It's a movie that leaves you with more questions than questions with satisfying answers. Why is the villain turning into a cockroach? What was the villain's backstory? Where's Dru? What was the point of all the tangential subplots that never left the characters they're featured in with lessons and added nothing to the main plot (which is also bad)? So on and so forth... The animation is surprisingly pleasant to look at, I think that's where the budget went.
i thought it was nice to see something different after being forced to watch despicable me 3 and minions 2 alot i quite enjoyed it more than kung fu panda 4
I think the design is what makes the villains in the series great. Vector: Vector is obviously not threating, he's a dork, and his design shows it. He's the "new age" of villiany and it shows. El Macho: El Macho is a large, bulky man. It shows both that he has a lot in life (and that he still wants more) and that he's out of his prime. Bratt: Balthazar has shoulder pads and an outdated outfit. It represents how Balthazar can't accept that his fame has gone and wants to cling onto it. Maxine: A Cockroach with a giant coat. Why though? What exactly is he supposed to represent? The only story he has is that he wants revenge for something petty that happened what, 30 years ago?
@@MisterDragon_ THIS! Normally I love villains with a lot of flair and flamboyance. Villains who wear a lot of nice clothing and are not afraid to show off. But Maxime is just a bug with a coat. It’s not that interesting at all.
I have a secret. The movie was wrote by God and it was meant to represent how a kid became the king of cockroaches for a lost little boy out there who actually got fooled into believing God loves him and respects him when he prays to him
@@GrandMasterBruh I feel like the first film had a lot of charm to it, but Illumination realized that Despicable Me was essentially a cash cow for them, so they stopped trying.
@@beetole_ i also overthought it, but i just said it because i have no shame in being wrong. Also if you're not sure about it, you can just double check and google it to be sure, it's how i make my nerd out comments lol.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded seeing Scarlet overkill back as she was seen still alive in the minions movie and would have a grudge against both the minions for ending her reign as queen of England and Gru for stealing her stolen crown. She would’ve been a great villain for 4 and her potential for being comedically old and yet villainous can be funny.
Scarlet Overkill was honestly a great villain for a kid’s movie. She’s extremely power hungry and violent when she doesn’t get her way, while demonstrating a sinister and masked sense of pleasantness. She posed a legit threat to the Minions in her movie.
Ngl I love the minions because of her being a great villain and a real threat to the world with England’s military and her tech made from her husband btw she could even mask the fact she wanted to rip the minions apart and was being sweet so she can be givin a crown
All Despicable Me villains have goals. Scarlet wants the queen's crown, Vector wants the moon, El Macho wants to build an army of monster minions, Balthazar Bratt wants the diamond and the vicious six want the Zodiac stone. And Maxime, for some reason, wants to steal Gru's child😐
villains back then: I will literally make the hero's life a living hell, he or she will know no rest underneath my wrath, for as long as they stop me from reaching my goal, they will suffer for it. Villains now: me big baddie, me must take over the world over something.
That's the thing, back when the 2nd movie came out, it was a direct sequel, and El macho had heard about it and initially wanted Gru's help After a certain point though they started milking the series dry
Why did the AVL evacuate his family? Still figuring it out. He owns missiles and a whole faction of minions. Whats the point? AND WHY IS DR NEFARIO STILL FROZEN IN CARBONITE
Vector: Punchable nerd in orange PJs, kidnapped 3 children to hold for ransom El Macho: Designed after a luchador, created an army of rabid minions to take over the world Balthazar Bratt: Creative with 80s themed weapons and gadgets, was going to send an entire city into space while remaking an episode of his old TV show Scarlet Overkill: 60s themed villain who is incredibly influential, she turned every villain against the minions in a single moment, and who has lava guns! The Vicious Six: All with a specific theme, was going to destroy the AVL by turning into the Chinese zodiac animals Maxime Le Mal: Bugs
Here's what I would've done to at least make Maxime a bit more threatening without changing much: - Have Maxime injure some of the AVL agents during the opening scene of the film - During the Gas Station scene, have the employee Maxime turns into a cockroach go through some body horror (like El Macho drinking the PX-41 serum from Despicable Me 2) - Make his cockroach minions actually look intimidating - Cut out the whole ending scene with Everybody Wants To Rule The World so Maxime doesn't even slightly get some type of "redemption" because quite frankly, he doesn't deserve it - Change Gru Jr. being turned into a cockroach be a way to sorta taunt Gru by making him see his son go down the path of a villain instead of Maxime "wanting a son"
And don't forget to use the Cockroach minion. The AVL have the Mega Minion and the rest of Gru's Minion while Maxime has an army of Cockroach while also a gun that could turn people into some zombie bug thing. I'm kinda hoping for the Final Fight was between them at Mayflower while also an intervention from the AVL agents
Tbh after watching the movie, I have a few more things to improve maxime: -Let Gru fall off along with poppy onto the sea, so he can create a bigger mech that mega minions can help with him (instead of the mega minions rushing into him) - Make the movie extended longer so we can see him free the villains from the despicable me franchise (kinda wish that they freaking age up the minions villains so that it makes sense they wouldn’t help him since they’re old and retired.) -Make his cockroach minions do something, like helping him or something instead of here just for showing the audience that he’s a parallel of gru. -Make him use the transformation gun on the minions of avl so it could be despicable me 2, and then they can help him hunt gru and make his final battle even more exciting. - Instead of a montage of him flying to hunt gru down, make him be like a terrorist, like make him just destroy things, and besides he can just fly to the avl after getting the transformation gun, so gru will be on himself. -Remove the talent show backstory, because it would be the chameleon v2
@@bradleyhauertheedtruncanfa5020He's exercising in his cell to that music, preparing to break out and be a menace again That, or it's just a comedic scene showing what he's even up to inside prison
@@AardmanCoasterMan This year is full of 4th films: Kung Fu Panda 4 Despicable Me 4 Beverly Hills Cop Axel F Bad Boys Ride or Die and technicly Ghostbusters Frozen Empire is also the fourth film in the mainline series. It feels like a joke everyone just wanted to be in on.
Okay you can expand on this however you want but here's a rewrite for the character: Cockroaches = Can't die, right? Make him this guy who hunts down his targets and no matter what you do to stop him, like a cockroach, comes back without a single scratch and becomes stronger, faster, smarter. Learns from his targets. But in the end like a cockroach, gets squished back down when he's at his weakest.
No way. I never thought of that but that’s actually a really smart idea. Think of it. Maxine commands the roaches to infest the city rapidly to force every AVL agent, including Gru to come out. Instead, the agents and minions are the ones to battle. Some have silly shenanigans while others have perfect synchrony.
Despicable Me: Funny tracksuit man Despicable Me 2: Funny overweight Mexican man Despicable Me 3: Funny 80s South Park man Despicable Me 4: Unfunny bug man
I found poppy far more interesting than maxime tbh I thought the whole concept of gru kinda being a mentor for her was kinda cute maybe they could’ve done more of that in the movie but oh well
Or prehaps, instead of Poppy have one of his daughter want to go to villian school after hearing her dad's childhood stories. Enid would've been perfect for that. She already likes violence. And have a 2nd subplot for the sisters, with Agnes being the good little girl hero and dissaproving of Enids choice. And Margo trying to make peace as the older sister.
Its insane, Vector and Gru tried to one up each other, El Macho was a huge power house, Scarlett was power hungry, Bratt felt like the whole world turned against him… but Maxime ? His act at a talent show got copied… Jesus… so many great villians… and we’re just left with him for the end :/
To me, the strongest antagonist in the Dispicable Me movies is El Macho. Each villain has a good debate-able backstory on why they do what they do. With Vector, he was raised into villany, and wants to prove to his father he isn't a complete failure. With Bathazar, he was raised into fame, enjoying freedom to do anything he wanted, and when that was stripped from him because of his age, he lost it and wen't to become what he portrayed. However, El Macho was different in the sense he wasn't raised into this. He was a great villain, so much he was respected by other villains and made into legend. For him, he wanted more in his life, so when he thought this would become his final rememberance, to be a strong and mighty villain with near unlimited strength, he decided to change. He killed, and I mean that literally, his image, and bided his time to become whatever he wanted. Eventually, the monster serum was created, and that bid his ticket to begin his plans he had prepared. Even neglecting his own son, he chased his passion to rule the world. It's why he's such a good villain, he represents how chasing our dreams can be a bad thing, and how we can loose ourselves because of it.
(edit) as for this random french dude, he sucks as a character. A cockroach? really? They aren't unstoppable. I ain't no scientist pr anything, but he could easily be avoided by carrying a can of Raid around with you. "Ha! I've got you now!" **sprays Raid* "GAK! Wha-what is this? **cough* U-uh I don't underst- **cough* Oh my goo- Ughh.. France!" **dies on impact*
One other thing of note is other than the prequel villains, El Macho is the only villain that recognised the minions being a potential resource and captured almost all of them to the point where he could’ve actually won if there wasn’t a minion antidote as when they turn purple they can eat anything and anyone. Even though he’s not that great of a villain compared to the likes of Jafar or Jack Horner El Macho raised the stakes as high as vector along with having an intimidating army to back him up so it’s sad the 4th movie’s villain was wasted potential and didn’t have as much depth (even though the villains are not all that dimensional).
Rise of Gru did a better job with the whole "Hunt Gru down" plot, The Vicious Six actually looked for clues and were a lot more threatening considering that they would go to the extend to M*rder a child, Even if it would feel repetitive at least it would have made him intimidating.
@@SubtotalStar850-uh8pg Sorry, But RUclips has deleted so many of my comments before whenever i used a slightly "Not Okay" word, So i don't wanna risk it.
Vector: I kidnapped Gru’s kids and took the moon with both Direction and Magnitude El Macho: I faked my death in the most over the top way possible and turned into a mutant to try and defeat Gru Balthazar Brat: I tried destroying the entirety of Hollywood just because they cancelled my show Scarlet Overkill: I had minions help me with overthrowing the British monarchy to become queen The Vicious Six: we tried actively hunting down a child because he stole something from us Maxime Le Mal: I tried to kill Gru because he ruined my life or something
I think we can all unanimously agree that all the Despicable Me movies deteriorate in order: Despicable Me - Unironically good *->* Despicable Me 2 - Unstructured but really silly and still decent *->* Despicable Me 3 - Even less structured, drags down in many areas, but _I guess_ it still can be fun *->* And then there's Despicable Me 4. *Yeah.*
I hated that in this movie, the plot goes so fast. Like the villain is in the prison and you blink and he is already out. And the mega minions retired and next time you see them they are back!
