The chocolate addiction has been around for years for a reason. Not a single thumb release that has come out since has knocked the Chocolate addiction off its perch. People always want to try what's new but new doesn't equal better, especially in this case. The chocolate addiction is perfect and I've used just about every single release offered.
Always enjoy your videos, saw this release today and picked it up because you recommended it, wow. I cannot believe I never tried a release like this before. No more wrist strap, I cannot believe how amazing the break feels with this. So natural and smooth. Thanks for the heads up.
When I got into archery a few years ago, I bought a TruFire Edge 4 at the recommendation of a salesperson as a good entry point to using a thumb release. I was at the range a few months ago and noticed that many of the target archers were using these. After talking to one of them and hearing how much he liked it, I decided to give one a try. I'm fairly new to archery but want to take it seriously and this feels like a good investment. I'd never used a click release before and this just blew me away. I love it.
Been shooting xtinction 2 for 2 weeks now and love it...bought it based on your review....thanks a ton...been pitching the idea for a thumb release now thanks to you...well you get the drift....keep up the videos
Great video! I have been shooting a Mathews bow for 30+ years and have always used an index finger release. Just bought a new V3 31" and decided to start using a thumb release. The stan perfex is a great release. I also bought a Perfex resistance and both complement each other. I have and old Stan back tension release, but found it was too different from my finger release to really help me. Very informative video.
Totally agree, I shoot the Stan perfex back tension. By far the best and also the Sten Perfex are not bulky in the hand. They feel much more comfortable than other major manufacturers. My scores improved dramatically since using the perfex.
I currently use that exact release and it's without a doubt, one of the best purchases I have ever made. The barrel can also be put on at an angle. So instead of sticking straight out 90°, you can have it at 70° or 65°. I have mine at an angle because when I'm at full draw, the pad of my thumb isn't exactly at a 90° bend in relation to the rest of my hand. So by putting the barrel on at an angle, it allows the release to truly fit my hand like a glove. IMO this is the best release out there and will be tough to beat. Well worth the $249 I spent for it. The sear lock feature is amazing and anyone that has this release and is not taking advantage of it, is doing themselves a disservice. Great review sir!!! 👏
I LOVE my Stan Perfex, adjustable as can be, and with the "trainer lock " I can draw my bow and go though my whole shot process without firing an arrow !
I live near LAS and they steered me to this release too. I loved it so much I bought a second - for the just in case scenarios when hunting. And even bought the tension version to help manage target panic. I winded up with XL. My hands are wide and felt right. My hands don’t look much larger than yours. I guess it’s all in the personal fit. Two things to note too: (1) the break of the release is super crisp, you definitely feel the engineered quality of this release (2) their customer service is outstanding; I once dropped one and ruined the spring and they fixed it right up and really quickly too.
I love my long neck! I usually have my thumb button on the first knuckle of my thumb, and touch my index finger with the tip of my thumb so I can use back tension to set it off. Love the vids!
I bought one a couple of days ago. First two times shooting it was great. Third time out I had two misfires mid draw and lost an arrow. I had a friend watching me after the first misfire and made sure I wasn't bumping a trigger. I had come to find out the store I bought it from was demoing it and they had adjusted the trigger travel to almost non existent. For anyone that buys one, PLEASE make sure you check the instructions and either factory reset it or make sure tension and travel are not too light. Despite that I think it's an awesome release.
2 & a half years ago I bought a Stan SX-3. 2 years ago I bought a Perfex Blackout blindly cuz of the feature he had to clip to the string. However I prefer the SX-3 after I put a Total-Peep product that u stick on the bottom of a thumb release. It allows u to clip to the string after u attach the release on the d-loop. The weight & feel was a little light to me. The SX-3 has this shelf on the top that u can rest your pinkie on. I use it to squeeze my hand & it actually makes me pull through the shot better. Like pinching your 2 shoulder blades together on your back. I'm actually doing a pinkie pinch 😋
Love mine, a game changer for sure. Swapped to Stan after your XTinction review, and got the resistance long neck as well… I started with closed finger Carters, but I found it leads to pulling with small muscles in the arm and shoulder. Open like the Perfex, much easier to use your frame and larger wing and trunk muscles.
