I've struggled with acne since my early tween years, and after starting to use rice berry sunscreen by liittllextra, my skin, which is extremely sensitive, very dry, and prone to breakouts, has seen improvement. I strongly suggest this sunscreen if you have sensitive, dry skin and are dealing with acne. I usually layer it over rice berry moisturizer and it feels amazing! It's so moisturizing and makes my skin feel so plump, it doesn’t sting my eyes or any part of my face, and from what I can tell, the sunscreen itself has not contributed to my breakouts. It also gives such a beautiful glow from within, which makes me feel a little bit better about my skin despite my pretty severe acne. Highly recommend this sunscreen! I’m a male with a beard and am currently using the BoJ. Overall it’s my favorite I’ve used because it’s truly the very first that I can literally apply directly to my eye lids and it has ZERO affect on my eyes immediately or throughout the day. It also looks fantastic on the skin - dries down quickly with no shine and I’ve noticed a nice pore blurring effect. BUT I would not consider it moisturizing enough to not first apply a light moisturizer under it. I find my skin to feel a little dry throughout the day if I don’t. Also if I over apply in my beard, I will get some flaking here and there. LOVE the price point though. Never again will spend a lot of money on something that needs to be worn so liberally.
I bought BoJ after recommendation here only to learn on reddit it is not water resistant so if i have oily face and sweating what is point ?? It will slide

I use powdered sunscreen to touch up by using mineral makeup with sunscreen (like Bare Minerals) or using my own mix of Hawaiian Tropic with zinc oxide powder. Is great for applying to where my hair parts on my head, around my hairline, my ears and backs of my hands too.
If u like the dr jart, numbuzn has one that works exactly the same, is spf 50+ and 1/3rd the price. If your skin tone is very deep then neutrogena has a mineral one in a wide range of shades. If ur very oily then eucerin oil control is the very best. My current fave is from Kaine, can’t believe no-one is talking about it
Can you please compare kaine to numbuzin? I got numbuzin cause everyone talks about it as truly weightless but it gives me shine and greasy feeling and it’s not even hot outside yet. I’ve been looking at kaine, do you consider it being lighter? Tanks
Kaine is water resistant, it’s a unique texture that feels very robust/resistant like a sports sunscreen might but without the greasiness and heaviness, has a velvety demi-matte finish, feels light weight a breathable. It green but doesn’t have the color correct/ coverage of numbuzn. I’m extremely oily and fair skinned with rosacea, I don’t particularly like numbuzn or dr jart as a sunscreen, if i use sufficient amount then it makes me look unwell, I just use a little as a color corrector in the evening over moisturizer.
Adding a shoutout for the Versed Replenishing Body Lotion. SPF 30, mineral sunscreen that is creamy and blends right in (at least on my fair skin). No weird lines in my elbow creases or spots in my pores - best body mineral sunscreen I’ve found!
For all the sensitive skin people like myself, I've been trying to figure out light actives to include in my skin regimen - would appreciate any light retinol products you can recommend specifically for sensitive skin. Also as a non-US viewer, I always appreciate when you share non-US brands that are accessible to us! Thank you so much for the effort you put into educating us!
Acne prone skin usually means oily skin… that’s me. Nothing has been able to replace La Roche Posay Anthelios Matte finish (I’ve tried all the sunscreens recommended by influencers and this one is king for 15 years now). With that said, it doesn’t break me out. Other things do like hormones, bad eating, stress, etc. this year I discovered a Korean product Dr. Ceauracle vegan kombucha tea - very affordable. Ever since I’ve used this I no longer have the clusters around the mouth area after years and years trying several product from most expensive to cheapest. This is the only thing I’ve accidentally discovered has helped with breakouts. 🤷🏻♀️ maybe anecdotal but I’d say worth a shot. I also use 2% bha Paula choice, tretinoin, Vit. C. These did not help with the breakout clusters. I still use them but it’s the Dr. Ceauracle that keep the breakouts at bay or minimize the time the breakout linger. Hope this helps.
