    I don't know how much this will help, but if you ever start feeling self conscious about ur muscles, look up pictures of Sarena Williams!! She's ripped as all hell and HOLY SHIT HAS THAT GIRL GOT IT GOIN ON. Super cute thick thighs that give me life? ✅CHECK Arms that could make a Greek god jealous? CHECK Abs that u could literally grate cheese on?? ✅CHECK Still literal goals??? ✅FUCKIN YEAH!!!
    Sometimes you gotta fight your bad habits with doing the same thing... just a bit different. Instead of telling yourself "I really shouldn't compare myself to stick thin runway models" have yourself look up other beautiful women that share your features and appreciate the beauty that you two share!!! You're so incredibly beautiful Stef, I wish you always saw yourself the way we see you💞

      I never seen anyone say women with muscles were unattractive in my life, I heard guys say they were scared of getting into a fight with a beefed up woman.
      But mostly what I seen was guys like attracted to women like that in a different way like a need to feel dominated, I know not the ultimate goal of being a woman but there are a ton of guys out there like that too.

    My daughter is Gender Fluid and has periodic gender dysphoria. It is not limited to Trans, it can apply to anyone who identifies as non-binary.

    • @sundeity4
      @sundeity4 8 лет назад +22

      i know some nb(non-binary) people dont identify as transgender and thats fine its how they identify. but, coming from another nb person, i believe we are trans as the definition of transgender is not identifying with the gender you were assigned at birth.

      Transgender is actually an umbrella term, and usually incorporates non binary individuals.

    • @JudiWhitacre
      @JudiWhitacre 7 лет назад +42

      Seriously?! Non- binary is very much real, and my daughter is 100% fine, no matter what she identifies as. She is human and does not need YOUR approval/ belief or anyone else's to be who she is. Thanks, but no thanks.

    • @JudiWhitacre
      @JudiWhitacre 7 лет назад +24

      Non-binary doesn't need to be scientifically quantified. Non-binary is a concept that means you do not identify as being only one of the 2 polar genders. There is nothing to quantify or prove. It is a state of being.

    When I get top dysphoria, it's a little weird, but I take off my shirt. Not like, outside, I haven't figured that out yet, but if I'm alone, I feel much better. It's even better if you're in bed, because you can pull the covers all the way up and pretend there's something/nothing there, depending on your preference. I also like listening to every Panic! At The Disco and Black Flag song ever made on a giant playlist, and I have these books called The Art Of Being Normal and George which really make me feel better.

    • @august1451
      @august1451 8 лет назад +7

      Oh, and I also do the thing where I make myself look cute. I wear one of my jumpers or my black formal shirt, my black jeans and my flower crown, and basically look as androgynous as possible. It's hard to find cures for my kind of dysphoria, because I'm agender, and there's no such thing as a cis agender person, but I'm figuring stuff out.

    • @zanderjayy
      @zanderjayy 8 лет назад +4

      Hey, another agender person here! Woohoo! To add to this, everyone deals with it differently. Personally, when I get really dysphoric I like to put on some chill music and put a crap ton of makeup on and take a load of selfies and remind myself that not having a gender isn't indicative of how I like to present. Everyone is different

    • @firefly8559

      +Percy Prior-Everdeen heck yeah more agender people!! Just wanted to say that that sounds cute/handsome as hell! I hope that your dysphoria goes away soon~

      One more agender person! I'm so happy to see others here. For the longest time, I tried to tell myself that what I was experiencing wasn't dysphoria but just lack of confidence. Now I'm finally at a point where I'm trying to find ways to ease the anxiety it gives me.
      My dysphoria grates my nerves because it's never about the same things. Sometimes it's because I have breasts, and I want them gone. Or I want to be more muscular. Other days, it's I wish I had a more defined waist and a longer neck. I'm getting a binder to help with the breast situation on the days it shows up. Other than that, I'm not sure what to do.

      So do I .I think it's because we can't feel anything on our chest

  • @ElaMongrella
    @ElaMongrella 7 лет назад +31

    That's how I feel about my breasts. I don't want them. I am envious of flat chested people. I can sometimes ignore them and pretend I look as gender-neutral as I feel, but then I look down, or see my reflection, or see a picture of myself, and I hate it. I hope to save up enough to be able to get rid of them, so I can look the way I feel.

    • @ElaMongrella
      @ElaMongrella 7 лет назад +3

      They're way too big for binding, sadly. Such a waste really, for them to be on someone who doesn't want them.

      Ela Mongrella, I'm FtM and female puberty wrecked my self image and my chest. I am really, very top heavy. I haven't worn a 'real' bra in at least a decade, so I don't even know my measurements, but I'm guessing DD?
      I feel the same about mirrors and pictures. But you can only play the photographer for so long before friends and family complain that they don't have any pictures with you in frame.
      I finally couldn't take the top dysphoria, broke down and bought a binder. I was so worried that none of them would make any difference at all.
      I bought the Underworks 997. My only regret is that I didn't buy one sooner! Binder, plus shipping and handling, was under $40 USD.
      I'm not flatFLAT, but I am flatter than I have been since I was 12 years old and knowing that has helped so much with my dysphoria. Along with patterned shirts, button ups and/or layering, I do appear flat chested.
      It's a love hate relationship with my binder, I love how I look, hate wearing it and resent that I need it, but honestly? It's an immense improvement.

