The guy on the piano, Gary Kemp is the song writer and brains behind the band ! He also played the part of Whitney Houston's manager in the movie " The Bodyguard"
Never heard of the Knuckles song but this was a huge international number 1 song all over the World. They were one of the biggest acts in the World in the 80s. I actually find it sad that so many young people don't recognise real instruments any more. Not being able to distinguish the sounds of different instruments, especially. So much modern music is just made up of samples of older tracks, parts of old tracks, producers pressing buttons, autotune and everything produced to death. Most chart artists don't create their own music anymore. There are still real artists out there but they rarely make it into the charts. It's all corporate, mass produced and marketed soulless 'music'. Young people's tastes and expectations appear to have dropped, generally speaking. Image and production have become more important than actual talent...
(From Wikipedia): "True" is a song by English new wave band Spandau Ballet, released in April 1983....number one on the UK chart in April 1983 and made the top 10 in several other countries, including the US....used in films such as Sixteen Candles and 50 First Dates, as well as TV series like Modern Family...."'True' is about how difficult it is to be honest when you're trying to write a love song to someone"....the Hot 100.."True" peaked at number 4....Later in the month..Adult Contemporary chart, where it spent 22 weeks, one of them at number 1...."
My jr yr in high school this came out, the 80’s were the best years for music. If I could relive them all over again, I’d love to be stuck there in a time loop.
Awesome new wave group from the early 80s! You should try to react to their other song! “Lifeline”👌😎👍great tune! Lol 😂they did used it! Briefly On the movie “16 candles!” The dance scene!
Actually I read it’s worse than that. The spandau ballet is the spasms or “dance” the guards would call people they killed in the ovens as they wriggled from despair. AWFUL. the band saw it on a bathroom wall and thought it sounded cool. It makes me shudder though i love them
Tony Hadley, born June 2, 1960, was the lead singer. I didn’t know that until now as the Kemp brothers received so much attention. Gary Kemp wrote the song about his feelings for Scottish singer Clare Grogan.
imagine growing up surrounded by music like this, give through the barricades a try another great song

Waves really suit you, stick with them.
Spandau Ballet, part of the New Romantic/new wave movement in the blessed 80's
Even more popular in UK than this was “Gold,” which you should check out. Also glorious and beautiful visually.
I was influenced by them growing up. Always wished I could sing like Tony Hadley

Spandau was the prison where the Nazi war criminals were kept after WWII
When the guards changed they called it the Spandau Ballet