I have a similar problem and US drugstore sunscreens just aren’t compatible with my face. Dr. Idriss mentioned the tone up one by UV Aqua. Their Super Moisture UV Gel (not the Essence) is actually better for oily and acne prone skin. It comes out as a runny lotion but as you rub it in, it becomes a thin gel and then disappears. It takes 5 minutes or so to dry down when it is more humid but once it does, I can’t even feel it. It’s relatively inexpensive too. Biore UV Aqua Watery Essence is very similar but it irritated my eyes. I’m also using Missha Soft Finish Sun Milk. It’s a runny lotion too and leaves a slight matte finish and has a little bit of a primer effect in that your pores and redness look a little improved. Hope this helps.
Do you use double cleansing in the evening? A lot of time the remaining SPF on your face it's the culprit, even if you think you washed it ok. I'm having the same issue, the 5th year in the row. And as other mentioned, the hormonal changes and the stress are major trigger factors.
I have oily skin and I've used these oily skin suitable ones.. still made my face look greasy. I. Love. These. Haru Haru Wonder sunscreen and the Eucerin Oil Free sunscreen!
I’ve been using the Canmake Mermaid Skin (clear) sunscreen for about a year and I LOVE it. It goes on clear, rubs in very quickly, sets quickly, and wears wonderfully under makeup. I am 54 and have combo skin and it’s perfect. I find it to be moisturizing, but not greasy at all. I also love the Beauty of Joseon sunscreen, but it takes a bit longer to dry down. It’s also great under makeup. Neither one bothers my VERY sensitive eyes.
I've been using Kiehl's Better Sunscreen serum spf 50. Since you've mentioned it in a earlier video. It makes my face a bit shiny but works great. I also love ISDIN mineral sunscreen, the non-tinted. I'm surprised you didn't mention that brand today. Thanks for helping us find the right sunscreen Dr. Idriss. 🌞💜🤓
BOJ for life! I initially tried the sun stick because I have oily skin and wanted that matte look. Then I tried the cream version and omg life changer! Blends quickly like a serum! Thank you for also including body sunscreens! I've been using Super Goop's Play so I am glad you included it on your list.
Yes! Do you mean the Dynasty Cream? I too love BOJ Relief Sun, but it’s very shiny, so I’d love to try a more matte look. But the sticks… I’m afraid it’s more difficult to get a good amount of sunscreen on?
This is the best video ever. The kind of stress of finding a sunscreen that matches for various reasons can finally be solved! Also, I didn’t realize if the sunscreen burns your eyes, you should switch. I always thought my eyes were too sensitive
Same! Keep looking. They are out there. “Drier” ones work best for me since they don’t move around so much and sit on top of skin more. Also SOME Japanese sunscreens work for me too.
@@Deserttree001 It seems pricy at around $75.00. I use it every day and didn’t have to repurchase for about 4 or 5 months later. And it has photoaging ingredients 😁
Please do a session on maturation arrest acne! Acne that’s noninflammatory…closed comedones stuck inside. It makes my skin look “pebbly!!!” Help! And I don’t want my sunscreen to make it worse!!!
My favourite one for everyday use, after years and years of trial and error with sunscreens, is the Skin1004 hyalu cica( also korean). It's affordable, beautiful and lightweight under makeup, good for reapplication... I've been using it for two years and even though I go on trying others it is still my HG sunscreen. It isn't water resistant though but for everyday use it's perfection in a bottle!!
What sunscreen should i be putting on my child? Are the regular ones suitable or should you use something specific? Sometimes I put my face sunscreen on my toddler, could it damage his young skin? Not the sunscreen as such but all the extras that make it nice on my face?
Thank you! Several questions: 1) my am moisturizer has spf 35, do I need to put an additional layer of spf 50 after it? (Hot & humid summer) Does mixing spf products cancel each other out? 2) how well in advance before going out should I apply spf? Does it need some time for it to start working? Or it protects right away after application?
Somewhat dry, fairly reactive/sensitive, acne-prone, Fitzpatrick Type-II, early 40s skin here. My tops would be these: 1) Isntree Onion 2) Milani SPF BFF 3) BoJ relief sun 4) Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella 5) Black Girl Sunscreen ** I've tried well over 100 sunscreens in the past few years, and I've yet to find a mineral sunscreen that agrees with my skin/eyes.
