Oh my, whoever created this "turning-not" chain, he/she is a genius.
That gives so much relief bc of that nice edge you get when next row ends.
As someone said already, that gives a second chance to crocheting again for so many people.
I even decided to repurpose one of my old unfinished sweaters just to enjoy that kind of turning 😄
Also, when combined with chainless foundation, that gives literally perfect knitted fabric.
Gorgeous! Many thanks for sharing that 😊
thank you so much
What a nice edge! After 50 years of crocheting I am definitely switching to this technique and whole heartily thank you for sharing it!❤
Me, too! Over 50 years!
Learning this stacked single crochet is what convinced me to start crocheting again. I made a throw with some yarn I purchased several years ago and I love how easy it all was, and how the edges look. I also don't do the chain one turn for single crochets anymore either. Thank goodness for people like you who share the knowledge!
I like it because it ends the confusion of if the chain 3 is counted as the first stitch or not! 😊
I love doing this. I've been crocheting 43 years and you are totally right when you say this is a game changer. It makes a more beautiful edge.
It really does. A much nicer finished edge! 👍
I just chain ONE (and turn) and then do a US double (UK treble) stitch in the very FIRST hole. It makes a VERY straight edge, HOWEVER, it also makes the first stitch identical to the others, which looks much neater.
Yes, I agree !! I have started doing the same and you’re right it does resemble the other stitches.
I have seen that one…it works too
I used to struggle to find the last stitch in the row This gives a clean straight edge Thank you for this tip
I love doing this. Blossom Crochet Showed us how to do this. I do it with US single, double, and treble crochet. looks so much nicer. much better edges. Thanks for bringing it to all your followers.
Same here about a year ago! 👍🏼
How do you do this for a single? Wouldn’t this give you too much height?
Inexperienced crocheter here, and the most frustrating part of the turning chain is finding the right stitch at the end. This is what's so appealing to me in this video -- it appears that stitch will be much more identifiable -- but I also wonder how you adjust for single and half doubles. I struggle with tension also.
for a single you just do an extended single. which is just extending your loop longer and instead of chaining just put your first single crochet in the first stitch.@@robinmoore7202
For a half double you can just put one stitch instead of two. and you can put three for a triple. it works for just about all stitches.@@beckasmith6725
I’ve finally found someone who holds their crochet hook as I do with the yarn over the left middle finger. I learnt from my mum when I was about 12 and didn’t realise there was any other way till I discovered the internet about 9 years ago. You can go at warp speed holding your hook this way. 🌈🦘
I began doing this stacked single crochet about a year ago, I won't go back to the old way, the look is nice. I've been croching for about 46 years and I do it for all of the reasons that you stated.
I'm so glad you are sharing this with people Tracy. I have had the odd pattern (I'm in the U.S.), that instructed me to do this, and I really preferred it as well. I NEVER liked the 'chain business', as it looked SO unfinished! When I first was instructed to do it this way several years ago....I couldn't understand how it took me so long to come across this! Why was I chaining all this time!!! 🤦♀ I'm not the type to 'envision' things well, but I certainly can do as instructed....and I absolutely know what I prefer. I'm sure most people are really happy you have shared this and are as appreciative as I was when I first learned of it!! 👍 💕
I have done this "stacked single" technique for quite a while now. I love it!
This makes so much sense and always thought how is the 2 or 3 better than a proper treble stitch. I think even if you just manipulate a straight forward treble it still looks better. I've used a standing stitch before, but after crocheting for 50+ years I would not always remember to do a standing stick and do the chain, just because my brain is trained that way, and realise after I'd done a row or 2.
I also love using this Stacked Single Crochet stitch. I've always has such a hard time keeping my side edges straight, but after I learned this stitch, it has helped so very much in straightening them out.
I love this, too. I searched forever years ago so I wouldn't have to ever slip stitch in a chain ever again.
Watching your way is so much better than the old way
.I am converted. Thank you
thank you
I just watched this video a few hours ago and tried using this turning method. Its a game changer for me!!! My stitch count has been perfect from row to row. My sides are now gorgeous in my eyes. Very straight. I was always dropping or gaining stitches trying to make the sides look decent, not anymore!!! All i can say is thank you!! I am left-handed and watched the right-handed video with no problems. Thanks for having a left-handed video out there.
You are welcome
THIs is the solution to the problem I have had with my projects. Thank you for posting the technique.
Yes!! I'm also not confused about which stitch to go into at the start of rows!
I love this technique. It also looks as though it prevents the gaps at the end that creates the holes in your projects. Thanks a lot for this.
You have the best working technique there is! The pen hold and run yarn over left middle finger. Very high speed/output achievable like this. A pleasure to behold
Thank you 🤟🤟
I just discovered your channel and absolutely love your content. Your tutorials are explanatory, yet very straightforward and to the point. Your voice is so calm, flowing and relaxed, which makes it such a joy to watch your videos!
Thank you
Thank you! You're right about it being a game changer. And it looks beautiful. Now I'm going to watch the "lefty" version.
