@@Coowallskysort of but not exactly. The lyrics were indeed inspired by his wife complaining that he never told her that he loved her and him telling her that if he said it too often they would become glib or meaningless and that's what spawned the song but the song is not really intended to be a unique expression of saying I love you to her
One of the most beautiful songs, ever! I got engaged right before this, and I felt so bad for this girl, until I realized he’s sooooo in love, he can’t help but deny it! The background layers are their voices!
The lead singer was having breakfast with his wife and she was complaining that he doesn't say I love you anymore, so he wrote it from the point of view of someone who is so in love that he's afraid to admit it to himself.
I am from the UK and, and my mid sixties now, so my formative musical years were the 1970's. Listening to this track and many others, from this decade, and in some cases, for the first time in many years. It struck me watching this video, how very lucky, I and many others, were to live through such a rich, golden period of great music. And also, how blase I was, oblivious to the epic soundtrack, playing in the background. But rediscovering the music, has put a huge smile on my face................
Ditto. I was a teen in the 70's and still have many albums, & 45's from that era. All of 10cc's albums, ELO, Barry White, Bryan Ferry, etc. Such a rich era for music. Nice to see the youth of today picking up on the talent of that era.
This track dates from 1975 and is considered one of the greatest songs of all time. The background sounds were made by taping and retaping the bands vocals ending up with over 100 tracks. Very innovative in its day. There are videos about the making of this track that are worth watching. This version has a horrible cut about 1 minute from the end.
What he said. This song is great because it was meticulously crafted with insane skills. Also, I love how many dudes say he's NOT in love, when he so clearly is.
The lyrics aren't mean. It's about a guy who is frightened at the feelings he's having and denying that he's in love with this girl, even though he clearly is. It's more sad and sweet than "mean"
Written by band members Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman, Stewart came up with the idea for the song after his wife of eight years asked him why he didn't say "I love you" more often.
I'm so glad you got it. It physically hurts me when people don't. But I don't think he was being mean, it's more like he's trying to convince himself he's not. The target of his love doesn't buy his denial, I'm sure.
Its a groundbreaking song and was cutting edge when it came out. The instrument you are asking about are hundreds of peoples voices played through a synth. Lastly the name 10cc, well that meaning isn't what you're thinking it is lol. I will let you find that one out 🙂
It is about his wife complaining that he doesn't tell her that he loves her when all the signs of the opposite were there ,he was being sarcastic because she wasn't paying attention at all...
The best “in denial” song ever. One of THE songs of my life! Remembers me, in the 70’s, listening this in my room, lights off, just “traveling” in those strange and kind of magical sounds! All so new and original, then! Still love this!!!!! ✌️
Actually, they sampled each of their voices, singing one note from each scale, and then they multiply them, and ultimately, there are 640 voices all in all that are used.
Yeah you're not understanding the song correctly my friend. It's about the lead singer and his wife. He was on the road so much and they weren't together very often. So they got in an argument because she said that he doesn't say he loves her anymore. He felt by saying it all the time it devalues the meaning of love. So he wrote the song opposite of how he really felt. It's a brilliant piece. 🎤🎸🎥🎧
It's all multi-tracked voices doing that massive voice sound. There are some rare instruments that do that sound though - the Mellotron and the Birotron. They both use lots of tapes in them under the keys to do a sound like that. The Mellotron does the flutes and violins, and the Birotron does the choirs. ruclips.net/video/oydqMqsy94g/видео.html
I always thought it was a song about a breakup where the guy is calling his ex and she is listening while he starts to unravel. It broke my heart when it first came out and it still does.😢
It's not an instrument. It's their voices. The girl who did the "Be quiet..big boys don't cry " was an office worker in the studio who tried to run away when they asked her to help them on their song. She was so scared.
The harmony harmony is in this song is the four members of the group singing over and over and over again on a four track, and then the four track went to a track. They ended up with something like 120 voices singing in the background, which sounds like a choir 4 people
That is not an instrument. That is the band doing all the octaves and then them looping it over the 100 different versions and then playing all them back and playing it over the mixing board. The woman saying "Big Boys don't cry" was the studio secretary and the tingling is a Christmas ornament. They could never play this song live and it sound likethis.
Check out the version " night of the proms " in the Neatherlands from some years ago .It will blow away any idea that this classic couldn't be performed live on stage .
The music is wonderful, and the lyrics kinda creepy, a combo quite common in the 70's. You might have heard this and other great 70's hits in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
The Song was to his Ex-Wife the one he lost everything to... He just letting her know she lost a'lot when loosing him when she lost him she screwed up he is pouring his heart out... The Stains on the Wall is the fighting her and smashing things over the wall and making stains... Not NEW Love but OLD Love you know how we feel when you lost something we can never have back.. I am Not in Love means he will never have that Love he ONCE had.. BIG BOYS DON'T CRY, BIG BOYS DON'T CRY, BIG BOYS DON'T CRY, BIG BOYS DON'T CRY... BTW love the Ah Haa Shirt
not true, actually his wife complained he didnt say i love you much, he replied if he kept saying it, might weaken his "i love yous", so he decided to write this love song, which is one of the greatest
Nice review and i was going to suggest that to really appreciate this work of art one needs to listen to the longer original album version .I never thought this classic could be reproduced live on stage until i heard the one of the band with full orchestra and choir at the night of the proms in the Neatherlands 2019 which shows the capacity of how deep the human voice can touch ones soul and is simply wonderful on the ears .Here it is :) ❤ruclips.net/video/WMjPJTPdPm4/видео.htmlsi=7YoYTcOQYLkmyYGq
Rumour has it that the band's name refers to the quantity of male ejaculate. Just saying. Whatever, you should listen to the full length version as this is spoilt by cropping. Definitely an all-time classic and probably the 1970s most iconic love song. Brilliant.
THIS BAND ORIGINATED FROM MANCHESTER ENGLAND. WHO HE IS SINGING ABOUT IS HIS WIFE. HE MEANS JUST THE OPPOSITE. HE OBVIOUSLY IS VERY MUCH IN LOVE WITH HER
This song is not mean at all, its about a guy that is so far gone in love with this woman he denies it with every ounce of energy. He's HOPELESSLY in love with her.
Thy lyric isn’t “mean.” It is a man denying, in vain, that he’s still in love with a woman. It’s an incredible love song.
of course not
Oh. Do you think so, doctor? It couldn’t be more obvious that the lyricist is deeply in love. From the first set of lyrics.
Not really. It was simply the songwriter using a different way to tell his wife that he loves her without it sounding too cliche.