What about Poppy? She blackmailed Gru even though Gru could of just called the Amc,they stole the Honeybager,Poopy helps Gru to get his son then she goes into the villan school even though Gru is supposed to be stopping villans. She just felt like a shoved in charater.
The worst part is, they showed they can write good villains. My favorite villain is still Scarlet Overkill, she was super well done. From the beginning to end. This villain in this movie was super underwhelming. His girlfriend barely did shit too. 😭😭
I really think his whole motivation is also wrong. Instead of creating that stupid reason for him to hate Gru, they should've made him want to kidnap Gru Jr due to never being able to form a family (because of the cockroach transformation), which could have been a whole lesson about the consequences of achieving fame at any cost But no, let's make a petty and incompetent bore of a villain
I think it would’ve been even more interesting to see that Maxine knew Gru as one of the more top villains. But seeing as he now joined the AVL and went from world second best villain (Because Vector shortly took over that title.), to world’s best agent. Then Maxine would offer Gru a chance to come back to villainy. But Gru would obviously reject him and get Maxine caught so Maxine would use the roaches to break free from prison and find out that Gru has a child. Then he can try and use the child’s small mentality and convince him to join him over his father. I guess it doesn’t sound well structured but it’s *a* way to write the plot. (And because I should also be sleeping.)
I totally agree. When the movie was over I was like “that’s it?” The fight scene felt a minute long and I thought makenne was going to come back to life
I genuinely thought for a moment that his character was gonna be some dark parallel to Gru with how they introduce his cockroach minions and being a more successful villain than Gru but they do nothing with them.
Fr thats exactly what i thought. I thought that the minions would fight the cockroaches and the cockroaches would outnumber them. And of course Maxime would fight with gru and gru would lose because Maxime is stronger
@vector0821 Despicable Me 1 was great. Super Mario Bros Movie was fun. We know they’re capable of entertaining an audience. There’s no excuse for their films to be so consistently boring. We just want _effort_ out of the studio that brought us _Despicable Me._ Is that really so much to ask?
@@dexterwilliams2520Or their effort is in short turnaround times and lower budgets so that Universal can payout more money to shareholders and the CEO, or reinvest that money into live-action films or DreamWorks.
Wouldn't it be better that he was bullied in school for living poor and in dirty conditions(hence the nickname cockroach) and now he wants to turn anyone into cockroaches as revenge? Or that he would be a lonely child who's only friends were cockroaches?
I hated how the Mega Minions, which were literally the entire selling point of the show (Being featured in all the ads and trailers for the movie) really only get some irrelevant side plot in the movie, you could literally remove their scenes from the movie and it would still make sense, the ending where they squash Maxime wasn’t even needed since he was already defeated. I was really hoping they would come out, save Gru last minute, and have a good battle with Maxime at least
Same, tbh it would be better if they just let them fall onto the sea and then let maxime create a giant cockroach mech to take over the whole city and threaten the avl and gru.
I'd say Kung Fu Panda 4 was far better than despicable me 4. When I was in the theater the kids in the audience were glued to their seats during KFP4 but during DM4 multiple children dragged their parents out of the screening. I did not hear a single laugh during DM4 in an audience filled with kids.
@@koplogameYeah. This movie is only really bad if you look at it from a critical perspective in my opinion. But I consider this the second most entertaining of the franchise in terms of everything that happens throughout it.
Despicable Me 3 villian literally has a giant robot with the intent of sending hollywood in to literal space, and in the fourth installment has a bug man which doesn't use his bug army and a pretty short battle at the end and gets defeated in like 2 minutes
Prime example of why “show dont tell” is important. Edit: This looses my heart but i wanna clarify that I haven’t seen the movie and kinda just commented this to comment. I understand that exposition can be conveyed through dialog, I didnt even finish the video before commenting I was just hungry for sweet likes 😋💰
I'd like to add that most of the stuff that he did was left behind the scenes. How did he become the top villain? How did he create cockroach machine, and why is he the only one who didn't turn into an unconscious zombie? How did he escape from prison? How did he build everything while living in the sewers? How did he befriend cockroaches, and why do they have human-like cognitive abilities? All of that was left behind the scene
My guess is that he's a "stinky poopoo Frenchman" so he's supposed to be evil and as disgusting as cockroaches. This would somehow make him immune to the cockroach machine and able to work with cockroaches.
i actually almost fell asleep watching this movie, it was literally just unfunny slice of life for an hour then it all got resolved in a minute and everyone danced 😐
he could have been evil because of causing infestations in restaurants, using his bug abilities to control bugs, turn other regular people into bugs and control them in a hivemind to take over the city or whatever. but noooo, he was just a weird rich guy obsessed with a prom moment and some dudes kid, like step up your game guys what happened?
GRU dodges missiles, tanks like 60 different war weapons, defeats a mutant macho man, defeats a 70 metre tall mech (with help) AND GETS (almost)DEFEATED BY A FREAKING COCKROACH MAN, LIKE COME ON
Dude he had his own army of cockroaches why the hell couldnt the ”final battle moment“ be army of cockroaches vs army of minions while gru and maxime were fighting on the side? Like opposites of each other
Hard Agree to Disagree here, me and my fiancee just recently watched all of Despicable Me (including the two minions movies) as prep for Despicable Me 4. All of the Movies a fun watch and none are all that bad. All around the 7-8/10 Points for me at least. As short side Note, my Ranking of all 6 Movies : 1st - Despicable Me 2 2nd - Despicable Me 1 3rd - Despicable Me 4 4th - Minions 2 (The One with the vicious 6) 5th - Despicable Me 3 (The One with Dru) 6th - Minions 1 (The one with Scarlet Overkill) Maxime Le Mal is not a bad (written) villain, he ist just a bad (evil) villain, in the same vein as Gru being a bad (evil) villain. Maxime was just mad at his classmate, he didnt strive for world domination and just like Gru was an Outsider for liking the company of roaches. Gru and Maxime are basically the same character one stayed evil and the other one become good. Something that i personally quite enjoyed to see. Therefore calling him bad and/or boring just doesnt sit right with me. Despicable Me never had the World Domination Villains except for maybe the vicious 6 and el Macho. Gru strived for recognition of his Mother just like Vector strived for the same but just from his father. Bratt wanted to be famous in the same way as his movie character, if he had achieved lifting the town to space he may would have stopped being evil since he then, or sometime later did everything that his character did. Maxime wanted to punish his classmate for stealing his song and him admitting he did it on purpose, yeah maybe he was a bit harsh kidnapping his baby but they both were villains and we all know this "friend/colleague" that goes a bit to far. Scarlet Overkill just wanted to be Queen for once. And even El Macho had his Son, his family and wanted a former "colleague" to join in. No one is really all that bad in this universe, they all are meant to be funny, not terryfingly evil.
I watched the movie and i had some plotholes or well, some things i didnt understand why that happened or just “why” on despicable me 4: - Vector on Earth - dr nefario coming back at the end on the movie (he was frozen on despicable me 3) - The AVL had all the minions on their base and they didnt use it to protect gru family (the superhero minions were like filler on the movie for free jokes :v) - I find it funny of how Maxim *only* focus on Gru JR on the movie. I mean, Gru has his 3 adopted daughters too. Even if they’re not blood related, Gru cares about them. Why Maxim didnt focus on all of them? - Maxim have an HORDE of 🪳, probably much bigger army than the minions. He could use it against Gru, but……….it was only filler. - On the start of the movie, Gru goes to the class reunion of *Villains* (which are literally alot of villains). After Gru arrest it Maxim, i find it funny the other villains didn’t care. It’s like “Oh ok, take care of that 🪳, we don’t care you are *A FREAKING GOVERNMENT AGENT* .” - Why being a 🪳 is more important to win the best villain award than *STEALING THE FREAKING MOON* ?!
It’s probably not too much a stretch to assume the AVL just arrested Vector offscreen at some point. If Gru could go up to the moon with a handmade rocket with no proper funding, then surely the AVL could’ve gone up there to find Vector.
The last two could be explained by maxime being the principal's favorite student, so the contest was most likely rigged for him and the other guys knew but didn't dare to speak up about it, they then let gru arrest him since they all secretly found him annoying and didn't care as long as they were free to go
as far as not going after the girls my only thought is "we al ready know that's a bad idea just literally watch what happened when vector tried that and did let them go gru went from getting put through slapstick comedy to being a walking embodiment of "why do I hear boss music" for vector granted I haven't seen the 4th movie and the franchise to me suffered alot of sequel-itis first was great second was good third was very meh and kind of bland. as for the class reunion thing I mean gru despite his funding issues managed quite a bit and seemed like he could of been kind of a "he retired but he's still got it" kind of person in the villain circles at least in so far as they know not to get into a fight with him when he was a villain now he's an agent but he was only after 1 guy for reasons, tho in all fairness if someone with the reputation of say rattlesnake jake showed up and said he was only there for one person and he would leave... do you really want to start something over that? just be glad your not the name on the list
What I would have done was have whatever that guy’s name is have been driven to villainy by having an awful relationship with his father, make Gru scared that Gru Jr. could fall down a similar path if he fails as a father, and have a happy ending with Lucy and the Girls reassure him that he’s a great father.
The old principal in the wheelchair could have been a funny villain. Just the concept alone and her presence on screen was hilarious. WOW, thanks for all the likes
I think the 20 plots in this movie could have worked as like an 8 episode season on hbo or something. There were so many beats that went nowhere and were dropped that had potential.
Watching this movie with my friends was the worst mistake I've made this month. The five year old humour was the thing that made me hate it, we didn't even chuckle. I hate disney but they make movies enjoyable for all ages, unlike this style of movies where they so obviously want you to find the baby cute and the minions funny.
He had no real evil plan either than just to mess with Gru. He had so much at his disposal like his cockroach army and all his cool gadgets that they just forgot about.
Vector was a rival and a threat to Gru's family, El Macho was a real, genuine world threat in the making, Balthazar Bratt was a goddamn catastrophic event, and Scarlet Overkill was a threat to a very important world government. Maxime was just annoying. He isn't evil, he isn't creative, and he isn't anything close to a threat.
The movie felt too short for me. The fight scene was too early in the movie and it was slow and not that interesting. Maxime Le Mal would have probably been a descent villain but the fact that his literal story plot was a talent show? That’s just cheap and lazy. Edit: Wow that’s a lot of likes 😅

