As a dude who carries a backpack everywhere I 100% understand Omar’s obsession with packaging. Cleaning dried sunscreen out of a backpack is a nightmare.
Especially because you're meant to reapply them, so the companies know we are going to travel around with them in our bags\backpacks. Like, what's stopping them to give us a more reliable packaging, my LRP sunscreen always loses the cap around my bag, I'm just lucky it never spilled everywhere.
Hi Michelle, can I just say, thank you for not abandoning your Aussie followers as you become a bigger influencer. It happens so much with Aussie influencers and is so disappointing when they recommend products I can’t get my hands on. I also love that your recommendations are based on both your (or your husband’s) opinion as well as science! Please keep doing amazing work ❤️
I'm new to Australian sunscreen. Tried Korean and Japanese ones, but somehow they don't suit my skin. Most of them clash with my skin care products and break me out or turn me red and itchy. I have tried both physical and mineral sunscreens for 10 years so far. Sad to say, but this is how I found out I have sensitive skin. I tried Hamilton and it's lovely. But I didn't like that it's a tinted sunscreen. It turns me orange. Any recommendations from anyone?
Agreed!!! Huge reason I’m such a devout follower of Michelle’s is because it is so hard to find reputable Australian content creators who are willing to talk to an Aussie audience. I also fell into the Supergoop trap pre-Michelle bc the only sunscreen recs I ever got were from Americans and Europeans :(
@@LabMuffinBeautyScienceI can imagine seeing him playing with those lids and squeezing that packaging and waiting for the blow out and subsequent clean up then trying to refocus on the video was what was going through your head. His playfulness though I could see was not what he was there for but his experience and I would have flipped myself. He did give us an insight into the package and what his experience was and what he wanted in his packaging needs to which as a frequent traveler I always appreciate a different perspective and approach
The bestest sunscreen I’ve tried is liittlllextra riceberry sunscreen. This sunscreen is the only one with black rice water and white mulberry, which is good for your skin. After using it, I don’t feel sweaty at all and there’s no white cast. It soaks in fast and makes my skin glow and stay hydrated all day.
I've tried the dermacoo sunscreen before...but similar to you, I'm also now using riceberry sunscreen, with SPF 50 and PA++++ infused with niacinamide. It doesn’t leave a whitecast, it’s not heavy, and doesn’t make my skin oily after application... It’s perfect for my oily skin.
I used to live in Australia, and I have access to the sunscreens there I love Cancer Council sunscreens, I trust them when I need heavy-duty sun protection on a beach day. They are also affordable and come in HUGE sizes.
My sunscreen wishlist: - Sunscreens that are matte AND leave no white cast. The venn diagram of sunscreens that are adequately mattifying and leave no white cast AND don't pill (like the Eucerin one for me) is 3 circles separated by a kilometre each. 😢 - Better reapplication-friendly, especially on the go. The sunscreen cushions are looking quite promising imo, but most of the currently available ones are mineral and don't work for my brown skin.
well, id say try SVR sun secure .ultra mat gel. It really is matt Like IT says on the packaging. I have combination oily skin and this is Matte on me If I dont apply anything else underneath (which I dont normally do because Im a minimalist when it comes to skincare). I only apply this and then I apply a sunscreen for the undereyes specifically. None make me break out. Hope that helps
@@Purple_Alien2511 It's a special type of formula with no water, based on isododecane (evaporates) and silicones. Frezyderm and Hello Sunday the primer one ("everything one"?) have this base too w/ some different filters. Iirc in the US the Supergoop Unseen & Trader Joe's dupe use this base but with only old filters obvs. The SVR one has the best filter combo imo, but scented. Beware that it's a pretty polarizing finish & feel - will look matte/blurred, but never quite dry down.
It’s not totally matte, but I like the haruharu wonder black rice airyfit sunscreen. I have oily skin so most sunscreens are wayy too shiny on me, this one has more of a natural skin finish
@sicsempertyrannus6685 I like that one too. The closest I have found to the finish I want. Its great for the winter months. For the summer, my favourite one is Garnier PureActive BHA + Niacinamide Daily UV Fluid SPF50+ 40 ml. Its quite matte for the first application by hand and even matter when reapplied with a powder puff!
Love the addition of the husband! I hope you can continue to find ways to navigate the laws surrounding sunscreen in order to do right by your viewers (in all ways). Good job as always!
IN the USA and thought I would splurge and get La Roche-Posay SPF100 "Anthelios Melt in Milk" Sunscreen. Crazy name. But this is a game changer and now will be my daily. I am suuuuper white and burn in 5 minutes so besides it being a SPF 100 it goes on so fast, no bad smell and feels so light. Take my money. Hope this helps someone out there. (it does not contain the new ingredient she mentioned)
I like this one, too! It seems like Ulta frequently has it on sale so that's a bonus. I picked mine up during the sale and have been really happy with it. Also like the high SPF. There are other sunscreens that feel comfortable to wear but they're only SPF 30 so I really only wear those on lower UV days.
The great thing about Australian sunscreens are cost per value, you get high trustable protection in a good amount that’s very budget friendly, but because of the shipment they become pricey overseas Australia. I like a lot of Korean sunscreens, but they all come in only 50ml and they are used up pretty quickly. I wish they were more range of affordable sunscreens everywhere and begging Australia to ship and share their sunscreens more
Whenever I have friends visiting Australia’s from America or Europe I always recommend they leave some space in their suitcase to take home some of our sunscreen.