Everyone who’s been in love and trying to deny it feels like this song , best love song ever.

True. So many people these days have never heard real music. They have no idea how awesome music was. Sad.

The backing is a choir of their voices with over 80 tracks and harmonies .. never been done before or since. A one of a kind track.
Has been done many times since.
624 voices from 3 men.
He was taught to deny his feelings (older generation) - "big boys don't cry" and thus he's trying his best to deny his love. He's in love.

Man I was only 12 years old when this song came out!😮 i always thought this song was wayyy ahead of time! Beautiful song.
And the lady saying big boys, don’t cry was there receptionist
yep the secretary
I use to think she was saying "be quiet, be quiet... " and did for years until I saw the lyrics or an explanation on the internet (decades later)

He is obviously in love. It's irony.

He's actually so in love.
The Greatest song ever written 🇬🇧
The smooth sounds you hear in the background is the band voices through out the whole song
yup lot of work

Imagine being back in the70's listening to this song... and you're 16
I was 15 back in 1975 when this was released, and definitely in love. You never forget...😉
I was there at 15 - What a time to be alive.
yeah tell me i was 14
I was 18 and when I heard this I thought it was the best song I had ever heard. Now in 2024 I'm 67 and I haven't changed my mind.
Plot twist: Yeah, he's in love 😊
It is about his wife complaining that he doesn't tell her that he loves her when all the signs of the opposite were there ,he was being sarcastic because she wasn't paying attention at all...
Unfortunately, this is not the full version of the song. It actually runs a couple of minutes longer and is infinitely better. This was the radio edit
Yep and has to be listened to so as to appreciate just how great it is 👍 .

from that album also check out, I’m Mandy fly me, and art for arts sake. They are a little bit weird, but very loved.
576 voices. 3 singers x 12 notes (entire scale) x 16 tracks. Amazing!
Great Reaction - Accurate Analysis.
Interesting fact , the harmony in this song is all of them singing , then recorder over again 10 times
Actually, they sampled each of their voices, singing one note from each scale, and then they multiply them, and ultimately, there are 640 voices all in all that are used.
Eric Stewart was soooo handsome!!❤️❤️❤️
"What is that 8instrument?" Their voices multi-reacked.
His mother taught him to hide his feelings (big boys don't cry) so he's not just "in denial" but also trying to protect himself emotionally.

A very young Peter Quil, listen a classic track while his grandfather comes to inform that he has to see his mom for last time before she passes...
Wonderful song of the 70's❤
Very accurate reaction. He is in denial and definitively love this girl. And everything you said was right. Nice reaction.

all vocals
multi tracking, bounce tracking.
Layers are 24 tracks on a synthesizer… beautiful song !
10CC has a very specific meaning.
You seem really chill cool reaction
10cc has stuff you could never imagine in your wildest dreams & you cannot place them in any genre. They are constantly "out of the box".
Wish you still made videos

They only did one octave.

It was in Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Professor of Rock had an excellent video on this song.
Check out there other great song, The Things We Do For Love.

Listen to the Wall Street Shuffle by 10 cc
The instrument you refered to is a voice. The band did this song with instruments and it just did not work. Substitute voices and you have this song.
Dreadlock Holiday next
WOW- you may bethe first reaction to this video on RUclips who got it right- brava!
This song was the singer trying to convence himself that he was not in love when he probable was.

Try some Queen blow your mind ❤
The song is about denial and with a small touch of British irony - brilliant !
The guy is just in denial, I wouldn't say it's mean. A lot of people have been in a relationship like this.
Ambrosia, Holding on to yesterday is just a bit better this this song. This song is very good. love it.
SHE BROKE UP WITH HIM
A very deceiving song.
