on off hours at times only young adults and high-school/university students are going to watch it...they're the ones that come out in droves to a horror movie even if it isn't a technical masterpiece. But instead they marketed to families...who's packing up their kids and taking them to see a low budget weird slasher?
Anne Grey not to mention the creative stalking of the villains. Today’s horror movies have outrageous kills that are unrealistic. Like microwaving someones head with the door open.... last I checked the microwave heats things with the door shut. 🙄😑
Studio execs need to make money therefore they go for whatever mass audience they can get. Not much money in late night theater showings anymore and the drive in is all but dead now. Direct to video (dvd, streaming) is the way to go with some of these. Box office showings in the opening weeks in the US don’t tell the whole story but it’s what the business is based on.
I should add because of looking for money making ventures things that ultimately became very popular can get rejected in the beginning. Nobody thought some space movie released in 1977 would be a blockbuster. Enough that George Lucas took a pay cut so he could own merchandising rights which has to be one of the smartest things he did. And years later various publishers rejected what they thought was a silly children’s book about a boy wizard. We all know how that turned out. And of course imitations of both those franchises are thrown up to the public hoping it will stick.
I'm a huge horror movie lover and did see Silent Night, Deadly Night back when it came out. Movie always stuck with me as I was a kid when I saw it. Fast forward about 15 years. It was December and I was going to my mom's for dinner one night. At the time she lived out in a pretty rural area. I was leaning into the car to unbuckle my daughter from her car seat and when I stood up I caught a flash of red in my peripheral vision. I slowly turned around and there was a guy dressed as Santa standing at the end of her driveway. I froze and he just stood there, swaying slightly before saying "Ho ho ho" and stepping towards me. I bolted into the house, locked the door and yelled for my mom to call the cops. I looked out the window to see where "Santa" was. There was Santa, laying face down in the middle of my mom's yard slowly getting covered in snow. Turns out it was her neighbor from about a mile down the road who had gotten more than a little tipsy from some eggnog and decided to go spread some drunken Christmas cheer. He's lucky he didn't get his ass shot because all I had running through my head was that damn movie.
I actually went to see Delgo in the theater. The voice acting cast was extensive and impressive but the animation style felt like a 90's video game cut scene. Story wise, it honestly wasn't all that bad. I don't see a lot of parallels with Avatar though, as there was already an animated 'Avatar' -esque film in existence which was far more 'Avatar' than Delgo, and it goes by the name of FernGully: The Last Rainforest, which I also happened to see in the theater.
I didn't see Delgo in theaters, but I totally agree. It actually wasn't that bad. I'm an animator myself and have trained myself to see more the work and passion that went into these movies than the money thrown at them. I thought the story and feel of the whole movie was pretty good. Not spectacular, but absolutely not horrible. Also FernGully is amazing and it was all I could think about when watching Avatar. Other than that Avatar was gorgeous and the villain was basically a cardboard cut out.
I saw Delgo on DVD. It wasn't the greatest film of all Time or anything, but it was far from a bad film. It was quiet enjoyable and had likable enough characters and a decent if predictable story. It was a fun afternoon watch. It doesn't deserve the Hatred.
Misleading : Uwe Boll was NOT the "go to" guy for video game movies. Uwe Boll was the guy who bought a shit ton of video game property licenses and then made THE. WORST. MOVIES out of them. He took "House Of The Dead" and removed the house part, and made it an island rave. Awful, simply awful. (He also boxed his critics - something that still doesn't redeem the fact his movies are awful - some entertainingly so, but still awful)
Ok, but if you're going to bank on fondly remembered TV shows and movies DO NOT CHANGE THE ENITRE PLOT LINE (cough Jem and the Holograms) and turn it into to something with a name we recognize and a storyline we can't freaking follow. I was SO STOKED for this movie and saw like 5 min before I gave up
Silent Night Deadly Night is great! We need more Christmas horror films. Jem was doomed before it even released. The plot and style of the film was already known before hand and everyone wrote it off since it was literally nothing like the cartoon. The lesson learned is don't put your own spin on IP people already enjoy and have expectations for.
"It's Pat" ought ought to be on the list, it was a one-joke movie and the joke wasn't even funny, it ran only at the theater in star's home town and was pulled from even that after a week.
Too many ad breaks for the length of the video and they're ALL poorly-timed. Every damn one stepped on the voiceover. You're making it harder to justify not using an ad-blocker.

