I'm getting the Onnex Clicker to replace my Shootoff and complement my Onnex Resistance. You didn't mention it, but if you end up not liking the travel and the click, you can adjust travel until there is none, and it functions like a regular Onnex Thumb. (or any other thumb release out there).
Is anyone else on here old enough like I am to remember when Scott came out with a mongoose wrist strap release that worked with the tension? It had a button on the side of it that you pushed in to draw and let off the button to pull in fire. It had a neural knob on it to adjust attention. Great video thank you for what you do!!
So thankful You did this video cause as an amateur archer who has only done this for 2 years had no clue what anything meant when looking at onnex releases lol
Just ordered an Onnex thumb coming from a 10 year old wrist release. Super excited and will definitely get the Joel Turner version if I like it enough. Thanks for the content G!
i started shooting my thumb buttons the way you do it just 2 days ago. i have to say my groups tightened up (to the point i have to re fletch arrows) and it i found i don't punch the trigger that way
My Scott Apex has an open hinge that doesn't require closing, it's spring loaded and closes automatically. I love it, it's heavy and perfectly shaped to accommodate back tension/rotation/pressure equally well and has ZERO travel if you want it that way.
use the onnex screw that prevents your bow from going off , when setting up the resistance release . you wont punch youself in the face and you can see how much it takes to set it off.
Went with the Onnex thumb when it first came out. Had my Nock2It (Carter) completely rust out internally (Florida = high humidity!!). All stainless and coated internals for Stan made the choice easy. Might get the click now.
I would love to see a video on how exactly you have the travel and tension set. Like how many turns out from bottom. I’m having trouble figuring out where to set mine . I thinks it’s because I understand how to set it but not understanding how it’s really supposed to feel. Thanks
I have the stan Onnex hinge and then the Stan AXIS. Both releases are the same size so no adjustments needed. The safety on the hinge is awesome. I’m new to the hinge so the first couple shots I heard the click as I was drawing my bow which let me know I needed to reset up my shot. This got me to start drawing correctly without losing arrows. The only downfall with the hinge is the safety adjustment screw is always moving so I have to readjust all the time. The axis is the thumb button with a wrist strap. The only downfall about it is it don’t come with the extra parts like the hinge. You get the small barrel with it. I prefer the larger thumb barrel so I may take the one off my hinge and put on the thumb button. I really like these releases. I have yet to be able to try the Ultra View releases cause it seems they are always sold out. Lol.
I have a sweet spot pro flex hinge but I will probably be picking up the onnex hinge. In a hunting scenario with a hinge a safety is a must (for me). There are countless variables that can effect your draw cycle when pulling on an animal which can lead to a misfire.
MFJJ, to your comments about the practice safety rod: i honestly wonder whether it is this used for practice. I have the 3 ONNEX releases and am waiting for the click, but aside technical setup work, I would not use the safety rod for actual practice. And your body language so much shows exactly the puzzling state your mind is in: « it should have released but it did not let go ». I would fear to create a parallel mind path with such type of practice and ultimately screw up my shooting routine! 😅
Love the Onnex thumb. Bought the hinge but i'm having a hard time with it due to the "punch yourself in the face" type situation on pulling it back, which means i'm not quite anchoring correctly with it. Still working on it though! And really want the new Click.
I hook my thumb (but not onto my finger) set it heavy and pull with my pinky (which isn't on a surface, three finger). It has worked for me since I managed to get past my TP (many years of hinges with clicks, the click warns me if I do something stupid, mostly )
I have a question. Why don't they make a release (back tension hinge) with a safety that runs like a thumb. Where you keep you thumb off til your ready to shoot. I always forget and punch myself or reef on the back wall and blow the shoot
Can you talk on the different sizes and maybe compare Stan sizes to Truball sizes. I've never shot a Stan so don't know what size to go with. Is a Stan medium the same size as a Truball medium?
Well I'm saving for a new release it will be a while yet but I will buy off you I enjoy the content I guess that's the least I can do keep it coming bud.
Hey can you check out the scotts verge? I have been using an index and just started archery I figure that before I get bad habits, I should check out different releases.
Did you have any issues with the click on the hinge. Just got mine back from Stan ( first versions had to send in to swap moon out) and now the click goes off right when the shot breaks
The glaring problem, for me, is price point. If I weren't on S.S. , and still working for a living, paying $300 for a release would painful yet still doable.
How could he say resistance is for kids when his click release is basically the same except you don't hold the safety, you pull it and it has a click? I'm trying decide between the 2 but I think I like the resistance.
I’m not sure what I’m missing about JT’s method for “Here I go!” as concerning firing a thumb release?!?! But, MFJJ’s pulling one through to a surprise has to be a more repeatable method! Concerning a button, sooner rather than later - Click or no click - TP is going to slam that trigger with the right sight picture!
So, if even one of these won’t work for anyone. Well better buy a crossbow. The new one w/ click has to be awesome. I use a Carter Total Control with two adjustable moons. These can be set however you like. It has NO SAFETY like the Stan has. If you can shoot any thumb release you can easily transfer to this new one.
Does everyone in this industry just hate left handers? I have watched 30 videos on this release. Does this have a setup for left handers? Even STAN doesn‘t say.

