I can't begin to tell you how much I miss the 80's. The music, the colors, the optimism. What happened?
That's one of the best comments/questions I've ever read 👍
Boomers became entitled and ruined everything
Know what you mean. Couldn’t agree more. I was 10 when the 80s started and 20 when they ended. It was a simpler time. The height of technology back then were Sony Walkmans, video recorders and microwave ovens. I’m celebrating 40 years as a Spandau fan this year and I listen to them more now than I did back in the 80s.
How right you are. I really miss those times
the healthy minds!
You're humming SET ADRIFT ON MEMORY BLISS by PM DAWN, and YES that song samples this one!!!! You got it right!
Yup, the lyric she's trying to remember is "Baby you send me... set adrift on memory bliss of you".
Tony Hadley, the lead singer for Spandau Ballet, even appeared in PM Dawn's video.
This is one of those perfect songs. Even if you don't like this genre chances are you still like the song ❤️
I love this song and Spandau Ballet! They are a premier eighties New Wave band! Right up there with my favorite band, Duran Duran! That’s a high compliment! They are so sensual and soulful! Check out their hits, “Gold” and “Only When You Leave”! The song your thinking of is “ Set Adrift On Memory Bliss” by PM Dawn! Which sampled this song in it! Tony Hadley, Spandau’s lead singer, even made an appearance in PM Dawn’s music video!❤❤
I really hope someone requests 'Gold' by these guys soon, if you liked this, that will blow your socks off, lol. ❤
Yup yup 😊
My favourite of theirs does not get mentioned, Lifeline, plus their first uk hit , To Cut a Long Story Short
LOL You are the first reactor that I'lve seen that picked up on the line "listenin' to Marvin..." and yeah Marvin Gaye is most likely who he was referring to, good catch! 😉
Check out ABC's "Be Near Me" "When Smokey Sings" "How to be a Zillionaire" "Poison Arrow" "Look of love"
This song was used in John Hughes' 80's teen classic movie "Sixteen Candles" starring Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall. The song is played at a high school dance in the film. I highly recommend this film for your movie channel Kemi along with "Pretty In Pink" and "The Breakfast Club" (all three star Molly Ringwald).
Besides PM Dawn sampling this song a version of it is also done by Steve Buscemi's character at the end of The Wedding Singer (it's a funny version).
❤️❤️ and their "GOLD" is amazing too🥰🥰.
Yes!😊
Set Adrift On Memory Bliss by PM Dawn, and they sampled this song. 🥰
One of their early UK hits was "Chant No. 1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On)". An upbeat, very danceable song!!
P.M. Dawn sampled this song in their song "Set A Drift On Memory Bliss"
You have a good ear. The song you were thinking of is Set Adrift on Memory Bliss by PM Dawn. They sampled True in the song and the lead singer from Spandau Ballet makes a cameo at the end of PM Dawn’s music video.
YES!!! This never gets old it gets better.
Love this song!
The finest dressed Band of the 80's
Gary Kemp was in a platonic relationship with a singer at the time and ended up writing a song to her.
The song was about trying to write a song but being scared about being too honest and them finding out that it was about them," he explained. "So, you know, ‘Why do I find it hard to write the next line? When I want the truth to be said’ but it’s because you’re a bit shy of it.”
You are the first person that commented on his power of voice, their influence of Marvin Gaye and the movement of the song. This band was huge in the 80's and continues to be heard in movies such as the "Wedding Singer, etal. Glad you enjoyed it!
I can remember slow dancing to this song back in middle and high school. Such great memories.
Big prom song back in the day.
The song you're referring to is Set Adrift on Memory Bliss, by PM Dawn. That song sampled this one.
PM Dawn sampled this for "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss".
Spandau Ballet #4 USA, #1 UK, #14 France ( My country )
This song was perfect
This is one of those song that never gets old.
BTW, if you have ever heard of the rap group P.M. Dawn, they were the group that sampled this song for their track "Set Adrift on Memories Bliss".
You probably recognized this song from the movie "The wedding singer", in which you did a reaction to a while back!! It is utterly beautiful, utterly timeless!!!
40 years later and he still sings like this ❤
"Through the barricades" in my opinion their absolutely best song.
Amen to that! I hope she can review it.
You must hear GOLD
It is PM Dawn, and the lead singer of Spandau Ballet is in the last few seconds of their video.
Another classic song
PM Dawn - Set adrift a memory bliss
P.M. Dawn..Set a drift on memory bliss...
The source of their name is extremely dark.
Spandau is the prison where the Allies hanged Nazi War Criminals.
The Spandau Ballet was the twitching that the executed did after falling through the trap door.
Spandau is a district of Berlin
Great band dark name😞
Oh how I miss you Kemi. A great reaction. Nobody has ever recorded this before. I love this song. Thanks my hunnie.
