I was surprised to learn there were only about a half dozen writers for a series this complex. I don't want them to make a Book four, for fear they cannot continue to make the storylines so good, and the show will only get worse.
Honestly they were both on a downward spiral. They both hit rock bottom, but Grace learned what she was always meant to from the train while Simon just sank further and further down until there was no coming back.
Grace is amazing, she recognized her mistakes, but the sadder part is that when she tried to fix it, she realized she couldn’t fix what was already done. Like with Simon and Hazel. She isn’t perfect and that makes her character development even better. I love her growth trough the show.
It’s so horrible to imagine, that the reason Simon was stuck on the train for most of his life, his psychotic tendencies were made from lies told from others, and all he thought the train was like- a video game, he wasn’t aware that everything on the train had a soul, due to he lived in it, with no info besides “raise your number” so he did what he was told, which lead to him believing it until his death, he laughed, and cried realizing what he become, then that cycling insanity mixed with his trauma into a mix of crying/laughing, If Simon was taught something different at the younger age, he wouldn’t have ended up like that
I don't like what you re saying. Well maybe people lied to him.. But every humans know is bad to kill other. I mean instinctively. I hate simon but man it just makes you want to think what his family is going through. He disappears at 10 years old to who knows where and who knows how... and then he gets killed in this mysterious dimension. No trace of him left behind _anywhere._ His family is never going to know what happened to him unless, idk, one of them manages to get on the train and finds out what happened. And I'm sure it's entirely possible since dealing with a disappearance in the family can be very traumatic and hard to deal with.
depending on how the train works I wonder if that is another way to get home? or maybe you become a denison? honestly I'd love to see a theory video about something like that
@@lilithblaire5288 would they believe them though? Depending on who it is, unless it's grace herself, do you think they would believe a little kid if they said that he was literally dissolved?
Also, I see a lot of people focusing on Simon, but it’s really worth remembering that whiles it his fault he wasn’t willing to learn he was wrong, he did learn everything he believed from Grace. We can’t absolve her of the atrocities she’s committed simply because she was willing to put the work in to begin to change. A lot of the people don’t seem to realize if Hazel hasn’t looked human when Grace met her, she would’ve had no issues wheeling her.
kind of reminds me of bojack horseman where it is shown more thoroughly, that giving someone a second chance and help him getting better should not mean that the person's action should just be forgiven and forgetten, but that the person still has to face the mistakes it made. I think this is hinted at in infinity train with the fact that grace didn't go down to zero, but still has to stay and try fixing all her wrong doings with the apex as best as she can
@@beardieblighter9905 It's not about doing bad things, it's about the mindsets that lead you to do bad things. Someone can commit genocide but if they fix the mindset that led them to it they'll have a tiny number/0
Book 3 is the most uncomfortable season for me. The idea that a member of your party would certainly want to hurt you if they found out your secret. This creates tension throughout the entire show. God Infinity Train is the best in all of the worse ways.
My thing is after that chat with tuba and Simon when he didn't see tuba as a person I wouldn't have been able to travel with Simon or anyone like Simon I would have left him
When Grace’s number was starting to go down, I was all like “YES!!!” And then when she starting getting set straight (fully understanding how the train works and everything) I was like “MORE YES!!!”
The characters are great, and im glad this season didn't to the usual trope of 'redeeming the sociopathic monster of a character because they have a sad backstory' that a lot of modern cartoons do with Simon. Simon got what he deserved for his deplorable choices, he could have take the chance to improve like Grace did but he made his decision and faced the consequences for that decision. Also it must be said that Tuba is best mom, we stan tuba. Tuba deserved better.
Simon didn’t “get what he deserved” I believe one of the shows writers outwardly stated it as well, Simon was a character who was given the opportunity to redeem himself. To take his wrongdoings, reflect and change. He made the choice to not change, and hold strong in his horrible downward spiral. Most modern shows depict the redeemed villain because, in most cases, everyone should be given a chance to redeem themselves. Frankly, I feel like Simon didn’t get what he deserved, because he died believing he was right and held the view that he died a hero who failed. I believe villains deserve to be redeemed because it’s a far harsher punishment for them to have to live with the guilt of acknowledging their wrong doings and learning from them. However, I do still love this ending, because Simon essentially chose death in his deceitful, psychotic mindset, then the second chance he was offered time, and time, and time over throughout the story. This chapter was my favourite because it did what most other stories like it are afraid to do, and show the alternate and far sadder end that many a real world villain unfortunately face. And finally, yes, Tuba is up there in the best mom hall of fame along with absolute goddesses like Torial.