Stan was first with the spring gate under the hook. It started on the Perfex thumb.

I am not into trashing people for there views. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing your abundant knowledge and experience. 👍🏻👍🏻
Can't believe how quickly the new Onnex C arrived at my door. Thank you for the great content and amazing turnaround. Keep it Up!
So thankful You did this video cause as an amateur archer who has only done this for 2 years had no clue what anything meant when looking at onnex releases lol
Video was great minus the resistance release portion. The hook resets on its own by just pressing the thumb barrel down! Thank you for all you do!
The click is much more quiet in person than it sounds in the video. Reminds me of shooting a firearm with a two stage trigger very cool
Thank you for the in-depth rundown of the various releases.

Thanks for the in depth break down of the differences.
Bought the onnex-c when at TAC from MFJJ. Shot the whole leupold course with it and have recommended it to all my friends
Got a Stan thumb as my first handheld this year. I’m loving it so far.
I bought the click I love it it's my first button release. You and Joel are both Rock Stars. Keep the vids coming man I've learned so much vital info.

You should make a video on good tools to have at home to setup/tune a bow
Great video & explanation - now looking at ordering a Stan Onnex hinge once I work out the size. It would be so much easier if I lived in the US.
To reset the onnex resistance push the safety in the opposite direction. The hook will jump back.
I really throught there was a new Onnex called Confusion.
😂
😂
I just ordered the onnex clicker thumb release from your website!
I really like Stan releases. I'm upgrading my release next month and these thumb and cluck models are the top 2.

Really enjoy my heavy thumb.

Got the new click from you after the first video. Love it, didn’t realize the brass was heavier 😅. Probably would have went with the lighter one
I hook my thumb (but not onto my finger) set it heavy and pull with my pinky (which isn't on a surface, three finger).
It has worked for me since I managed to get past my TP (many years of hinges with clicks, the click warns me if I do something stupid, mostly )
You can use a spring balance or a bow scale to set the Resistance release close before getting serious.
The training feature was available already on the Feinwerkbau Viper 1 release around 20 yrs ago (you're welcome ;) )
You can push the barrel forward on the R and it resets the hook!!!
Great info. Your videos are always informative.
I just got the click today. Can't wait to try it out
These releases can also be shot interchangeably without changing anchor or peep height. 😊
I just tried an Onnex HM hinge. I learned two things. 1. I don't like shooting a hinge. 2. My Perfex HM feels much better in my hand than the Onnex.
Good stuff. I think the next evolution of releases is a telekinetic wrist strap style. There's not much left for them to think of.
The new Onnex-c is very intriguing for sure.
Not going to get into specifics but his service is amazing.
I have a question. Why don't they make a release (back tension hinge) with a safety that runs like a thumb. Where you keep you thumb off til your ready to shoot. I always forget and punch myself or reef on the back wall and blow the shoot
That would make too much sense. Would be a great transition over from thumb button
Can you talk on the different sizes and maybe compare Stan sizes to Truball sizes. I've never shot a Stan so don't know what size to go with. Is a Stan medium the same size as a Truball medium?
Thank you for sharing this great information
Well I'm saving for a new release it will be a while yet but I will buy off you I enjoy the content I guess that's the least I can do keep it coming bud.
If you buy the click version and don’t like it can you set up the release to not click?
Great vid, thanks MFJJ...
Great information and comparisons.
Thank you.
I’m vet on fixed income and I’ve never shot a release like that but damn it would be nice to own one, one day,
Really looking forward to getting the Stan c to compare to my Uber thumb. I shoot the hinge and do like the click. Will see. Shipping July 1st!
Are you able to make a video to compare the Onnex and the axis please
Hey can you check out the scotts verge? I have been using an index and just started archery I figure that before I get bad habits, I should check out different releases.
The PerFex by Stan has the same screw for practice.
So does there Element releases.
To fast sending that of.
So does the Element releases from Stan.

when do we get one of the stan releases with a Mohawk stencil on them? :D
Hey MFJJ, what back bar mount is that on your SS34..? And what hardware you need to mount it..?
is this thumb C release suitable for left-handed shooters?
Anybody shooting the restiance?
Stans have always had the safety peg . Great feature
Not always. I'm still salty I bought my Shootoff one week before they released the Shootoff TL.
Can't wait to mess with the onnex c... I wish it was arriving this week not next week 😂

Stan should be paying you for this video.
That's pretty neato
Are all of these releases ambidextrous?
Yes the thumb barrels can be rotated to the other side
So, if even one of these won’t work for anyone. Well better buy a crossbow. The new one w/ click has to be awesome. I use a Carter Total Control with two adjustable moons. Pretty sure you just loosen the set screw that holds the barrel on and flip it around. Not positive but pretty sure at least on the c and t variants
You are correct. I have received several confirmations. Thanks for the reply.
Wish I would have seen this before purchasing my ultra view button.
🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🎯love ya work
Got the C… game changer
Gonna believe the guy with gold medals then some dude piggy back riding on his sons coat tail
Explain?
They come with directions for a reason. Quit being the stubborn man and read the directions and your life will be a lot easier
MFJJ get your facts in line, Mr Bodie tuner won Lancaster archery and the world championships this year
This was a total waste of money. Carter and others are sooooooo much better .