Omar was a hit! Appreciate all the extra effort you put into this video to comply with Oz's new rules for conflicts of interest! Omar's hate for flip-top sunscreens was hilarious! At least to me, because I wish all skin care came with flip-top packaging, because I am sick of caps not screwing on correctly and ending up falling down the bathroom sink drain. Maybe what Omar needs is packing like the Etude House SoonJung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream, where you have to twist the bottle for the cream to come out! Makes it great for travel!
I tried the BoJ rice sunscreen as per your recommendation and liked it. But then I started working in a pharmacy (in Germany) and the Eucerin oil control gel cream is very accessable. I tried it and it's currently my fav! The texture is not lighter than BoJ, but i find it more comfortable to wear and not as sticky. Like Michelle said, it's not matt, but satin-like finish, butttt it's so comfortable to wear and it doesn't get oilier or stickier throughout the day! I went on a hike using it too and I barely noticed it on my face. I think I'll try the LRP UV Mune one next or the Biore. Thanks Michelle for the recommendations!
Love that you talk to Australian sunscreens Michelle, please don't stop! I really appreciate hearing about our local sunscreens over international ones that we can't get. In saying that though, I totally use the Skin1004 one haha since for some reason the BOJ one breaks me out (potentially the rice or something).
The addition of Omar to this video is gold! I love not only his sunscreen opinions (esp. the piling up 😂) but about the packaging. He definitely brings a different perspective and I love it. Thanks for the updated recommendations!
Commenting as a fellow aussie who also wants to hear more about Australian sunscreen from you! We are here, just outnumbered by the global majority :’) I currently use the Hamilton sunscreen for how affordable it is and do also struggle with bottles exploding on me so I can totally relate to Omar :’) This video came at the perfect time as I’m just about to restock sunscreen, really really appreciate your work Michelle thank you!!! 🫶🏽
Hamilton is top drawer anyway..you're on a good one. The Australian Neutrogeina one is good (not the American one, has different ingredients) and I bought a 'no brand' one from Drakes, when I forgot to pack it on holiday, everyone used it and it worked perfect, I've not seen it since, but we didn't have one sunburn that holiday!!!
I always look forward to your sunscreen recommendations! Thank-you for not abandoning your Aussie followers. You're the reason I started taking sunscreen seriously. Love the addition of Omar and his perspective of things, you guys strike a great balance 😄
What Omar hates in the packaging is what I love! Haha. I don't want any products with screw tops if I don't have to have them, it just adds to the time of my skin care process. I have been waiting for this video, so thank you! I look forward to your mineral one! I just wish I could get your Cancer Council sunscreen in the US without blowing the budget on shipping. At least I have Bondi Sands.
Please, please continue to review Australian sunscreens. 🙏 I really appreciate and respect your knowledge and time and effort you put into these videos ❤
Two of my new-found water resistant sunscreens are OMI Sun Bear Active (Japanese) and Isa Knox Sun Pro Extreme (Korean). The Sun Bear is lighter weight and Isa Knox is slightly heavier. Isa Knox protected me (along with a hat) from a round of golf during a hot summer day! :)
My sunscreen wishlist would be: - no avobenzone / butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane (I'm sick of it leaving yellow stains on fabric) - no homosalate, octisalate / ethylhexyl salicylate / octyl salicylate, butyloctyl salicylate (I hate the smell) - no particulate UV filters (I have eczema on my face and often get white residue clinging to rough patches) - no strong fragrance - no pilling Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any Australian sunscreens currently on the market matching my criteria, but there is a new one in the ARTG database I'm hoping will be in stores soon for me to try. Maybe it'll be the one?
@@cal8061 we don't, and they don't meet my 'no particulates' rule either (both have tris-biphenyl triazine which I've experienced white residue from in other products), but I'll probably give them a try when I visit the UK! I've seen a couple people complain about P20 products leaving yellow stains on fabric even though they don't contain avobenzone, so I'm curious to see if I can replicate that issue 👩🏼🔬
Hello, Australian here, I just found your channel today. Watched the Zinc video and now this one. I seem to get a allergic reaction to sunscreens and was recommended to try zinc. So I bought the bondi sands product Zinc Mineral SPF 50+, which has wprked for me. No burning/irritating feeling to the skin and no burning eyes. Would definitely love to see a video on best zinc recommendations and for aussies if/whenever you possibly make such a video. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for having the same skin as me, same preferences, same genetic predisposition, and a wealth of knowledge you’re willing to share. You’re my absolute favorite, and number one for recommendations.
I’m a super pale guy and I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my face looked a different colour to my body when using the UVmune400 every time so THANK YOU for explaining why… I’m going to switch to the Biore !
As a pasty European with a history of sun allergy, I'm happy that you've included some brands availlable in Europe. Not everyone with an international audience does that!
I'm from Europe, skin type 1 and sun allergy on top. I use ISDIN, it's a Spanish brand. They have one for people with sun allergy also at SPF 100+ It is rather expensive, but it does help with my allergy on top of not burning as fast as I normally would. EDIT: I get it at the pharmacy. Haven't seen them in a shop yet.