@@leimmortalraven3246 "...I believe it's a far harsher punishment for them to have to live with the guilt of acknowledging their wrongdoings..." THANK YOU. I'm okay with the ending too, it just made me feel weird. The writters did say it wasn't meant to be a triumphant ending, so that's good at least
I know some people felt book 4 was a bit weaker, but honestly it makes total sense they’d go for a palette cleanser season after this and before the extremely heavy book 5 they had planned.
agreed just because book 4 isn’t as dark doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s just fun, and still really well written especially compared to a lot of other cartoons.
Book 3 of infinity train was beautiful, the characters got so complex,I love what they did with grace and simon, how neither of them is completely right and how every action they take has consequences, this is one of the better representation of human nature I've ever saw in a show
@@greenxmango8049 Well, it was explained why this group of kids didn’t know what the goal of the train is. The train WAS hijacked so no one got instructions like they normally would when they boarded.
@@chanmarr8118 Nope. Until Tulip brought One-one back to the engine there were never introduction videos. When Amelia first arrived there were no instruction videos and there were also none when she was conductor. Only after one split into one-one and traveled with tulip did he realize that the passengers needed an explanation. Before Amelia took over he was just an emotionless robot who didn’t really care whether the passengers got better or not. After tulip he started to go out of his way to help the passengers as much as he could. Tulip really had a massive effect on the train for the short time she was on there.
This book is like a sweet and sour cake that gives you a lot of mixed flavors: Sweet: Hazel bonding with Grace like sisters, Tuba being a motherly figure, Amelia being touched by Hazel's affections and the Apex being reformed Sour: Grace's childhood and losing Hazel, Hazel breaking down, Simon's betrayal by the cat, big bad slippage and his untimely death, and Tuba being murdered
Im honestly so surprised this show managed to make me like Grace over time. I disliked her so much at the start. But now she's one of my favorite characters
I can't help but quietly sing along with Hazel, when she's at the tree with Grace, as tears slowly start rolling down my face. Poor Hazel. Poor Tuba. Poor Simon. Poor Grace. It's tragic how Grace's mistakes, that led to Simon becoming a monster, Hazel losing her friend, and being taken by Amelia, it's all things that can't be fixed. What's done is done, and Grace can only do better in the future.
I really like that, while it emphasizes Grace's growth, the show also makes it a point to highlight that Grace is not at all innocent. She had a big part to play in making Simon become a monster. Not only that, but she also still didn't do the right thing by Hazel when she needed her the most. It's so sad the show got cancelled. The story of Amelia and Hazel... and even Grace feels like she still had a bit left to her arc.
it hits way more different when you realize hazel was coded by amelia and she shared traits from both amelia and alrick. she's even wearing their gradeschool uniform.
I caught that pretty quickly after Ameila started rambling at how close she got. Hazel is not Alrick, she's not her dead husband... She's their daughter. And I wonder if Amelia has fully realized that.
Poor poor hazel .. they took her from her home , mislead her , killed her surrogate mother , then treated her like shit practically abandoning her after they took everything from her and has no one to go back to ..
@@furrymczplayer18 True. Amelia is played by Lena Heady and she knows how to play a woman who has no heart for things she did not create. Technically Hazel is her creation but it's asking for too much to be her "mother"
Such a cute sci-fi conceit/concept: People who are completely unaware or mistaken of the principles/rules of the system or environment they are in. And the consequences that arise from their faulty perception. Old as dirt, narratively speaking, but I'm glad to see it anyway. Edit: Also, not to be a synthwave snob, but the music isn't half bad either.
