GOLD is literally Gold and a tremendously fun take on James Bond 🙂
Absolutely adore this song. Always have.
This was all over MTV back in the day.
the look on your face when the sax kicked in was awesome!!
“True” Was used in several movies. “The Wedding Singer” “Charlie's Angels” “Sixteen Candles” & a few others.
The keyboard player was in the movie The Bodyguard. He played Whitney's manager.
The 80s at its finest and one of my favorite songs from the greatest decade.
"through the barricades" please, it's the MASTERPIECE of Spandau Ballet
This is my favorite SB song.
@@ramonjr.deluna9584 🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍 i would like many reactions but desperatly Always the same songs suggested everywhere for every singers and every bands 😢
Love me some Spandau Ballet!
Gold is another one of their hits. Tony Hadley has an amazing voice.
Gold is a amazing song! I hope Salvo reacts to that video.
Absolutely. Gold is a must. Only when you leave should also be on the list.
Absolutely!
Yes! Gold is golden!
Yes, I think Gold is even more impressive in showing what Tony can really do with his voice.
Can't help thinking about "The wedding singer" every time I hear this song now 😂✌️
Fun fact, the clothing worn here was designed by Sade who had several hits in the 80's. She was a fashion designer before becoming hit recording artist.
That's cool! I didn't know that.
Sade (pronounced ShaDay) needs a reaction too. 🙂
A great singer.
Oh Sade DEFINITELY needs to be reacted to, Salvog! 😃 "Is It a Crime" is my dav of hers. No one sounds like Sade. Definition of gorgeous in every sense of the word.
@@reneeroxanneabeln2202 Smooth Operator is her big hit.
They performed this song 🎶 during LIVE AID. It’s also been in several movies, from Brat Pack ones to Adam Sandlers movie 🎥 The Wedding Singer
This was THE prom song of the '80s. Also try their "Only When You Leave."
One of My best from 80 , and all 80 is the best song ever .
Still a great song 40 years later.
I love, love, love this song! From the 80’s!
so many memories of all those years ago when thing were exciting and fun. Great band, BRILLIANT song !!
I saw them live Twice, once in 1986 and once in 2008 still great!
You said it! "Very sexy" song! Sax solo is something else.. Song came out when I was 15 yrs old...LOVE IT!
This was by far the best slow dance when I was out clubbing in the 80s. I'm 60 now and still get a special feeling when this plays. Glad you decided to react to this one.
The Spandau Ballet were very successful in Italy and Tony Hadley is still a guest on various television programs today. "Gold" is also a beautiful song. I love 80's music! 🥰
He was in the movie The Bodyguard
Yes. How about Barricade?
I took a skip order from him over the phone. Mr. Anthony Hadley 😆
this song is so 80's 👏👏
Possibly the most 80’s pop song of them all a true classic.
Love them. They came out when I was in high school in the 80s. Huge hit! Their hit Gold too
In the 80s, I was fortunate enough to have experienced them live in concert.
Hey Mr G "Through the barricades' is a must hear by Spandau Ballet
Love this one, and also "Gold", "Through the barricades", "Fight for ourselves" , "To cut a long story short" and so many others ...
Spandau Ballet is one of my all-time favorite bands. I love this song. It always hits me in the feels. Tony Hadley's voice is just amazing.
Please stop using the phrase, "hits me in the feels." It's like fingernails on a blackboard to me.
@@larryclemens 😬
Through the Barricades is my absolute favorite.
This was the song played in all high school proms in the '80s. Even shown in movies, too.
Music from my 20’s!!!!! Wow! We still danced slow music back then. Good memories!!!!! 🎶♥️✌️And you said what I always say about this song: It’s VERY sexy!!!!!! 🔥
Adding a vote for Modern English "I Melt With You." ❤
Yes! I Melt with You is fantastic!
Please do Duran Duran. They changed history, honestly. Save a Prayer, The Reflex, Notorious, Wild Boys, A View to a Kill, Ordinary World, Come Undone. A string of massive hits. They were extraordinarily special, they were pioneers in video, and in the fusion of disco and punk, they have continued for 40+ years, and every album is radically different than the last. They sell out stadiums all over the world to this day. What more do I have to add!
Yessss!!!!!!!!
Duran Duran "Rio", "Save a Prayer" and "Ordinary World" are my favorite ❤❤❤
Duran Duran!! Yes!!
Also do Split Enz and Crowded House - similar vibe, better lyrics imo 💐
And give a whirl to some of the Lost Gems like Toni Basil “Hey Mickey.” 😊
To hear an great example of Blue Eyed Soul please listen to Paul Young and " Wherever I Lay My Hat"
Back in the 80s, over here in The UK, this song was ALWAYS played at the end of the night. The last Waltz, as it were! ❤ love it.
Loved Spandau Ballet.
I saw Tony Hadley live years ago, he was amazing live❤
The two twin brothers in Spandau stared in the movie THE Krays
To cut a long story short is brilliant and there are so many more.