As an Aussie viewer, I really appreciate your effort to include Australian sunscreen. I really identified with your story about the viewer trying to import supergoop from overseas due to the lack of Australian sunscreen reviews on YT. Thanks! ❤️
Thanks! I appreciate the inclusion of Australian sunscreens. Have you considered making a video about sport sunscreens? I'm a distance swimmer...it's very hard to find sunscreens that stay on through hourslong swims and it's not easy to reapply when you're a few kilometres from shore! I know that lots of swimmers and competitive athletes who can't stop to reapply really struggle with sun protection. Thick, pasty, cosmetically awful zinc sunscreens seem to work best, and some swimmers even use diaper rash creams like Sudocrem and Desitin because they cling to skin well. I basically look like a mime before a long swim. I've tried so many chemical sunscreens because they look and feel better, but they all seem to wash off too fast. I'd love to learn more about my options and understand more about why some products stay on while others don't!
You're so right with what you said about the Australian regulations regarding sunscreens and influencers. I'm not from Australia, but it is only due to your videos that I gave sunscreens another try! I bought a few of your recommended ones I am now finally using sunscreen daily, also using an amount that's much closer to what you recommended than what I would have thinly spread on. I never used sunscreen in my everyday routine before because I hate the feeling of greasy and sticky products on my skin.
I bought the Beauty Of Joseon on your recommendation and I love it. It’s perfect for my white British skin (I’m 68% English) and have dark blonde hair which is now lightened. I have listened to so many influencers and your recommendations are the ones I come back to. James Welsh also recommended this one too and seeing you gift it to your wedding guests is a genius idea !!!!
@@emilyteacher5906 The Beauty of Joseon one?? I've been using it for a while and haven't had any problems and used it recently while on holiday in Southern Spain and only got burned when I missed a section of my forehead but realised and kept out of the sun for a couple of days and then made sure to cover every centimetre of my face as I'm usually really careful
I used to use Biore Aqua Rich and it was really good, but the Beauty of Joseon one is just an obsession! The most comfortable thing ever, and I feel like it also has this pretty primer effect on the way your skin looks.
I usually use the Nivea water gel on face and body and was so impressed with the UV deep protect. It’s really hydrating and feels more like a moisturizer. I didn’t notice any cooling, fragrance or alcohol. It’s really nice under makeup! It pills less than the Nivea water gel I used to use as well, haven’t had it pill with makeup yet. Also love Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence. Japanese gel sunscreens are so good for daily wear under makeup.
I completely agree with Omar’s point about sunscreen packaging. I far prefer the twistable lids because I don’t have to worry about them in my bag everyday. However, I’m considering getting silicone bottle coverings so I can accept more types of sunscreens with better UVA or Water Resistant ratings into my everyday rotation, so maybe that’s so,etching Omar might enjoy as well for added bag security (they are kinda like skincare condoms for products you’re worried about exploding). Unfortunately the better coverage/resistance ones are usually in these more exploitable containers, and most of the larger bottles for affordability are also in flip tops.
Banana Boat "Light As Air" sunscreen is the absolute BEST in the U.S. market right now in terms of comfort and ease of use. No matter how many times i re-apply my skin always feels as if there's nothing on it! Dries clear, dry, light and comfy ! BEST SUNSCREEN EVER!
Here in Canada, I just discovered Garnier's Ombrelle Complete Dry Touch 60 FPS with Meroxyl technology, non-greasy, fragrance and colorant free and water resistant 80 minutes and I love it. Even on my face. No shine at all, perfect under foundation. On sale at around 15$ for 200 ml. Love it!
I'm intrigued but so hesitating because the Ombrelle 60 Face hypoallergenic stung my eyes and gave me inflamed acne a couple years ago. I got a mineral one that doesn't hurt me but it looks like clown paint. Decisions!
I found the Nivea really stung my eyes. The Biore, as well. Come to think, any time I use Japanese sunscreen, it’s the same story. Like, I haven’t had even one exception so far, and I’ve tried so many sunscreens. Nowadays I stick to European and Korean SPFs, which aren’t so hellbent at torching my eyeballs out. That said, Evy is the absolutely unparalleled king of eye sting. It’s leeegendary. I suspect the very technology that makes Evy have its amazing staying power on your skin also makes it impossible to wash out of your eyes. I’ve rebought it probably 30 times regardless, but these days it isn’t allowed anywhere near my eyes and I cover that area with other sunscreens.
I'm basically married to the EVY sunscreen, and I used to have that problem until I made sure to apply powder on my eyelids and around my eyes (especially outer and inner corner of the skin) immediately after applying the sunscreen. BUT I have super dry and oil-deficient skin (which is why I'm basically married to EVY, it has radically improved my skin in ways ordinary moisturisers didn't). With oily skin, powder probably won't help enough.
@@Call-me-AlI have dry leaning skin but I live in a horribly hot, humid, place that makes anybody sweat and I sometimes tear up a little when I laugh or yawn so I’m hesitant to give Evy another chance around my eyes, even with powder. Plus, I’ve noticed that when I powder, I never look matte where I live. The atmospheric moisture is too overwhelming. Despite my aggressive powdering, when I go out into the hot day I somehow end up looking immediately greasy. Powder is useless in this climate.
