I love how you break down the instructions and you don’t assume that people know any of the terms. Your camera angle is perfect because the shot is clear and nice and close. The other thing you do great is that you stopped and, with the needle showed where to put the hook. You understand that for beginners all of the holes look the same. To further reach all of your learners you have notes typed on the video. It’s clear how much effort you put into your tutorials. Just an observation from a teacher…and a student of crochet. Thank you!
Thanks, I'm so glad it was helpful!
Totally agree with Ninette. Awesome teacher
@@erica_arndt would it be possible to chain one instead of 2 on a corner to provide a more complete and less holey looking product?
Hello, dear friend, I also have motif training on my channel. Thank you for being with me on my channel
Sure, give it a try and see if you like it better! :)
THIS IS THE FIRST VIDEO IVE FOUND THAT
● IS CLOSE UP ENOUGH and
● GOES SLOWLY ENOUGH
to re-learn from years ago and teach my granddaughters!
THANK
YOU
SO
MUCH !!!!!!!
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! :)
I 100% agree!!! This is, BY FAR, one of the EASIEST patterns I have ever found to follow! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR COMPREHENSIVE, AND YET SIMPLIFIED, STYLE OF DEMONSTRATING CROCHET PATTERNS! YOU HAVE A GIFT, THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!!!! ❤
I will MOST DEFINITELY be "blocking" my squares (I had never heard of this before, I learned so much from your video, and I am by no means a newbie to crocheting- I was taught by my grandmother as a young girl, which I am nowhere near any longer, LMAO!)
This is legitimately the best ever beginner tutorial for a granny square. I thank you young kind lady for taking your time to do this!
I agree! Never understood any other ones
Totally agree!
Agree! Happy crocheting
This is the video that taught me crochet. The first video I can actually follow along!
One very small granny square was the beginning of what started to be a college dorm bed when my daughter was in school.
When it was meant to to be finished for her graduation, I kept on with it and it turned into a wedding gift for when she got married, after school.
At that time it had become a king size blanket.
I made a second one, same size for one of my sons ..
Very satisfying.
While working on them, the blankets went with me to many Dr appointments for myself....crochet pouch and all 👍👍👍
Me sitting here with literally nothing to crochet with and watching the whole video through 😂
same 😂💕
You have to start somewhere ! 👍
You are the first creator that has made it possible for me to FINALLY learn how I can do, not only a granny square but also switch colors. I love how in depth you go and that you follow through the entire project. Absolutely LOVE that you put the instructions on the top of video too while doing that particular stitch. You’re an amazing teacher, thank you so so much 🥹!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad the video was helpful!! :) Make sure to share your project so I can see!
I want to learn to crochet and I came to RUclips to start watching some tutorials. I saw your comment and this is amazing! I can’t wait to finish this video now!! Not a lot of creators follow through like that.
I couldn't agree more. Tonight I made my first successful granny square thanks to this video🎉
🎉
@@shabbygirlmosaics your weird
I’m typing this comment after completing my FIRST ever granny square. And I just want to say THANK YOU. You made it so easy to follow along. I am grateful!!
Great job! I'm so glad the tutorial was helpful!
Thank u very much. It was made easy.please tell me about the yarn. Longing to make lots
After watching 20 tutorials, i finally made a granny square with your video. Then you very much kind lady❤
I love the idea of doing one giant granny square for a blanket… I may try that 🧶
This is such a clear video - love that you wrote the instructions on the top as you crocheted the block- and did it through the entire block - you were super patient and repetitive - loved that. I’m a crochet newbie and I totally feel like I can do this now. I think making a bag is a great idea - can’t wait to see it. Thanks so much for this tutorial! .
All of this above! I want to have my kids do it with me. They don’t understand when I tell them. Maybe they will like this!
Hello, dear friend, I also have motif training on my channel. Thank you for being with me on my channel
I'm a knitter and have always been confused by granny squares, but finally (!!!) with your video I understand! Thank you!!!!!!!
Likewise! I'm a knitter who's been struggling with crochet and this was the first video ever to get me to make a successful granny square lol
I just finished my first granny square, im totally a beginner i never thought i would be able to do this thank youuuu sweetheart for your help & teaching me 😭🫂❤
My husband is out of the country and my daughter went off to college and I'm suddenly finding needlework in the evening is JUST THE THING. Thank you for this fun and crystal clear tutorial, you helped my granny squares look much less wonky than the ones I tried to make last night. I'll be back for more! Thank you.
