The good part about the stan is that they purposely made the release to all match in the onnex line. The thumb, hinge, and the resistance all have the string in the same location. You can go through all releases and have no change in the draw.
What I love about the UV and Stan is their hinge and thumb button are set up exactly the same. It’s easy to shoot a hinge for practice then hunt with a thumb button without changing your sight/tune.
I literally just bought the full set of UV hinge 2 and the UV Button. Bank account took a hit but I love shooting and love to get better. Therapeutic for me to fling some arrows. Keep up the good work boss!
Tru ball is very good. Especially when it comes to their warranty. Ultraview has been great for scopes, but I haven't tried their releases. The older Stan hinges like the black jack were very well made. The good thing about releases is people change them more than their underwear. There's a decent used market to find what you like, but you have to give each release some time. My go to release is the tru ball blade at the moment.
@@bmook019 I ran the nock 2 it for a year and really enjoyed it. I traded a buddy for his Stan and don’t seem to shoot it as well. I have ultraviews first hinge from a few years back and shoot it really well. Thought I would buy both hinge 2 and UV button since I like the feel of the first hinge and it will be nice to have 2 releases that feel and fit the same.
Started with the ultraview 2.0, then went to the Hbc flex and my shooting went way up. Now I own the fulcrum flex, hbc, executive and the stan perfex for windy windy days. Fulcrum and hbc are both my go to. Love the videos and content!
One thing to note on the Stan is finger extension angle can be changed and more importantly a different sized extension can be used. I am using a medium 3rd finger on a large body. For me, the Stan is more comfortable on draw length since it has a shorter neck than the UV2 and I am probably as long as I can comfortably go on mod setting.
I shot the Stan Onnex for a while then bought the UV Hinge 2 and I LOVE it!!! I still love my Stan and I go back and fourth. I’m just more consistent with me Hinge. But the hinge 2 adjustability capabilities are insane how easy and how you can get it set perfectly to how you like!! I love it

You guys are part of my daily digest and I finally had to sing it out loud. Tim, you can still outshoot me and I don’t think I have to preface this when I say, I really do enjoy the newer archer point of view. Having only gotten serious into shooting since 2020, I love having all three of you to learn with and from. You also did not talk about the fact that Ultra view did sweep that neck toward most of the tension when you're drawing the boat is right over top of the middle finger therefore making it easier to Pivot that with the ring finger
I shoot both the uv hinge 2 and the UV button. I love shooting the hinge. My favorite of the two. I prefer the uv button for hunting as I draw a heavier poundage for hunting.would love to see a spot Hogg wise guy comparison.
The hinge 2 is my favorite and go to currently, but like you said because of the neck length you have to commit to it. It’s nice being able to go between the hinge 2 and the UV thumb button without changing POI though.
you are correct though as I have the hinge 2 but cant use it as much since I hunt with a tru ball thumb and it changes poi. I have a different bow set up just for the hinge that I dont hunt with
I Really liked the Canadian hunting video, release video is well done as well. It really sucks that the Canadian dollar is so weak and the import fee makes buying anything from the us very costly 😢
I have thought about getting a Ultraview Hinge 2 just because i love my Ultraview Button So much. I do agree with what you said about the Ultraview it is annoying that it is a tad longer then other releases which makes it harder to switch between releases to test
The Stan hinge is the best option if going to switch to the Stan thumb when hunting. I’ve used TruBall and the hook is small and cantankerous to get on the loop but the design of the head lets you use a heavy glove in cold weather without pushing the hook off the moon. The longer neck on the Ultraview may be beneficial in cold weather. I have used a hinge for hunting but it is setup completely different than the release I use for target. Target I use a click and pull through the shot. Hunting release is setup with a long travel, no click and I command shoot it. It’s setup so I can hold all day and it’s not going to fire until I “command” it too. I can rotate the release fast or slow depending on the situation. This works for me……..you, maybe not so much😂
I wish I had waited to order from the website until after this video! I literally just ordered from podium archer on Friday. I got the email saying the label has been created but not shipped yet. Just switched to the Ultraview thumb button and really enjoy it so far. Had to get the large. Was sad that podium archer didn’t have the 2 finger bracket on his site. Looking forward to trying the podium archer points. Unfortunately the titanium inserts are out of stock.