Thank you SO MUCH for including some brands that are sold in Europe! I detest wearing sunscreens and coincidentally have same skin requirements as you. All influencers I watch are outside of EU and have different brands avaible. Also, I cannot afford imported Korean or Japanese creams, so I´m looking forward to try some products you mentioned.
Hi. I'm Brazilian, also oily to mixed skin. Where I live in Brazil is hot and humid. I'm using the Aqua Skin UV Essence Tone Up Green Mint, it's a nightmare, as others asians I used. It let my face white (and I'm a tone of white). Also it lets oily. I think I'm done with asian sunscreen because of that oily finish and whitecast. My favorite one is Nivea Extra Radiance and Smooth, it's made in Thailand but I don't know if it's sell everywhere. It is here in Brazil. It let a glow not oily, doesn't leave a whitecast... It dries with the hours becoming a more matte finish. It's beautiful.
I was still getting pigmentation with whatever I tried, in the end I discovered Eucerin SPF100, its primary used for actinic keratosis but I love it. It doesnt leave any oily skin, it immediately absorb, didnt burn eyes, didnt dry skin. I have dry sensitive light skin prone to hormonal acne and pigmentation. This sunscreen finally worked even for me, just tip for someone.
As somehow who has a more.....let's say vigorous bag experience, I appreciate Omar's comments about bag explosions! Also this is the first time I've heard anyone talk about the similarities in core formula between the BoJ and any others, and since the BoJ stings my eyes so badly and I experience just enough white cast to be annoying, it's so good to know that I should most likely avoid the Round Lab and Skin1004
In one of your videos you said sth like "the best sunscreen is the one you actually use", and that's helped me so much in figuring out which ones to buy or try. My fave is the Nivea UV Super Water Gel 50, and has been for years now, because the gel consistency is cooling and comfortable, and with a bit of powder on top it loses the shine it leaves. No heavy or sticky feeling, beautiful pump nozzles, and the 140g size is pretty affordable, especially if I compare it with the LRP sunscreen I used and struggled with before I found the beauty of Nivea Japan. I've since tried and liked some other sunscreens (the Skin Aqua UV super moisture Gel for example) but I keep coming back to this one. The affordability and the comfortable application and wear of it make me like to wear it.
I have found the Centela sunscreen this year and it’s my first Korean sunscreen. It is so amazing, not sticky, not greasy, very hydrating and makeup looks very nice on top of it.
I love the Skin1004 sunscreen as well. Both RoundLab and BoJ made my whole face burn, not just my eyes. Plus, if I was blindfolded I would never guess it's a sunscreen. If they ever discontinue it, I would literally cry.
Honestly I've been using the Bondi Sands Suncreen Lotion for face (not the one you mentioned in the video) just to get through the tube and not waste it, because not only does it make my already oily skin into an oil rig, but it also stings my eyes like crazy!! I feel there definitely aren't as many sunscreen options for oily skin havers. I'm not a fan of fragrance and find alcohol irritating, so Japanese sunscreens are hard for me to get into also. That Haruharu Wonder one looks good to me, especially since it's easily available to me at a good price. I'll likely go for that next. I've recently heard a lot of good things about the new Isntree Onion Fresh Fluid Sun Cream with 50 SPF (not their older Purple Protector 40 SPF one from the same line). It's a really recent release (I think May of this year?) so it's still not been reviewed by many yet, but most of the reviews I have seen are glowing. That'll probably be a added to my basket when I next need to restock my other skincare steps.
I’m very happy to see the laroche uv mune oil control gel on your list. It is my holy grail and I’ve been using it every day for over a year, I love it so much and yes it’s definitely on the pricier side but for me it is so worth it.
Been curious about this too but the two earlier tries with UV-mune has left my skin red and burning :( So very hesitant to invest incase I cannot wear this one either. They're not that cheap in Europe either.
I hog LRP sunscreens that aren't tinted or sprays. I wish Toleriane comes in a higher spf than 30 in my place I use that heavily during cold weather in my place.
I love that you used the swiss cheese model of layers - we looked at that type of model in regards to fatigue and risk management while I was studying the Psychophysiology of Sleep.
Ever since you introduced me to Evy years ago it's been my everyday sunscreen! It's easier to access to me as I live in Finland but I think I'd go through the trouble of ordering it overseas if I had to, I love it so much. I was happy to see it was still included in 2024 recommendations.
I live in an Asian country with cold winter and super hot, humid summer and I absolutely love La roche posay sunscreens, the Oil control version for summer and the Fluid for winter (P/s: I have dry skin. I’ve never tried but I think the texture and color of these sunscreen may not be suitable if you wanna wear it under makeup)
Bless you for continuing to talk about Australian sunscreens despite having to do a bit of legal adjustment! So important for people to have easy to access domestic options as well. Also love the laksa mention in the beginning as a half-Malaysian, that's a sweat test on its own! I actually prefer Korean sunscreens for the cosmetic elegance but yeah thank you for not forgetting your Aussie audience 💖 So funny how much Omar cares about the exploding potential but he's actually so real for that
You'll often find me staring mindlessly at the shelves filled with an assortment of oversees sunscreens at my local Chemist Warehouse so please Michelle, this Australian would really appreciate you keep talking about Australian sunscreens.