At last! After several failed attempts, I've finally found a granny square video with instructions that I was able to make sense of and follow. I'm jubilantly about to finish my first ever proper Granny square! Thank you so much for your wonderful, clear guidance! :D
Oh good, I'm so glad the video was helpful! :)
Hello, dear friend, I also have motif training on my channel. Thank you for being with me on my channel
Once thing you've done that no other person has done in their tutorials that I've seen is show how the part you're working on fits into the final product. It's actually so helpful. All these terms mean nothing to a beginner if the person doesn't explain how they work! At least to me. Thanks!
oh thank GOD. finally someone who knows how to make a tutorial
I've been self teaching myself to crochet for awhile and this is the best video I've come across. Finally someone goes at the pace for beginners and really explains the reasoning behind why you do certain stitches, etc. Thank you so much!
Hey Erica .. thanks for the fantastic tutorial.. it’s been about 47 years since I made granny squares. I didn’t learn the terminology back then but with your guidance I think I can re-learn how to crochet. Now I need some fun yarn.
literally the only person on youtube that can actually explain how to crochet without making it overly complicated or simplified to the point it turns out bad
You are INCREDIBLE!! I saw this video on my recommended, watched the first 5 minutes, and immediately headed to Micheal's and bought 30 dollars worth of crochet stuff, and then watched the rest while making my first square! SUPER EASY TO FOLLOW! I've never crocheted anything before! AHHH I LOVE THIS VIDEO TYSM FOR IT!!!!
I've been wanting to learn how to crochet for YEARS but never had a video or person be able to explain it to me & have me understand. And then I find this GEM of a video today. Thank you endlessly for your explanations, patience, and perfect angling of this video. I think I can do this🥹🥹
I just want to say thank you for the clear and concise instructions… I am an avid knitter but I have a fear and aversion to crocheting because of the
verbal abuse my grandmother gave me every time I try to crochet something as a child... My hands literally were shaking making the first 4 corners.. .. thank you for showing how to do a double crochet as not everyone knows how to do those… Appreciate your video ..again thank you so much .. sincerely..
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and I'm sure you're doing an amazing job with your granny squares!
The other day I was crocheting in a single strand, now I'm making beautiful granny squares. Thank you so much this was amazing and so clear! Better than any book I've read so far!!
genuinely thank you i failed so many times but this video actually made sense
I've been crocheting for a year but every single creator explained grannies like this ancient science, finally someone who taught me how to do them! I'm going to make so so so many projects with this newfound knowledge. I love you for this! tysm
i learned how to crochet from different youtube videos but i have never seen a video like this one. its extremely begginer friendly. i even cry a little bit because it feels like someone teachs me how to crochet in person. thats the best tutorial, thank you so much
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video. Learning to crochet was becoming a huge challenge for me. This video helped me to figure things out! Thank you!
Yo me sentia 😤 frustrada y por fin lo logré. Siempre quise aprender a tejer a ganchillo y que manera de aprender con Erica. Super!
I’ve tried crocheting for years and never been able to make a granny square your video is the only one that I think I could use to easily make one .I inherited lots of beautiful bright colored wool and now I know what I’m going to use it for 😊thankyou so much
I started a grannie square project that I was going to make into my first ever hand made sweater. I have made blankets before, and scarves. Your grannie squares are so much easier, I have decided to scrap my project, and start new using your pattern. Thank you so much, your video was so easy to follow.
This is an excellant tutorial. I must do this. My mom tried to teach me to crochet but I just couldn't learn it., now, many decades later I may learn it. Thank you Erica. I saved this video.
this was the video that made me want to continue learning crochet. i was about ready to give up, but like everyone else says, you made the tutorial so clear and easy to follow. i can’t thank you enough ❤️
this is the first time ive tried to make a granny square and oh em gee your tutorial is so easy to understand!!! im three rows in and it already looks perfect! i love how this tutorial is slow enough and clear enough to understand, the type of yarn you use also makes it easier to see for me especially at the start when you have to yarn through the center of the circle 😭😭 very easy and great for beginners!