    I'm glad that someone has a similar experience. Like I totally get that sometimes things irk me and somethings not so much. A few nights back I had a complete meltdown in the shower and ended up scratching myself a lot, but sometimes before a shower I'll look in the mirror and it'll still irk me but not to the point where it drives me to scratch myself all around because of frustration and anger and sadness. Great video !! :)

    It's like feeling suddenly distressed that you don't have the right tools for the situation and you DESPERATELY NEED THEM! ...at least that's how it feels for me... Like my body has short-changed me of something important.
    Steph, keep with the breathing. ^_^ I've had good luck with breathing and meditation and yoga in coping with and lessening the severity of my GAD - and also in moving passed my moments of dysphoria. I'm glad to hear it's helping you too. Anxiety attacks are just SO not fun, and just learning how to breathe can be such a boon in lessening their severity, frequency, and triggers.
    Sending you good vibes and well wishes!

    Im glad you specified and said "Don't game too much". Because at one point in my life i spent all my available time playing video games. It was all I thought about and dreamt about. So you have to be careful becausse like anything else, escapism can become an unhealthy addiction. You come to depend on it and can't find happiness within your self. I still game but since I've gotten treatment for OCD, depression and anxiety I'm no lnger obsessively gaming.

    I do a lot of the same things to cope with my dysphoria. Lower surgery is now my long term goal, now that I've had top surgery. Breathing exercises, meditation, music, and responsible escapism with video games when my health allows. Before my top surgery binding lessened my dysphoria of my chest, but never fully got rid of it, hence why I had surgery. That part is so much better now. Now it's all about the lower half. For now packing and stand to pee aids help lessen my lower dysphoria. But still like she said, it can come and go and when it hits it came just really knock you down. I started my transition in 2001 and I didn't think I was ever going to be able to get any of the surgeries I needed. I'm on disability and barely receive enough to pay the rent, power bill, and co-pay for my medications. So for the longest time all I had done was started testosterone. I had to work very hard on my coping techniques otherwise I would have given up and never would have gotten to where I am now. I have some hard work ahead of me, but hopefully I will be able to improve my health so I can have lower surgery.
    Anyway, I rambled way to much. XD Great video! And I thought you did a good job of explaining how dysphoria effects you and using that to better explain exactly what it is for people. :)

    oh my goodness Stef I relate to this video SO MUCH. I'm a transgirl myself and have been on HRT for 3.5 months, and I experience dysphoria just like you explain in this video. when I am able to have time to do my hair and spend the hour+ that it takes to do my makeup (I've learned so many makeup tips from you!) then I can totally go out and be in public with people and feel comfortable and confident and like I see myself in the mirror, but there are of course those days that I don't have time for makeup or to make myself look cute, and on those days when I see my reflection I immediately get super anxious and overwhelmed, exactly like you said, and I don't feel comfortable in my own skin. even on days when I can do makeup, which is most days thankfully, I know at the end of the day when I have to take off my makeup that I won't be able to like what I see in the mirror, and that's something that is so hard to get across to people who aren't trans.

    OMG did I ever need to hear this now. I am not trans but as you said anyone can have dysphoria. I have other situations and issues that cause it and realized that this is part of what is going on with me now. I too recommend escapism just don't stay there. Mindfulness also helps a lot and there is no harm in putting an issue on the closet shelf (so to speak) and taking it down and looking at it after escapism. S.M.A.R.T goals.

    anxiety is a big struggle of mine. yours and mine are for different reasons,yours dysphoria, mine always worried something bad will happen. I haven't done box breathing but something similar. in 5,hold 5,out 5,repeat. breath normal then do it again. distraction I was always told was not something you should do because then your avoiding....but now that I'm learning more and talking to someone new distraction is amazing to help calm you and think clearly and then go back to the situation that makes you anxious. I also meditate everyday to help with my anxiety. I used to do 2 mins every day sometimes twice. now I've been doing it for 5months and I meditate up to 20 mins a day and it feels amazinggg!

I know you said this was related to gender dysphoria, however it is relevant and relatable to Body Dysmorphic Disorder. I could feel and relate to some of the sensations and feelings you were describing. I am in recovery from BDD and watching you with your soothing voice has been a positive experience. Thank you, you really an empowering and inspirational young woman.

    I've had dysphoria for almost 24 years now and it's getting harder to wake up. I'm Afraid to be open because of what people might think friends, family, co workers etc. I'm also 26 and feel like I'm too old to transition so I just drink and do alot of drugs and my life gets mired in chaos. It's just getting harder.