I wholeheartedly agree with Omar, we have to reapply SPF thoughtout the day and it's bloody annoying having explosions. I have the new La Roche-Posay Athelios UVMUNE 400 Kids version and the new cap is smaller than the top of a tictac box , it's inevitably going to explode on me soon and for a more costly SPF it's packaging needs to be changed. I need an SPF that I can throw in my picnic bag, beach bag etc and not worry about it
Awesome list thank you! Really appreciate the Aussie sunscreen section as a NZer under the stupid ozone hole. I totally agree with Omar re: those plastic tops on the pump sunscreens haha - my LRP one comes off even in a makeup bag that is barely getting jostled around, so much so that I just carry them in a ziplock bag inside my bag now. So annoying! They just need to make it clip a little firmer.
I finally found a sunscreen i reliably wear everyday in the US! My wishlists were affordable price, at least 300ml, no whitecast, and non greasy formula. Even heavier lotions like Nivea conversely make my skin feel drier. Tldr its the spf 50 Scininc lotion from Korea. Not sure if thats the same manufacturer as the other Korean spfs mentioned.
Can you make a video on why sunscreen sizes are so small even in Europe and some recommendations for LARGE bottles? I feel like nobody talks about this!
Love this video. Who knew your channel could get even better?! Omar is a delightful addition. Hopefully he can make occasional future appearances - as someone who just returned from a trip to find an exploded sunscreen in my toiletries kit, I’d enjoy a supercut of his reactions to poorly designed packaging.
Okay, but when I was in Italy a few weeks ago, I bought the Anthelios Fluid whichever, and the cap definitely came off and my Euros and bag lining were nice and SPF-protected after. Even after being super careful, taking off the cap can be kind of gunky. I definitely feel Mr. Labmuffin on his aversion to a bad cap.
I just received your book and am excited to explore it. I have been following you for a while, and you have convinced me that mineral sunscreen is not necessarily superior to "chemical" sunscreens, especially when talking about Australian products. So, I have lately tried a few non-mineral sunscreens, and the main problem is that those with avobenzone or oxybenzone stain my clothes. I have hard water which makes the problem worse when clothes are laundered.
Banana Boat Light as Air is an amazing sunscreen if you don’t have access to non-American sunscreens. I’d honestly use it everyday if it didn’t have fragrance in it! I use it when I’m active and use Korean sunscreens for daily wear.
My skin is combination: Biore acqua rich: Like it but don't love it, not crazy about the alcohol top of list Eucerin: I've used a while ago, wasn't impressed, heavier than I thought UV mune: don't like the alcohol strong scent, too fluid for my liking Evy: hated it, felt sooo sticky and heavy on me Skin1004/Birchlab nice ones to me! Similar to BOJ which I like a lot - I like SPF that feel like moisturisers and have a slight glossy finish. Haruharu: still haven't tried it but already bought it :) Your husband is as lovely as you :)
Fellow Canadians I have a recommendation. The new Biore one that looks like the Japanese one Michelle has but is health Canada approved. It’s $15-20 and I’ve seen it Walmart, Shoppers, Rexall. I have tried just about every available sunscreen in Canada. Most of them break me out, cause congestion over time, cause very intense eye stinging and watering no matter how carefully I apply. My skin leans oily, is prone to congestion and acne, dehydrated, pretty sensitive to artificial fragrance but more so essential oils. It’s lotiony and runny but isn’t completely watery there is a bit of density. The cleaning product lemon scent is there but isn’t crazy strong and does go away. Feels hydrating but ever so slightly greasy, with a little elbow grease and giving it time then rubbing it in more it does feel like it soaks in and dries down 98%. Leaves me like 3/5 on the dew scale but with my dehydration makeup can look dry and I feel like this acts as a nice moisturizing primer without making my makeup’s longevity very much if at all. What makes it special to me is no breakouts or congestion after 3 months of use (I’ve fallen asleep it in and my skin didn’t feel or look gross in the morning). Eye stinging is none to very minimal and I usually do not believe people when they say that. If I’m carful applying it and let it dry down it won’t sting my throughout the day even with sweating. If I apply it slipping or too close to the eye there can be stinging and watering but it is so minimal compared to other sunscreens. When sunscreens burn for me it’s very very uncomfortable but when this does it it’s nothing compared to others I’m looking at you GlowScreen. No irritation or drying even with the high alcohol content. Easily reapplies even over makeup. It is only SPF 30 though 😢 Sorry if this sounds like an incentivize post it definitely is not I am just so excited I finally found an almost perfect sunscreen for me that is cheap and I don’t have to worry about shipping and duties.
Your pained expression as Omar batters the sunscreens... 😅One major question I would love you to address sometime if you wouldn't mind: are 8 hour sunscreens any good, better, or worse than the usual formulas? I live in Ireland and have been using Boots Soltan Once Factor 50 for a few months compared to using Soltan Protect and Moisurize Factor 50 previously. I feel the Once formula is not preventing sunburn as it's predecessor did. Yet the reviews are stellar. Also I feel my skin has aged hugely all of a sudden in those last few months but maybe that's just my age. I would love to have your genius and clear sighted assessment of the situation. Thank you so much. PS I wear Factor 50 religiously and correctly winter and summer because of meds I am on and also because I'm the colour of snow and never tan.