My favorite, too (Large, Long Neck). I bought the Resistance one too, as well as a Morex Black Pearl hinge. Threw ex-Oakie brass barrels on each for a little added heft. Better releases than I am a shooter, for sure.
Cool review. The adjustability it unmatched, but the price is as well. It's really expensive. I felt like the Cart Wise Choice, or the JD Nock 2 It were better values. They should consider a lower price point and I think they'd see a lot more people choose this release. Glad to hear they addressed the spring, which was one of the big negatives.
I've got the Carter insatiable 3 and adjusted the thumb button with an truball abyss extension and an spherical thumb button. Really like it but a little worried about it slipping out of hand during shot. Kinda wish I got the wise choice with the index finger donut hole instead. 🏹🤠👍
I was playing around with releases and between this and the Carter Wise choice I went with the Wise Choice, mainly due to price. No regrets yet, but this looks like it would have been a higher end option.
Don't regret your decision. I had one of these and prefer the wise choice. I actually like the sx3 heavy metal better than this one too if you have a chance you should try that one too
NEVER would have thought I would buy a release for almost $300 :O but really glad I did, no travel and a crisp break, also the easiest release to lock on loop, being able to angle the finger groves and move barrel angle, tilt and distance has been a huge benefit. I always used 3 finger and was thinking I might end up liking it set up 2 finger... really great it comes with all the options, turns out I like it in four finger. easier more consistent for me with four, I would never have bothered to buy a 4 finger option and just used what it came with.
Stan Perfex is the best for hunting IMO. If you are into hunting with a thumb release. Check out AOT’s magnetic mounting technology that gives you the same instant access you get with a wrist strap out of your thumb Release. 👍
Black one’s no different, other than color. The ‘heavy metal’ version has a black chrome kindof look. I split the difference and got large brass ex-Oakie knobs.
I recently got this release coming from the Nock2it. The Nock2it is a great release and I have nothing but good things to say about that, but this Stan Prefex is on a WHOLE different level. So much customization to your hand and the break is so clean and crisp. I give it a 10/10 =)
I have the silverback, and I like it. It’s also my first release, I never learned on a wrist strap or anything else. I’ll have to keep this in mind, if I ever look for another release.
I've also been using the nock2it. Had it for about 6 months and it's my favorite so far. Only gripe I have is the lack of customization on thumb button positioning. I'll have to give this one a try. Is it about the same length from the valley of the finger slots to the hook?
IMHO...best release on the market! I have 2 of the Heavy Metal versions and run the as a 2 finger set up. Hve been doing this for early 2 tears now and don't see myself sin any other release ay tie soon! Love My STAN's!!!
I use that one. It has also two other advantages: doesn't require any kind of maintenance (in fact you should NOT oil the release ever) and has an extra hook which lets you hang the release from the d-loop. The Abyss is a great competition in terms of versatility but lacks the training brake and the closed hook to hang it from the d-loop. IMO in you want to switch between thumb and hinge releases the GOAT is great, and in hinge there's a ton of choices at the top level, but for thumb releases the Stan PerfecX Heavy Metal Long Neck is the best release in the market.
I had the release for a week and it broke where the claw holds string d loop causing my bow to dry fire because I didn’t think I needed an arrow to use the training pin that prevents firing but when release broke it made my string come off. I have to get new string and retune bow. Have not heard back from their technicians. I really liked the release so hopefully it was just a bad one and most are built better. I only shot it 3 times with arrow and pulled back about 6 times to adjust the sight. Learned lesson to always have arrow when pulling bow back just in case something breaks.
That's an awesome video but if you could actually have a link below for the release or whatever your talking about that day thanks for all the information keep them coming 👍
So true about the long neck. Too bad when u shoot it with a 3 finger that u don't have that shelf like the SX-3. That release would feel totally different to me if that was possible. I prefer the larger thumb barrel & adjusted it so I really had to make a fist to fire it. The pin is a game changer. If u use that system along with the Wartorn Archery shot trainer u can't help but be a better archer & hunter. A comes b4 H. Not the other way around.
