Transgender writer, streamer, activist, and media nerd--my name is Kavi, my pronouns are he/him/his, hx/hxm/hxs, and xe/xim/xis. I love all kinds of media like TV shows, animation, movies, podcasts, video games, books, etc. Particularly, I like analyzing them through the lenses of queer theory, but I mainly just enjoy breaking down stories and characters that I love and gushing about how much I appreciate them.

Your Fave is Trans: Lake from Infinity Train (Character Analysis)
I love this video. However some points are a little strange with the fact the movie ends with their parents getting married
I think theg have more of a sister relationship
You should def make more infinity train videos, they’re goated
Some book series with Trans characters are the Bone Witch Trilogy by Rin Chupeco and the Dragoneye Reborn Series by Alison Goodman.
That’s awesome, thanks for sharing!
32:41 lmao the gender sword
my friend Tom who edited this video included so many great visual gags like that 😂
I did hear that the creators said they didn't make it with that in mind, but they were perfectly comfortable if people treated it as such.
I think you forgot about the Fart car!
This is a very funny comment to get on a video I made three years ago lol 😅
@@OmgItsKavi heh, sorry just now saw it. Good video though!
With the mention of Mebh and Robyn being together, when they're living outside of society and outside of the binary, it doesn't really matter what people think or label them as, they're just together as much as they are!
This movie screams puppy love (pun absolutely intended)
Hi! I was actually honored enough to be able to attend a virtual seminar with the directors of this film! They answered my question about there being queer subtext in the film, and they said that it was intentional and very important to some of the people working on the film! Great video! <333
Wow, that’s amazing you got to attend a seminar with them and ask a question! Thank you for sharing your experience and the kind words, glad you enjoyed the video!! 💚
I mean, I guess you can see the movie in this way. However, I see them more as sisters.
Wow... This thing is literally Silent Hill on wheels... NO THANKS. Gonna go to a regular therapist instead. Much less chance of being brutally tormented and then horrifically killed.
I saw this film just after coming out as trans in December 2020. Even before I saw it, the full trailer gave me huge trans vibes, and I was SO HOPING I wasn't seeing something that wasn't there. And dear lord, the trans theming is just EVERYWHERE. It's amazing! And that's only just one layer of what makes it such a good movie. It's genuinely the most gorgeous film I've ever seen, by a landslide. It immediately became my all time favorite film, a 10/10 masterpiece. I cried multiple times! 😭💜
Lake is not a Trans character. Lake does not identify as transgender: she is never shown rejecting her gender, she does not correct anyone when they use female pronouns to describe her, and she does not choose to change her pronouns. Her Name M.T comes from her cannon name Mirror Tulip and when she changes it to Lake it is because of an off comment from Jessie about the Lake near his home in an earlier episode. Additionally, Lake's change of appearance is more to disguise herself while on the run as well as to further separate herself from Tulip. Since she is Tulip's reflection they could be more akin to Twins or siblings. It is quite common for siblings, and twins to make changes to clothes, hairstyles and other aspects of appearance to stand out or be seen as someone else. As well as choose nicknames for themselves as they grow up. These actions do not make a person Trans and Lakes' frustration and outbursts of anger do not come from social rejection, she has plenty of good friends who already accept her such as One-One, Tulip herself and Alan Dracula. They come from the stress of being hunted down as she will die if she is caught. At the end of her arc she is able to trick One-One into letting her off the train and live in the human world. Going by all this. Lake is not trans, she did defy the social norm by leaving the train, but that does not mean she is automatically Trans as many non-transgender people are always breaking away and defying expectations. It was the LGBTQ+ community and not the creators of the show who stated she is not trans. Lake is just a well-written, strong female character that many can relate to and has a strong story attached to her. This is why many people in and out of the LGBTQ+ community Trans project on her and relate to her character.
I ain't reading allat. Happy for you tho Or sorry that happened
Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this video. Good work 👍
Thank you!!
Thank you for sharing this! I knew next to nothing about the series when I first watched it, but I immediately clocked (ha) that Lake's story was a trans allegory, and experiencing Lake's journey actually played a small part in me coming to terms with the fact that I'm also trans. It's so gratifying to see other queer folk interacting with this truly special story and relaying their own experiences, so thank you for that. I do disagree with one thing in particular: I don't see Mace's argument as intentionally manipulative / gaslighting. Yes, he's trying to attack her sense of reality, but my read is that's because he has completely dedicated himself to the disinvestment of ALL reflections' identities. Like a cis person vehemently lashing out against trans/nb folk for simply existing, Mace sees the existence of someone like Lake as inherently absurd because her existence threatens his ideological project and the rigid segmentation of reflections from primes. Everything he says about the train and the circumstances of her emergence from Tulip are completely true, the difference comes from a fundamental philosophical disagreement on the very nature of personhood: Mace denies Lake's in exactly the same way that he denies his own, because to do otherwise would be to challenge his entire world view and the order it provides (the order from which he benefits) from the bottom up. If Lake has to challenge the entire world to validate her existence, then that's what she's going to do.
Great points. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yeah, I would love to turn into a cat when I sleep. (As an Irish demigirl lesbian, I think I have a new favorite movie!!!)
Awesome! Also side note, I love your profile pic shoutout to Super Paper Mario hehe
@@OmgItsKavi Thank you!!! Still holding out for a switch port of SPM
I... didn't expect this to be such a high quality deep dive into this film. Thank you!
This is really fascinating
this movie will forever be the most magical thing i have ever watched :)
Fire ♨now 🌼😄
Darn, this video is underrated
Thank you! I'm still quite proud of this one 💚
18:08 I know the planned fifth season/movie was supposed to be about Amelia and Hazel, and I've always just thought "yeah, that would be neat" but hearing your analysis of their stark contrasts in how they handled the death of a loved one...... now I'm kinda heartbroken that we won't get any continuation of this. T_T
I finally watched the first 2 episodes and dude Im so excited!!! I have to make it for the stream this week!
