Far from one take. This was the most complex song of the album to record - The recording process was the longest of all the tracks on Spirits Having Flown as there are nine layers of three-part harmony, creating 27 voices, though the high falsetto voices are the most pronounced in the final mix:
Barry on falsetto lead three times
      falsetto high harmony three times
      falsetto low harmony three times
Barry on natural voice lead three times
      high harmony three times
      low harmony three times
Barry, Robin and Maurice together on lead three times
      high harmony three times
      low harmony three times

Barry perfects the best ever falsetto! Also when he’s at his highest pitch, both Maurice and Robin are easily able to instantly reach that same high not and blend the harmonies all together. I don’t think any other group could do that, but because they are all brothers the genes come into play being so similar. But it’s obviously the practiced skill and time put in on the work that really comes out.

I’ve seen posts say it hit 20 million as of 2019, but I haven’t found any actual source for that. Barry included the song on his 2021 hit album, Greenfields, so that (duet with Alison Krauss) will bring UNICEF even more $$.

BeeGees are the greatest singers/songwriters in the world. Nooooo. Not just a disco group. Barry would get pissed when anybody referred them to that title. They wrote over 1000 songs. They started singing in 1958. (Just small lads at that time). They have hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and even into 2000. Barry is the bearded one with the beautiful teeth. Yes, this was recorded live with an orchestra and Chicago's band section did the horn work. The Bee Gees wanted to always be able to replicate live the way their songs sounded on albums so they often toured with full piece orchestras as well as Chicago's horn section. Because of that the Bee Gees are one of the very few bands that absolutely sounded as good, if not better, live as they did on albums. They could sing a cappella at the drop of a hat without any warm-up at all, and as you can see and hear from Too Much Heaven their harmonies were tight! Oh and, yeahhh, they were ridiculously handsome too!

The Bee Gees don't always sing in falsetto. They did not discover their falsetto voices until years after they started singing.
Barry Gibb was born in 1946. The other two brothers are fraternal twin, Robin and Maurice. They were born in 1949. They started singing when Barry was 8 and the twins Maurice and Robin were 5. They formed the Bee Gees in music group in 1958. They wrote and produced over 1,000 songs over 5 decades and wrote for Diana Ross, Dion Warrick, Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton and even Michael Jackson. They were musical geniuses. They constantly reinvented themselves, constantly growing as singers and song writers.
They have sold over 120 million records worldwide (with estimates as high as over 225 million records sold worldwide), making them among the best-selling music artists of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997; the Hall's citation says, "Only Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees." With nine number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100, the Bee Gees are the third-most successful band in Billboard charts history behind only the Beatles and the Supremes.
Following Maurice's sudden death in January 2003 at the age of 53, Barry and Robin retired the group's name after 45 years of activity. In 2009, Robin announced that he and Barry had agreed that the Bee Gees would re-form and perform again. Robin died in May 2012, aged 62, after a prolonged period of failing health, leaving Barry as the only surviving member of the group. Their younger brother Andy was about 10 years younger than the twins. He formed his own group and was as talented as his older brothers. He did sing with the Bee Gees a few times. Andy died in 1988 from inflammation of the years, as a result of a viral infection.
Barry is the only Bee Gee who is still alive. At 76 years old he's still writing songs, performing, and putting out albums.

What a lot of people don't know is that there are 5 siblings in the Gibb family. The eldest is their sister, Lesley. She is about a year and a half older than Barry. She was apparently a talented singer herself, and briefly performed with the Bee Gees when Robin left for a short period of time in 1969, but she found live performances nerve-wracking. That was her only time in show business, and she quit when Robin returned to the Bee Gees, never to perform again. She is still alive and living in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales with her husband of 56 years. They have 8 children.

Thanks, Tex! Any one of those Gibb boys could hit any of those notes at any moment.. Barry was several years older than the fraternal twins, Robin & Maurice... so he was their natural leader... personally, I think that Robin had the most unique and beautiful voice... look forward to more...

I’m in the U.K. and a journalist here described Robin’s voice as being like a strangled cats! That’s harsh but I get what he meant…too much vibrato and he couldn’t sing without it, for a whole song it’s very irritating.