This is the BEST tutorial ever!!! After countless failed attempts to make a granny square, I finally did it with your help! 💛
This is the pattern my granny taught me how to make when i was around 9. Soooo long ago!!❤ Miss learning from her.
I’m an experienced crocheter and know how to make granny squares already, but I just had to click on this suggested video because your squares are just so cute! Love all of the colors you used and your video just looks so great all around 😊
I've made my first granny square. At 65, I'm finally learning to crochet! Thank you, Erica!
I am echoing so many others here, but I just wanted to let you know how helpful this video was for me! Even though I struggle with spatial learning, your step by step instructions are making this downright easy. You are an amazing teacher-thank you! ❤
As an experienced knitter I have struggled with learning crochet. Your tutorial was fabulous! I’m looking at my granny square as I type this! It’s not perfect, but it’s actually not too bad either! Thanks for the great instructions! ♥️🧶
I'm from Poland and on our RUclips i didn't find a person who would explain me this patter as good as you!! This video is amazing for beginners. I'm literally in love. Thank you sooo much!!
My favorite granny square tutorial. I'm a scatter-brained, off-again on-again crocheter so I always come back to this one for a refresher
I cannot thank you enough for helping me. I have looked at SEVERAL videos of a granny crochet and for some reason I'd always flub up but yours was the first one I successfully made one through AND I learned how to stitch in colors! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Just made my first square and I'm thrilled .I'm making my granddaughters winter scarves. Perfect tutorial. Thankyou
I haven't made granny squares in a while thanks for the refresher. I love your colors. Spring colors.
GUYS THIS IS TAKING ME FOREVER BUT I’M SLOWLY DOING IT 🎉🎉
edit: this is my first crochet project with no knowledge on how to do anything (not even tie the slip knot) and I managed to do it after some trial and error! i also made some of your other sewing crafts and they turned out great! thankyou for teaching me so much and so well!
I just stopped back by to say that I literally had zero idea how to crochet before I found this video. I had a few skeins of yarn and some hooks that I won at a Christmas bingo party and I had always wanted to learn to crochet. I started googling and came across your page. BEST THING EVER! Thank you SO much for doing these videos! You make it so easy to learn, breaking down everything step by step! I’ve made a few dozen of these and they are SO fun to make! I will be back for more of your videos frequently! Keep up the good work, and again, THANK YOU!!!! ❤
Hands down my favourite granny square tutorial! I'm a beginner and I had the time of my life learning from you! Thank you 😊 🇿🇦
Thank you! I'm a returning beginner, a little rusty. But when I saw your squares in your other video in those colors....I just can't wait to make them!!
I did it! It looks sooo pretty. MY colors were pink, yellow, pink, and dark blue. Turned out GORGEOUS. THis toturial was one of the best ones I’ve ever had!
Oh My God, seriously, this is the best tutorial ever for beginners, I watched a video before this, and didnt help because it kept turning out as a circle, and then I watched this video and I made it on the first try!! seriously, thank you so much it really helps as a 13 yo beginner!
Glad to hear it was helpful! :)
Wow! This is the best tutorial I've seen on how to make granny squares! Thanks so much for a great tutorial...you are a great teacher!
Yes! After watching countless other granny square tutorials I think you explained it the best! So excited to add this to my patterns! Thank you!❤️💫
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Thank you. I’ve been crocheting for 20+ years and had forgotten how to do the granny square. I’d watch other videos and would get frustrated. The way you presented the pattern made sense and I just finished my first granny square blanket. So easy and made me feel confident again. 😃
Thank you for this video! I've been wasting so much time weaving in ends separately and weaving WAY more than I needed to, this method for granny squares is gonna save me so much time!
I’ve spent all day watching this video step by step over and over as I do it myself and I’m proud to say I think I might actually know what I’m doing! Thank you!!!!
See no matter how many times I watch this video hers comes out looking beautiful mine comes out looking like a cluster of knots.
I think this is easy enough for me too. I've learned the single and double stitches, so far. My biggest regret was not spending more time with my grandmother when I was younger. She lived in another state, and we would only be able to visit for a few days and a lot of family was always around, so it was crazy. She did beautiful work. She was very crafty,, which I believe I've inherited, but I've been afraid to start crocheting. Mainly cause every craft starts out little, then before I know it, I have a room full of yarn. But I'm trying to learn. So far, I've managed to make hanging dishtowels. Getting better.
