I prefer the 3rd method but I would say the 2 Outer loops instead of the frontloop and backloop. It confuses me. I love all your videos. You are very clear with your instructions. 🙂
I am extremely curious as to why you only go on the back or inside loops. How come not both?? That’s the only way I’ve ever done it because I feel like it’s a stronger hold.
Just wondering, would these techniques work the same if being done on knitted granny squares? I'm making a blanket for my daughter and already have loads of squares made but none of the knitting techniques to join them look right and I wondered if crocheting like this would work
What if your corners have 3 chains and you are using the slip stitch join? It seems like you would have one extra chain hanging around. I know now that I will do 2 chains the next time, but I had 10 squares done before I heard to do it that way.
You can adapt it - slip stitch in 2 of the chains one way and the remaining 1 chain on the opposite way OR you could slip into the middle ch effectively twice (if you wanted to be even each way) - 1 chain here or there isn't going to make a vast difference to your finished piece :)

Thanks for these options but I think I prefer to use the needle to join squares seamlessly. It doesn't take away from the pattern then. I appreciate you showing more options though.
Don't get me wrong, sewing definitely has it's place and is awesome when you use the tails of the squares themselves but ughhh I'm just too lazy 😂 If I can avoid it, I absolutely will LOL x

@@HookedbyRobin I have a question, I am working on a pdf pattern I purchased on etsy that calls for 3 different hook sizes, it is an older pattern, the blocks use an I hook, the border an h hook and joining calls for an f hook. I am worried that it will warp my blocks, because it calls for a zig zag slip stitch
@ashortyb411 I'm not Robin, and wonder if you finished in the time between then and now, but I've found that most often when it calls out a smaller hook, they want tougher stitches. You don't have to use the f, I personally would use the h hook and just watch my tension. Oh, and you will need 3X the length of your seam for the yarn.
Hello! First I have to say I love your tutorials!! Your explanations and showing are perfect for me. I feel even on the harder ones I'd be successful as a novice because of how well you explain things. As for your actual question, I do like all three, each one I was like oh I like that, then the second was og, I like that more, and so on. Someone else said that it would depend on the overall look you were going for and I agree wholeheartedly with that comment. But, the third on was my favorite.
Thank you so much Emmy, that is so kind of you. I am so pleased you like my videos.🥰 Yes definitely! Each one lends itself well to different projects.x
I promptly moved on from amigurumi to crocheting other things for the exact same reason - the constant sewing, stuffing, assembly etc. got on my nerves! I even despise tucking in the yarn tails, so basically everything that involves a darning needle :D
My fav join is similar to your 2nd flat slip stitch join. Instead of going thru back loop of both squares and joining with slip stitch - I start on front loop right & slip stitch, then front loop left & slip stich, repeat. It gives a beautiful flat zigzag join, very decorative. Enjoy!

Hi there, I learned to crochet two months ago using RUclips tutorials and am thoroughly hooked!! Love your channel. I have used the single crochet method with the ridge and the flat braid method. When i tried the slip stitch way my work was probably too tight and the blanket was too ridgid. Shall i go up a hook size to loosen it up? Thank you 😊
Excellent tutorial, thank you! I’m seeking a joining method for a knitted cable blanket. Do you think joining with a double crochet will look ok? I’m looking for a bigger ridge look…
I’m contemplating undoing to entire rows of using the sewing method to connect and redoing the with the single crochet connection. I have to get it done so soon (for my new niece) but it’s just not looking up to my standards. Wish me luck… i might be a little crazy 😂
Thank you Robin. I rescued a project from a thrift store that contained 32 completed 4 inch Granny squares and 6 matching 8 inch squares. Now I will know how to finish the project.
Hi Robin, I agree the Slip stitch on the front seems the most difficult and it's still easy to do😀. Question, as the last method you showed (joining from the back) is virtually unnoticeable when done with the same color yarn, could I possibly do that in the front? I think it would be an awfully easy way to get a little "texture" without much effort. 😃
I'm wondering how it would join using the last method with the slip stitch on the wrong side, if you used a similar colour to the square but used a thinner yarn? Would that make it less bulky, or is there no advantage?
I tried the third method on a couple quick knitting samples I made, and it seemed to work well. I'm looking forward to trying it on an actual knitting project. I'm terrible at sewing and I'd be thrilled if I could use this technique. (But first I've got some crocheting to finish!)
Very easy explained I would love to small squares for a change and of all the videos I've watched this is the easiest for my brain anyway. Thank you for sharing

I personally think it's the easiest of the 3 😃 90 squares sounds like a beautiful big blanket in the making there!
Does this also work for hexagons? How about full hexagons with half hexagons on the sides?