I learned to crochet from my grandmother in the early 1960's. She being right handed and me being left handed made this a bit of a struggle, but with her patience I finally learned. What I didn't realize until about a year ago was that for all of those years I was doing some strange Frankenstein of crochet. Part right, part left, but it worked. So now whenever I want to learn something new, it helps to have both versions; right and left.
So thanks again and I have subscribed.
thank you and welcome to my channel
Becausz you do a Frankenstein 'hybrid' you might enjoy 'freeform' crochet if you are creative or don't need patterns!
I found this method on another RUclips video and I absolutely agree with you, this method is a game changer and I am fairly new to crochet. Equally Ireally like the foundation chain and foundation row as one operation. No more tight foundation chains.
Nice. I always hated turning chains. I could never do them properly. Thank you.
Glad to help
How do you do one for a USA single crochet?@@crochetrocks
I must say, from South Africa, you have made my day after pulling out unsightly work I tried this method. Beside counting wrong, it works perfectly, thank you so much❤
I love this! I've seen something like it on another channel, but this is so simple, and it really does make a nice edge. Thank you!!
I still make the chain but go into that same "ignored" stitch the same you do beginning the new row. My edges are great!
This is what I do too
Fantastic. I've seen shorts with these methods but couldn't quite grasp what they were doing. This is a most excellent tutorial.😊
thank you
love dont crochet all that much but use on knit edges of blankets you did a great demo thanx so much I made a special playlist just for this so I dont lose it. Blessings!
I saw this on another RUclips channel about 6 months ago and have been using it ever since. I totally agree with you, it's a game changer, and I'll never go back to the old way again! P.S. I just found your channel and subscribed. You have some great videos. Thank you! 😊❤
thank you so much welcome to my channel
Makes it easy to join. You can find the top,of the stacking chain.
Thank you , love this method. No More trying to get a straight edge !!!
WOW
Love it! I ran and got some yarn to try while watching. It’s fabulous, you are right - game changer!
It really is!
I've been crocheting since I was 13 or 14. I am now 65. This is a complete game changer, for sure! Thank you, thank you! Without you & the web, I would never have learned this! Thank you!
you are welcome
I love the way you did that instead of having to chain. Sometimes when I chain the chain has a tendency to make a gap. I have never liked that!! So thank you so much! I will definitely be using that tip for now on, with everything I crochet.
NORMA COLLINS FROM TEXAS, USA
Thank you 🤟🤟
I’m immediately implementing this ending stitch instead of the chain-3.
I’m still a beginner (on my 3rd project), and I’ve only had issues finding the beginning chain-3 stitch to start the next row. I was just sitting here, taking 10 mins to try and find the proper way to go into the stitch (sometimes, the 3 chains turn to make the back face me, so I get disoriented on where to even stick my crochet hook. 😂)
This alternative stitch is _SO_ much more convenient and it’s more straightforward. It also works as you scale it up for longer stitches, so this is my life now. 😂
Much appreciation to you for making this video! 😊🧶
*Edit:* I just remembered seeing this stitch a couple weeks ago in passing whilst doing preliminary research into different stitches. Here in the US, this is called a stacked single crochet. But they didn’t explain it halfway as well as you did, so I dismissed it entirely as something beyond my skillset. 😅 Guess I was wrong!
Thank you so much
That excellent.. especially for a new crocheter the edge will be smooth not wonky..thanks tracy!!
Many thanks, I’ve always disliked the “old” way & this is so much neater, I’ve only just found your channel & you now have a new subscriber. Thank-you Lovely xxxx
Welcome Lynda 🤟🤟🤟
I love this!!! I never liked the look of the chain edges, I am going to try this.
Very nice!!! I love it!! Thank you, Tracy!
You are so welcome!
I actually go thru both loops (the whole stitch) because it is even more solid. If I use only that one loop, it leaves a little hole. Try both loops.🙂
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
That is a real game changer. I like that stitch. Thank you for sharing that. Diane Ernest
Uncanny. I saw this on EliseRoseCrochet only a day before I saw your video. I've seen it before, and strangely enough, I've been doing it for my dishcloths for years. My best friend and I did it 30 years ago, when all we did was dishcloths 😊. Weird.
I've been doing this for quite a while. It looks so nice instead of the "chain"
I love turning this way.😊
You are never to old to learn
no, well, lets hope not lol
Yep, I've been doing it this way now for probably 10 years 😊
So appreciate your sharing your time and talent. I've watched your tutorial twice and will change to this method. Am making baby blanket for grgranddaughter due May 2024; this will be so much nicer. So glad you don't have annoying music background too... just saying. Thank you again. Have happy days everyone.
I love this! It’s a game changer!!!
that is great , I always had a trouble with a straight line . thank you sooooooo much
You are amazing teaching! I love to listen watch and try myself. Thank you so much!!!
You are welcome thank you 🤟🤟
Hi Tracy, thankyou so much, I have seen it done but others always seemed awkward but now you have made it a lot clearer. Thankyou for sharing 😊
Thank you 🤟🤟
Hi, sent by Juan, the yarn addict. I will be checking out your channel.
