At 77 years old & crocheting for 60+ years, this is such a revelation. Thsnk you. My next afghan will be granny squares in asstd colors so I will binge watch your videos hoping to find a join as I go tutorial. ❤
What a great tutorial, I used to do turning chains too all those years but since I have learned about the stacked single crochet stitch I have never looked back and always do only one chain in my corners too, never turn my work either 😅I am so impressed, you are such a talented person and wonderful inspiration to so many of us out there, bless you 🙌🙌👍💕🙏🏻
I'm making my 1st daisy granny stitch blanket @ all about ami using 3 colors. Fortunately, I found a video where you don't have to sew in all ends @ made by anita here on YT. And I found a seamless join to close. I'm so excited!! After I'm done with that project, I will definitely try this granny square. I'm still a beginner, with my tension being my worst enemy😂. Thank you so much for sharing this.❤❤ From East TN
Thank you!! I knew there was a way to do this, I remember watching my grandmother do these squares with out seams and turning but I couldn't remember how!! ❤
Thank you so much for sharing this method. It will certainly help my granny squares look better! ❤ I also like the tutorial for the straight sides and no turning chain. You’re going to revolutionize my crochet! 😂❤❤
I do my granny squares just like this method only with hdc’s instead of sc’s…US…I do the double stacked sc’s as the 1st chain in everything I crochet Very nice tutorial! I like this way! 😊❤
What a fabulous way to begin a new round! Thank you so much for this game changing technique! And yes, the difference in terminology is very much confusing, lol.
Very well demonstrated. Thank you I like the way you remind ine of the bigger picture -great for one who likes to be reminded where one is heading😊. Great result, looks good! Rave rave. No nonsense or distracting music & I like the sense of humour - there you are. Granny squares are great for presebts for “new” grandmums. 💓
Wow! You've taught an old dog a new trick! When crocheting in rows, I sometimes use a standing dc to start a row but more often I use 2 stacked sc. I've never seen your technique for granny squares before...I make a lot of squares because I'm in Florida where it's warm 10 months of the year...no warm heavy throw on my lap! Thank you so much. New subscriber now. ❤
This is a complete game changer. I did the turning chains, the slip stitches to the next space. This looks 100% prettier. I've been using the stacked single for years but never thought to incorporate it here. Thank you so much. I love it, I love it, I love it!!
I kind of hung up my hooks for a while for lots of reasons but you have just stirred the pot and I’m going to give it a go and new subscriber & will watch more of you to learn new things
Great video! I love using the stacked single instead of the starting chain, but joining the round with a single crochet is new to me. I'll definitely have to rewatch the video and try it along with you. Thanks!
Thank you for this informative video! I’ve never liked this chain 3 as a U.S. Dc because it’s always weird. Always doing weird stuff. I’ve been kinda winging a solution for my current project in the round, but your start is much more efficient and elegant. You explained the stacked stitch beautifully.
OK, so I'm making a granny-square-like blanket but using the V-stitch (uses less yarn and lighter for tropical climates) and I wish I knew about this technique before I started it. But... I've incorporated that stacked-single crochet (US terms) at the start of a round and I no longer have that tell-tale sign where I'm joining. This is amazing! Been crocheting 50+ years and just now learning this amazing chainless starting technique! 💡 Thanks for sharing! 😍🤩
Wonderful video!!! One request: Toward the end when you were demonstrating a border, I couldn’t quite see how you turned the corner. I know a border wasn’t the point of this video but after what you taught about a granny square, I want to know your way of doing borders!! 😄😄😄❤
@sandrarogers3896... you are so not alone, I always thought I was abby-normal coz I didn't hold my yarn in my left hand like the Professionals... watching this was a breath of fresh air, knowing I'm not alone in my weirdness
You are such an excellent teacher. Your tutorials are truly excellent. Your demonstration is very clear and I really enjoy your explanation for why you do something they way that you have. Your videos have truly improved the quality of my work and my confidence overall. Thank you so much.
I went to try this the day after I watched it. I made a mistake by not watching the video again and ended up joining my corners with only a sc, ch 1 and it worked like a charm!
You've just taught an old dog a new trick! I am 70 and I learnt to crochet when I was 8 and I've never seen this before! This is how I will do my granny squares from now on😊
Oh my goodness! Ive been watching many videos trying to learn exactly what you just taught us. Im so happy I found you. You are 5he best! Thank you and ill be watching you forever.❤
Hi Tracy how are you doing today iam doing fine today your granny square are very beautiful colors and very beautiful work thank you for sharing stay safe ❤❤❤
Wow! I am flying along, free as a bird making lovely granny squares. I’ve made a lot of squares before, but never as easily and nicely as these. Thanks.