When you showed a clip from *The Nightmare Before Christmas* ,I feared it would be on this list. When it originally opened, the theater I saw it at only had it for two weeks...the second of which they'd moved it into a much smaller theater. And all the merchandise you can buy these days didn't come along until many years later.

Do you do no research before you make these? That clip with the car is from Silent Night Deadly NIght 2 NOT the first one. The first one is actually quite good for a slasher as well worth a watch if you like those 80s slashers.
I mean the first one wasn't awful just a basic slasher. I do agree that the second one is crap and is only remembered for the Garbage Day line but the first 40min is a retelling of the first which is quite bad.
@@akiraslayer7934 so they just rehashed or played the same footage? That sounds like something the Laid To Rest series would do. I just wish that if people were going to revisit a tired genre that they'd do something new with it. Most people watching this probably won't bother to see either.
Funny how silent night, deadly night garnered enough attention for a sequel and spawn the infamous line “GARBAGE DAY!” Also, Avatar ripped off the MUCH superior Battle for Terra, never forget!
Successful enough to have die hards watching several flicks even if theyre bad theyre not united passions bad so people will return just like transformers
That's a bad movie that gets some love. It was a passion project from a new studio, and while watching it, you knew this is the last time the old gang was getting together. There's just a certain charm to it. There are bad films where you can still respect it, i.e. an actor giving their all in a horrible film (Denzel in John Q), or maybe an important message but terrible execution (Ben & Arthur). In Superman 4, it was the end of an era. I will always rank Superman 3 as the worst.
Don't forget Heaven's Gate, a Western movie epic that ran for one week in 1980 earning $3.5 million on a $44 million budget (quadruple the original budget for the film), destroyed the reputation of Michael Cimino who had just won the Oscar the previous year for directing The Deer Hunter, bankrupted United Artists leading to them being swallowed up by MGM, and basically brought an end to the auteur director era of the the 1970s.
Patrick- all anyone cares about any more is money. They get money to run ads or they're gonna get it from you by charging you to block them. I miss the simpler days. I even saw an ad on the Amazon app the other day but at least they're only advertising their stuff lol
I love Silent Night Deadly Night. I actually saw it the first time it was released. My issue is that it was on this list and had clips from the sequel. The film was re-released the following year though.
For movies that refuse to stay true to the source that people love, I wonder how the movies would have done if they just never attached themselves to a known source. Like if Jem and the Holograms changed their name, but otherwise was almost the same move, no reference of any kind to the cartoon Jem and the Holograms, just a move about a girl band; probably would have done better since it wouldn't have been slamed for knowingly ignoring the fans.
Another movie that really irritated me and the film makers insulted the intelligence of it's fans was Super Mario Bros. The film had very little to do with the game and was horrible. It didn't last long in theaters, either. In fact, star the late Bob Hoskins said that he regretted doing the movie.
Silent Night shouldn't be on here, since it wasn't pulled for its quality, but rather the controversy surrounding its premise. Also, the clips shown in this video confuse the first and second movies in the franchise.
Both don't originate as video games though. But if your argument was not all video games from movies (or graphic novels in Scott Pilgrim's case) are bad, then I second your comment.
Never heard of any of these movies. And wow Delgo has a terrible name and even worse CGI effects even for 2008. Seen low budget kids TV with better graphics....
@Molly Misandrist Disney Star Wars movies are garbage, The prequels sucked too besides the 3rd but they had VERY good actors like Ewan McGregor, Christopher Lee and Ian McDiarmid, Only good actor in the sequels is Adam Driver and even he didn't do that good. He's great in other roles like Marriage Story tho.
Barbwire with Pamela Anderson was pulled in it's first week. I had a friend who was dying to see it, so we were going to go 3 days after it opened to see it. When we got there we learned it had been pulled. Every where else we checked it had been pulled also. It was pure shit, but he loved it when it came out on VHS.

Nahhh, that movie was great.
I love the live action remakes. I was almost getting ready to see Detective Pikachu and the new Kim Possible movie.