The warning I keep hearing from different sources about long-wearing sunscreens is: you will at some point inadvertently rub some off Maybe that just sounds so plausible to me because yes I will probably do that
Love sunscreen videos! Australian viewer here, thanks for explaining about the restrictions influencers have, no wonder no one is reviewing Au sunscreens 😢 I’ve recently tried Le Tan BB Cream for my overseas trip. I used it on top of the main sunscreen and the tint was sheer but buildable if I wanted more covering.
Daaarrrrn! Your man Omar is a genious sunscreen cap evaluator! I really like the Skin1004 sunscreen and love the pump packaging. BUT. The cap comes off all.the.time in my handbag. So far I haven't had sunscreen leaking into my bag but the cap coming off makes me uncomfortable, like it's only a matter of time.
I wanna try some of these Australian sunscreens, I saw cancer council on yesstyle and was curious. I'll try any non US sunscreen since our technology is so out of date
I would like to mention here the SVR 50 blurring mousse. I have tried most of the "light" or mattifying sunscreens from this list, but my oily and problematic skin still always looked oily/the sunscreen rolled under my fingers. This SVR mousse is a game changer for me. It doesn't try to be light or matte, but rather creates a "velvety" coverage on the skin. So even if I apply a lot of moisturizing products before, this SPF still makes my skin look very nice and natural. It's not a famous or popular brand, but their SPF mousse is simply genius.
Funnily enough I have opposite reasons for loving sunscreens to your husband. I hate hard to open because I need fast and quick in the morning. The skin1004 is my favourite for it ease. So funny how picky we are as consumers for such different reasons 😂
I've just realized that I'm going to need two separate products with opposite packaging attributes. You're both right and I need two, or there will be frustration.
Yes, exactly! We're all different, with different needs. I imagine screw-tops must be very unpopular with busy moms trying to slap sunscreen on squirming kids and babies at the beach!
The point about finding a sunscreen that works for you is SO IMPORTANT! I used to always think of applying sunscreen as an unpleasant necessity, but after some experimentation with different brands I’m realizing that it IS possible to find something I actually like and will actually apply every day! I accepted for years that I just developed more pimples in the summer than other times of year. I had been using La Roche Posay’s Anthelios line for basically my whole life, and never made the connection between the increased acne and the sunscreen because LRP is supposed to be non-comedogenic. Turns out my skin might just hate a specific ingredient in it because when I ran out while on vacation and had to switch to a different brand, the excess pimples suddenly stopped appearing! Too bad my holy grail sunscreen isn’t available where I live, so I’m back on the hunt for something new 😭😭
LOVE the Eucerin! I buy one that is very similar in the USA. My skin tends to ward dry, the climate I live in is very dry, this sunscreen does very well for me under makeup, etc. And in the USA it's very affordable

edit: Supergoop?!! Baby do not pay Int’l shipping for Supergoop?! 🤯 Your introductory remarks on Aussie sunscreen marketing regulations was really insightful. Lol I mostly love how the tldr of your argument here was, “I don’t like it, but chile I guess 🙄.” Because isn’t that a mood.
I appreciate Omar's attention to the packaging. I have had sunscreen explode in my bag several times. Also now toothpaste now they seem to have replaced screw tops with flip tops. Grr. I feel the same about shampoo/ conditioner/ moisturiser packaging, but this is only an issue when traveling and I usually transfer some to a screw-top container. Thanks Omar! 🤣
@@juliealvarado2023 I'm currently trying a different one from my sister and I'm starting to appreciate what I had. This other one I'm trying can really sting when it gets close to my eyes.
I really appreciate you finding work arounds to still give more information about the Australian sunscreens! It's super useful for me in particular as somebody in Australia who doesn't wear sunscreen enough because it feels icky. I also really appreciate your hubby's critiques about the packaging 😂 Preventing baggage explosions is an aspect I wouldn't have even thought about otherwise!
Please do a video on: (a) decanting different larger products into small containers for travel. Such as vitamin c (glass or plastic, which has better efficacy ?). Skincare you travels on a long flight, car trip, bike trip. Also, one on how long after you put on serums (etc) can you wash your face/hands. ie/ should you reapply if you wash your face 30mins, an hours, etc. I know it's a big ask, but I can't find the answers.
Omar is watching this next to me and he's skipping straight to his parts 😂
🤣 can we please have a t-shirt/ merch with "No pile up" on it?
So its fragrance or parfume free sunscreens?
Omar must have had sunscreen explode in a bag of his before!
Every once in a while, I think of your joke about Omar putting La Roche Post sunscreen on his back, and I laugh.
He's so real for that
As a dude who carries a backpack everywhere I 100% understand Omar’s obsession with packaging. Cleaning dried sunscreen out of a backpack is a nightmare.
I agree, I wish more companies could take bags in concideration.
Especially because you're meant to reapply them, so the companies know we are going to travel around with them in our bags\backpacks. Like, what's stopping them to give us a more reliable packaging, my LRP sunscreen always loses the cap around my bag, I'm just lucky it never spilled everywhere.
I agree as someone who commutes with a small backpack. Thankfully I got a travel size sunscreen with a well sealed nozzle too.
I travel with mine in a ziplock bag just for it 😭
Avid hiker here, throw your sunscreen and other liquid-y items in a gallon ziplock bag! Absolute life saver
I find episodes with Omar the most entertaining cause you truly get to see what someone who isn't utterly obsessed with Skincare react and focus to
the timing is…impeccable
bc i've been referencing the 2022 list at the current moment, but now the sunscreen lore has expanded :3
have you tried atomy sunscreen..made by kolmar.
its the only sunscreen i use.