You truly said my thoughts and feelings on this
The fact that Robyn was originally going to be a boy and the filmmakers have stated they didn't rewrite much of her dialogue to reflect this change makes me wonder. If nothing about the story was different other than Robyn being a boy, would more people read her relationship with Mébh as being romantic?
If we interpret the father and mother end with each other as well. They would end up being step brothers and sisters
Loved this movie, I watched it with my younger sister and her boyfriend and I LOVED the fashion 💖💖💖 Also, it’s been a while since I last watched one of your videos and just wanted to say I really like your voice 🥺
The fashion was definitely awesome, you can tell they put a lot of thought into it! Also omg thank you so much, that is so kind of you to say?? 😭🙏🏽💚 Appreciate the comment!
hello! I love both formats, and I would really encourage you to choose the format of your videos and their topics how you like. I love gwen, so it would be fun to see your perspective on her character too :)
Thanks for the comment! I actually wrote a bit about Gwen on my blog and I have more to say so I plan to do a video that expands more on my thoughts, as well. If you go to the "Community" tab on my channel you'll find a link to the post if you want to read it (:
@@OmgItsKavi will do! thank you :D
Hi! First I guess? I think this format is as nice as the other so I don't mind, do what you're comfortable with. I liked the Barbie movie a lot, an interpretation I saw several times is that Barbara is aromantic or asexual or both, but she could be anything, that's kinda the point (and that's also why we didn't saw what career path she ended up choosing).
Yeah, I absolutely interpreted her as aro/ace as well actually! I had tweeted about it earlier but forgot to actually mention it in the video. Thanks for watching and commenting!
isnt her race nonbinary since they can mirror everything ?
I haven’t heard of either of these people, likely because I don’t watch talk shows and don’t have cable, but it was so fun watching you react to their episodes 👏👏👏
Glad you enjoyed the video even if you were unfamiliar with the source material! Thanks for watching and commenting (:
Wolfwalkers is my Fav movie
It felt much more as a neurodivergent and queer film to me, then them being lovers or anything Idk
Yeah because Being a wolfwalker is like having autism or ADHD and relatable to me as a Therian in that way, like experiencing sudden changes, shifting and transformation into a wild animal being free and able to feel things most humans can’t and discover things you never knew you could do! I can’t put this into words, so I’m sorry for the horrible language. This movie’s really about mysteriously embracing magical spirits of nature like complex, hyperactive misunderstood and deeply emotional animals like wolves and us with a different body and nervous system, seeing from a crazy new perspective and accepting you’ll never be the norm of what society expects from you and that’s beautiful
Sorry my writing is bad 😿
@@frollealabanks2020 no it isnt its wonderfully done ❤ I love it and I totally get it
@@user-zx4qn1uz2s 🥹💜
omg sometimes youtube doesn't show me all my comments so i'm just seeing this but just want to say that i love this interpretation, as someone who is also neurodivergent!
i ship them but if they were at the same age snice mebh is jus 9 years old and robin is 12 so i also see them as sisters
Something that I only realized recently- Another allegory in the show is that the train, while it represents different things at different times, also represents Lake’s home. They’re escaping an abusive household. One that would have gotten them killed if they didn’t, literally, have the helping hand of a friend who WANTED to help them escape. Who offered them a haven from the torture of where they came from. It’s also not like getting off the train means Lake isn’t gonna have problems- it’s just a different, probably less violent set of problems. Like when Jesse’s little brother ogles them. The Flecks represent the cops, an abusive/controlling family, but also the inner demons of trans people who, if they’re not able to get out of a bad situation in time… never get out of that situation. Not all, and it’s implied none, of the other “slivers” were able to escape the train. (Why else would the flecks exist if there haven’t been others?). They died running from the flecks. *Many of us* have died running from the flecks.
I needed this video
I love coming back to this video over and over again. As someone who relized queer identity very early in life there are many things I relate in this movie. This is such a great Analyzis for an amazing movie.
Oh wow, I'm so glad you like the video! It truly is an amazing movie. Thank you for the kind comment!!
This is an AMAZING meditation on this film!
Thank you!! 🥰
Funfact in the artbook they say that the original line, that after became "work is prayer" was "womenly work is godly work" who seems to reinforce even more the gender binary
Yeah I saw that and thought, "I wish I could've seen that before I made the video!" 😅
I mean, a girl discovering a side of herself she didn't know when meeting another girl and hiding it from her intolerant peers... That's like a whole metaphor that I did notice the first time I watched this film (and that you'll probably talk about in more details than I can in this video). EDIT: Welp, I thought at the time that I may have read too much into it, but it turns our I wasn't reading deep enough XD Holy cow! There was so much more in there than I even suspected. Now about my thoughts of what I noticed in this film and you didn't mentioned: I also noticed the lineart of the characters that you didn't mentioned: at the beginning of the movie, Robyn's (and Bill's) lines are clear and defined while Mebh have a sketchy look to her. And as she discovers more about herself, Robyn becomes more and more sketchy as well (which allows a more fluid animation since there were less steps between the initial drawings and the final animation). Also, this is my interpretation about Bill: his arc is going from being tamed to being free, from a hound dog, to an "army dog" (that even ends up in a leash near the end of the film) to a full on wolf after breaking his chains. Another reviewer I watched mentioned that the film may be also referrencing "the Irish travellers", a group of nomadic people coming from Ireland that may have been forced on the road by the british conquest of the 1600's. The carriage at the end of the film ressembling a traveller's carriage... Just another piece of info I wanted to share.
