PM Dawn sampled this in their song/video "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss." A side note is that the lead singer of Spandau Ballet, Tony Hadley, appeared at the end of their video.
Reminds me of John Hughes films... Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink....etc. Great reaction! PM Dawn's sample in Set Adrift on Memory Bliss brings this song out of the 80s into the 90's.
I bought "Through The Barricades" on 12 inch vinyl single ,by Spandau Ballet, and it is one of my favourite tracks ever. I hope one day you will play it.
This is one of the most gorgeous songs to come out of the 80s. Watching reactions on RUclips, I am reminded of just how much the music I grew up with was infused with jazz. Such a great decade!
Spandau like Span-dow Ballet like a Ballerina. If you put this song on a any party, even today, no matter the type of party. Folks will start slowdancing and getting close on the dancfloor. No cap. Also I like that bro didn't go crazy on the Sax solo, but he still went crazy on the sax solo. Fire edits too
When I was young and first heard the song thought it was spandue ballet for the longest until i was told it was pronounced the way you saying it kinda thou sometimes to this day say span due but i know its spandau like dow ballet
Happy that you've read the comments section and thus hearing & appreciating how good British artists were in the 80s. They really killed it! 🔥 Next up Spandau Ballet - Gold ?? One of the most powerful motivating songs around 👌💪
@@danielwalker1538 love that movie def one you can watch again and again.alexis arquette's boy george, billy idol's cameo and the rapping gran.fab soundtrack
Spandau ballet!!! 🙂 This song was in every friend's party to dance alone with your girl in the dark.....huhuuuu Great reaction!! So natural. Best regards from Chile!
The band name is based on a district of Berlin/Germany. Spandau is located in the west of Berlin. You can read the reasons for the name at Wikipedia. Greetings from Berlin.
Absolutely agree Player stays at number 1. Don't get me wrong I love Spandau Ballet and you still have a couple of hit tunes of theirs to discover .......enjoy the ride!
One of those 80's songs that whether I like the song or not, I find myself singing along when I hear it, lol. Although I like the song more now than I did then :)
*One of the foundational songs of the Second British Invasion of the early-mid 1980s, with British acts having unprecedented success in the US charts in the 80s (even more success than the first wave in the 60s.)*
Great Reaction! You two are really hitting the mark lately with these 🔥 fire tracks. So glad you liked this. It was MY song in my early 20s during the early 1980s.
As usual great reaction guys. You might want to listen to another song of theirs entitled "Through the Barricades". It's about the love of two people from different sides of the devide in Northern Ireland and is absolutely brilliant. Take care. Best wishes from the UK.
Yeah this was sampled many times by American hip hop artists in the 2000s. UK pop was killing it in the 80s this was one of them. This song is very sultry, sexy, you get drawn in pretty easily. You understand why this was sampled many times because it is just a lit song. I used to listen to this on repeat in my 20s back in the 90s eventhough it was a decade old already. It's nice to see your generation getting in on it too. 🙏
Omg when I was 11 when this came out on MTV. It was played like 4 times an hour. You guys have got to listen to the group Ambrosia. They have 3 of the smoothest songs ever also. Biggest part of me,How much I feel, You’re the only woman.
When I drove Tony Kanal from No Doubt, this song came on the radio, and he was raving about Spandau Ballet. Apparently he knows them personally. I think he said they played with No Doubt before.
The band got their name from Spandau Prison in Berlin. Supposedly, there were many hangings there, in which the victims would twitch and jump at the end of a rope...hence, doing the "Spandau Ballet."
Slightly off piste but the two brothers in this band - Gary and Martin Kemp, are also actors, and one of their most popular films are them playing twins Ronnie and Reggie Kray, two 1950’s /60’s British gangsters from East London... well worth a watch.
Smooth, check out the band Air, album Moon Safari Air, Moon Safari...thats what they sound like. Songs: All I Need or You Make It Easy. Album versions not music videos. Female vocals or peep their most recent concert on RUclips. Formed in 2000, electronic sound but they're a band with instruments