Just remember, it can be argued that a "Null" isnt a real being, that its artificial and does't have "real" feelings, but Simon and the Apex were willing to kill an actual human being
It makes me really sad that Grace and Hazel were so close, and she had to leave because she had trauma and was a “null”. But she was the little sister that Grace never knew she needed, and help Grace find her redemption, but she knows she’ll never see Hazel again. WHY IS THIS SHOW SO EMOTIONAL DAMAGE-
Grace is such an enjoyable protagonist. Tulip is always gonna be my favourite solely because of my emotional attachment to her, her book was the most interesting to me because its the first time you see the world. Its filled with the most mysteries and One-One is my favourite companion but Grace's arc is heartbreaking. I wish we could've seen book 5, as much as I loved 4 it was meant to be more chill for how heavy 3 and 5 were.
I remember watching season 2 and when grace and Simon where introduced I hated them as characters, by that I mean they're job was fulfilled as villains of that part. When season 3 started and I saw they where the focus, I thought it was going to be the worst the show got, I thought "there is no way they can make these characters into likeable ones" boy how wrong was I. I found myself sucked in so much that when I got to the final episode I didn't even realize it. This was definitely my favorite season, this show has always been about broken people, but this season just hit different. The fact that Simon never got better and only got worse was soo good. I distinctly remember when tuba fell off the train and Simon went to "save" them, I was happy that he might actually get better, but when he didn't, it was almost better in a way. Sorry for the rambling thoughts I just want to get my praises out there
Oh definitely, this season is one of the best I've seen on tv in a while, it really takes the whole "everyone can change if their given a chance" and simon was given chances time after time, but in the end you cant really change someone who doesnt want to change
Same. The first two episodes really annoyed and bored me bcus I didn't like or care for the characters at all like Tulip or Lake. But I think that was the point, to make us learn and grow about characters we hate like Grace, who seem to heal overtime. And Simon, who never could be changed.
Book 1's lesson: Embrace the change in your life. Book 2: Be your own person. Book 3: Some people not all can be redeemed. Book 4: You can always fix and learn from your mistakes.
There are no words to express how much i essentially screamed when Amelia just casually walked past them. GOD i wish we could've gotten more of her story in book 5, and every other book Owen planned to make... Also Samantha slayed as she always does
I adore the other books and they all have some emotional moments but everything in book 3 has so much weight behind it, the ages of harm the apex has caused to denizens, grace and simon just being children who grew up believing awful things because no adult was around to correct them, everything about tuba's and hazel's bond, hazel being a denizen but not being recognisable as one, simon's harmless crush on grace turning full incel rage the moment she disagrees with him, and it all comes together in this beautiful and tragic melting pot of emotion, it is so fantastically made! Truly hits different!
although it’s sad that infinity train was cut short and we never got to see what happened to Hazel, I think it’s also a fitting message that not every action is owed closure. Although grace has become a better person, she’ll still have to live with the guilt of her actions, and Hazel’s story not having a resolution serves as a good reminder of that.
The beauty of season three is that the main characters are some of the most dislikable characters but it’s so compelling. While Grace does get better I think that she has a long way to go and will definitely need to atone for a lot.
@@adampkalb And if any of you readers haven't seen the show for some reason, this is kinda spoiler because she is just called "The Cat" in first 2 seasons, her name was a mystery until S3.
I genuinely think Book 3 is one of the best written animated series I've ever seen. Every character motivation feels realistic and understable, even Simon who ends up acting like a generic Shonen Manga villain by the last episode felt very empathetic, and his pain very understandable.
This season portrayed Grace and Simon amazingly. It's easy to hate Simon but I actually like him a little more than Grace, mostly because I was eager to see how his story was going to end. The path of Grace was easy to guess, but it still surprised me. They didn't use Hazel as a character to redeem Grace, she didn't even stay with her and I adore that, that's consequences! Simon was vulnerable until the end, he was no different than Grace at the beginning, but she changed and he chose not to. And they don't portray him as this evil person, I thought there was going to be a reveal where the Cat didn't actually leave him and he was wrong, but it wasn't like that, she did abandon him, there was no excuse for that. Simon had every chance to realize his mistakes, that's the point of the train, you are never too late to be better, Emilia is working through her mistakes, Grace was just starting, and Simon couldn't because he didn't allow himself to.