The fact that the Despicable Me franchise was carried by its memorable villains (trust me, they’re the best parts of the movies) and knowing the latest one is forgettable means that this franchise is at the point of going downhill and losing lots of steam. And that’s saying a lot knowing the franchise went from good to mediocre, but carried by the comedy and the boatloads of money, to seeing this. How did illumination botch their cash cow??
You're telling me the best part of Despicable Me 3 was Baltazar Blatt? Actually yeah that checks out, DM3 sucked and it's amazing they made a fourth...
Victor and El Macho are the GOAT, Scarlet Overkill was decent, and aldo, I didn't like Baltazar Blatt that much at least he was played well by one of the South Park guys which made him more enjoyable
The scene where he talks to his cockroaches reminded me of the time gru talked to his minions in the first movie. I thought there would be a parallel like: this is what gru could have become if it weren’t for his character arc or something
Exactly. He wasn't a bad villain. He had incredible potential and was a very interesting mad scientist mutant! Yup, the writers dropped the ball and added a bunch of ridiculous subplots and unnecessary characters that took away from him, when I was on the edge of my seat, hoping for more scenes with him, and a final battle between the cockroach minions and Gru's Minions! It's tragic...
i think the way they could make maxime a better villain is first to make him a dangerous insect like a mosquito or a wasp or even a spider, and make that actually make sense for his character instead of just being the "insect guy", and him actually being evil is that he and gru were best friends but when he found out gru became a good guy he just snaps and became an actual threat
@@soufianegamerpro I agree with you in many ways, though I still love Maxime because he is hysterical and has so much charisma and awesome potential as a villain. You named a lot of good points. I wish the writers had applied more entomology into the story, as Maxime is a mutated mad scientist with a literal army of bugs. I disagree with this video. Maxime is definitely not a "bad villain". It's merely a case of bad writing - too many subplots, too many unneeded characters just shoehorned in to take away from Maxime. You pretty much encapsulated what the writers could have done perfectly - if they had given the poor guy more screen-time and lore! They had that creepy "Poppy" kid just randomly jump in and take over 75% of the movie; now, she was boring and unnecessary. Just a typical bratty kid of the current age who spends 24/7 on the internet, and is a wannabe-villain and a simp for Gru. She blackmails Gru when he's supposed to be fighting Maxime, and he just goes along on this ridiculous subplot with her for most of the movie..? Oh, and Maxime's braindead sidekick - she needed to be completely written out as well... She was unfunny, boring, and just bleh... He didn't need her at all, just sitting there doing nothing but disliking him, applying lipstick, and petting her pooch. What happened to the cool bug minion army that disappeared??? I was hoping they and the Minions would face off... The writers really dropped the ball on this film that could have been absolutely incredible with Maxime as a mad entomologist-mutant as the villain, without throwing in about 6 different sub-plots and making him seem unimportant. I loved this movie for Maxime alone, and really wanted to see more of him. The special effects were fantastic! Poor Maxie...

