Tony Hadley still sounds incredible. I saw him live a few years ago and I was amazed by his stage presence! Afterwards he signed autographs and did photos. I was the last in line but he stayed to the end and so kind to everyone.

Oh, this was basically the soundtrack to EVERY awkward 1980s and 1990s young-teen school dance.
Of course it took about 5 minutes for HIM to ask HER to dance, and another 5 minutes for HER to check with friends to approve, and by then the song was over.
BUT this was usually followed up with Prince's "Little Red Corvette" which was enough of a mix between fast dancing and slow dancing to be acceptable by the chaperones.

A total of fve different films made use of the song “True” by Spandau Balllet. These include “The Wedding Singer” in 1998; “Charlie's Angels” in 2000; “Pixels” in 2015; and “Not Another Teen Movie” . The winner, however, has to be “Sixteen Candles” in 1984 where “True” was played in one scene for one full minute.

The other thing that might make this sound familiar to you is that the intro keyboard "boop-boop" has been sampled to death. I understand why people recommended 'True', but I really, REALLY think you should make it three Spandau Ballet tracks in a row and finish with 'Through The Barricades': read up the background to the song and it'll hit you in all the feels.
If you like Spandau Ballet you'll probably also like ABC, a similarly 'classy' band from the same era. Check out 'The Look of Love' (hilarious official video BTW) or 'All Of My Heart'. When I was a teenager, an instrumental version of The Look Of Love was the theme tune to a radio show that played some seriously good tunes on a Saturday night: good memories... 🙂

I think "True" is about Tony Hadley (the singer) trying to confess his love to a girl by letter -- not in person, and still unable to do it. All he knows to be TRUE is how much he loves her. Once I figured that out, all the lyrics made sense to me.
Fun fact: I was 14 when this song came out, and it didn't take a year until I found myself in just the same situation as Tony.