Instinction, Gold & Only when You Leave are bangers too!
If you were a lass with a crush, this was the song that was guaranteed to make you run crying from the gym when your crush danced with someone else. 😂
I had to come back and say, there is no way to explain how exciting this movement was. When Duran Duran broke through with “Planet Earth” the music/clothes/ Dancing in the video was explosive for teens. It started a whole new way of style/fun/individuality through fashion. I can not rave enough how lucky I feel to have been young at this time in music history. Please check out “Planet Earth” it really was the beginning of bringing New Romantic to the main stream ❤❤❤❤
Such a talented group. They made quite a few great songs. Tony Hadley has one of the highest-quality voices from the 80s. ABC and lead singer Martin Fry are right up there too. I put them both on the same pedestal.
Quintessential early 1980’s bomb. This is still played extensively on 80’s retro stations and never gets old ❤
GOLD! Yes. just do GOLD.
This was Massive and One Fine piece of SOPHISTI-POP! And YES you can file this one away in the Make-Out Folder LOL. Btw for New Wave context and Major Synth Action - you want to Hit their edgier New Wave song that brought them to prominence in 1980 - TO CUT A LONG STORY SHORT! You will LUV IT Salvo! :-D
So 80s - so good!
This is one of those 80s songs that is so represenitive of the 1980s. The song was everywhere during the 80s and even now it pops up constantly.
Almost anything by Bryan ferry/Roxy music. Especially (for me anyway) dance away.
So classic eighties - also, give Kurt Maloo a listen with THE CAPTAIN OF HER HEART. The first was a Swiss version but Haug and Maloo (Double) also released a US version, then Kurt Maloo released his 4 minute music video with additional instrumentation and suave visuals, and is the preferred one.
Lovely song …. ❤
My decade was one of the best ..sexy ..rocky ..disco ..😊
How about some Dave Matthers Band --- Don't Drink the Water -Satullite- Crash - Crush- Dave Matthews with Kenny Chesney - I'm Alive Dave Matthews and Santana - just great band
Tony Hadley still performs today! He has an incredible voice!!!❤
Saw him last year in Brisbane,he was amazing
The song is written by Gary Kemp, the guy playing the piano. He wrote some fantastic songs. His brother, Martin, plays guitar in the band. Both of them are also well-known actors. Gary Kemp played Whitney Houston's manager in the movie, The Bodyguard. Have a listen to True or Through The Barricades - you will love them!
And the Krays
@@corvus1374 Seriously, "The Krays" nearly ruined me on Spandau Ballet!! It was a very weird juxtaposition to listen to this song as sung by twin brother murderous thugs!😀
@@corvus1374 I wasn't sure many people would know who the Krays were 😄
Great reaction. Since you loved this one so much you have to react to a synthpop duo from England named "Soft Cell". The song is "Tainted Love" and it will blow you away! Howdy from Texas 🤠
OMG, Tainted Love. 🥰 My cousin and I would drive around with the radio blasting as we sang at the top of our lungs. She had to pull over to the curb one time because, she said, "I can't concentrate on driving with you singing so loud."
Totally agree!
I definitely second the recommendation for 'Tainted Love', but it's gotta be the extended 12-inch edition with 'Where Did Our Love Go'. Simply the smoothest transition going. Smooth. As. Silk. Absolutely flawless.
@@Weyland_Yutani_Corp Wow! The transition was seamless. Love both songs. I wonder what The Supremes would think of it. 😄
Oh man…this song is so gooooood!
Thank you.Really.Thank you.
London had a lot going on beginning in the 60s. Proto punk, garage rock, Pub Rock, Brit Pop, post-Punk. LOTS to discover there. I just did an over hour long playlist of just London pub rockers (pub rock being confined largely to the 70s and early 80s there, at least the well known stuff as it was the beginnings), and that just covered one song from a few of the bands. Joe Strummer of The Clash came from the 101ers who were a pub rock band.
That is why it gets so specific when it comes to music at times. A friend of mine did an hour long play list of just Manchester bands, and it was fire too. We could add to those playlists for hours and not cover all the great stuff.
You're hearing one or two songs or at times one album by a select artist. My advice is to make note of what you like or interests you particularly and explore it more. You have not even touched on Power Pop, New Wave, or Pub Rock and you really should.
“To cut a long story short” is my favorite tune by them. It was the beginning of magic…New Romantic. Just like Duran Duran song “planet Earth” it’s before everyone moved to new wave/pop rock
Saw Spandau Ballet live in the 80s…Tony’s voice live is literally identical to the records, just stunning! ❤
Can't help but think of "The Wedding Singer" when I hear this song.😆
Same! “This much is true, Robbie and Juliaaaaaaa”
@@MsAmberAnne ☺️
I knew you were going to love that sax
A quintessential 80's tune, no auto tune, just what looks like brand new instruments, all are impeccably dressed, look at those suits, especially the lead singers suit is awesome IMO, and would still in 2023 look as striking as it did in 1983. These guys radiated class as well as not using any auto tune or other artificial musical enhancement, just pure talent. I miss music like this from the 80's, the change from the 70's was so drastic that it actually show's that when you listen closely how good and different the melody
and flow in music like "True" is. It makes me remember the feelings I had when I first heard this back in 1983, it also shows, to me at least, that any really great songs will never lose its luster and how this, even 40 years later, still is as soul stirring and powerful when compared to the absolutely horrible garbage 90% of today's music is.
