I have the Onnex, hinge 2 just received UV thumb. It’s so much easier hooking on to the D Loop with your middle finger with the onnex versus having to dislodge your pointer finger to hook to your D Loop with the hinge2 and the button. All three are fine products and have their spot with my shooting. Always tinkering
Stan Pefex and Onnex are what I'm rocking. and now with many of those on the used market it's an even greater buy! dont like the fact i have to shorten my draw length to use the UV button compared to the Stans but it does make sense for UV Hinge shooters who don't want to change some variables when going between releases.
I had to shorten my draw about 1/4”, not a big deal for a 30” draw guy. For someone whos really trying to get all they can out of the performance of their bow then it matters.
@@michaelcolthart4006 you could, but I see it like sitting further up in the seat to reach the pedals instead of just adjusting the seat forward. I’d rather just make some tiny tweaks and feel comfortable in my anchor.
@@jeffcordero_ would shortening your D loop as short as you can get it without interfering with your arrow also work instead of shortening your draw length?
Stan Onnex is a better release , you can adjust it more in different ways. I love my UV Scope and grip but i feel they need UV Button 2 or 3 before they compare with the Onnex. It's a great first Button from them.

Well done on the comparison 👍. Not sure if you mentioned that the Onnex will eventually come in 5 different sizes as compared to Ultraview's two. UV did a lot of work to keep the release on the quieter side, though the quietest bow is still louder than the noisiest release, so it's kind of moot. Stan is supposedly working on offering finger extensions with lanyard attachments since they forgot to put one on the Onnex 🤦. No idea when they'll start offering them, though, since they have their hands full.
Thanks for the kind words! I didn’t, Stan does offer the most in terms of size options but I feel like the majority of people fall in the middle of the bell curve and the UV releases cover most people. I did hear they might have an offering to come out with a finger extension, but if they come to market anything like the Onnex releases, it’s gonna be a while…🤦🏼♂️
Ya I really like the Stan Onnex. I got the hinge in the sage. I love the color. I plan on getting the button just because they are built the same and I need it for hunting season. What won me is the safety features. Thanks for the video.
Just purchased the ultraview thumb button release! Because my nock2it release just broke and blow up my brand new levitate that I had for one day lol not ideal a few weeks before season!
Im hunting with the UV button this year only bc the last 3 years the only release I have been shooting was the UV hinge and hinge 2 even for hunting it was just super comfortable and I shot the hinge really well. but like you I was hoping for a UV button release for hunting just to have a little more control on the shot for hunting situations.
Well they should all hit the center. You set your bow up for the release and the anchor point you use. If your changing between releases then you might have different POI.
My only concern is the plastic bushings. Plastic in weather conditions for hunting in Alaska or northern states is not a combo I personally like. Great review as always.
Depends on what plastic they chose for the bushings. Delrin and Teflon can function in far more extreme conditions than a release aid will be exposed to.
Just a thought…… I have noticed the uv button adds about a 1/4” to my draw length compared to the Stan onnex and the nock to it. Seems to me the uv button holds better on the d loop just hanging. The Stan onnex will slip off a lil easier. That being said the Stan is easier to attach to your d loop. Just my opinion But I find the uv button feels better even tho the Stan has more adjustments. I know first hand Ultraveiw is a really great company to deal with….. amazing customer service. I can’t speak to Stan. At the end of the day both are excellent releases. Really good job breaking the difference down in between the two.
Chuck I did notice a lot of the same things. Because my bow was already setup to run the UV Hinge 2 I had already made that 1/4” adjustment to my draw to make it feel right. I think it’s a situation where you’ll want to set your bow up for the release your gonna shoot the most. I noticed the same things with the string retainer on the Dloop. Depending what loop material your using (something smaller like BCY 23) I did notice you could wiggle the Onnex off and you couldn’t with the UV Button. Just something to keep an eye on. Great customer service. I’ve talked to them in the past asking some questions and they were prompt and very easy to work with.
One thing you should mention in a comparison is the safety that the Onnex has. To many it isn't a big deal... for others it can be. That is one of the reasons I am using the Stan.
It does have it but it’s more a shot trainer than anything else. I thought about it mentioning it but it doesn’t add or take away from the function of the release. It’s a great feature and I’ve used it to setup bows and practice pulling through my shot with it.
I was in the market for my first button and was looking at the B3 Exit Pro, but the shop insisted I try the Stan as well. Of course they did, it was over double the price. I shot the B3 and it felt great and shot well, but I didn't realize how much I wanted a locking release until then, which was a deal breaker for me. I shot the Stan at their recommendation and right out of the box it felt great, but it felt even better shooting the heavy metal. I originally didn't plan on spending that much for a release and I knew I wanted to try the UV as well. While I was there I wanted to try out a few bows (Carbon One, Mach 34, Omnia, & SS34) just for fun and used the Stan while doing so. Carbon didn't win me over, but the Stan sure did. They sold me the Stan at $285 and I had $120 store credit to boot, so even if I had tried and like the UV more, the price still would've been a deal breaker. It is more than I planned on spending, but I like to be a one and good for a while type of guy. I think I am more than good with the Stan for quite a while. Appreciated the video, it was one of a few I watched when considering buttons, and all your other content.