Skin Aqua is actually a tinted sunscreen and the purple one u have is to tone up dull yellow skin. I have the red one which works great to give me a glow in the morning... They are truely the only ones I found which is inexpensive (as sunscreen SHOULD BE) and not leave my face in a freaky mud yellow tint.. and really improves skin tone and acts as a great primer before makeup
No. You should reapply every 2hrs. Add a layer 15min before you go outside at lunch and you'll be good. I found this out the hard way years ago when I walked the 1/2hr home from work at 5:30pm on a sunny summer day with the same morning sunscreen and I was literally fried when I go home! That's why I love the Colorscience mineral powder/brush thing since it's easy to carry and no mirror necessary to apply.
Technically if you don’t sweat much there is something there but reapplying before going for an hour walk out in the sun would be advisable. (If you are using spf 50, you would get some protection from the sun but 1 hour is really long) 10-15mins perhaps is more suitable. If not u have to re apply a spf50 because lower than that is insufficient and be sure to check the UV index!
Yay!! Love learning all about sunscreens from a dermatologist! Would you also recommend some sunscreen for the lips? I am having so many freckles on the lips!! Help!
Thank you so much for every video, they are so helpful ! The dermatologist i go to do not explain or recommend anything to me what best or worst to use she did nothing to help. So your knowledge are truly helpful and appreciated. Thank you so much ! Love to see what sunscreen I’m likely to need
New fan here, cannot believe you’re 40 you’re gorgeous I’m inspired by you so much! THANK YOU SO MUCH for talking about the eyes burning it makes me so mad lol
Elta is smooth and light, but BOJ works the same at a lower cost! I love that make up applies well over it. My husband loves Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella hyalucica for its no white cast.
The Skin Aqua essence comes in a lightly tinted version called “latte”, which I was about to order but didn’t bcs I read that it looked oily and I’m already extremely oily. It also comes in mint, and lavender.
I just purchased elta- MD extremely drying And also DRMTLGY same result. Very frustrating. Thank you so much for sharing this. Also you make my Saturday morning 😉
I wish you were more specific about the sunscreens for *‘sensitive’* skin. Which sunscreens are best for sensitive skin that’s also dry? Which ones are best for sensitive skin that’s oily/combo? I have highly sensitive skin, and my skin gets very dry during the Winter, to the point where lines start to form. During the Summer, my skin produces more oil, but to a moderate level (which I wouldn’t necessarily call “oily”, but rather just a normal amount of oil for skin hydration). My skin has also reacted badly to most moisturizers I’ve tried. In my case, moisturizers tend to severely dry out my skin, to the point where it feels very tight and dry and lines start to form. I’m not sure what the cause of this is (because these moisturizers were from brands recommended for sensitive skin), but I’m suspecting that these moisturizers could have contained hyaluronic acid. So, since I’ve had bad experiences with topical creams, I’m hoping to find a sunscreen that doesn’t have ingredients that will make my skin react. It needs to be suitable for both sensitive & dry skin.
Maybe you find a good spf that suits you? Because I'm struggling with the same thing. My skin really tolerated the dr Ceuracle hyal reyouth spf but after using retinol it started reacting to every sunscreen that I've tried, especially to chemical. At the same time, mineral sunscreens make my skin very dry. And I don't know what to do
I have oily, acne-prone skin. My go-to sunscreen is the ELF Invisible SPF. It has a matte finish and works great both alone and under makeup. It's also water-resistant. Another favorite is the Allies of Skin The One SPF 50, which is similar to the ELF Invisible but a bit more lightweight and with a higher SPF factor. It is also water-resistant. For makeup days, I LOVE Paula's Choice Youth-Extending SPF 50. It's not matte, but it's super lightweight, although not water-resistant. On a bare face, I enjoy the Elta MD UV Clear SPF Tinted. My only gripe is that it tends to pill with many moisturizers and serums, so I usually just use toner underneath.