Where is the best place to purchase? What is the full title to make sure I get the correct one... Drop a link brother 😀 Is this a good release for hunting?
Love your videos. Thanks. I am a 65 year young female bow hunter. I am considering making the switch to a button from an index release. I currently shoot the keeton because of the four finger pull which saves my shoulder and adds a few pounds to my peak weight. Is there any sizing charts to know which size to order?I am only 5’3 and have probably average hands for a women. Is there any other newer releases you feel have come out that may be better? I routinely go in and out of target panic mode and struggle to not punch. Any info would be great. Keep the videos coming.
I bought this release about two weeks ago. I’m shooting more accurately and the custom fit w the thumb button and overall hand fit has my target panic issues subsiding greatly. Shot break is so crisp.
My favorite as well, I have the LN resistance and the SN thumb. I have come to prefer the Short Neck so now I need to find someone that would want to trade a SN resistance for a LN.
Stan makes a great product. I still prefer Carter Insatiable for a 4 finger. I have huge hands so that matters to me. I have shot all the Stan's and currently shoot the Black Pearl as my BT option. The shootdown 4 finger is very nice and my pick 🙂
I've got the Carter insatiable 3 which I love but, I wish I had gotten a too simple with a "donut hole" for the index finger so there is less chance of it slipping out of hand during the shot. 🏹🤠👍
I went to a shop and they let me grab and shoot like 10 different releases. Carter, Stan, b3, and a bunch. Some rando dude next to me told me to shoot the perfex first, and it like almost ruined the whole trial experience because nothing felt as good as it did. especially in 3 finger. I got nervous that he put some kind of mental voodoo on me, but it turns out, I just really prefer the perfex.
I’ve been using an index finger tru ball for about 20 years. I’m considering trying a thumb release. Can I use a lanyard with this Stan that you’re showing?
Read the reviews on the Lancaster website for this release and they are not so good. Most of them are several years old, though. Has this release been improved? Shooting the Nock2It currently, but looking to purchase something along the lines of the Stan. I really enjoy your videos!
I think this is the second version and as mentioned they didn't like the spring that had to be replaced but that's now been replaced with a beefier version for this release
Great review with a ton of detailed information. Does the hook reset and lock using the button on the back spine of the release or do you have to close the hook with a finger?
there is a button in the middle of the back, slightly under the trigger mechanism that you push. Then the hook is locked, and the little 1-way string holder is always just 1 way open. So once you push the lock on the back, you can just click it on your string without any effort what so ever and it can hang there on your d loop if you prefer.
spizzle419 yes sir, I'm well aware of how these work except I've never held one of this exact style. Question was - does the hook close by itself when the button/locking mechanism is pushed? Or do you have to reach out with a finger and close it on the d-loop. Example my Carter Wise Choice closes when this same style button is pushed.
Yes Tim the hook is spring loaded and is always in the closed position. If yo hook it to your D-loop it will not hook unless you press the cocking button on the back. The hook is free to open unless it is cocked. A word to a hunter, to remove from the D-loop when cocked it must be fired, NOISE.
@@lloydwellington5271 That's not true. I have this release and all you have to do is use your finger/fingernail to depress the little spring activated guard and you can easily get it off the string without firing. It's just like opening a carabiner.
@@skutche You are absolutely correct. Then again there are several other ways I could remove it from the D-loop without hitting the go button. Just saying ;)
Gosh after reading the comments and watching you I will be spending $300 for one. Oh yes I’m a tinker. How big is that whitetail behind you looks good 👍✌🏻🇺🇸
Switched from index to thumb back in Jan, and this is what i went to (Heavy metal version). Now I've got a second (blackout) as a 3D back-up and hunting primary. Trying to convince my brain to do the Jessie Broadwater "relax your grip while pulling" to break the shot. Works on a bale but I can't make my brain do it on a 3D. Ha Ha Ha Truly awesome release though
This is a little off the subject but I notice thst u use a short nock. Could u please do a video on the advantages of the Firenock & the installation process to achieve the matched grain system whether u have a 🔋in them or not?