So, since this video is a year old already, any regrets on that Ultraview? Shot one all winter for 3D league. Found a major design flaw. Same one that Carter has. The offset mounting on the barrel, lets it rotate after a while. While using my Ultraview during a 3D shoot, the barrel loosened up and rotated on me. It was actually loose and I had to draw down and go get allen wrenches to tighten it up. This in my opinion is a big design flaw. Happened to me twice, because of it, I made a switch. The Stan Onnex has not had that issue. And, the barrel on the Onnex is way more adjustable.
I made the switch to the UV Button and don't regret it. I also have the Stan Onnex but one thing I noticed is that all that customization comes at a cost. More small pieces to lose and the accessories aren't the same quality as the release itself. The pegs and screws can be a pain to work with. The UV Button is so well engineered and manufactured that the components are better quality and you can feel it. I wasn't sure if I wouldn't like not being able to rotate the barrel like the Stan, but it being concave I think makes thumb placement more consistent.

thanks for this comparison! I have been working with the Stan PerfeX for 3 years and LOVED it, so solid and ZERO malfunctions. Currently I'm looking for a new one, or backup, and only considering these two because of the success and consistency I've had with Stan and don't want to compromise. Looking for honesty, has the UV been problem-free since you've used it?
UV has a long neck, and that's a deal breaker for a lot of people that don't shoot target only. You're giving up draw length or messing with your anchor.
I can't move away from wanting to sell my UV button because it has drastically changed my anchor point. I recorded myself and my knuckles pretty far behind compared to when I shoot another release. All of this is due to the longer neck. Even MFJJ from podium archery talked about it and said some may have to shorten their draw length and no, I did not watch that video first before noticing that my anchor point changed. Sure I can find a new anchor point but I shouldn't have to. I can drop a half inch in draw length but I shouldn't have to either. The owner of the my pro shop also told me he's seen some people shorten their draw length. I am waiting for the tru ball trident pro flex, which will hopefully fix my issue. Is that my only issue? No it is not. After only about 200 shots I can hear it creaking on the inside. It feels super solid and it is quiet, but I don't know that it is for me.
Great video, im shooting the stan perfex, love it, but i would probably trade it for the uv button only bc i also shoot the uv hinge 2 during the summer, wish i could do an even trade, but i cant justify having $900 in releases this year
I'm using the heavy metal onyx, best release I've ever used hands down. After having several cheap ones fail or fall apart, is recommend people just bite the bullet and go with something that you'll still be using in 10 years from now
Great work. How much longer is the hook out on the Ultraview than the Stan? The actual neck I suppose? It looks a little longer or is it really negligible? Did your DL change between the two releases?
I have an odd question for you even though this video is so long ago lol; what size gloves do you wear? Im wanting to order Stan's new clicker version of this Onnex release but I am very unsure if I should go with medium or Large. I wear a size 9 glove (medium) and Stan's website states to go by glove sizing. Seeing as though the one you have in this video looks like a large based on the "L" just under the neck, how did this size feel to you in the hand?
As always your videos are clean and informative…but as I have said before, ultraview is being ultra cheap when it comes to its customers. Stan is less expensive and comes with everything, whereas ultraview is more expensive and comes with nothing…I try to buy quality, and saved up for the onnex. If I can help it I’ll never buy another release again. Good luck with your Montana elk hunt.
Great review, had a feeling you would go with the UV. I will be taking the wise choice into the mountains with me this year. Good luck on your hunts this fall!
Great comparison video. I saw a comment below that the position of the UV button clasp makes it a bit more difficult to quickly hook onto your D-loop than the Onnex. Is that what you found also? I have the Onnex and love it, but I do wish it had a lanyard hole so that I could attach it to a wrist strap.
Actually on another account I saw a hot tip. If you attach the uv button down by the bottom of your D-loop, you can simply just clip it on. No need for another finger to assist
A big benefit of the onnex is that they make a resistance release which is the ultimate release for creating proper form and preventing target panic. The ultra view does look amazing but I don't want to turn into a release collector. It's not like they're guns or guitars.
I've read a few comments about PerfeX resistance dying fast, mine died in 15 months, my coach has two on hands what also lived just over a year and guess what? Stan gives you ONE year of warranty on their premium products... They know what it won't last. Their trigger thumb releases though - more stable and durable.