This song really takes me back to the year it was released. HUGE hit... played on the airways over and over. Great reaction as always.
Hello my Honey K.S.O.! The song you're thinking of is (Set Adrift On Memory Bliss) 1991 by P.M. Dawn from the Movie sound track "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World"2012...If you get a chance check out P.M. Dawn's hit single "I'd Die Without You" from the (Boomerang Sound Track)1992... Fantastic Album!!! Well my Dear you take care and stay safe!
it's been played in movie and commercials
A quintessential 80's tune, no auto tune, just what looks like brand new instruments, all are impeccably dressed, look at those suits, especially the lead singers suit is awesome IMO, and would still in 2023 look as striking as it did in 1983. These guys radiated class as well as not using any auto tune or other artificial musical enhancement, just pure talent. I miss music like this from the 80's, the change from the 70's was so drastic that it actually show's that when you listen closely how good and different the melody
and flow in music like "True" is. It makes me remember the feelings I had when I first heard this back in 1983, it also shows, to me at least, that any really great songs will never lose its luster and how this, even 40 years later, still is as soul stirring and powerful when compared to the absolutely horrible garbage 90% of today's music is.
The video’s not the most exciting but the song is a classic. Tony’s velvet vocal, the uh huh huh huh huh chant and the sax solo make it. A popular slow dance at the end of the night.
Love your colourful outfit too 😊 x
I think my favorite song from Spamdau is 'Through the Barricades'. It really was a song that reflected kife during the troubles that existed in N Ireland in the 1980s (and before) and really was very positive.
The song gives me all the feels… it did back in the day and it still does now. 🥰🥰🥰 The song was PM Dawn’s “set a drift on memory bliss” another one of my jams when i was in High school. Loved that song because this was sampled in it.
I love the days when bands dressed like this. Super Smooth
Happy days...
You're thinking of "Set Adrift On Memory Bliss" by PM Dawn who sampled this tune in 1991, eight years after "True" by Spandau Ballet 🙂
Hi Kemi- The song you’re referring to is “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” by PM Dawn- 💝🙂✨
This was an awesome slow dance song in high school. It was on the radio a lot back then too. Damn l miss the 80's.
The same producers also worked with Imagination and early Bananarama.
pure magic indeed!
Pm dawn, set a drift on memory bliss.!
Very nice song ❤️🔝👍
I ❤️ 80's - 90's
Tony Hadley, the lead singer of Spandau Ballet, actually appeared in the video for PM Dawn's Set Adrift On Memory Bliss.
They made some great records.....and still do. They have a fantastic back catalogue.
Excellent reaction!!! I was waiting for you to react to this one.
Hi, the group was lloyd, a nice R&B that they sampled, this version is much more elegant
Need to check out GOLD SPANDAU BALLET
I always thought that the only thing in life that is True is now in time. The past relies on memories that can be influenced as time goes by so you begin to wonder how accurate they are.
Classic school disco song from the 80's. Back in the days when you didn't think "WTF is he on about?" with Gary kemp's lyrics.
hey k.s.o. you always play good music
React to a few of Liliac's songs....They are Independent, LOVE reactors, no need to pause, or blur...nor will you ever get blocked... Song from 2022 Concert tour..shot LIVE at several shows...and combined into "Not Afraid" (Extended version) They are a 5pc Family band...2 sisters, 3 brothers...ages from 25 down to 15..16 yr old plays the 5 string bass like he was born with it....Melodia just turned 21, and has also sang with Vinnie Apice's Sabbath Knights.....Sam is the oldest, plays guitar, and back-up singing.....and does the video editing......their Father is the Producer.....check them out, sometime....and, IF you would like to hear a Ballad...try Sail Away.....(Think Grand Piano on the Beach..)
Ok. Here's what it means.... He finds it hard to write the next line because he fears people will know it's about them.
This is a song about trying to write a song.
I think this was played in movie pretty in pink
And You are correct!
Hello Kemi would please react to the Jackson five looking through the window. They did on the old Sonny and Cher show . Great song
Your one of a very few that caught the Marvin Gaye reference.
Pm Dawn, set a drift on memory bliss, something like that?
Are you repeating videos?? Anyway when I was younger I used to get mistaken for the lead singer Tony Hadley used to get double take all the time, years later I met him in person in a state of largeness lol and there's me looking at thinking oh I still look like him lolol
Yes, You are right about Her repeating this Video. I know this because I remember seeing this Video the first time and hitting the 'Like' Button from other Commentors here, and those 'Likes' are still highlighted here marked in Black.
BLISS OF MEMORY..
All these big hits get ripped for rap .. because they have the "hook"
Love the reactions, what happened to your reaction to Billy Idol song rebel yell? i saw on another video you said you reacted to it but i can't find it on your channel!
yes part of this song was used by another artist
A nerve pill. Like Xanax
Another great band that broke up over money.
Love this song!