    I'm one of your fans who thinks you're absolutely beautiful!! I really, really, love your make up tutorials when you remove all of your make up. It shows us fans that you are just a regular person, like us, with your own insecurities. My niece recently moved in with us and she experiences dysphoria at least once a day. She has wide shoulders and thick arms. She's extremely beautiful and there are days, like you (and probably everyone else in the world unless they're narcissistic lol), when she looks at herself and feels very confident in her beauty. I'm going to show her this video after she gets home from school. I love that this is a subject that you chose to talk about. It helps me to better understand where she's coming from. I also LOVE that even though you had lipstick on your teeth you still posted this video. :) I know that you're a 'regular' person like the rest of us but there are things that you do that shows that. I love you and I think you're amazing!!! Thank you for being you, Stef, and for sharing your experiences with the rest of us. :)

    It reminds me of people who are extremely self conscious of their appearances and have cosmetic surgeries. Sometimes I'm very conscious of my strabismus and feel really low but sometimes I don't even think about it. Getting surgery to correct it would be my ultimate solution. The box breathing thing is good, I'll try to keep it in mind the next time I get really anxious.

    The box visualisation breathing technique sounds useful, thank you for sharing it! The main problem when people get caught up in any form of panic is often that they don't exhale properly, so they get even more panicked trying to breathe in more air which results in hyperventilation. The most common advice given, thusly, is "deep, slow breathing". However, when people are in a panic, this advice seems absurd. So instead, what's helpful for some is to hold their breath for a moment. The box thing incorporates that, which is nice. :) It reconnects you to the physical level of yourself and so helps sustain that connection by active visualisation.

    I sing and hum when I'm happy and it helps prevent me from being overwhelmed. If I feel I am becoming overwhelmed sometimes I will literally sing what I'm suppose to be doing to get my mind on track. Breathing helps. Also if all fails a good "power cry" doesn't hurt. Fortunately.. or unfortunately I was brought to show my emotions and I cry when I'm upset... sometimes I won't feel better until I get it out.

    I'm really happy you made a video about this. i usually explain it to people to give them something to base the concept on as the opposite of euphoria. I've always experienced it as a sort of separation of my body and pretty much everything else leading to an all encompassing feeling of wrongness, most often happening in public places.

    I'm an anxiety and depression sufferer and I have had that box breathing technique shown to me. It does help me sometime but it was literally the only helpful thing the mental health specialist gave me. Literally the therapist I saw told me to "get over it" when I explained some of the things that gave me anxiety attacks. I don't think I have dysphoria and I'm pretty sure I'm not Trans but your box breathing made me remember that unprofessional professional from my past.

    I hope the dysphoria lessens out in the next few months Stef!!
    I'm dealing with the same thing to but the opposite way around and I'm only 14 so it's sucks knowing I have to wait to start t until I'm 18 because I know I'm not telling my muther about this because hearing their views one time on being transgender. It's so easy to hide on the internet with my friends who'll call me Michael and sometimes Mikey but I just nervous because I'm seeing my friend Leah in December and even though I've posted some pictures of me but it's my voice and my body the most and my mother doesn't have time for the gym so I work out by running around my house alot and having a lot of protein. I just hope to look better before then.
    Woah sorry-- I just wanting to get this out my chest.

      Yo Michael!
      Layering clothes and baggy pants (or pants that are too big and a belt lol) really help :)
      Also, you can just "put on a voice" and seriously your voice will become deeper and more "manly".
      Keep on keeping on, you can do this! ^^

      I lived as a tomboy until I had the guts to confess but the dysphoria becomes cruel sometimes. Big tshirts and hoodies will hide your top and hips pretty good so you can feel a bit more confident in public. A binder helps many trans guys that grows a bigger chest, luckily I stayed pretty flat so tight sport bras and/or tight tops kinda keeps everything from bouncing when I am active. (huge trigger of mine). But if you want a binder I recommend waiting until you are a bit older, bad injuries happens with binders to the ribcage if worn too much and since you are still growing the risk is even higher. Lately I've been into flannel shirts too, it feels great to shop guy shirts :) And there are boxer panties so to your parents it's "normal" girl clothes and to you it's not "cute" but feels more guyish. They are super comfy! Short hair helps me too but I wasn't ready to take that leap until I was 25. It's the little things.. :)

    About the breathing thing: it's an absolutely great technique (coming from someone with anxiety) but also remember to practice breathing when relaxed! It'll train your body associate your breathing technique with calmness and it'll help you come down from your anxious state faster.

    Stef, for the arm grabbing, nail polish ripping starts, I use my tangle toy. Look those up on amazon. It helps with the physical anxiety and has saved me $$$ in manicures. It's not ment to be a cure but playing with one does help when the panic/anxiety symptoms hit.

    Wherever you go, there YOU are. You can't escape YOU - what you are inside and out, no matter what you mutilate or change physically, the discomfort is with in you. The challenge in life is simply accepting who you are, inside out. It's normal to feel "confused" or lost at your age - that's what's so great about getting older! And what sucks about getting older, is that for some, looks fade. But again, it's about seeking peace within no matter who you are in this lifetime. Good luck!