I was married one year (1977) before this was released in 1978! This would have been in my wedding too, but with them singing, at the reception.
Love, love, love the Bee Gees. I am a black female, 67 yrs old, grew up with them. (A bit lengthy, but a must read.) The Bees Gees: (from left to right) Robin, Barry and Maurice (pronounced Morris)
Robin (Dec 22, 1949 - May 20, 2012) passed away as a result of kidney failure.
Maurice (Dec 22, 1949 - Jan. 12, 2003.) Passed as a result of a twisted intestine. He was in the hospital for 2 days. Barry said he had a heart attack, but the doctors still operated. He left behind his wife, Yvonne and two children. Maurice and Robin were fraternal twins.
Andy Gibb, the youngest brother, had his own successful career. He was 12 yrs younger than Barry. He and Barry looked so much alike, that they could had been twins. Andy passed away in 1988, at the age of 30. Barry stated that Andy lived the 'LA lifestyle' involving drugs, and he had heart problems. The brothers wrote all of his songs.
Barry stated, "I am the last man standing." He was born September 1, 1946. He has 5 adult children and 7 grandkids. On September 1, 2022, he and his wife Linda celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. (They were married on his 24th birthday.)
On a side note, the first born is their sister, Lesley, who will be 78, January 12, 2023. Maurice passed on the same day as her 58th birthday. Lesley didn't have an interest to be in the limelight, but she can sing. At about the age of 2, Barry reached on the table and a pot of hot tea fell on his chest and arms. You can see the shine on his chest. His mom said he did not talk for almost 2 yrs. Skin grafts were not used in the 40s, so he was in the hospital for a long time. His mom said he almost died. They wrote all of their songs, and songs for other singers, which they sang after the songs were released for the other singers. The brothers have a VERY IMPRESSIVE catalogue of songs! I recommend the following songs:
For Whom the Bells Toll ruclips.net/video/vT_P0ztMQ7o/видео.html
    Closer Than Close ruclips.net/video/m6XIdjEHLRs/видео.html
    One ruclips.net/video/KRUeMgzOCCo/видео.html
    You Win Again ruclips.net/video/KZY9oYSSjFI/видео.html
    Spirits (Having Flown) ruclips.net/video/ONmVEJnxysc/видео.html
    Bodyguard ruclips.net/video/Fx5XwIKCs3o/видео.html
Emotion (written for Samantha Sang) ruclips.net/video/b_wTZjo9azk/видео.html
At one time 5 of their songs were in the top 10. Another time, four of the songs that were written by them for others were in the top 5. A song that Barry wrote for Andy was #2, but then it went to #1, and the Bee Gees song became #2!
Barry has since released a CD titled: The Gibb Brothers' Songbook (Vol. 1). (January 2021) It has more of a country sound. It includes other artists singing the brothers' songs. .

The brothers Gibb had hits over 5 decades. Singing since they were kids in the 1950s. And their sound changed often. I hope you try songs from other decades. Their ‘disco’ songs were only 4 out of 45+ years of music.

Too Much Heaven is from the Bee Gee's live performance at The Music for UNICEF Concert: A Gift of Song. It was a benefit concert of popular music held in the United Nations General Assembly in New York City on January 9, 1979. It was intended to raise money for UNICEF world hunger programs and to mark the beginning of the International Year of the Child. The concert was videotaped and broadcast the following day on NBC in the U.S. and around the world. The Bee Gees gave UNICEF rights to all royalties from the song. It's raised about $13 Million for UNICEF thus far.

They are top artists, songwriters, musicians, and producers. Their stats are incredible. Started as a kid act, then launched their international career from London in 1967, were written off as a 60’s group, reinvented themselves and came back to dominate the 70’s, only to again be written off as a 70’s disco group (even tho the flip side of Too Much Heaven made the Country charts - REST YOUR LOVE), so in the 80’s focused on writing and producing VERY successful albums for some top artists, before coming back in 1987 with YOU WIN AGAIN. They hold the record for #1 hits in either four or five decades, built a HUGE fan base, and a catalogue of over 1000 songs In all genres, so don’t try to put them in any particular box. There’s not another group like them. Barry had THE look for guys in the 70’s with that hair.... and there was poor Maurice losing his in his 20’s!!! Please react to JIVE TALKIN, the song that launched their 70’s comeback.

He and his wife Linda have been married for 52 years and have 5 children. By the way - Barry's oldest son Stephen could be your twin. Stephen is a heavy-metal musician.