My PerfeX resistance heavy metal died in 15 months, i'm not sure i want to buy Stan because when your first expensive release dies faster than ones what are 1/4 of it's cost you start to doubt the manufacturer. And with 1 year warranty and what you have to ship it yourself to manufacturer in US (would cost me $50 to ship it to them, then pay for repair, then pay to ship it back) makes it completely not worth the premium price they ask for it (and yes, MOST of the cost is r&d, brand name and following support, and not the manufacturing cost).
The chord on ultraview is suck a great idea. I ran into a bear last year and quit thinking about hunting and more about getting away. Got back to the truck and realized I lost my Stan perfex and was so sad. Would’ve been fixed with a cable of some sort
Ultraview has 1 problem, just like the Carter.....the offset on the barrel! It does loosen up and it does rotate. I even had it come loose during a shot at a 3D tournament. For that reason, I would go with the Stan Onnex. It is a better release. And the offset on the barrel adjustment is nice compared to the 90* that the Ultraview offers. One man's opinion.
I was looking for a new one, I was using the trophy ridge thumb button and don’t like it, I was looking for a new one. I’ll consider one of these thumb buttons thanks in advance.
So does the Ultra view have an safety pin (like the Stan) so you can practice pulling back (aiming drills) without worrying about the release going off? Just to let you know I'm currently shooting an Carter 4 finger chocolate addiction that has slight modifications. Mainly an ceramic magnet held on by aluminum tape. The reason for this is that I wear an magnet necklace underneath my shirt when shooting (I'm a target shooter) and I simply hang the release on the outside of my shirt for "hands free" arrow loading. 🏹🤠👍
Stan perfex person, the only reason I am afraid of ordering in Europe, a UV button without being able to try it, is the size, Stan is the only company that has sizing options. I use a small, any suggestions?
I shoot a like mike2 and its great but I'm thinking about changing to a thumb button. I've never shot one before. I'm thinking the stan but still not sure. Curious about your opinion? I know everyone is gonna say try both then decide, but bow shops won't let you do that where I'm from
I wish I didn't watch this video lol I've been shooting an most comfortable with the nock 2 it. I bought the hinge 1 maybe a year and a half ago, I absolutely love the feel of the draw with it but have been afraid to fully commit to it (mainly for hunting mostly) and because it's longer than the N2I I've been neglecting it. since they dropped the button they obviously sparked my interest big time...and you sir haven't helped with my decision to wait until spring to try and order it haha awesome video and thank you for your input on it.
Onnex all the way. Trigger is much smoother and the device is less bulky and blocky. My ultra is now a paperweight on my office desk. If I couldn’t shoot my Stan I’d be using the Ultra again though. The Ultra is the next best to a Stan. Stan trigger is so smooth and the break is super crisp.
Excellent video, and it hit the high notes i discovered as well. From my Stan Resistance to the UV Button- huge difference. I feel like the resistance break is very inconsistent and I proved it with a trigger pull gauge test. Had as much as 4 lb variation shot to shot. I get that it's a resistance (same body as the thumb button) to thumb button but the UV just sits in my hand better and had wayyyy better ergonomics than the Stan for me. I did notice that the UV is chewing up my D loop very quickly, maybe I need to look into that further. I also love the heavy SS UV vs the aluminum Stan, it is difficult to explain why but it is just better for me. If you're on the fence, UV also will send you a plastic replica of the release (you pay shipping) so you can feel it in your hand. Everyone is different obviously, but there's my experience.
Do you have early onset ALZHEIMERS? You adjust YOUR release, and the next day forget which screw of 2(?) Do what? Im 66yo, I think that problem is a result of the process of testing and it seemed slightly, "almost" imperceptibly biased. Maybe unconsciously, Then the end nailed it.. this was impossible for you to do an unbiased review. Jmho.

Shot with Stan prefex all summer and not wanting to make any changes right now, but have the hinge2 and ih button for next year. Stan is less expensive and comes with everything, whereas ultraview is more expensive and comes with nothing…I try to buy quality, and saved up for the onnex. If I can help it I’ll never buy another release again. Good luck with your Montana elk hunt.
Thanks Steve! The Stan does come with a lot more right out of the box
@@jeffcordero_ I think ultraview has rubbed me wrong so I can't be unbiased when talking about them. I should be more fair.
Great review, had a feeling you would go with the UV. I will be taking the wise choice into the mountains with me this year. Good luck on your hunts this fall!
Thanks Chet!
@@jeffcordero_ awesome, thanks for the tip. I may try this with my Onnex also. Keep the great videos coming!!
Assuming the Ultraview was a medium in size, what was the size of the Stan?
And how did the fit feel to you?
Very informative video. Thanks
The Stan is a Large. Personally I think the medium Ultraview and Stan Large will fit 80% of the population.
I have the scott apex right now but I'm saving up for one of either one of these
Can’t go wrong with either.
@@ThereWasNoFreeName I've had mine three years and it works fine. I usually shoot 3-4 days a week; more before hunting season.