Please keep doing amazing work ❤️
I’m Australian and I definitely want to hear about Aussie sunscreens. For me, they have to 50+ and wear well under makeup.
I second that! 😊
Me too!
@@user-dc9xs6jm5u Olay Complete Defence has a 30+ sunscreen for sensitive skin. You could try that.
Agreed!!! Huge reason I’m such a devout follower of Michelle’s is because it is so hard to find reputable Australian content creators who are willing to talk to an Aussie audience.
I also fell into the Supergoop trap pre-Michelle bc the only sunscreen recs I ever got were from Americans and Europeans :(
your husband's hate on the packaging is hilarious
He wanted to try exploding the Nivea on camera, it was very stressful 😭
HOwever he is making a point though.
I put duct tape over all my lids when I travel and put them in water tight bags 😅
I must admit now I AM curious about how the Nivea would explode🤔
SCAM BOT
it irritates to see "liittlllextra " anymore on the comments. such a useless brand, can't do straightforward advertisement.
I used to live in Australia, and I have access to the sunscreens there I love Cancer Council sunscreens, I trust them when I need heavy-duty sun protection on a beach day. They are also affordable and come in HUGE sizes.
I'm a Cancer Council convert. It's a pain to find companies who will ship it to the US, but it's soooo worth it!
@@JillKnappDo you know of any websites that ship to the USA?
My sunscreen wishlist:
- Sunscreens that are matte AND leave no white cast. The venn diagram of sunscreens that are adequately mattifying and leave no white cast AND don't pill (like the Eucerin one for me) is 3 circles separated by a kilometre each. 😢
- Better reapplication-friendly, especially on the go.
@@dsarah60 Hi! Thanks. I have never heard of it before, but looks promising. Hope it is easily available where I live.
For the summer, my favourite one is Garnier
PureActive BHA + Niacinamide Daily UV Fluid SPF50+ 40 ml. Its quite matte for the first application by hand and even matter when reapplied with a powder puff!
Love the addition of the husband! I hope you can continue to find ways to navigate the laws surrounding sunscreen in order to do right by your viewers (in all ways). Good job as always!
I really like hearing Omar's opinion. Everyone has different priorities and his experience is relatable. Thanks!
Do you use it on your face or just body?
The great thing about Australian sunscreens are cost per value, you get high trustable protection in a good amount that’s very budget friendly, but because of the shipment they become pricey overseas Australia. I like a lot of Korean sunscreens, but they all come in only 50ml and they are used up pretty quickly. I wish they were more range of affordable sunscreens everywhere and begging Australia to ship and share their sunscreens more
Global shipping is crazy right now! Like, all of it.
Whenever I have friends visiting Australia’s from America or Europe I always recommend they leave some space in their suitcase to take home some of our sunscreen.
So amused by your husband’s enthusiasm about packaging and potential for bag explosions. Thanks for the updated list!
Yes Omar to the packaging critique! You are so right about the need to prevent leaks!
Does the Eucerin one pill on you? It always does on me, not a crazy amount but still noticable.
@@shiningyoonieno it doesn‘t, only when I use BPO gel. But I don‘t use makeup on daily basis so I don‘t know how it would sit under foundation😅
We are here, just outnumbered by the global majority :’)
I currently use the Hamilton sunscreen for how affordable it is and do also struggle with bottles exploding on me so I can totally relate to Omar :’)
This video came at the perfect time as I’m just about to restock sunscreen, really really appreciate your work Michelle thank you!!!
Love the early upload on Nebula! So happy you joined. The Biore sunscreens always hit it out of the park as a reliable sunscreen for most situations.
Me too, I love pump tubes! On the bright side he usually doesn't use up my favourite sunscreens 😂
Few things in life get me happier than seeing this channel updated with a new video… and a new sunscreen one too? Seems like Christmas came early 😍
Thank you for finding ways to talk about Aussie sunscreens! An Omar appearance is always a treat.
A big plus one for uploading this in the beginning of your winter, so those of us on the other half of the planet get it at a good time.
My sunscreen wishlist would be:
- no avobenzone / butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane (I'm sick of it leaving yellow stains on fabric)
- no homosalate, octisalate / ethylhexyl salicylate / octyl salicylate, butyloctyl salicylate (I hate the smell)
- no particulate UV filters (I have eczema on my face and often get white residue clinging to rough patches)
- no strong fragrance
- no pilling
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any Australian sunscreens currently on the market matching my criteria, but there is a new one in the ARTG database I'm hoping will be in stores soon for me to try. Maybe it'll be the one?
Don't you have garnier super uv fluid sensitive overthere?
@@su361 nope, Michelle bought that one in the UK. It doesn't meet my criteria anyway because it has both octisalate and avobenzone.
What about Riemann's P20 Sensitive, either 200ml or 50ml?? Do you have that over there?
They have one for people with sun allergy also at SPF 100+
It is rather expensive, but it does help with my allergy on top of not burning as fast as I normally would.
Thanks! ❤️
Love how much care you put in your video's, and how you take the time to explain things. Thanks also to your husband!