I prefer a tighter square so "ch 1" for the corners and going right into the next chain space without a chain looks way better to me. Thanks for a great video! 😊
Thank you very much. I’ve been crocheting 🧶 for over 30 years and have never done that. Thank you for teaching me how to crochet 🧶 a new stitch.🧶💜🧶💜🇦🇺Western Australia 🇦🇺.
Thank you. Having just mastered a granny square (not sure why but previous attempts never worked) I was keen to explore the possibility of a seam free square and I think this properly explains it for me. I will be giving it a go.
Awesome tutorial. I just found and subscribed to your channel and I am looking forward to using this technique on my next granny square project. Thank you❤
Hi Tracy. I really love this method of doing things. I did enjoy watching this so much, very informational. Hope you have a super blessed Tuesday today.
Wow! I followed along with you and I'm so excited to make squares for a blanket. The granny square has never been my favorite but I'm really enjoying it. Thank you. 40 years of crocheting I wish I would of discovered sooner. I know what I am doing with my scrapes and yarn where I only have 1 skein. I'm going to make a big blanket. I. Excited!!
I too had problems with tension but since I change the way I hold the yarn in my left hand it’s improved tremendously. Go to a beginner video and try the way they say to hold the yarn. I found it awkward at the beginning but so happy I persevered. I love this tutorial and my square looks great now using this method. Thanks
Thank you. I stopped using a three chain at the beginning of a row or square ages ago because I didn’t like the 'skinny' look. For the want of a better name I call this method of starting a round or row 'stacking.' I do like the way you finish the round, it’s so much better and neater. Like you I don’t do a chain between the groups of trebles because I don’t like a granny square that is too open and the other reason is I would often forget to do it, causing way too much pulling out. Once again thank you for sharing this with us. 👍
Ohh! Nice one. A great technique. Would use this technique for my granny squares from now on. I use another technique though if I crochet in rounds. I essentially "recreate" the stitch. I look at the turning chains as incomplete stitches; they are just missing some parts. I leave a very long yarn tail which I then use to recreate the "missing parts" of the stitches. The seams are almost invisible with this technique which is why I prefer to use it even if it is a bit fiddly and uses an additional tool (a needle).
Thank you for a great tutorial. I’m relatively new to crochet and often wondered why everyone seemed to do a chain instead of a stacked stitch (I always do them at the beginning of straight rows). I thought you’d forgotten to do the chain one at the end of the first round but now I understand. ❤🎉
Yes! Ever since I first saw the stacked stitch I never went back to chaining 😃And so many granny projects done in the corner, it looks so much better. This is the first video I've seen that of how I do it. Except I turn after every round. How do you prevent the inevitable twist?
I decided I had better get this firmly fixed in my brain so decided to play and then I remember those times when I had the oops moment. There you are, you are crocheting a humongous granny square/ oblong that takes forever to complete a round and there it is a two cluster granny! There’s four options 1. leave and call it your non deliberate mistake! 2. Patch in a stitch. 3. Grit your teeth and pull it out and redo the round or 4. Do a drop stitch. Not being a fan of pulling out hundreds of stitches and knowing a two granny cluster would annoy the heck out of me I worked this out. Instructions in UK speak. Work the three trebles in the gap before the two trebles cluster. Instead of one loop around the hook work as if for a double treble (3 loops on hook). Insert the hook into the gap to the left of the two trebles from behind the two granny round. (You are working the first part at the back of the square). Pull through yarn, yarn on hook , pull through 2 loops, 3 loops on hook, work one chain. Bring the hook to the front of the work, pull through a loop. 4 loops on hook. Yarn on hook work through 3 loops, finish treble. Keep stitch a little looser but not too loose. It sounds complicated but really it isn’t and beats undoing a round that took forever to do in the first place. I hope this helps someone, who, like me who can’t leave mistakes alone.
Hi love this, the sqaure turns out much nicer its now away eith the chsins for me. Is it do this the same way doing a rectangle granny? If so would you be able to do a quickly demo video please? Thanks so much 😊
Thank you soo much for the slow way off explanning. I am sorry for mij bad Englisch. I live in the Netherlands How can I put the video in slomotion Thanks. Greetings Mary
I am so excited to try this. I started crocheting when I was 17. I am 83 now. so you can always learn something new. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome!
I've been crocheting for 62 years, so I'd better keep going to catch you! Congratulations!
Thanks for showing us this technique. Think I'll be using it from now on.
At 77 years old & crocheting for 60+ years, this is such a revelation. Thsnk you.