Hi! I learned knitting first, as a kid, and since my mid 20's I've been trying to wrap my head around crocheting. Over the years, I'd feel inspired to try to learn it, watch a bunch of RUclips videos about it, get frustrated, and eventually forget about it for a few years until the mood would strike again, only for me to get confused and stop, and the pattern would repeat. This is the first video in 17 years to be able to teach me how to do it. I ACTUALLY MADE A GRANNY SQUARE. Thank you so much for your thoughtful, clear, friendly instructions and video! You are a wonderful teacher!
Wow thank you so much! I'm so glad the video was helpful :)
I'm a crocheter and have always been confused by granny squares, but finally (!!!) with your video I understand!
Thank you dear -)
I only started crocheting yesterday and my mom was so impressed when i made one of these squares thank you so much for this amazing tutorial it was reeeeally helpful 💞
I’ve got my squares made, I can hardly wait for the bag! Love your video and the way you teach!
I've managed some keychains and a water bottle holder by now, but I couldn't find a granny square tutorial that didn't end up as a sad, squished, fat oval for me. This one worked perfectly for me. Thank you!!
I have been crocheting by myself, self thought and very limited. This is the first ever square that I created! Thank you very much for clear and slow instructions🎉
I love this tutorial, thank you so much!! I’ve tried so many others and kept getting confused but this pattern is so easy. I love that it keeps repeating itself so it’s really easy for a beginner. I started off learning how to crochet a beginner flower so this was perfect for a second task - unfortunately I had to go through so many other videos before I found this. Thanks for being so clear and repetitive!!
Oh and I LOVE that you taught us using the needle to thread in the loose yarns first and then moved on to teach us how to hide it in when you thought we would be able to handle it - SO GOOD. I love love love how thoughtful that was!
I’m left handed but this video was so clear I had no issue at all.
Hello, dear friend, I also have motif training on my channel. Thank you for being with me on my channel
Thank you so much!!! I have been crocheting for at least 2 Years and I've never been able to make a granny square until now!!!! Thanks for this awesome video!!!! 😂
You are so welcome!
Best video. I know how to crochet, self taught. My Nana always made granny square afghans and passed before she was able to teach me how to crochet. Thank you so much! Everyone is getting granny squares for Christmas this year!
The way you explain things is so good I don't get mad about the video being 40 minutes long.Thank you so much for teaching me how to make something I considered impossible.
I am so HAPPY I found you! You are exactly the type of content I was looking for to help me get started on my crochet journey! I love how you break down each step including finishing off and not make us look for another video on other steps its all here in one video! I also love that after I make my squares I can make the bag with them and have a finished project not just a bunch of squares lying around lol! Thank you again!
I love this. My mom was into doing Granny Squares. Make me want to pick this up. Thanks for doing this ❤️
Bravissima
I’ve always wanted to crochet and have never been able to understand because I’ve always been a knitter. You are the reason I was even able to make a proper slip knot! My mental health has been so bad recently so I decided I was finally going to learn how to do this because it would make me happy, and you’ve taught me in less than 5 minutes flawlessly! Thank you so much ❤
I’m an absolute beginner and granny squares scared me (even though I really want to do a project with them) until I saw your video. You explain so well and slowly enough that I’m feeling confident I can do this. Thank you so, so much!!! 😊
Just completed my first ever granny square using this video as a guide! Thank you!
This is an incredible tutorial ! I’ve tried so many different videos and I could never get it right but you explained it really well and I was able to follow along easily , I finished the whole thing which I never thought I’d be able to do so thank you soooooooo much , you now have a new subscriber !
Thank you for breaking it down so easy. I freestyle crochet & couldn’t get the hang of granny squares from anyone rise. I’m excited now to try again. Yay.
Thank you for making this video 😊 I made my first square 2 days by watching this and now I've moved onto making a blanket with one big granny square.
Thank you I love how you go slow for my 71 year old brain. I have tried so hard to learn with my grandma when I was a kid. How I know how to make Aranyaka square . I’m also left handed
Loved the tutorial. Makes me want to crochet again. Can't wait to see the bag!