@@TimConnor13 thanks Tim. I meant to say please. Didn’t want to sound demanding. I’m glad you broke away from elkshape and doing back to basics things. That’s what drew me to elkshape to begin with. Rocking a Stan Onnex Thumb right now, have a crappy hinge that the handle is just too big to be comfortable. Think i'll get a Stan Hinge next for practice.
I bought an Onnex resistance for training, and shoot a Stan shootoff (I bought a week before they came out with the trainer lock), that one's close, but not exactly the same. I'm looking to maybe replace the Shootoff with an Onnex thumb. The Shootoff for some reason feels more quality than the Onnex though
Shooting a original uv hinge. Its my favorite at the moment. Ive also been shooting a truball hbc. Honestly thinking about trading the hbc for a uv hinge 2.
@@TimConnor13 I think it fits better in my hand. The hbc gives me callouses on my pointer finger. I don't know why. The hook on the hbc is small hard to get on loop. I think the uv hinge has a slight cleaner crisper break.

Its been out a while but would like to try the Scott Ascent/Select (click and fire adjustable, select has flex), one of the first independently adjustable to become available My issue with a thumb tends to be me getting twitchy, which goes away with some hinge (then comes back at some point later !) My ancient brass hbc and Carter Chocolate Addiction have roughly the same sight marks while the hinge 2 requires extra sight movement (may also have rounded the really small adjustment/lock screws on hinge 2)
Great job so far on the solo venture👍. I have reckoning envy. Just bought an ss34 after selling my solution. Keep up the great content, I’m gonna drive down from BC and get SVA to set up the new bow and maybe rip a pile of arrows on the 3D course.
I think you left out an important part. To train or target shoot with a hinge is ideal but, as you say, it's best to hunt with a thumb release. So the important thing is the crossover between the two releases you use. Uv 2 and the Stan hinges have been built to be the same shape as their thumb counterpart so there's no need to change anything when you swap from hinge to thumb release.
I love Stan Onyx thumb button is absolutely amazing I love the true ball XL HBC Flex the tungsten is the one I have the one that's really heavy I love it and then I love my ultra view hinge also but I did not love the Ultra review thumb button that you cannot set that thumb button to near enough tension
A handheld release is so personal. It has to fit. It has to be at the correct angle to use your back to activate it. The Stan has that spike coming off the back of the finger post. I shot that release and thought the first thing I would do is grind that thing off. I also thought I would have to figure out how to remove the extra gate that makes it nearly impossible to get on the d loop. The UV has NO adjustment for the fingers, and the click speed is two independent moons. That means that if you want to adjust the speed of the release, you also have to adjust click speed again. Neither of those two fit my hand well so they were never in strong contention but they both are smooth, crisp releases and if they fit you they will serve you well. I liked the shot and the weight of the heavy metal onnex but I don't like having my fingers spread apart like that. I like a thumb button better and I have shot a truball Abyss for years, and just last week got an Ultimate. The jury is still out on which one I'll like better but I'm testing the Ultimate right now.
Yes. I would throw my life away for this opportunity and lose so bad. I only have pressure when shooting deer. Also... Why this video 2 days after I choose a release 🤣. I picked up a thumb button tho (Stan onnex). Hunted with a Carter Honey 2 last year though!
I have a question, about everything???? 😊 the way you are anchored looks like the back of your release hand is lightly touching the side of your face? Correct? If so, is your D loop twisted sideways and does that even matter? I guess it might not because it’s just the loop and not the string???? Please comment back. I would like to know the answer.
IMO, too many thumb button shooters have them set up with what I call a floating thumb position. The thumb is reaching out to ride on the barrel in a supposed natural position? This allows for ease of commanding the shot which can be a negative aspect. I prefer to hook my thumb deep over the barrel to touch or ride on my index finger.