You can tell when Chris likes a track. That smile is priceless. (Not simpin... just sayin.) Every reaction I anticipate that smile. It's so cool that you guys are finding and enjoying the music I grew up with. From your personality, Recklezz, I wouldn't think this type of music would appeal to you. But your openess to experience it and give it a chance is really amazing. Baby Come Back is one of my all time favorites and it was so awesome that you guys liked that one. Could I vote for you to try Ambrosia? Next to Player they are one of my most favorite bands. Their track "Biggest Part of Me" is right there at the top of my all time favorites list. I really enjoy your reactions guys. Thank you for your channel.
It's always a huge debate here in England about which decade we (The Uk) produced the best music - WAS IT THE 1960'S (Beatles and Rolling stones, etc ) or was it the 1980s (CULTURE CLUB, THE POLICE, DURAN DURAN, ETC)? I go for the 1980s as the 1980s weren't just devoted to Rock and Pop music. IN the 1980s the Uk had that and much more...
You're hilarious with your joke about this song playing in a car with cigarette smoke. This song is part of the 80s teenage coming of age John Hughes directed movie soundtrack for Sixteen Candles. React to their song Gold please.
There are few covers that alot of ppl dont know such as we are gold by coconut water and also a korean version by moon hyuna and eeu erine called doong doong if im not mistaken..this true tone is legendary
Spandau Ballet is pronounced like it was on your phone. React to SB's "GOLD" - it is an awesome video and sounds (and the plot) like it would be a theme song for a James Bond movie..
Yeah, that Player song is wonderful. So readily identifiable with the mid 70's, everyone that grew up in that decade would associate that song with their youth (among many others of course).
guys...odd name for a band....spandau was a nazi prison camp, the spandau ballet is the dance you did at the end of the hangmans noose when they hung you there, which they did thousands of.
Music in 80’s was so varied, made with so much talent in all the genres, that it blows away everything made today.
PURE FACTS!!!
The coldness in this woman's reaction is incredible. If this song hasn't moved her then she isn't moved by anything. She has no soul. She is dead. 😕
She realizes she has made the wrong decision in life during her watch of this video.
PM Dawn sampled this in their song/video "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss." A side note is that the lead singer of Spandau Ballet, Tony Hadley, appeared at the end of their video.
That was actually my first experience with this song, through P.M. Dawn. Loved that song back in the day.
@@kinjiru731 yeah I think both songs are really great 🙂👍💝🎵🎶
Backstreet Boys sampled the piano part for I Want It That Way
I would definitely suggest listening to PM Dawn song!
Tony with his Mullet hairstyle then.
This is the kind of song which never gets old.
Reminds me of John Hughes films... Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink....etc. Great reaction! PM Dawn's sample in Set Adrift on Memory Bliss brings this song out of the 80s into the 90's.
Together with Crowded House, Spandau Ballet is still one of my favorite groups from the '80's. Still great to lissen.
I always thought his voice was just spectacular.
Yo girl real cold she show no emotion 😂
This song is been sampled so many times … iconic song of the 80’s
I bought "Through The Barricades" on 12 inch vinyl single ,by Spandau Ballet, and it is one of my favourite tracks ever. I hope one day you will play it.
One of my favourite songs too! Simply beautiful....
This is one of the most gorgeous songs to come out of the 80s. Watching reactions on RUclips, I am reminded of just how much the music I grew up with was infused with jazz. Such a great decade!
The Marvin he talks about in the song is Marvin Gaye.
"Sara Smile" was pretty dang smooth - I'd say it's in the Top 3 of your best reactions to a smooth song.
Great song
I saw them live in the 80s and Tony’s voice was exactly the same live on stage …amazing! Try “Gold” from Spandau Ballet next!
80s Music is the best!
I love when you use the word "buttery".
Officially a signature Rico adjective! It's so perfect - great description!
React to Spandau Ballet - Gold. Classic.
Spandau like Span-dow
Ballet like a Ballerina. If you put this song on a any party, even today, no matter the type of party. Folks will start slowdancing and getting close on the dancfloor. No cap. Also I like that bro didn't go crazy on the Sax solo, but he still went crazy on the sax solo. Fire edits too