I really hope you see this question - - I really struggle with cleaning my face at the end of the day. And that's one of the reasons why I don't want to wear sunscreen, is that it's really hard for me to wash my face if I'm not in the shower. I have severe disabilities that make it very difficult for me to bend over the sink, but if I use cleansers that I have to wipe off of my face without much water, I feel like it's too much drag on my face, and that is too stressful on a face like mine which should really only be washed once per day anyway. But I don't get in the shower at the end of the day. But I'm 54 and I'm definitely dealing with a lifetime of sun damage and find myself wearing a UV mask and a UV hat to protect my face, but as a result, I'm not getting any sun on my face and son feels really important. . I just now used some cleansing oil but then I had to work really hard to get that off and then I used an Avene cleanser that you don't have to use with much water. But my face feels super irritated now. Can you help? I do want to figure out a way to practically clean my face at the end of the day, so that I will wear sunscreen every day. I live in Colorado, the sun is very strong here, and I love to be outside. Thank you for your guidance.. I watch you regularly, and I really trust you, and I have started using several of your products (and in fact, now that I think about it today, I worn your sunscreen today)
I use house of joseon based on your recommendation. I wanted something stronger for summer. I tried a supergoop product. It burned my eyes and then my face. Thank you for your previous videos on lip and face basting as the triple paste has cleared up the burn in a couple days! Funny part I have normal skin and can usually put anything on it without adverse side affects. Thank you for all your help!!!!!
I have been using Olay SPF 30 for sensitive skin for years it’s a hybrid it’s always treated me very well. They just came out with a mineral sunscreen with colloidal oatmeal ❤ I’m using it for the first time today it’s thicker than what I’m used to but I like it and love the ingredients
I would love content on oily skin for mature skin, not acne related. It is hard to find any content that helps to address this issue, would love your help ❤
As a redhead who can burn is less 5 min... I do not recommend the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Sunscreen SPF 50. I tried this out and my face was covered in freckles when I got home. I haven't seen freckles like that on my face in years since I started wearing sunscreen religiously.
Don't think that the Tatcha sunscreen is only for dark skin! I am 63, very pale, and have sensitive skin. Tatcha is my favorite face sunscreen! (Even the Drmtlty tinted sunscreen is too dark for me!) The Tatcha is hydrating and works well under makeup. As pale as I am, Tatcha is also excellent for a no-makeup day.
I just broke down & bought Tatcha. Mostly bc I don't dislike it & it's like wearing nothing which will keep me wearing sunscreen. Northern European ancestry with light skin
I have sensitive combination skin, oily and dry. I use beauty of joseon in the winter because it’s so nourishing. Then La Roche posay’s oil control spf in the summer.
Skin Aqua is my absolute favorite. They have a green one too! My eyes can’t handle glow screen but the Japanese sunscreens are so reasonable and work so well.❤❤❤
*Is there any advice for teens/young people for back and body acne, is there anything I could be doing to help aid and improve it? I have been trying to get rid of it but it doesn't seem to go away, I have acne occurring on my back, legs and thighs*
If you have dry skin and want a to tinted one…the ELF dupe for Supergoop is pretty good. (The non-tinted is too). But I like *hydrated* (without being too heavy). Another good one for normal to dry skin is Skin 1004 Hylau-Cica one. I plan to try it next. I’m in a humid environment and like both. The Elf more for cold weather and the Skin 1004 for summer (just add a little bit of serum foundation for skin tint). I’ve heard the Biore and Beauty of J. next.
And....🥁🥁 for Fitzpatrick scale 2, for a tinted sunscreen, not orange, not dark, there is LA Roche Posay Anthios light fluid sunscreen, tinted mineral 50 face. Just tried it for the first time yesterday, and it's a treasure.
If you have not tried it yet check out Benton's Air Fit UV Defense! I was honestly blown away, it is the most lightweight and natural feeling spf50+ sunscreen I've ever tried!! (Does contain some rosemary oil but the smell is so light and doesn't linger at all) ☀️
Combo acne prone early 40s skin here. My favourite sunscreens are:
1) BoJ relief sun
2) Frudia Ultra Uv shield
3) face republic full bloom sun tint
4) Paula's Choice Essential glow
5) APLB glutothione sunscreen
(+ honorable mentions: Skin1004, Tocobo, Scinic, Neogen Airy, Holika Holika Aloe)

Hi Dr. Idress. Just bought your cleanser at Sephora. I love it. Doesn’t burn my sensitive eyes. 2 thumbs up👍🏻👍🏻
oily acne prone skin. i prefer skin1004 over BoJ, to me it feels almost identical except it's a little less oily
Adding a shoutout for the Versed Replenishing Body Lotion. SPF 30, mineral sunscreen that is creamy and blends right in (at least on my fair skin). No weird lines in my elbow creases or spots in my pores - best body mineral sunscreen I’ve found!