I absolutely hate that the mega minions were created to search for Maxime and then they go do a bunch of superhero stuff and then retire and in the final battle they appear with a bunch of animals from their retiring stuff like WHAT THE FUCK WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE MEGA MINIONS they wasted so much potential in this fucking movie, only good scene was Poppy and Gru and Gru jr robbing the school mascot and that's it, I didn't even know the villain was a cockroach, when he first reveals his full body on the award thing it was so weird like what why, they never expand on it, kung fu panda 4 is waaay better than this shitshow
I felt completely lost in DM4. Several times throughout the movie, I had to ask myself "why is he the bad guy? and why is he hellbent on getting Gru?" The whole plot was weak because the villain had not proven to the audience that he was dangerous. The villain's only motive was to get revenge on Gru and that was it.
Gru from the first movie would’ve wiped the floor with Maxime in this movie, hell he’d do the same to himself from this movie too. I fully expected him to call Dr. Nefario to bring the ship and help get Junior back maybe echoing his air battle against Vector. Speaking of Vector, wasn’t it shown in a short that he was still stuck on the moon?
Honestly, no movies this year are worse than mega mind vs the doom syndicate. I still liked dm4 better than kfp4. It had better writing and the villian actually had a point to be bad unlike the chameleon who had literally no backstory whatsoever.
I think the video would have been better if you gave examples of WHY the previous villains succeeded where he failed Vector isn’t only funnier but is a actual presence during the movie (the bank scene, trying to get into his base, him taking the ray from gru, the cookie bot/stealing back the ray, his scene on the bank talking with his dad and showing his success over gru is a lot more shady than what it seems at first sight, him trying to stop Gru’s rocket, him kidnapping the girls and the final battle) he has multiple scenes to make himself a character. Also he’s like a direct insult to Gru and how his character is just “the new generation” trying to kick out the previous one by force while showing no real talent whatsoever (depending only on gadgets) at the end gru retired but not because of the competition but because he found something better to do with his life El Macho was a threat He had the biggest plan in the franchise so far, conquering the world with a indestructible evil army, and while he’s by far the villain with the least motivations besides “because I’m evil” he’s by far the smartest and most dangerous villain, his intro scene makes you know he’s a big deal. But he also has a unique interaction with Gru, el Macho respects Gru unlike Baltazar, Vector and Maxine which all just mock him El macho differences himself by not underestimating Gru, Máxine blends in because he just copy’s vector which Baltazar did better Baltazar had style and genuinely impressive gadgets, Máxime is just a cockroach (he doesn’t even get creative like in PPG cockroach villain having a mech made of cockroaches) you could change his design for anything else and nothing would be lost (seriously if he didn’t take off his coat I wouldn’t have realized that was his motif, at least vector had a shark and several sea life themed weapons) and has a good motive (hating Hollywood for abandoning him because he hit puberty) Meanwhile Maxine has a motive barely less stupid than the chameleon’s Also he had a actual rivalry with Gru since he got them fired from his job so he kidnaps his family with a admittedly surprising plot twist scene and the duel is full circle, meanwhile Maxim loses at the start and the end, compared with El Macho’s mutated form he should have been a cake walk Scarlet overkill has a actually great dynamic with her husband, meanwhile Maxine is decent but it feels like they could have taken her out of the movie and nothing would have changed. At least her husband was charismatic, supportive and a actually really nice guy (also reminded me of the Beatle’s) which is very unique for this franchise And finally… she was cool, every despicable me had that element of cool under the silliness Vector had the massive weaponry and shark El macho had his entire intro, genuine style (look at him dancing ) and the purple minions are a genuinely very cool concept I prefer over yellow minions Baltazar had a giant robot, made a ship fly with bubble gum, army of weird robot toys and he plays a Michael Jackson song on a heist. You can’t admit he isn’t a bit cool even if less than el Macho Scarlet shows skill and still since the beginning, and then she puts on a rocket mass weapon of destruction dress which is very cool Even the minion’s 2 villains had the transformations which weren’t that impressive but still better than Maxine (im refusing to properly say his name) He just had a cockroach mech which was beaten far easier than Brats, was smaller than brats and all that His plan to steal gru’s son is actually very cool and him trying to make Gru fall to his death is indeed suspenseful But compared to Vector’s fight on the sky at the finale of the first movie with the looming threat of the moon El macho’s massive army and Lucy being shot on a rocket filled with dynamite and a shake into the mouth of a active volcano while el macho fights with a giant monstrous form Scarlet sending a army of threatening villains to hunt the minions then trying to nuke everyone in England And even those of minions 2 had cool asthetic and the fake out death of Gru’s mentor, it had genuine tension Meanwhile in 4 they just fight in top of a construction place The only thing I give is how he has a good premise and his design reminds me of doofenshmirtz Somehow made a more mediocre villain than the ones of minions 2