@@woolfolk2000 That probably was it. The other 1984 Christmas slasher, where people dressed as Santa were the victims, did not attract many protests.

Agree!
Silent night deadly night is a cult classic

Garbage day!

Underrated Critic Was that ever in theater?
Technically Foodfight never finished rendering.
4 ads during this video. 4!!! WTF are you doing, RUclips?
its called ad blocker
Mariah- is it free? Alix- that's what I did. Yea it's $12/month but I'm on RUclips so much that it's like...Ahh, might as well.
Patrick- all anyone cares about any more is money. They get money to run ads or they're gonna get it from you by charging you to block them. I miss the simpler days. I even saw an ad on the Amazon app the other day but at least they're only advertising their stuff lol

Every movie with Amy Schumer should've been pulled and should never make it to theaters ever again.
Shes a comic genius dude. How can you not like Amy Schumer
Something tells me that someone can't tell the difference between Silent Night, Deadly Night 1 and 2.
These movies were pulled out quicker than…
Oh wait this isn’t What culture.
Matt Fry I was also trying to think of one for "Where's Titanic"....
Looper doesn't get one per list!
This is the greatest comment... OF ALL TIME!
:)
Here's a BIG tip about Madonna movies. EVERY movie she starred in BOMBED. Every movie she is a supporting actress was a hit.
Hey. POSTAL was hilarious. Really offensive but that was the point.
I love Silent Night Deadly Night. I actually saw it the first time it was released. My issue is that it was on this list and had clips from the sequel. The film was re-released the following year though.
Damn good, different type of slasher. Screw the people that apposed this film. Don't like the film, don't go and see it!
i noticed that, too...
What about Shia labeuf movie which supposedly sold only 1 ticket?
Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? Oh wait...
To be fair, it was only released in one theater in the UK and released on Digital/Blu-Ray that same day.
Shia probably bought that ticket himself LOL
What movie was that?
What movie
Silent Night,Deadly Night is a great slasher movie
Gears 73 ok...
Silent Night Deadly Night went on to become a legitimate cult classic...also, all of the clips shown were from Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2
adam grossman Ok...
MR BAMBASTA ok..
@@plartoota4584 HMMM ok...
"The Meryl Streep of the Razzie Awards" 😂😂🔥
i remember the jem movie coming out, it had so much promo, then i was so confused when i never saw anything about it again.
Because it was that bad.
That car stunt @ 4:23 was insane!!
The stuntmen back in the day were psychos.
The Oogieloves is like Barney and Friends in an alternate universe😂
Oogieloves or whatever it is called, just looks like a ripoff of the UK childrens programme, The Tweenies 🤔
Urgh I loved tweenies
You got silent night deadly night wrong it was pulled because of the public being upset by a murdering Santa Claus
Its so hilariously ironic what happened to United Passions 😂 portraying Blatter as anti-corruption
Silent Night shouldn't be on here, since it wasn't pulled for its quality, but rather the controversy surrounding its premise. Also, the clips shown in this video confuse the first and second movies in the franchise.
I recall Siskel and Ebert were all over this movie because of the premise.
5:50 Goldeneye 007 and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World were both awesome video games and awesome movies.
Both don't originate as video games though. But if your argument was not all video games from movies (or graphic novels in Scott Pilgrim's case) are bad, then I second your comment.
But Goldeneye movie was first AS i recall
What about the movie Warcraft and assassins creed it was pretty good
I suffered from Sepp Bladder once. But my urologist cleared it up.
Never heard of any of these movies. And wow Delgo has a terrible name and even worse CGI effects even for 2008. Seen low budget kids TV with better graphics....
And yet, somehow, Disney Star Wars and Ghostbusters 2016 still made it. LOL
DrCognitive depends what you mean by made it... ghostbusters was a massive flop and only stayed because it was “woke”
Most Disney Star Wars movies did decent at theaters
G.I. Joe was successful?
Compared to these movies shown, easily
It had a sequel
I liked the 1st GI JOE movie simply for Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. They made up for everything else. Just a popcorn movie.
@@commentcopbadge6665 and knowing is half the battle
GI Joe movies are ok. be better if the story line was stretch trough a series and story line was more like the 80's comic book (not the cartoon)