One of my all time favorite songs, other than Gold another good hit of them is "Only when you leave" check that out pleasr
Yes to talents, no autotune, or any of that other crap, and look how they dress class
it was sampled by P M Dawn on their single "set adrift on memory bliss"
Sweet song here Love you
"I know, I know, I know this much is true... Oh yes I do... Robbie and Juuuuuulia-haha" 🎶
-The Wedding Singer (movie) 😂❤
Lol… I commented the same thing above! 😂 I’ve seen that movie a million times.
:-D
ABC was another British band constantly played on MTV. Poison Arrow, Look of Love and When Smokey Sings. Synth Pop 🎉
I was 18 and we were having fun and loving life when this came out. Fond memories.
My favorite song on the movie “Sixteen Candles “
And "The Wedding Singer"
This song got played at a lot of proms and school dances 👀
One of the all time best slow dance songs!
🇨🇦 Got some more like that for you, unless you have already done them !
First is "Everybody wants to rule the World" by Tears for fears ! Second is "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty ! Third is "I'm not in Love" by 10CC !
Good Luck !
Loved this reaction. Thanks for enjoying it as much as I did when I first heard this.
This was my favorite song in the 80s. I was in high school
Thanks great tune...stu from Newcastle Australia 😅
I love the 80's. There is nothing hotter than good looking guys in suits. Just cannot get enough of this band.
A song I always associate with this one is "More Than This" by Roxy Music. They're not the same, but they came out around the same time and have a similarly contemplative feel.
That is still one of my top favorite songs of ALL TIME ❤❤❤
Me too. ❤
@@lesscarmel5527 Me three.
That one and the title track Avalon. What a great album
@SalvoG Roxy Music is an absolute *must listen*!! They influenced Spandau Ballet, U2, Duran Duran, Talking Heads, and SO many others!
My favorite albums are Avalon (“More Than This”, “Avalon”,…well, all the tracks, really 😂) and Flesh + Blood (“Oh Yeah”, “Over You”, and my favorite Roxy Music song ever: “Rain Rain Rain”❤️❤️❤️❤️)
Enjoy! 💐
One of my favorites. Sooo 80s❤
This song 🎵 played at all of our middle and high school dances back in the 80’s
The 80's had so many good songs. Several one hit wonders. Have you heard Cutting Crew's-(I just) died in your arms tonight? There is an orchestra version that's pretty cool. This is one of those songs that when you're driving you can't help but sing along.
Hello brother. Greetings from Malaysia. Please react to Al Stewart ~ Year Of The Cat. Thank you.
I was a kid and I was at their concert in Zagreb in the 1980s. The day after I went to Ljubljana and saw the concert for the second time. What a performance that was!!
Through The Barricades is my favourite Spandau song. Gold is fab too!!
They were great live in the ‘80s. Gold was always my fav.
I remember skating to this at the skating rink back in the early 80s with my girlfriend, now my wife. Lots of memories of the wonderful 1980s. And this song is iconic of that decade,
Killer voice. They had 2 other American Top 40 hits, "Gold", the follow-up to "True" and "Only When You Leave" from their next album. Both good.
Also the kemp twins played ron and reg kray in the movie the krays 😊
From The Righteous Brothers who started Blue-Eyed Soul, (which is R & B music that sounds like Black music created in the 50's & 60's highlighted by the Motown sound), to Doobie Brothers....Blue-Eyed soul spilled over in the 80's with Halls & Oats and Spandau Ballet leading the way. Excellent song and Excellent group.
Great memories with this song, I met my wife when this song came out ❤
❤❤❤❤❤
If you would like to hear their more new wave sound from their debut, I would highly recommend 'To Cut A Long Story Short' from their very first album. Plenty of synth and a hypnotic bass line (plus the video is 80s alternative new wave AF!)
Takes me back to Prom!! 😆
Excellent reaction 😊❤
My favourite by this band……Lifeline……if you want more of Tony as a solo….look for song called Obvious…..done during covid times……he still got it and the video was made by his daughter
This is the best slow dance song of the 80's ... and 90's, and 00's and 10's and 20's and most likely the 30's !
Their best song is "GOLD". You'll love it!
this song was in the wedding singer and i can't ever listen to it without singing the "robbie and juuuuuuulia-ah-ah" part at the end lol
I graduated high school in 1982 - the year this song came out - and I immediately fell in love with it! Rushed out and bought the cassette! Loved the album! Loved the group! Loved the European sexy vibe of the song! Brings back lots of great memories! :)