I really thought that the final battle would be the mega minions vs the cockroach machine and gru vs maxime, but then I saw that the "final battle" was just maxime falling off a building. like hes LITERALLY SUPERHUMAN. A COMPLETELY NEW ARENA FOR THE FRANCHISE yet they do basically nothing with that. I also thought him tracking gru down would be done with cockroaches (you know his "theme") then again nothing. there were so many creative/fun ideas they kind of setup and then just did nothing with. like I thought there'd be a army of cockroach men at the end or something else related to the cockroach gun. but nope nothing.
I totally agree! You're absolutely right. I loved Maxime - he wasn't a "bad villain". He was a mutant mad scientist fashionista with a bug army! And his zany personality and charisma was so endearing and funny. He had so much potential! It's just that he didn't get any screentime or lore... The writers went off on like five unnecessary subplots. And too many unneeded scenes and characters -- like Poppy randomly taking over most of the movie with no connection to the main plot whatsoever, and the useless, boring, "duuhhhh" sidekick of Maxime, which the cool bug army could have replaced! Was also expecting more mutations, and the bug army fighting the minions... Poor Maxime. Amazing character which the writers dropped the ball on. 🤦🏻♀
They should’ve had all the past villains team up against Gru and the minions (kinda like how Regular Show did in Exit 9B) cause it would actually justify the need for the Mega Minions being relevant and they could’ve had an endgame like climax where all the minions fight the past villains and Gru faces off against Vector one last time also they really should’ve had the girls age and becoming more distant as most Kids do when they’re older from Gru and Lucy while they try to bond with them more as Parents do when their children seemingly become more distant, ALSO they should’ve replaced Poppy with Edith cause that roll fits her really well with the whole villainy stuff (minus the blackmailing part) while Lucy does some other wholesome stuff with Margot and Agnes
They could play it out like idk... he's afraid of the light, likes sweets, or that he has a whole army of cockroaches, or something else, like come on man..
Spoiler Alert: I watched the movie yesterday, and you were right about Maxime having an army of cockroaches, though I couldn't say the same for the other things you said
What did you think of Despicable Me 4?
It's a movie that leaves you with more questions than questions with satisfying answers. Why is the villain turning into a cockroach? What was the villain's backstory? Where's Dru? What was the point of all the tangential subplots that never left the characters they're featured in with lessons and added nothing to the main plot (which is also bad)? So on and so forth...
The animation is surprisingly pleasant to look at, I think that's where the budget went.