I really like how at the point of episode 10 that Grace AND Simon are like completely different characters compared to the first episode of season 3, especially how her relationship changed! While Grace became an angel Simon became the devil of Infinity Train himself... You need to f*ck up badly to gain a even higher number than Amelia who herself needed YEARS for it while Simon got it in... A FEW DAYS!
I really dont like that this show was cancelled especially after a season that didn't explain what happened to the other characters like grace hazel and amelia this show was just so good
Well we don’t need a complete explanation of what happened to Grace since this season left us really explained that Grace was going to get his number down, which left us to just know why they didn’t made season 5 which was meant to be Amelia and Hazel :(
Yo, I ain’t disagreeing with ya. As much of a dirtbag he was, you can’t deny that the writers put a lot of thought and effort into Simon’s character. I liked how whereas Grace got a progressive character arc, Simon got a regressive character arc. And at the end of the day, you can’t help but feel bad for him. Dude had serious issues, and no one really seemed to notice that until it was too late. He was a jerk: but a well written jerk.
@@Cheetahgirl_Studios hi, I believe Simon just couldn’t see things from Grace's perspective, he just saw that she’s becoming different person, but couldn’t understand why, so he believes that she’s just gonna leave, just as everyone before, that leads his scare to be alone into deep paranoia and then he's just gone off... Feels bad man, irl people also have problems with seeing thing from different perspective, that’s why I emphasize him
@@theguywithsomething8634 I think it’s not referring to how he’s written. What I think Jane means is that he gets crapped on a lot for what he did to Tuba and Grace. And yeah: those were seriously messed up things to do. But some people think “bad actions= bad writing”, which isn’t necessarily the case. The show illustrates Simon’s thought process, as he more or less collapsed from fear of abandonment and turned against Grace, since he kind of realised that she was going to leave him eventually, and he couldn’t bring himself to go through being abandoned by someone he let himself get close to again. That’s what I think some people mean anyways.

I think I finally understand why that amazing track never got played after episode 3, the song was based on Grace and Simon’s friendship, their friendship started to go downhill when Grace’s number started to go down at the end of episode 3.
I love how right off the bat with this season the music sounded a whole lot more sinister. It was definitely a signal that this would absolutely be the darkest season of the bunch
Having just gone to a funeral for a family friend whom I’ve had one conversation in the past 5-6 years, I identify with Grace crying at Tuba’s funeral.
I wholeheartedly belive that Simon, Grace and Hazel were an allegation to unhealthy/ Unstable/intrafamiliar abuse. How Simon treated Grace whenever she was paying too much attention to Hazel, the way he would get paranoid or be extra controlling of her for the way her number got lower, the way Simon treated Hazel contrated to how motherly, caring and attached Grace got with Hazel as if she was her child or acted as a nurturing caretaker for her, and how to forget when Amelia showed up and Hazel´s desicion to go with her and Grace suffering and crying as she was taken from her, all felt like child protective services or a legal guardian (Amelia) takes away the child from an unhealthy homelife after seeing how her living conditions looked like (being with Grace and Simon acting as the negkectful and abusive father and Grace as the protective and devoted mother who even if she did her best to take care of the child she was not doing anything about her spouce´s behavior towards the kid) and of course the befoure and after events of the separation of the parents taken away by good from their kid. It´s all so well playd out and wonderfully done that it hurts so much to wacth.
Like the sheer ignorance coming from you. Grace was also guilty... of lying and manipulation... of feeding into what can be seen as an abusive behavior for how ever long she was with Apex and of not truly understanding Hazel... Say what you want about Simon but don’t paint grace like she was wasn’t at fault at all... otherwise if you do... Then give Simon some slack.... as you were doing the same for Grace... all you did was paint one side as good and the other as bad... when there is much more nuance in the story... and I haven’t even watched the show.... just seen a bunch a clips It’s obvious how biased you are
@@Enrique-nv3lc that isn’t true. It’s literally made a plot point that she is lying and manipulating both Hazel and Simon. As for the train.... What? That doesn’t excuse that she herself fed into a toxic personality. Honestly I cannot even feel conflicted as I understand where Simon is coming from. She was his friend first and she and him together had been doing this for a while. Then all of a sudden she decided that she wasn’t going to do what he and her had been doing forever now. She fed into that behavior and encouraged it when they met. Turning him towards it and ultimately normalizing him to it. Just because she didn’t “know how it worked” doesn’t mean she didn’t actively lead and encourage others to follow a path which much later she just suddenly decided to give up. Grace changed on Simon and even though the transformation is good. That doesn’t change that she basically abandoned her friend and made it so he wasn’t by her side anymore. Especially when she was the one that showed him acting that way was a GOOD thing.