Thank you so much too kind
Very clever! Thank you!❤
I will be using your way of building the granny square without turning. Thank you so very much!

I do hdc too sometimes it depends on the yarn and the project how Mich space I need
THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing this I was one of those who asked YOU ROCK
🎉Your video rock my world! Amazing, awesome. I have a new way of crocheting now!♡! Can't say thank you enough. ❤

This looks so much nicer then the way I learned. Thank you!
Thank you
This is brilliant thank you so much for sharing this method. My granny’s might actually turn out square now. 😂
You’re welcome 😊
😂 mine too ! Brill thank u
That is such a beautiful build on a granny square corner
I love this square and the chainless stitches when you start a round or row. It’s perfect. Thanks for the tutorial. 🫶🏼
Very neat and even looking. Thanks for sharing your technique 😊
Great video! I love using the stacked single instead of the starting chain, but joining the round with a single crochet is new to me. I'll definitely have to rewatch the video and try it along with you. Thanks!
Also if joining with a chain 2, you can do a half treble(uk) or half double (us) to join. Hope this helps 😊
I've been crocheting 51 years & been making granny squares I've never turned my work either & mines never twisted
I LOVE this way so much better ❤

This is hopefully going to be soooo much easier for me!!! Thank you. I want to make it big enough to fold into a cardigan/shawl 😊
Wonderful video!!!

My picot went right into the corner stitch so the next one started the next side
Wow! I thought I was the only "weird" one by using left, middle finger! Thanks for helping me realize that I am not weird!! Love video.
I also use my middle finger. It reminds me of a sewing machine🎉🎉
@sandrarogers3896... you are so not alone, I always thought I was abby-normal coz I didn't hold my yarn in my left hand like the Professionals... watching this was a breath of fresh air, knowing I'm not alone in my weirdness
I really like this idea of the sc in the corner and no slip stitches. Yours look great. I will try that with my next ones. Thanks !!!!
Thank you😊

I went to try this the day after I watched it. I made a mistake by not watching the video again and ended up joining my corners with only a sc, ch 1 and it worked like a charm!
I vary the corners depending on the yarn and how it looks sometimes i use a US sc and other times a Hdc

Thank you means a lot
This is great Tracy thank you
Thank you ! My work always warps on me if I don't turn. What a wirkaround!
This is fabulous thank you
I admire crocheters who can get these straight edges. I strive to reach this level.
You can do it just keep your tension constant as possible & keep practicing
Thanks for sharing this. Great demonstration and explained very well.
I prefer a tighter square so "ch 1" for the corners and going right into the next chain space without a chain looks way better to me. Thanks for a great video! 😊

Thank you for this tutorial. It was exactly what I was looking for and has improved my granny squares immensely.
Hi, at 61 I have just begun my crochet journey. Your square is so neat, unlike mine!!! I am definitely going to practice your technique. Thank you!!
You can do it!!!!
I've just found your Channel and so glad I did. Fab tutorial thank you! 😊

Fabulous. Saved your video 💖

This was a great tutorial! I wish I was smart enough to translate the pattern on other squares.
Hello Tracy, thank you a lot to show me/us your new method to substitute the turning chain/chains. Greetings from Germany.
Ohh! Nice one. A great technique. Would use this technique for my granny squares from now on.

Thank you very much! I’m using the chain 1 in corner and the new way to do double crochet and also the single crochet to close the round!!!
Do you have any helpful hints on starting a round or row with a half treble (half double crochet)? Thank you again!
Thank you for teaching this!❤
Thank you for a great tutorial. I’m relatively new to crochet and often wondered why everyone seemed to do a chain instead of a stacked stitch (I always do them at the beginning of straight rows). I thought you’d forgotten to do the chain one at the end of the first round but now I understand. ❤🎉

There you are, you are crocheting a humongous granny square/ oblong that takes forever to complete a round and there it is a two cluster granny! There’s four options
1. leave and call it your non deliberate mistake!
2. Patch in a stitch.
3. Grit your teeth and pull it out and redo the round or
I will do that thank you 🤟🤟
Brilliant tracy thanks so much ..will make such a difference. 💙💙
🎉Am loving this technique - thank you!
I would suggest using a stitch holder on the new first stitch to avoid any confusion. I am quite a fan of the easy use of Clover Stitch Holders.
Great tip! Thank you
Thank you for the great help. Perfection ❤
Oh my goodness! 😯😯🙂 thank you!
This is excellent! I’m not fond of those chains between rows or between DC clusters. 😉
Thank you so much for sharing! ❤
Tracy can you help me please I want to make a granny shawl but I want to to make it wider rather than too long how do I do it please
Cool thanks for sharing 😊
❤ thank you very much
Thank you soo much for the slow way off explanning. I am sorry for mij bad Englisch. I live in the Netherlands

Lovely.
I just found your lovely channel and subscribed. Thank you for this very helpful video😊❤
Thank you 🤟🤟
Do you have a tutorial about how to keep round, flat (circles)? (Keep round & flat). Enjoying ur tutorials.
I do but it’s an old one I will look into updating it