The perfex has a lanyard loop
Ultraview has 1 problem, just like the Carter.....the offset on the barrel! It does loosen up and it does rotate. I even had it come loose during a shot at a 3D tournament. For that reason, I would go with the Stan Onnex. It is a better release. And the offset on the barrel adjustment is nice compared to the 90* that the Ultraview offers. One man's opinion.
I was looking for a new one, I was using the trophy ridge thumb button and don’t like it, I was looking for a new one. I’ll consider one of these thumb buttons thanks in advance.
@@juanrodriguez-mu7ko can’t go wrong with either one
Is the Onnex you’re using also a medium? Wanting an Onnex, not sure whether to order a L or XL. Shooting a L Hinge 2 currently.
Would you consider either of these 2 choices an upgrade over the Carter Wise Choice?
If you feel comfortable with the wise choice, I wouldn’t change.
The UV button does not have a safety. I’m not sure of another release on the market that has one besides a STAN release.
I know everyone is gonna say try both then decide, but bow shops won't let you do that where I'm from
You can’t go wrong with the Stan. They are great releases and they have a good resale value if you don’t end up liking it
@@jeffcordero_ fair enough. Thanks for the advice
Your welcome, hahaha! Thanks for watching
That's what I don't want to bulky
Is there much of a difference in how you anchor with both of these?
Yes. They anchor differently
Do u know the difference in head length? The UV is longer would be curious as to how much longer than the onyx
You neglected the state that the stan also has a safety lock for practice
Have you tried the TRU Ball GOAT? Seems like the UV Hinge and Button combined into one release.
I have. It’s a good release
@@jeffcordero_ Nice! How would you compare each respective UV and Stan combo to the GOAT?
The aluminum button has the same grip. It's a courser cerekote
Yea it’s a great texture
Been thinking about getting the Stan onnex but have never shot with a thumb button release
The Onnex is a really solid release. Can't go wrong with it
I’m shooting the Ultra
Unless I’m high I thought In Chris bee video he could move the button
Just watched Chris bees video, you can adjust the knob
You can adjust the knob, but the with the Stan you can adjust the knob on another axis that you can’t with the UV Button
So are you biased because of the hinge?
would say so. i have a stan onnex hinge as well
I typed in Stan to watch an Eminem video and somehow I got this video 😂😂😂😂😂
I’d like to know how these compare to the Nock 2 it or carter wise choice
personally, I feel the UV button is most similar to the Wise choice/Nock2it.
I have a perfex and a onexx they are both great.
Of the two which one can have the most travel in it?
You can adjust the travel in both. I’m not sure which one has the maximum travel.
I got my Stan for 225
Onnex for me this hunting season, but plan on trying out the UV button soon.
Don’t buy one till you shoot it. The onnex is better.
@@timbow50 I’m sticking with the onnex. Just picked up an Onnex hinge too.
Does anyone have any experience with the $90 releases on ebay that are identical to the UV Button?
Link?
looks like "android" vs "ios"- 1kk customizing option and no one use it after a couple of hours of "setting"- my choice is UV
Where is the ultraview made?
Company is located in Georgia
Do you have early onset ALZHEIMERS? You adjust YOUR release, and the next day forget which screw of 2(?) Do what? Im 66yo, I think that problem is a result of the process of testing and it seemed slightly, "almost" imperceptibly biased. Maybe unconsciously, Then the end nailed it.. this was impossible for you to do an unbiased review. Jmho.
Can you buy the button on there website and put on the onnex?
I don’t think I follow.
@@jeffcordero_ I think you can buy the trigger for the button on there websight and put them on other releases. You should do a video review of puting the button on the onnex
@@maverick.g7182 the UV thumb barrel will not fit on the onnex.
@@jeffcordero_ Ok thank you! i have another qustion my firend is selling a new onnex for $180 do you think i should get that or spend the extra moeny and get the uv button?
@@maverick.g7182 I don’t think you can go wrong with either but that onnex is a good price for 180$
Shot with Stan prefex all summer and not wanting to make any changes right now, but have the hinge2 and ih button for next year. Been wanting to work on not punching the trigger and like the idea of using hinge in the off season. The longer neck on the UV means I need to change either my anchor/peep or draw length. So that is gonna have to be a next season thing.
Yea the hook location and neck length will warrant some small changes to your setup to fee optimal. But for me it was worth it and it sounds like your in the same boat. Best of luck this year!
What do u get from buying these two thumb release……broke. Lol
I have the warm satisfaction that I’m supporting the archery industry for future generations…😆
UV feels like a chinese finger cuff
go the stan 😁
For hunting: Make it simpel 🙂
Ultra view button n I love mine

UV Button is for hunting. stan onnex is for target.
Neither is genre specific. They are both for letting arrows fly
too much blah blah blah.
