How to Connect Granny Squares with Flat Slip Stitch Crochet Method

- Have you wondered how to connect granny squares together?
In this video I'll show you how to connect granny squares together using the flat slip stitch crochet method. It's an easy technique that allows you to make your work look nice and neat. Plus the chain stitches give your work some 3D texture. There's no sewing involved with this one, except the normal weaving in of ends.
I'm using a size H 5 mm crochet hook for my sample and worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn. Feel free to use any other size yarn and hook for your granny squares and slip stitches.

Just working a granny square for the first time and needed to know how to connect.. perfect timing 🥰
Glad it was helpful!
Perfect timing for me as well Donna. Im nearly finished 100 squares and was wondering how to join them without sewing. 🎉
Thank you for sharing. I used make whole blanket. Maybe I do that now that I have arthritis in my hand and hurt some time I have to take a brake
...and I am looking how to start a granny square... And how to do rounds, circular crochet... Do you have them too, please?
I like how that looks! So much better than sewing the squares together! Thanks!
It does!
I love how this looks! I'm gonna do my next granny squares this way.
Happy to help!
Thank you Donna this is a great way to connect the squares. I really love it. It looks so neat and with a contrast colour it highlights the squares ❤❤
Thanks so much 😊
Happy New Year 2024 Donna! Thanks for this tutorial. ❤

This is my favorite way to join granny squares!!!
Awesome!
Donna. I like that way of connecting the grnny squares.
Thank you very much!
Love this method of connecting granny squares. I have started making G.S. out of a bunch of hand dyed sock weight mini skeins I have collected. I think the end product is going to be a sweater set together with black. Wasn’t sure quite how I was going to connect and this popped up. Thanks so much.
Awesome! Love sock weight yarn!
I love that it’s decorative as I hate trying to make them sit nicely by the hiding it methods
Good point!
Very beautiful and interesting 🤗
Thank you! Cheers!

This is super! Thank you for sharing! I’m new to granny squares… what would you recommend if one granny square has one extra stitch?
Thank you! If your granny squares are off a bit, I generally just try to line the squares up at the top and bottom, which are the two most important parts. Then in between, if you need to skip over a stitch or two to make it work, it really won't be noticed with this method, because your eyes focus on the 3D chain stitch, instead of if a stitch was skipped.
Thank you so very much!,, 🧶💗

Hi Donna, could you please share the pattern of the Granny Squares shown in the video? Thanks.
Yes, the full step-by-step tutorial for this granny square is located here: ruclips.net/video/iIfAVBi-rro/видео.html
Hi! I'm kinda confused- is the 'outside' loop supposed to be the front loop? or back loop? trying to making this for my patchwork sweater.
I’m currently doing this on a granny square sweater.
Be careful when you get to the intersection not to accidentally flip your square to the back side if you’ve crocheted your squares without flipping each round and you actually have a front side and back side.
Hello! What if I'd like to add a sc border? Then I just have to make a sc into that ch 1 space and then another into the next ch 1 space which is on the other granny square. So I just skip that flap slip stitch seam. Is that ok? Thank you for the video!😁😊
There are several different ways of handling that, depending upon how you crochet, the thickness of the yarn around the border, and the look you are trying to achieve. In theory, if there was no flat slip stitch and you just sewed the granny squares together, you would have the corner of the one and the corner of the other. You'd probably put 1 SC in the one corner then go right over to the other corner for the next SC. Or you could also put a SC in the sewn seam area too. So, to answer your question, you can skip over that flat seam, or, you can put a SC in it along its edge, if you have room and it doesn't add too much bulk or curl to the area.
@@naztazia Thank you so much for the fast answer! It helps me a lot, so thank you again:D❤️
🌹😍👌👏👏👏👏
I did a granny square with a single crochet boarder and in the corners I have 3 single crochets which crochet in the corner do I start with the second or third ?
Normally I connect those second middle single crochet stitches together first. So if you are starting at the bottom of a granny square, I usually start with that second middle single crochet stitch in the corner. Then work my way over to the second middle single crochet stitch in my next granny square. If for some reason that doesn't look right, or it bunches up or something, there's no problem with starting with the third single crochet on both squares instead. Oftentimes the thickness of the yarn is a huge factor in the decision making process.