Yes!! This is the best body sunscreen 🙌🏻
If you're in Europe, check out Dr. Sam's.
Pure Shea butter has Vitamin A in it. Natrium has a 0.05 retinal. The Ordinary and Avene also have retinaldehyde cream
Some By Mi Retinol 0.1% I'm eczema prone and this one doesn't irritate my skin.
Thank you!! With the help of this video, we'll all be WEARING THE DAMN SUNSCREEN💜💜
Lordy! I love learning from you Ms. Nerd❤I am in love with Beauty of Joseon and had no idea it is a hybrid.
I am 61 years young and still have acne prone skin. I haven't found a sunscreen, not tried all brands, that doesn't cause breakouts.
What about EltaMD clear?
@@NYC1025 was it the vegan kombuca gel or essence? Thank you!
I have oily skin and I've used these oily skin suitable ones.. still made my face look greasy. I. Love. These. Haru Haru Wonder sunscreen and the Eucerin Oil Free sunscreen!
Is didn’t cause any clogging?
@@mimi3981 The Haru Haru and the Eucerin one? Nah not at all! I got the Eucerin one from a European website. The American version is greasy.
I’m really liking the Round Labs sunscreen. Sits beautifully under makeup and is moisturizing.
@@christinegonzalez6777 thanks for sharing!!!
So wanted this video. Please also help with setting sprays and also sunscreen over makeup
Yes!
I use Isdin tinted mineral sunscreen. It is the best primer for under makeup and reapplies over makeup like a dream. 🙌🏻
@Soulcat28 thank you so much for sharing! I'm going to try it 💫
@@Deserttree001 It seems pricy at around $75.00. I use it every day and didn’t have to repurchase for about 4 or 5 months later. And it has photoaging ingredients 😁
Supergoop has a setting spray sunscreen and a powder brush on, both great!
My husband had sensitive skin, and most sunscreens gives him bumps on the face. He finally tried the one from Laneige, and he is happy with it.
Please do a session on maturation arrest acne! Acne that’s noninflammatory…closed comedones stuck inside. It makes my skin look “pebbly!!!” Help! And I don’t want my sunscreen to make it worse!!!
Black girl sunscreen is my holy grail as a darker girly and Murad, but in this economy BGS for the win
I’ve been using the la roche posay one, I’m oily and it’s humid asf where I live. Blends in nicely and doesn’t make me feel like a grease pan
The doctor is delivering top notch content... AS ALWAYS 👏👏👏👏
I live in Poland and I buy polish brand SPF 50 Dermika. Really good, but watched your video anyway. You are the best❤
What sunscreen should i be putting on my child? Are the regular ones suitable or should you use something specific? Sometimes I put my face sunscreen on my toddler, could it damage his young skin? Not the sunscreen as such but all the extras that make it nice on my face?
Thank you! Several questions:
1) my am moisturizer has spf 35, do I need to put an additional layer of spf 50 after it? (Hot & humid summer) Does mixing spf products cancel each other out?
2) how well in advance before going out should I apply spf? Does it need some time for it to start working? Or it protects right away after application?
I use the Ultra Violette hydrating sunscreen and it is amazing, makes your skin glow, provides protection and doesn't cause acne breakouts
Somewhat dry, fairly reactive/sensitive, acne-prone, Fitzpatrick Type-II, early 40s skin here.
My tops would be these:
1) Isntree Onion
2) Milani SPF BFF
3) BoJ relief sun
4) Skin 1004 Madagascar Centella
5) Black Girl Sunscreen
** I've tried well over 100 sunscreens in the past few years, and I've yet to find a mineral sunscreen that agrees with my skin/eyes.
Still on unseen sunscreen from supergoop for the face and banana boat spf 100 for the body, works just fine for my skin and active life in the summer
If I apply sunscreen at 7am, work inside all morning, then go for an hour walk outside at noon, is my sunscreen still protecting me?
I agree with the other comment, you should apply 10-15m before going outside, and reapply every 2 hours
Technically if you don’t sweat much there is something there but reapplying before going for an hour walk out in the sun would be advisable. (If you are using spf 50, you would get some protection from the sun but 1 hour is really long)
10-15mins perhaps is more suitable.