@@josephtreadlightly5686 only advantage of illuminated knocks is hunting at dusk and being able to spot your arrow after your shot. Disadvantages include extra weight at the back of the arrow, reducing your FOC, they're not always a consistent weight so each arrow is different and if you run them, you need to run them in the arrow always because going back and forth with nocks will throw out a sight tape or pins. Plus they're expensive!
@@mitchimal, I shoot over 20%FOC & I have the weight matched system of Firenock still new in the envelope. I could get them to shoot great with only 3 lighted ones in the quiver, but it is a process to put them in so I'm just wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze? It's more of a video slow motion thing to me. I try to run 2 cameras that r different with a very nice trail camera in video mode.
@Inside Out Precision I had this release and the Shootoff thumb button. But every time I tried to practice I would let loose an arrow early in the draw. Could you do a video on how to draw using a thumb release the right way? My thumb keeps wanting to cover the top of the release when drawing back. I'm instead using the Xtinction 2 and also sometimes use a Truball Maxball which is a slim thumb release with jaws.
I have this release and it isn't a real "thumb trigger" release. It's a hinge release with a safety. If I'm wrong please educate me! Personally for me I've been a command shooter for way too long and this just wasn't the release for me although I will say I loved how comfortable it was at full draw
I am thinking about switching to a thumb release from an index. No experience with a thumb. Do hunters that use these releases keep them attached to their D loop while walking through the woods? Are they secure enough where you wouldn't lose it? Also do hunters use a wrist strap with them? If so, do they make a quick attachment method to be able to connect your strap to the release in the field? This would be optimal for me during Elk encounters.
You can hang the release from the d-loop once is cooked (because it blocks the extra pincer closing the hook until the thunb is activated, but that is only recomended if your bow will be stationary (like in a blind or a tree stand) and not while walking, because the thumb is very crisp and if you hit it while hanging from the d-loop the hook will open inmediatly.
Yep. Has he responded yet to how the release ‘failed’? It really seemed to me that he should have elaborated on that, or suck up the pride and acknowledge he was tired and brushed against his body on the draw (which os what it seemed like to me).
I bought one last year, had always shot a wrist release. Wish I would have tried one sooner. I shoot a whole lot better and honestly I can pull my bow back easier
I don't think it's a great idea, if you're holding draw for a while on an animal and have to let down you may accidentally fire. Similar to why hinges aren't common for hunting
I’m all over the place with this release. Please help. One problem I can tell is it seems to bring the peep soo close to my eyes it actually gives the target double vision hence I believe the all over the place.
The release it’s self isn’t going to be inaccurate. It’s operator error. Pretty much impossible to say what it is without seeing you you shoot it though
what we call it when you anticipate the shot , mini earth quake ,, shake like you got bit by a snake,,, we call it " A QUIZZIUM" I like it ,,, not really but when I see a pro do it , I don't feel so bad ,,,,
It's great! The only thing I don't like about it is that it is so customizable that it is almost too customizable haha. I have messed with it a lot. But I have it dialed in now.
That's what I'm thinking.. sometimes too much customisation is bad. Like a man in a restaurant with a 10 page menu, it becomes overwhelming! Peg length l, angle thumb barrel, finger numbers, finger angle, barrel travel, barrel tension, size, weight, colour hahaha
No. It "clicks" when fires, there's no anticipatory sound. You can either shoot it on command (as Kyle Douglas does) or shoot through until is activated, but the click happens at the release, not before.
Stan is only way to go if you're spending top dollar on a release. I have the Shoot off. Sure, there are a bunch of good releases on the market but Stanislawski is without question the best in my opinion.
@@mitchimal After conversation, Taxes and mark up.... For sure. Which when you think about it, limits their market in AU for the mid and higher end products.
My favorite as well.
Still!?.. even after it it sucker punched you!?.. the love must run deep!.. haha!

You didnt try Trueball Goat.
How big is that whitetail behind you looks good 👍✌🏻🇺🇸
How is the trufire synapse compared to this 🤔
Awesome video! Thanks! 👍🏻
I like my true ball 🐐
Does it lock on d loop till ready to shoot!like while hanging in treestand?