Theory: Ghoms are the souls of deceased inhabitants of the train and thrive on sucking the life from others. The ghom that killed Simon is Tuba taking revenge. Likely, in Book 4, Simon will become a ghom and try to kill Grace.
This was confirmed in season one! When Atticus was killed by Amelia when she was still conductor, and not OneOne, he turned into a Ghom and attacked Tulip.
@@positivityboi1232 Wasn't that a repurposed cannon though? The one that turns things into other things using orbs? A corgi orb was enough to bring Atticus back, so I don't think he was actually dead, more like transformed into a monster by a cannon with a gohm orb
That gohm was graces old null. It was trying to save her. Look at how it was doing the sucky thing, but only on her hands as she was going to fall to her death, and only showed up when she was going to get her head stomped in, and never once actually tried to harm HER Everyone gets a companion. Simon had Samantha, but we never see grace with one. She had a run in with Amelia, where is hers?
that's because grace and simon are also "kids", or at least they see themselves that way. a big theme of book 3 is the contrast between grace beginning to mature into adulthood and take responsibility for her actions while simon continues to act like a destructive child. (grace and simon are 18 during book 3 i believe, which puts them directly at that awkward intersection between child and adult. they're old enough that they *should* know better, and young enough to think they already do.)
Children are easier to manipulate since they haven't grown into their own as people yet and are more likely to grip into anyone or anything for guidance

I always thought that every cart in the train was made for a reason, every "Null" ment for a passenger. It took a long time and a lot of self discovery. But in the end Grace met her Hazel.
I've watched a ton of CN cartoons, and love most of them; steven universe and adventure were like my favorites shows, until I watched Infinity train. This season of this show, actually no, this entire show is just so amazing and different and pushes boundaries and explores themes that I never even thought would ever be explored in cartoons, and especially not in the way infinity train did it. I feel like this show itself, could help so many people with their problems, literally just wacthing a cartoon lmao. And it's funny cuz, this whole shows premise is about people. Broken people, people who need help. And it's so realistic that when it comes to someone who does need help irl, and they watch this show, i feel it could open their eyes. His family is never going to know what happened to him unless, idk, one of them manages to get on the train and finds out what happened. And I'm sure it's entirely possible since dealing with a disappearance in the family can be very traumatic and hard to deal with.
depending on how the train works I wonder if that is another way to get home? or maybe you become a denison? honestly I'd love to see a theory video about something like that

I think this is hinted at in infinity train with the fact that grace didn't go down to zero, but still has to stay and try fixing all her wrong doings with the apex as best as she can
but grace as she is now has changed and is changing- Simon never did
Grace never did anything nearly as bad as what Simon did, otherwise she'd be covered head to toe in numbers too
@@beardieblighter9905 It's not about doing bad things, it's about the mindsets that lead you to do bad things.

Dang now you put it like that, it reminds me of being lgbt and the fear of coming out
My thing is after that chat with tuba and Simon when he didn't see tuba as a person I wouldn't have been able to travel with Simon or anyone like Simon I would have left him
When Grace’s number was starting to go down, I was all like “YES!!!” And then when she starting getting set straight (fully understanding how the train works and everything) I was like “MORE YES!!!”
R.I.P Tuba
And that’s why she died. Because she was needed to show how far gone Simon was and how dangerous his way of thinking is to everyone around him
Simon didn’t “get what he deserved” I believe one of the shows writers outwardly stated it as well, Simon was a character who was given the opportunity to redeem himself.
Bro same. At the beginning I was wondering how they would win over these awful main characters but then Grace turned out to be one of my favourites :)
It's called character development
A bit? We still don't know who built the train, and especially why.