This is one of my all time favourite songs, it just has a great vibe
Such a chill song but their singer and sax player have such a BIG sound that keeps you hooked.
Total classic.
Happy that you've read the comments section and thus hearing & appreciating how good British artists were in the 80s. They really killed it! 🔥
Next up Spandau Ballet - Gold ??
One of the most powerful motivating songs around 👌💪
I absolutely love Spandau Ballet's song Gold.

Spandau ballet!!! 🙂
This song was in every friend's party to dance alone with your girl in the dark.....huhuuuu

Please, listen to Lever 42, Pet Shop Boys and more Hall & Oates 🙂
As you liked SB, check out ABC and their hits - The Look of Love, When Smokey Sings or Poison Arrow. Very similar vibe - Smoooooooth!
"Dancing to Marvin all night long," Think they did their influences justice? Pretty slick, nicely done, imo.
the song says Listening to Marvin, not dancing
Now you have to react to the PM Dawn cover of this song “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” which is 🔥
The band name is based on a district of Berlin/Germany. Spandau is located in the west of Berlin. You can read the reasons for the name at Wikipedia. Greetings from Berlin.
You guys got that right player #1
Through the barricades by them is an incredible song. You guys would love it!!
This ballad was quite a departure from where Spandau started out. They did mature as songwriters and performed at live aid, fair play
This song was also sampled by Lloyd in his song called "you"
*One of the foundational songs of the Second British Invasion of the early-mid 1980s, with British acts having unprecedented success in the US charts in the 80s (even more success than the first wave in the 60s.)*
If you haven't already did this, group/band, from the 70's, "Exhile" has a song called, "kiss you all over".
You should check that out.
Great Reaction! You two are really hitting the mark lately with these 🔥 fire tracks. So glad you liked this. It was MY song in my early 20s during the early 1980s.

Now listen to “Set Adrift On Memory Bliss” a 1991 hit for PM Dawn, who sampled this. Great tune as well.
Player "Baby Come Back" will ALWAYS be number one :)

Awesome English group in the 80s
When I drove Tony Kanal from No Doubt, this song came on the radio, and he was raving about Spandau Ballet. Apparently he knows them personally. I think he said they played with No Doubt before.
I see people already mentioned PM Dawn, but Queen Pen also sampled this with Chico Debarge called 'it's true'.
Thi was the best of the 80s i was inmy 20s in the 80s from the uk
I love that song and his voice is beautiful ❤️
What sweet girl and adorable girl😊🇮🇪
What an outstanding voice he has.
The smoothest groove is "ONE ON ONE" HALL & Oates

I just started following you and I'm so glad I did... I've been a DJ since 1981 and so love how you appreciate all music... thank you...
Sixteen Candles dance scene lol ... and this song is pretty much the '80s in a nutshell.
It's The Krays.
Growing up in the 80s… I thought the chorus was saying “ I know there’s.. Virrrrr-gins true”
Tony Hadley is still performing with his own band,no longer with spandau ballet
Yeah us old heads definitely loved this song. I never broke out a cigarette though. 🤣 This song was a huge hit and yes has been sampled quite a lot.
AT ONE POINT I HEAR THE RIFF "AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A LOVE THING"
Try 10cc I'm not in love..Thanks R D W.or Eric Clapton.. Wonderful Tonight
This song holds the distinction of being the most sampled song.
I would of thought Mtume "Juicy Fruit".
Man that bass line compliments the vocals so beautifully
Try Player's " This Time I'm Ready For Love " . This one might top " Baby Come Back "
ha ha ha haaaaa ha .... probably everybody on the planet can sing along to this.
Lotta babies were (and still are) made to this song.
Listen to "Gold" Greetings from Germany...

Check out PM Dawn Set Adrift on Memory Bliss
It’s great seeing a young buck appreciating these old hits. Nice job guys 👍
I do think it's funny how most rappers claim they don't like many other genres of music but almost every one of them samples older songs like this
PM DAWN, Young Loyd and Lil Wayne sampled this that's probably what the song sounds familiar great reaction 👍🏾
80’s Prom song. I lived this era in HS.
This was the song my wife and I danced to at our wedding....in 2013.
Me, age 39 = "old head" LMAO
Ballet as in the ballerina style of dance
Last song to be played at many a disco in the 80s. Grab a girl and slow dance.
Lloyd ft lil Wayne singing "You" sample this a little bit towards the end of the song.

Ohhhh
Just saw you fellas critiquing this masterpiece
Well done