Thank you so much. And a big thank you to Juan 🤟🤟
This is fantastic! I hate the way it looks when I use the usual method of chain 3. Now my work looks so neat and tidy. Thank you so much, your instructions are easy to follow. Definitely subscribing. 😊
Thank you and welcome to my channel
I figured this out years ago, but I don't make videos, and also you can do it with a US treble, or any stitch that is taller than a double, just keep adding another stitch in the side loop 🤓
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I hate those 3 chains😢
Thank you for your answer to my question
Definitely yes to this way and for me it’s out with the 3 chain method. Thank you.
You can stack more US single crochets for taller stitches such as US treble crochets.
Absolutely fascinating 🧐😁🤓🎉 im gonna try that. Thank you so very much for sharing!!! 😁
Been crocheting for years and just found this video using your method instead of turning chains. So impressed with it! Going straight into my current project to give it a go. 😊
it really is a game changer I use it all the time now
Hi Tracy, I have seen this on another video and I agree with you! I love it and agree the stitch is definitely a much more pleasing way to start rows! Thank you for doing this video!
This is life changing 🙌
I love it
I love it this way! Thank you so much!💗
You're so welcome!
Very nice, thanks so much.
Thank you for the tip. Just tried it; absolutely a game changer. Love it.
Thank you for providing a lovely detailed tutorial!!!
thank you
Very nice tip! I enjoyed watching! Take care friend!
Thank you so much for dropping by
Love this technique, thanks. Be Blessed 🤗💕🥰
Makes a very nice edge❤
indeed this is a game changer im glad i found you🥰 thank you so much for sharing
Glad it was helpful! Thank you 🤟🤟
Wow! This is fantastic! Thank you! ♥
Glad you like it!
Thank you… this is wonderful!!!! ❤
Oh, wow....such an excellent little trick to get perfect edges. I thank you so much for making this so simple to do. You have a very soothing voice.
Thank you
I've been doing it that way for a long time.
I love it, thank you for sharing.
Quite a while ago now I worked out the version of this where you 'work behind yourself' at the end of the row. I like it because it helps me be sure (especially when I am doing crochet lace work) exactly which stitch I should be working into. I have that and a few other tips in a little video on my web site that is so old now the video quality got 'downgraded'. It's very amateurish too - shot way before all the great stuff we've got for recording and video-editing we have now. If you're interested you'll need to find my site and you look under the little chalkboard symbol that says tutorials. I've now changed my first stitch that substitutes for the turning chain (or 'chaining up' when you work in the round). Now I do that first dc, then a single ch, then a dc into the side of the chain. For me, at least, it makes a stitch that looks a bit more like a normal tr (US dc).
what is your website called? I will check it out
Love it! I’ll be doing this from now on. 🫶🏻
Wow Tracy, this is great! I love tips & tricks like this. Thanks for sharing this. Hope you're doing well my friend. 💙🤗
For a complete amateur like me, this is huge! Can't wait to try this. Thank you so much for sharing.
Wow I just practised that way and it’s amazing. I will be using that way from now on. Thank you so much for the easy to follow tutorial xxx
My edges are now straighter than ever and look great.
Started the wonderful hobby of knitting and crocheting age 5 while ill in bed - now 86.
great instructor ..clear ..like hearing both US and UK terms thankyou :)
Yes it’s just a shame most US crocheters don’t have the same courtesy. 🤨
Wonderful tip. Thank you!!
Nice to see someone holding the hook the same as me🎉
Newbie crocheter here. I had to cringe when she said the stitch we skip....um...I haven't been skipping that one. 🥴
Right! I have never skipped that stitch. Do your chain and crochet into the first stitch.
Looks like skipping it is the norm for a lot of people 🤷♀️
@@Triple_count Kinda explains my struggle with stitch counts
This 'trick' is typically used for US double crochet or higher stitches bc it gives straight and ''closed' edges. Depends on the pattern, but if u don't skip the first stitch in the pattern, this is likely not a good thing to implement. Hope that helps!
Nice!!!! Thanks for sharing.
Oh my goodness! I am elated I found you! This suggestion is wonderful! I love it. Thank you. You've a new subscriber.
Thank you 🙏 welcome to my channel 🤟🤟
Wow that's amazing must try it, I'm left handed and sometimes struggle with edging thanks for sharing with us 😊
There is always left handed versions on my channel too 🤟🤟
I have been doing this for years. I discovered this on my own and didn't know that other people were doing it this way too. Thank you.
Thank you, I’m going to try this on my current project!
How would this be done with US double or treble stitch? I’m loving the smoothness of it 😍
I love will try on my next project
This is fantastic just what I need ❤
This is so nice!! Thank you for this !! I’m going to start doing instead of the 3 chains!! 🎉 yay
thank you
Thank you so much!! I always seem to run into trouble with my turning stitches! throws off my entire work! Most patterns in US ask for one ch stitch before turning, and I can rarely find thee right stitch to use! I will do this from now on! TY again!
You are so welcome!
Thankyou! That is awesome!!!