Could you give some examples of this conceit/concept. I honestly can't think of any.
Just remember, it can be argued that a "Null" isnt a real being, that its artificial and does't have "real" feelings, but Simon and the Apex were willing to kill an actual human being
We're made out of flesh and bones, they're made out of orbs.
We're all just made differently
It makes me really sad that Grace and Hazel were so close, and she had to leave because she had trauma and was a “null”. But she was the little sister that Grace never knew she needed, and help Grace find her redemption, but she knows she’ll never see Hazel again.
WHY IS THIS SHOW SO EMOTIONAL DAMAGE-
Grace went from being a bully kind of antagonist to just fully redeemed in the end, except Simon who will never be redeemed.
Book 3 is the hardest to learn, by far.

Also Samantha slayed as she always does
@Tom Ford she wouldn't have been if they would've let Owen make the movie...
Tuba was the only thing keeping hazel from turning into a turtle and tuba would protect her from stuff and the lullaby would calm her down
The beauty of season three is that the main characters are some of the most dislikable characters but it’s so compelling. While Grace does get better I think that she has a long way to go and will definitely need to atone for a lot.
And now, Simon's soul is gone. He doesn't even get an afterlife.
He's even more alone than he was to begin with. And he brought it on himself.

@@Silliestlady I wouldn’t say _no_ reason. There’s a real-world equivalent that _feels_ just as disturbing, but doesn’t look that way.
You know what’s something I realized? I realized how creepy it is how the apex only takes children. Like that’s so creepy
that's because grace and simon are also "kids", or at least they see themselves that way. a big theme of book 3 is the contrast between grace beginning to mature into adulthood and take responsibility for her actions while simon continues to act like a destructive child.
Simon looked so creepy with numbers all over his body
I'm amazed of Grace went from being a careless person to "nulls" to caring for one.
i remember when i was watching this with my dad i said "simon better not make me sad at the end or i swear to god" and here he is, making me sad
I was so sad for the denizens in the theatre car💔 they didn’t deserve that they just wanted to sing their little friendship song😭😭 and no I will not talk abt Tuba, I’m not ready to confront that emotional wound yet
I know!!! Also I feel like people don’t know this, but the song the denizens in the theatre car sing is the one that Jessie mentions in season 2. I think it also says it’s his musical.
I just noticed that her little dance kicks at the beginning was hinting at her being a ballet dancer before the train
being evil has the best hair style and badass outlook. Just imagine Simon was shredded in that wife beater
I always thought that every cart in the train was made for a reason, every "Null" ment for a passenger. It took a long time and a lot of self discovery. But in the end Grace met her Hazel.
And Simon met his Ghom
@@esdraskuhn8896 you had no right!!!
So sad that Simon had such a low number and could've gotten it down easy
It definitely open mine, even tho it seems like they've been opened before, this feels real. This show is just incredible and actually extraordinary in an amazing way, and I know that so many other people feel the same as I do, and you probably do as well, whoever is reading this (if anyone actually is lol) It rlly is a shame it got cancelled, honestly it hurts so much. If there's ANY show in the history of cartoons and TV and entertainment in general that deserves to get renewed, it's Infinity Train, the show with what seems like infinite possibilities.
(Sorry but I just needed to say this, infinity train is my favorite show since I watched book two and I feel it deserves all this love it's getting and more, especially from the executives at CN and HBO.)
Don't worry for writting this, is a great comment!
Infinity train deserves more seasons, i couldn't agree more -w-☕
I love the small detail of grace changing her permed hair for locs
6:51 it’s the little moments that make the show and life in general fun.
This...is a f*cked up show. *I want more!* :D
Book 3 REALLY pushed the boundaries, that's exactly why we remember this show while 10 others fade into nothingness.
Simon was given a chance but threw it in Grace's face and ended up paying for all the things he had done by being killed by his worst nightmare.
7:53 - whoa... foreshadowing.
:(
That's creepy
At the beginning of season 3: Grace and Simon have really good chemistry :D
At the end of season 3: Noooope 8D
Note how the other videos are 10 and 6 minutes whilst this one *is fucking 23 minutes of angst*