There are different brands of releases that do that also including carter and tru ball
Carter Wise Choice
Hello I'm a big PSE guy. And I'm looking at new bowls if you had to pick one between the drive NXT or the Embark. Which one would you pick
Catch Steven Hens review for each bow on archery supplies.
Thank you. I'm brand new and just started shopping. Would this be a good release for a beginner? I want to buy good long term equipmment.
No, I'd start with an index style release.
This is a little off the subject but I notice thst u use a short nock. Could u please do a video on the advantages of the Firenock & the installation process to achieve the matched grain system whether u have a 🔋in them or not?
I hate lighted nocks.
I take that as a 👎, ha haha...thanks for your brutally abrupt opinion.
I don't think it's the same release as you're thinking of, as this is exactly a thumb release. There maybe a hinge version of it though?
@@mitchimal must be. Because I also have a Stan perfex Long neck and it isn't a fully functioning thumb trigger release
@@andrewyoder88 there's a "resistance" version which is back tension I'm guessing that's it
go with the Nock 2 it
I am thinking about switching to a thumb release from an index.
In a stationary blind or tree stand, yes. Walking, no.
When hunting, use a lanyard IMO or somewhere secure enough that won't fall out but easy to get to without making much noise
Well at least the new mic sounds great.
I know I can and will Google Stan’s site but a link would be cool for others
Is this the one Brandon McDonald used to punch himself in the face with?🤣🤣🤣
Maybe if he learned to draw properly…
Yep. Has he responded yet to how the release ‘failed’? It really seemed to me that he should have elaborated on that, or suck up the pride and acknowledge he was tired and brushed against his body on the draw (which os what it seemed like to me).
I was like... why Kellan
got my release in his hand? Did I leave it at the shop...?
I bought one last year, had always shot a wrist release. Wish I would have tried one sooner. I shoot a whole lot better and honestly I can pull my bow back easier
wow, I'm considering the same thing, from wrist release and wondering about going to this.
Been meaning to get one, my carter gorilla getting kinda old. Lol
Are you presenting the standard or long-neck model in this video?
Long neck
Can you use tension release for hunting,
I don't think it's a great idea, if you're holding draw for a while on an animal and have to let down you may accidentally fire. Similar to why hinges aren't common for hunting
Any preference between the heavy metal version vs the standard?
Weight and color. Standard is made of aluminum, heavy is made of brass.
Sounds nice but I'm tempted to buy an donut hole release that surrounds the index finger.
Yeah I’m sure it’s all on me. Just wish I knew where my issues were. Thanks for the reply.
@@satellitehunter7440 it’s more common than not that you need to move your peep sight because the position of your anchor hand changes a little.
@@satellitehunter7440 if you send me a message/ video of your shooting on IG I can try to see what’s going on
Bidding for this exact release on eBay right now Lol
what we call it when you anticipate the shot , mini earth quake ,, shake like you got bit by a snake,,, we call it " A QUIZZIUM" I like it ,,, not really but when I see a pro do it , I don't feel so bad ,,,,
What difference, what I mean , these day using d loop in several lengths,
1 year use everything is exactly as he states. End of target panic.
So it basically is a thumb button with a click!? That’s awesome …
No. It "clicks" when fires, there's no anticipatory sound. You can either shoot it on command (as Kyle Douglas does) or shoot through until is activated, but the click happens at the release, not before.
GOAT is 10
Stan is only way to go if you're spending top dollar on a release. I have the Shoot off. Sure, there are a bunch of good releases on the market but Stanislawski is without question the best in my opinion.
Does Stan make anything that isn’t awesome?
Scott Sigma puts it to shame.
Well, I’ve got 5 fingers so I’m out 😂
Ahhh crap..... $400 Australian
Hahah yeah I won't be trying one any time soon, looks the goods though!
Saw it for $380 somewhere,. I think eBay.. but to be fair most other releases are already around $300.. we get screwed here with price
@@mitchimal
After conversation, Taxes and mark up.... For sure.
Which when you think about it, limits their market in AU for the mid and higher end products.
@@jayytee8062 we're not really a useful market for the archery industry unfortunately. They don't really care about us lol
