In this video, I look at the two new protagonists of HBO Max's Infinity Train. In Book 4: Duet, we meet Min-Gi Park and Ryan Akagi, two musicians from Canada who must resolve their issues and mend their friendship to escape the Infinity Train. I delve deep into their characters, what makes them who they are, and break down their character arcs throughout Book 4. Ryan and Min must learn to let go of their ego, detach from expectations, and live in the present.

Oh, i cannot express with words how excited i've been to see you make videos on Book 4. Also, i agree, i definitely needed this story when it came out, it finally motivated me to pick up my guitar for the first time in a year (not that i've played it much since, but, hey, it was a good first push).

Just want to mention how Ryan getting the van doesn't inherently negate his parents being neglectful/uncaring. Another way to interpret it is as more so. One getting 'something' doesn't mean it provides to their needs, so to me it's the ultimate way to be detached from his life, literally let him go to where they don't even have to give him a glance.

Friend of mine growing up had neglectful parents who often left him money. Seemed very generous from the outside, but in reality the mindset was 'buy your own basic necessities', investing to not invest any more, to be "freed" of your child even in thought.
Friend has quite a carefree attitude towards traveling cuz as a kid no one cared whether he'd come back home.

I did like this book and related a lot to Ryan about him not getting much attention from his parents and my impulsive behavior that sometimes gets me into trouble. I also thought he made the most adorable faces. He was probably my favorite infinity train character. It hurt when Min-gi was being so mean to him sometimes. Like that episode when Min was being very condescending to him. I’ve often been called stupid and looked down on cause of being a bit slow with learning things so I knew how Ryan was feeling at that moment.
Felt that, I have ADHD and as soon as Min started being condescending I had actual flashbacks to stuff my girlfriend had said that kinda hurt that was nearly identical to Min's comments

you know, i loved book 4, but there was always this sense of lack of completion that you get once an arc clicks for you. i knew i related a lot to min gi but i still felt like something didn't quite click, this video and this analysis made it click.

I completely agree. It's my favorite book too and I was struggling with the same things that Ryan and Min-gi were struggling with; wanting to pursue dreams vs wanting stability and doing what people want fr you. It came to me at the perfect time; when I was having an education crisis during my mock exams.
This is such a well-thought out analysis! I heard a lot of people say that book 4 was underwhelming, but personally, i really love how grounded in reality it was. I relate more to Ryan, since I was more of the neglected child in the family, and I always feel like i need to prove myself. And YES, these two are absolutely gay! This is one of the instances where its less of a headcanon, and more of a discreet canon. There is no heterosexual explanation for Ryan and Min-gi. My hc is that Ryan is bi / pan, and Min is gay and probably ace.

Before book 4's release, I thought they'd be the Human counterparts of Mace and Skiv. After finishing the season, I am so glad I was wrong!

Well i just re-binged the whole show and really really want at least a movie for book 5 to fill in enough blanks to make the series ending more satisfying but here’s my preferred theory on how things could have ended: We learn that Amelia when she Usurped the train scrabbled One’s programming turning him into One-One but this also gave him elements of emotion and humanity that helped him improve the train when he returned to the position. However he was still a slave to the Algorithms and math as well as the trains rules witch is why he entered into that loop with Jesse and Lake’s issue. For the ending i think it should turn out that One-One recognizes that the human element to look past the math and express compassion and imagination to solve issues so he makes a Co-conductor position. Amelia proved she can’t handle it as she got obsessed with abusing the trains power to recreate her old life and lost love. Even if she’s working to move past that she can’t handle regulating the train and she is trying to make it to Zero step by step but as that is likely to take a while i think that instead One-One will have her train Hazel as a ward and show her how to be the hands on co-conductor who interacts with passengers and sees them as more then just numbers. After a few years Hazel becomes a young lady (turtle lady) and Amelia though older now finally reaches Zero and gets off the train leaving Hazel as the Conductor who focuses on the compassion and humanity of passengers and helping them a bit more directly while One-One serves as the system regulator who focuses on the train functions as he is best at but where Hazel can add in her input if an issue occurs One-One can’t solve because of the trains rules or parameters preventing him from doing so. Thats the ending i’d like to see.

Personally, I like book 4, however, it felt different from the typical Infinity Train format of mystery. This season was more based around comedy, which was fine, but it sort of lacked the charm the first three seasons had. Also good luck with your surgery!