Yeah her and the other villains were in prison and that was it, yet this cockroach guy can easily escape the hardest prison??
Scarlet Overkill was honestly a great villain for a kid’s movie. She’s extremely power hungry and violent when she doesn’t get her way, while demonstrating a sinister and masked sense of pleasantness. She posed a legit threat to the Minions in her movie.
Ngl I love the minions because of her being a great villain and a real threat to the world with England’s military and her tech made from her husband btw she could even mask the fact she wanted to rip the minions apart and was being sweet so she can be givin a crown

I feel like they NEED to make a 3.5
Here's what I would've done to at least make Maxime a bit more threatening without changing much:
- Have Maxime injure some of the AVL agents during the opening scene of the film
- During the Gas Station scene, have the employee Maxime turns into a cockroach go through some body horror (like El Macho drinking the PX-41 serum from Despicable Me 2)
- Make his cockroach minions actually look intimidating
- Cut out the whole ending scene with Everybody Wants To Rule The World so Maxime doesn't even slightly get some type of "redemption" because quite frankly, he doesn't deserve it
- Change Gru Jr. being turned into a cockroach be a way to sorta taunt Gru by making him see his son go down the path of a villain instead of Maxime "wanting a son"
Tbh after watching the movie, I have a few more things to improve maxime:
-Let Gru fall off along with poppy onto the sea, so he can create a bigger mech that mega minions can help with him (instead of the mega minions rushing into him)
- Make the movie extended longer so we can see him free the villains from the despicable me franchise (kinda wish that they freaking age up the minions villains so that it makes sense they wouldn’t help him since they’re old and retired.)
-Make his cockroach minions do something, like helping him or something instead of here just for showing the audience that he’s a parallel of gru.
Nah, keep the “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” song. That was a banger.
But make Maxime do it for pragmatic reason.