I picked up crochet hooks on Sunday night (it's now Tuesday) and am now able to replicate these without instruction. I really struggled with all the other videos I looked at first because I was starting completely from scratch, but this video has enabled me to actually PRODUCE something other than frustration. I now consider myself able to crochet, even though these are the only things I've made, because now when I watch other videos I actually understand them! You've taught me to run before I can walk because even though I can make a granny square I still can't actually just plain crochet (like a scarf), but I'm so so grateful. You're an excellent teacher and I really appreciated you going through the entire process, not skipping around or assuming we knew anything at all. This has been an invaluable resource for me, and I look forward to any future crochet tutorials you might make. Thanks so much 💜🙏
This is a fantastic tutorial. I am an absolute beginner, and was getting frustrated trying to "master" double crochets in a longer row. Making a granny square, with your super detailed and easy-to-understand directions helps to really power through how awkward it can be for newbies. Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
I have been watching your tutorials mainly for quilting...But your tutorial for the granny square was top notch and easy to follow that I'm going to try it one more time. Thank you for your tutorials! Pam
I just started learning how to crochet yesterday and I’m so glad I found your video today! Thank you for your patience in this video by showing the steps slowly and repeating them for every colour. It makes your tutorial easy to follow for a beginner like me and also let me memorise the different stitches well! 💕 I managed to do my very first granny square and it turned out not so bad! ☺️🥳 Thanks again!!
I want to thank you, because After the second section in, I knew what to do. I paused the video and completed it in 3 minutes. This is my first time ever making a Granny square, and this is the best tutorial I found! ❤
i want to point out that you’re an EXCELLENT teacher… i enjoyed how you took us carefully through each step, your children are lucky to learn from you.
i finished my first draft to see what colour combination(s) i’d use for the project i’m going to make and it turned out pretty! thank you 🩷
Perfectly explained and the close up images really clarify positioning of stitches and hook placement. Thank you, thank you Erica. I've seen other videos before and have been able to follow but not without backing up more than a few times. Fantastic!!
Maravilhoso trabalho amei!! Parabéns 🎉 Beijinhos.❤️❤️❤️👏🌷🍀
Can you show us how to join them pls?
So many bright, fun colors! How fun. :)
I love the bloopers at the end! Your video is by far the easiest to understand! My grandma told me to learn the granny square crochet and every time I tried I failed. I just completed my very first granny square thanks to you!! Thank you!!
ive watched a million videos, but this one ACTUALLY HELPED ME DO IT!!! i have 2 big squares done and need more yarn, but now im unstoppable. THANK YOU!
This was the most clear and most beautiful tutorial on how to make a granny square and I enjoyed doing it as a beginner
Glad it was helpful!
I really enjoy all of your tutorials. You explain the craft to where I can understand! I am not good at crocheting but I’m still trying! Thanks! God bless!
Thank You Erica, 65 years old and I did not know how to make a Granny Square, but, I did it with your wonderful tutorial. I am amazed, you are a very talented teacher! Thank you! Now let’s hope I remember😉🥳💐
34:55 I love this tutorial. You are the first person out of all the tutorials out their to show me how to make a granny square successfully. I am making a cardigan so theses will look really nice put together! Thank you!
This was the easiest-to-follow crochet video ever! You are so great at explaining the processes and anticipating where we might go wrong! Thank you (:
I really enjoyed this tutorial, thank you! I haven’t done crochet in about 30 years. I need to find my hooks and try again.
Excellent, I’m a beginner at the grand age of 62, love this and you’re a brilliant teacher. Thank you. 🥰
Absolutely love this tutorial and it makes sense! This is the first vid that explains how to do each type of stitch and not just assume the viewer already knows! The only thing I’m struggling with is to keep finding the center of the circle when doing the double crochets. But all in all I’ve watched this through and it all makes sense! Thank you so much!🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
Erica your tutorials are so easy to understand. Thank you for sharing ❤️

I have been trying to learn how to crochet for 4 months now following several you tube tutorials and couldn’t get it at all. I was just about to pack in thinking it wasn’t for me when I came across your video. Thank you so much! Thanks to you I have made several squares. I am going to check out your other videos to see what else I can make - thanks for your amazing tutorial.
IVE JUST MADE MY FIRST GRANNY SQUARE🎉✨ I've watched dozens of other creators videos before and always got confused but with this video I've finally cracked it! Thank you 🎀