You are so professional. Your research is admiral. And... your husband's candidness is hilarious. You two are such a cute pair.
Careful, I got badly burnt while using this sunscreen...
@emilyteacher5906 I'm sorry to hear that and hope you used an aftersun an don't have any lasting damage :)
A new Lab Muffin!!! ❤❤❤
As a fellow Australian I thank you for doing some recommendations for our sunscreens, I am always looking for different brands to try.
@@anamandic4540 Yeahhh great point, humidity isn't a problem for me for most of the year even though I live near the seaside.
My skin can only tolerate mineral so I’m excited for that video!!
I have a thing about products potentially exploding in my bags too. Omar is on the money! Thank you, this is awesome. Here after watching Hannah.
I’ve been wanting to try this but wondering how I can get it in the states 😢
Been curious about this too but the two earlier tries with UV-mune has left my skin red and burning :( So very hesitant to invest incase I cannot wear this one either. They're not that cheap in Europe either.
I hog LRP sunscreens that aren't tinted or sprays. I wish Toleriane comes in a higher spf than 30 in my place I use that heavily during cold weather in my place.
I love that you used the swiss cheese model of layers - we looked at that type of model in regards to fatigue and risk management while I was studying the Psychophysiology of Sleep.
that is the cutest cupcake stand at your wedding and haha of course you gave sunscreen as wedding favors, I would love that!
I actually prefer Korean sunscreens for the cosmetic elegance but yeah thank you for not forgetting your Aussie audience 💖 So funny how much Omar cares about the exploding potential but he's actually so real for that
Thanks for making this! I love Omar’s reviews!
Thanks for the extra effort for your aussie viewers. Much appreciated.
You'll often find me staring mindlessly at the shelves filled with an assortment of oversees sunscreens at my local Chemist Warehouse so please Michelle, this Australian would really appreciate you keep talking about Australian sunscreens.
I second this
I wholeheartedly agree with Omar, we have to reapply SPF thoughtout the day and it's bloody annoying having explosions. I have the new La Roche-Posay Athelios UVMUNE 400 Kids version and the new cap is smaller than the top of a tictac box , it's inevitably going to explode on me soon and for a more costly SPF it's packaging needs to be changed. I need an SPF that I can throw in my picnic bag, beach bag etc and not worry about it
thanks for doing a fantastic job of being a great science communicator
Hello! I always wondered if chlorine in pads or other feminine products is actually bad for you, a video on feminine products would be so helpful!
My skin is combination:
Biore acqua rich: Like it but don't love it, not crazy about the alcohol top of list
Eucerin: I've used a while ago, wasn't impressed, heavier than I thought
UV mune: don't like the alcohol strong scent, too fluid for my liking
Evy: hated it, felt sooo sticky and heavy on me
Skin1004/Birchlab nice ones to me! Similar to BOJ which I like a lot - I like SPF that feel like moisturisers and have a slight glossy finish.
Haruharu: still haven't tried it but already bought it :)
Your husband is as lovely as you :)
BABE WAKE UP NEW LAB MUFFIN SUNSCREEN VIDEO DROPPED
For me it was: babe go to sleep so I can watch the new sunscreen video in peace
PLEASE make a video on self tanners and which ones are safe. I don’t want to damage my skin but I want to be darker
Ummmm I love watching you and Omar’s dynamic. I feel a kindred spirit towards you because my husband is 100% this way too.
Good question. Would be interested to hear the answer to this too.
The warning I keep hearing from different sources about long-wearing sunscreens is: you will at some point inadvertently rub some off
Maybe that just sounds so plausible to me because yes I will probably do that
Looking forward to the video about mineral sunscreens. A video about so called pregnancy safe sunscreens would also be amazing!🌞
Love sunscreen videos! Australian viewer here, thanks for explaining about the restrictions influencers have, no wonder no one is reviewing Au sunscreens 😢
I’ve recently tried Le Tan BB Cream for my overseas trip.
So happy to see you review sunscreen that I can easily buy in the UK, Thank you 🙂
Uv mune its the best sunscreens we have too combat aging. PERIOD
This is true!!! Just goes to show that careful reviews are always good, whether or not they are positive for the reviewer.
Too bad my holy grail sunscreen isn’t available where I live, so I’m back on the hunt for something new 😭😭
Preordered the book as soon as you mentioned it. Can't wait. I might go ham and order the hardcover also.
LOVE the Eucerin! I buy one that is very similar in the USA. My skin tends to ward dry, the climate I live in is very dry, this sunscreen does very well for me under makeup, etc. And in the USA it's very affordable
Hello everyoneeeee :D YAY new sunscreen video!🤗
Sunscreens you should try:
-Isdin eryfotona actinica
-Coola Mineral sunscreen
-SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 mineral sunscreen
And what I currently use:
-ROVECTIN - Skin Essentials Aqua Soothing UV Protector SPF 50+ PA++++
edit: Supergoop?!! Baby do not pay Int’l shipping for Supergoop?! 🤯
Your introductory remarks on Aussie sunscreen marketing regulations was really insightful.
I use Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun SPF 50. Very lightweight. Hoping to move to something thicker
It is the only one that doesn’t bother my eyes.
I've tried a lot and it's still my favourite.
*clicks furiously and joyfully on video*
I've been waiting for this!!!! Love these!!
Love your content!!