Cockroaches = Can't die, right?
Make him this guy who hunts down his targets and no matter what you do to stop him, like a cockroach, comes back without a single scratch and becomes stronger, faster, smarter. Learns from his targets.
But in the end like a cockroach, gets squished back down when he's at his weakest.

ME TOO!! I love her
She was orginally planned as the villain
Maybe the movie can be improved by pruning an edit together that excludes the whole maxim and mega minions plots
(edit)
as for this random french dude, he sucks as a character. A cockroach? really? They aren't unstoppable. I ain't no scientist pr anything, but he could easily be avoided by carrying a can of Raid around with you.
"Ha! I've got you now!"
**sprays Raid*
"GAK!

But no, let's make a petty and incompetent bore of a villain
I think it would’ve been even more interesting to see that Maxine knew Gru as one of the more top villains. But seeing as he now joined the AVL and went from world second best villain (Because Vector shortly took over that title.), to world’s best agent. Then Maxine would offer Gru a chance to come back to villainy. But Gru would obviously reject him and get Maxine caught so Maxine would use the roaches to break free from prison and find out that Gru has a child. When I was in the theater the kids in the audience were glued to their seats during KFP4 but during DM4 multiple children dragged their parents out of the screening. I did not hear a single laugh during DM4 in an audience filled with kids.
Damn, even the kids don't want to watch.
Dam, i thought it was pretty good
@@koplogameYeah. This movie is only really bad if you look at it from a critical perspective in my opinion. But I consider this the second most entertaining of the franchise in terms of everything that happens throughout it.
Yep, the movie should've been better that when im in the cinema, there is barley people here
I also find the chameleon better than Maxine at least she was intimidating
Despicable Me 3 villian literally has a giant robot with the intent of sending hollywood in to literal space, and in the fourth installment has a bug man which doesn't use his bug army and a pretty short battle at the end and gets defeated in like 2 minutes
It really is starting to look like we've entered the era of terribly written films.
Would entire ai generated films be better or worse than this?

I'd like to add that most of the stuff that he did was left behind the scenes. How did he become the top villain? How did he create cockroach machine, and why is he the only one who didn't turn into an unconscious zombie? How did he escape from prison? How did he build everything while living in the sewers? How did he befriend cockroaches, and why do they have human-like cognitive abilities? All of that was left behind the scene
That's all a movie in itself
yeah, i really hated how everything felt so spontaneous. More context couldve made the villain more likable
They had will Ferrell!?!?!
Cockroaches having human intelligence is just typical cartoon logic.
My guess is that he's a "stinky poopoo Frenchman" so he's supposed to be evil and as disgusting as cockroaches. This would somehow make him immune to the cockroach machine and able to work with cockroaches.

Hard Agree to Disagree here, me and my fiancee just recently watched all of Despicable Me (including the two minions movies) as prep for Despicable Me 4.
All of the Movies a fun watch and none are all that bad. All around the 7-8/10 Points for me at least.
As short side Note, my Ranking of all 6 Movies :
1st - Despicable Me 2
2nd - Despicable Me 1
3rd - Despicable Me 4
4th - Minions 2 (The One with the vicious 6)
5th - Despicable Me 3 (The One with Dru)
6th - Minions 1 (The one with Scarlet Overkill)
Maxime Le Mal is not a bad (written) villain, he ist just a bad (evil) villain, in the same vein as Gru being a bad (evil) villain.
They had Will frickin' Ferrell and wasted him completely

@@Felix-sn4km Who can blame him?
I watched the movie and i had some plotholes or well, some things i didnt understand why that happened or just “why” on despicable me 4:
- Vector on Earth
- dr nefario coming back at the end on the movie (he was frozen on despicable me 3)
- The AVL had all the minions on their base and they didnt use it to protect gru family (the superhero minions were like filler on the movie for free jokes :v)
- I find it funny of how Maxim *only* focus on Gru JR on the movie.
It’s like “Oh ok, take care of that 🪳, we don’t care you are *A FREAKING GOVERNMENT AGENT* .”
- Why being a 🪳 is more important to win the best villain award than *STEALING THE FREAKING MOON* ?!

I think the 20 plots in this movie could have worked as like an 8 episode season on hbo or something. There were so many beats that went nowhere and were dropped that had potential.
The fact that they didn’t do their normal “it’s so fluffy I’m gonna die” quote either when it’s in the first three films was disappointing too
Watching this movie with my friends was the worst mistake I've made this month.