If not u have to re apply a spf50 because lower than that is insufficient and be sure to check the UV index!

Yay!! Love learning all about sunscreens from a dermatologist! Would you also recommend some sunscreen for the lips? I am having so many freckles on the lips!! Help!
My lovely sunscreens:Roundlab,BOJ,Shiseido. Thanks for amazing video dr.Idriss 🌷
Thank you so much for every video, they are so helpful ! The dermatologist i go to do not explain or recommend anything to me what best or worst to use she did nothing to help. So your knowledge are truly helpful and appreciated. Thank you so much !
Love to see what sunscreen I’m likely to need
I've been ordering Altruist SPF 50 for several years from Amazon UK. It's amazing and doesn't burn my eyes.
Dr Idriss thank you for this video!! The lipstick is beautiful! Can you please share what lipstick you wear?
I just purchased elta- MD extremely drying And also DRMTLGY same result. Very frustrating. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Also you make my Saturday morning 😉
Obsessed with you and your vids ❤️! Cant wait for your products to become available in Europe!!
Aww thank you!!! 🫶
Excellent video, Dr. Thanks for taking the time to make this!!

Purito daily soft touch
I've been waiting that topic about sunscreen, love it❤
I use house of joseon based on your recommendation.
The best i’ve tried for dry skin is DRMTLGY tinted spf 46 ! OMG it’s an Amazing Sunscreen ever
Your nails are gorgeous, Dr Idriss❤
I love your videos, and I love that you demo the product so we can see it ❤
I personally love the Bioderma and Uriage sunscreens. Better than the US ones. Some of the Uriage and Bioderma ones are an absolute pleasure to use.
I would love content on oily skin for mature skin, not acne related. It is hard to find any content that helps to address this issue, would love your help ❤
Also really love Round Lab!!!
Lightsaver is amazing -and they just either released or will be a non-tinted version. Great product!
Thanks for this amazing video! I'd love to get your picks for reapplying with powdered make up already on 😬
Avobenzone is the eye stinging culprit
Can you talk about layering SPF? Like a mineral on top of chemical? I’ve heard there are some considerations
Got the Canmake sunscreen based on this recommendation, and I've been using it for a few days now. It's amazing! Thank you!
Can you do a video on options for diminishing or getting rid of smile lines 🤞🏽🤞🏽
Skin Aqua is my absolute favorite. They have a green one too! My eyes can’t handle glow screen but the Japanese sunscreens are so reasonable and work so well.❤❤❤
Makes me wonder if you will release a sunscreen product soon. I enjoy your skincare line❤ its change my life!
Can we revisit the Hair Removal Topic especially for facial hair?
*Is there any advice for teens/young people for back and body acne, is there anything I could be doing to help aid and improve it? I have been trying to get rid of it but it doesn't seem to go away, I have acne occurring on my back, legs and thighs*
Video about the ingredients of the product? Like cicapentasiloxane, dimethicone , mineral oil , paraffinum liquidum???
Google
@@indiatastic no way!! Really!?!??!
i’m using skin aqua as an oily skinned girl and it really saved me! it’s literally better than the biore one T___T
The Kiehl’s Better Screen is my holy grail right now!
I’ve heard the Biore and Beauty of J. next.
Thank you for all the recommendations. Anything on how to reapply sunscreen over make up? Any specific product for that purpose? ❤
And....🥁🥁 for Fitzpatrick scale 2, for a tinted sunscreen, not orange, not dark, there is LA Roche Posay Anthios light fluid sunscreen, tinted mineral 50 face. Just tried it for the first time yesterday, and it's a treasure.
I'm so glad that you introduce west sunscreen too
If you have not tried it yet check out Benton's Air Fit UV Defense! I was honestly blown away, it is the most lightweight and natural feeling spf50+ sunscreen I've ever tried!! (Does contain some rosemary oil but the smell is so light and doesn't linger at all) ☀️
Thank you for sharing!
You are so so gorgeous omg, I will def try out these products!!
You look lovely per usual 😊
Great roundup, thanks Dr. Idriss! Would you consider a video on the best self tanners? xo
Love love love the innbeauty sunscreen
