While dangling at the end of the rope, many victims would twitch and jump, which came to be called the "Spandau Ballet".
"Spandau" is a district in the west of Berlin and there you will find the name as part of sights or businesses. The prison itself doesn't exist anymore, it was demolished 1987.

Lead singer is Tony Hadley and Gary’s brother Martin on bass. Try “Gold” next. One thing to keep in mind that a lot of 80s UK groups were influenced by Motown. “Listening to Marvin, all night long” Another great group is ABC - The Look of Love, Poison Arrow, When Smokey Sings.

There was a band called OMD (Orchestrated Manoeuvers In The Dark) that had a song called 'If You Leave' that I always think of when I hear this song by Spandau Ballet(the name is pretty gruesome btw).It was in another Molly Ringwald movie called Pretty In Pink.

However, when Spandau Ballet came on to the music scene, immpeccably, dressed with videos that were tastefully done, their style and approach was like a breath of fresh air.🙂

This song came out in 1983. It got me hooked. I bought every album and saw them live in concert. The singer Tony Hadley still performs today and his voice is still as strong as ever