You're telling me the best part of Despicable Me 3 was Baltazar Blatt?

Victor and El Macho are the GOAT, Scarlet Overkill was decent, and aldo, I didn't like Baltazar Blatt that much at least he was played well by one of the South Park guys which made him more enjoyable
They botched it by putting a bunch of random ideas for a failed Despicable Me sitcom into one movie.
What if he controlled and made his cockroach army find Gru because cockroach’s are literally every where
The scene where he talks to his cockroaches reminded me of the time gru talked to his minions in the first movie.
It's tragic...
i think the way they could make maxime a better villain is first to make him a dangerous insect like a mosquito or a wasp or even a spider, and make that actually make sense for his character instead of just being the "insect guy", and him actually being evil is that he and gru were best friends but when he found out gru became a good guy he just snaps and became an actual threat
he should also has the ability to summon an army of insects to help him instead of an army that literally does nothing
I felt completely lost in DM4. Several times throughout the movie, I had to ask myself "why is he the bad guy? and why is he hellbent on getting Gru?" The whole plot was weak because the villain had not proven to the audience that he was dangerous. The villain's only motive was to get revenge on Gru and that was it.

but despicable me 4 compared to inside out 2 (masterpiece) it's not even close
Did Madame Webb come out this year? It was so bad that I don't even remember
@@waiken3727 I can agree with that. I’m just talking about my opinion on dm4.
I think the video would have been better if you gave examples of WHY the previous villains succeeded where he failed
Vector isn’t only funnier but is a actual presence during the movie (the bank scene, trying to get into his base, him taking the ray from gru, the cookie bot/stealing back the ray, his scene on the bank talking with his dad and showing his success over gru is a lot more shady than what it seems at first sight, him trying to stop Gru’s rocket, him kidnapping the girls and the final battle) he has multiple scenes to make himself a character. Also he’s like a direct insult to Gru and how his character is just “the new generation” trying to kick out the previous one by force while showing no real talent whatsoever (depending only on gadgets) at the end gru retired but not because of the competition but because he found something better to do with his life
El Macho was a threat
He had the biggest plan in the franchise so far, conquering the world with a indestructible evil army, and while he’s by far the villain with the least motivations besides “because I’m evil” he’s by far the smartest and most dangerous villain, his intro scene makes you know he’s a big deal. But he also has a unique interaction with Gru, el Macho respects Gru unlike Baltazar, Vector and Maxine which all just mock him
El macho differences himself by not underestimating Gru, Máxine blends in because he just copy’s vector which Baltazar did better
Baltazar had style and genuinely impressive gadgets, Máxime is just a cockroach (he doesn’t even get creative like in PPG cockroach villain having a mech made of cockroaches) you could change his design for anything else and nothing would be lost (seriously if he didn’t take off his coat I wouldn’t have realized that was his motif, at least vector had a shark and several sea life themed weapons) and has a good motive (hating Hollywood for abandoning him because he hit puberty)
Meanwhile Maxine has a motive barely less stupid than the chameleon’s
Also he had a actual rivalry with Gru since he got them fired from his job so he kidnaps his family with a admittedly surprising plot twist scene and the duel is full circle, meanwhile Maxim loses at the start and the end, compared with El Macho’s mutated form he should have been a cake walk
Scarlet overkill has a actually great dynamic with her husband, meanwhile Maxine is decent but it feels like they could have taken her out of the movie and nothing would have changed. At least her husband was charismatic, supportive and a actually really nice guy (also reminded me of the Beatle’s) which is very unique for this franchise
And finally… she was cool, every despicable me had that element of cool under the silliness
Vector had the massive weaponry and shark
El macho had his entire intro, genuine style (look at him dancing ) and the purple minions are a genuinely very cool concept I prefer over yellow minions
Baltazar had a giant robot, made a ship fly with bubble gum, army of weird robot toys and he plays a Michael Jackson song on a heist. You can’t admit he isn’t a bit cool even if less than el Macho
Scarlet shows skill and still since the beginning, and then she puts on a rocket mass weapon of destruction dress which is very cool
Even the minion’s 2 villains had the transformations which weren’t that impressive but still better than Maxine (im refusing to properly say his name)
He just had a cockroach mech which was beaten far easier than Brats, was smaller than brats and all that
His plan to steal gru’s son is actually very cool and him trying to make Gru fall to his death is indeed suspenseful
But compared to Vector’s fight on the sky at the finale of the first movie with the looming threat of the moon
El macho’s massive army and Lucy being shot on a rocket filled with dynamite and a shake into the mouth of a active volcano while el macho fights with a giant monstrous form
Scarlet sending a army of threatening villains to hunt the minions then trying to nuke everyone in England
And even those of minions 2 had cool asthetic and the fake out death of Gru’s mentor, it had genuine tension
Meanwhile in 4 they just fight in top of a construction place
The only thing I give is how he has a good premise and his design reminds me of doofenshmirtz
Somehow made a more mediocre villain than the ones of minions 2
1:00 if you were considering more than just 2024 then Shrek 4 and Toy story 4 got you two more nickles 😅

The final climax was so boring and he never uses his fucking bugs. Like if he uses that, it'll despicable me 4 Part 2
They could play it out like idk... he's afraid of the light, likes sweets, or that he has a whole army of cockroaches, or something else, like come on man..
